WWII Planes Featured Prominently In Riveting New WWII Novel, Shoestring’s End, By Author Tom Burkhalter

Tom Burkhalter writes gripping stories in the tradition of James Jones, W.E.B. Griffin and C.S. Forester, that share a no-nonsense view towards war and an attention to substance that is extraordinary.

Author Tom Burkhalter has announced the release of his new WWII novel, Shoestring’s End: a Novel of the Pacific Air War, Dec 1942 – March 1943. Like all of his previous books, WWII aviation takes center stage, enhanced by a level of technical and historical detail that is unparalleled. Every paragraph of the new book maintains a laser-sharp focus on providing the reader with an experience that will take them into the very heart and soul of WWII.

Burkhalter has received rave reviews for his past work. One reviewer said, “Buy it, read it and tell everyone you know. Tom Burkhalter is as good as Clancy and Griffin.” Mark Lardas, writing in the Daily News of Galveston County, wrote of Everything We Had that it “feels like a book which could have been written in the 1950s or 1960s by a veteran of the Pacific War.”

Shoestring’s End begins as the disastrous year of 1942 ends. The Japanese toehold on the northern New Guinea coast, remnant of their advance almost to the gates of Port Moresby, has nearly been wiped out. The Japanese focus their efforts on reinforcing their forward base at Lae, on the Huon Gulf. The mission of the 5th Air Force is to cut off Lae. They must do this while fighting at the end of a shoestring, a supply line ten thousand miles long, using airplanes like the much-patched B-17E Bronco Buster II or the worn P-39D Airacobras of the 35th Fighter Group. New airplanes and new tactics arrive in an uncertain trickle. The Allied infantry, Australian and American, based in New Guinea, are exhausted from fighting and jungle diseases. If the Japanese reinforce Lae, the outcome of the war in the SW Pacific will remain unpredictable.

“I wrote this book,” Burkhalter stated, “like the others, to remind my readers of the deeds and character of their ancestors. World War II is an American epic, shared with all the other Allied countries. The epic tradition among storytellers goes back as far as Homer’s Iliad. That tradition inspires the reader to seek the best qualities within themselves. We forget these qualities if we aren’t reminded, and that’s my job.”

Other books by Tom Burkhalter include:

Everything We Had: a Novel of the Southwest Pacific Air War, November-December 1941

Japan surrounds American possessions in the Philippines with overwhelming force on three sides. The US Army desperately attempts to reinforce the Philippines garrison, but the armed forces of Imperial Japan may attack at any moment. Two brothers, Jack and Charlie Davis, are pilots in the US Army Air Forces. When they are sent to the Far Eastern Air Forces in the Philippines, they must depend on every ounce of courage, training, and skill they have to survive the coming war.

A Snowball’s Chance: a Novel of the Pacific Air War, January-February 1942

The victorious Japanese come south in overwhelming numbers. The Allies send Jack and Charlie Davis and their friends, outnumbered and in obsolescent airplanes, to help the British and Dutch attempt to stop the Japanese Army and Navy. As the Dutch say, “Luck to the fighters.”

Boxcar Red Leader: a Novel of the Pacific Air War, May 1942

The Imperial Japanese Navy sails to invade Port Moresby, the last Allied base between the Japanese and Australia. It the Japanese take Port Moresby, Australia’s supply line to the United States will be cut. Jack Davis is sent to Port Moresby to command a flight of untrained young pilots flying a dangerous airplane no one wants, the P-39D Airacobra. Charlie Davis, now flying the B-17E Bronco Buster II, flies dangerous reconnaissance missions looking for the Japanese fleet. The Allies have lost the Philippines and Java. Can they hold Port Moresby?

Thanks for the Memories: a Novel of the SW Pacific Air War, July-September 1942

The Japanese invade Papua New Guinea’s north coast to try to capture Port Moresby overland. Still outnumbered, improvising repairs to their tattered airplanes and suffering from jungle diseases, the Americans and Australians fight in the air and on the ground as the Japanese slog over the Kokoda Track through the rugged Owen Stanley Mountains, with the prize of Port Moresby before them. The fighting, in the air and on the ground, nears a last-ditch effort for the Allies.

The New Kids: a Novel of the Air War on the Home Front, September 1942

Jack and Charlie Davis have survived nine months of vicious air fighting. When they get home new challenges wait for them, challenges of long-deferred love, of living with memories, and the responsibilities laid on combat-proven pilots and leaders as new pilots arrive to train for a different air war over Europe. They survived the Pacific, but the war has only begun.

The Truth: The Devastating Effects Of The Pandemic On Young People Will Not Be Overcome For A Very Long Time Says Award Winning Author And Film Maker Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein

Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein is an award winning Selfie Filmmaker, Positive Psychologist and podcaster who helps us overcome anxiety and alienation through multiple media channels.

A recent story on the NBC News site entitled 'Covid is having a devastating impact on children - and the vaccine won't fix everything', opened our eyes to potential long term effects the pandemic will have on young people. In that article Barbara Duffield who runs Schoolhouse Connect was quoted as saying, “If we fail to address this, we’re just compounding trauma. We’re compounding loss. A student who is homeless, who has a disability, who has been traumatized by the racial violence we’ve seen this year, and then to be disconnected from arguably the only universal support system is disastrous. It means higher rates of suicide. Higher rates of depression, addiction, mental illness and physical disability, particularly for young children who are growing and developing right now. They’ll face more developmental delays leading to deficits in their education as they grow.”

According to award winning author and filmmaker Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein, the current short term problems are likely just the tip of the iceberg . . .

"As a Positive Psychologist and also a filmmaker, I am very concerned about the consequences of the Pandemic on our children," Holstein stated. "Many others are also, including researchers, teachers, parents, hospitals, and the children themselves as they experience another disappointment, whether they can't follow a teacher on their tablet as a parent starts to yell in the background or a freshman in college suddenly told to pack up and move home for the rest of the semester as the college announces covid cases.

"Children, tweens, teens, and young adults are at risk in terms of developmental milestones, educational progress, social and emotional growth and serious mental health issues.

"What follows are a sample but certainly not all of the issues:

"Babies may not be picking up on all the facial cues that help them establish normal connections with others, if caregivers are wearing masks some or much of the time.

"Toddlers are missing out on interaction with other toddlers while moms have coffee, or can't enjoy learning to swim at the Y.

"Preschool children are missing out on playgrounds filled with kids and swings and slides and playdates.

"Elementary school children are being pushed into virtual learning with tablets and less human direct contact with teachers and friends. Also they are often experiencing rage and anger from their parents as the parents attempt to help them with school work for hours at a time, while doing their own jobs from home.

"Junior and High school kids are missing out on so many coming of age activities that they depend on to stretch their social muscles and begin the process of social distancing from their parents as they also socially get closer to their friends - a prom canceled, a graduation done by a drive through, stuck at home instead of out with the gang or a first love.

"And college age kids may find themselves living at home, virtually learning at the very time they most want to be out of the house, away from family, exploring the world. If they live on campus they may be told not to congregate or to go home suddenly.

"All of these situations can and may lead not only to disappointment and frustration but to mental health problems. As a psychologist I seriously worry about emotional effects on kids. Depression and acute anxiety are just as critical when a child has these symptoms, as when an adult does.

"Yes there will be an emotional and social price to pay for all of the above. But there are some ways that parents and kids can overcome these intrusions. Here are some ideas: With young children stay engaged with them as much as possible. Read to them, make eye contact, talk to them, do all the normal, spontaneous handling of babies and toddlers that are natural and normal.

"For a parent of school age kids keeping them from upsets that may mean letting a middle age school child off the hook and not trying to be his or her teacher for 5 hours a day. You are his parent and he will do better making up work later when the Pandemic is over than being watched and seeing you upset over his ability or inability to do work remotely. Also, playdates can happen on zoom and socially distanced get togethers certainly can work when the weather permits. And keep the grandparents in mind. They can help with school work remotely and encourage your child when you are frustrated, tired and maybe had it with him or her.

Adolescents.

"Try to understand their deep frustration and sense of loss when they can't get together with friends or hang out at the pizza joint, etc. They are reacting to a real developmental loss. Give them some privacy, but also engage with them. Share from your own past, cook together, do a volunteer project that they can help you with, and above all, listen with a third ear. If they need mental health care make sure they get it.

"Here's what I'm doing: I've developed a Pandemic Historical project. One aspect that I'm looking at is college age kids and how they are affected by the Pandemic. To help me, Julia Gesner, a freshman in college is interviewing both students that live on campus and those that live at home. She's a filmmaker and will add greatly to the Selfie Pandemic History Project. These interviews will be filmed and edited by Julia into films. She will be using her smart phone. You can also become a Pandemic Historian and use your phone to capture Pandemic History! For more information go to http://www.selfiefilmmakers.com."

"I am making a documentary about college life during the pandemic," Gesner stated. "Included in the film will be several interviews with students who were on campus and those who studied at home virtually. In addition, I will be including some professors as well. I plan to highlight the challenges that have arisen during the pandemic and illustrate how people have learned to cope with them. This film will not only focus on academic life but examine the social, dormitory, dining, COVID protocols and mental health aspects."

Month after month for the last few years Dr. Holstein has been winning award after award for her "selfies as drama" conceptual films - over 90 to date. These are not just selfie films. They have at their core positive psychology principles that only Dr. Holstein can bring to the table.

Dr. Holstein's cutting edge presentations, most recently based on the Covid-19 pandemic issues, can be found on both Youtube, Vimeo and on the Roku channel and Amazon Fire TV, titled as 'The Enchanted Self Presents'.

Dr. Holstein recently created The Selfie Showcase, a new project emerging from The Selfie Project, that allows young people to voice their opinions on subjects that matter to young people. She is now accepting submissions from the public for the "Selfie Showcase" and is actively seeking change-makers and mental health professionals to appear on her monthly video podcasts.

The Selfie Showcase allows kids, teens, and young adults ages 13 to 18 to candidly express their concerns, worries, observations and possible solutions by creating selfie videos or films around important subjects, using a smartphone. Dr. Holstein's mission is to help rectify, in a number of ways, some of the issues young people face by giving them a chance to engage with others in meaningful ways about the anxiety and stress they must grapple with constantly.

Selected participants may appear on the Selfie Project Channel, available on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3uaOTcYF70z5CpBh11VoUQ. They will also appear in the Selfie Showcase on SelfieFilmmakers.com. They will receive a certificate of merit and may be invited to be on Holstein's monthly podcast or perhaps be a part of her next film. Full details, rules for submission and helpful hints can be accessed at the Selfie Filmmakers site at http://www.selfiefilmmakers.com/instructions.

Dr. Holstein's unique Selfie Films have taken many awards and have been shown in many film festivals and competitions. A full list can be found at SelfieFilmmakers.com. DVD's of many of her films are available at Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/MRG-Collective-Selfie-Project/dp/B089781TKJ/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=the+selfie+project+holstein&qid=1608215078&sr=8-1

Holstein's podcast series is actively seeking change-makers and visionaries to appear on her monthly podcasts. Dr. Holstein hopes to feature members of traditional media, mental health professionals and educators who can make a real difference in the lives of young people. Many of the podcasts feature young people - to give them a voice regarding their concerns and their solutions. Guests, if accepted, can arrange to appear by contacting Dr. Holstein directly.

New Video Segment On Video Channel Dedicated To Special Needs Children And Angels Announced By Award Winning Author Jody Sharpe

Sharpe's new video channel features angel stories and stories from her experience working with special needs children.

Jody Sharpe's latest book, 'Special Needs Children, The Angels On My Shoulder' is a memoir based on her twenty-five years teaching children with special needs. It’s a love story about the special students and others who over the years graced her life with just that, their grace.

With hearts of angels and challenges to face, the children took Sharpe along their journeys and inspired her own life’s journey of self-discovery. When sorrow came, their kindness helped her through. The synchronicity of events from high school to retirement changed her life for the better, turning her face toward heaven.

"Angels are real and are there to touch us with love and goodwill," award winning author Jody Sharpe stated in a recent blog post. She knows this to be a fact.

Jody spreads this message in a number of ways. She has written a series of books about real life angels in everyday situations. She has written a children's book about angels interacting with children. Her latest book centers on special needs children. She accepts angels stories from the public for the 'Tuesdays With The Angels' section of her blog. Her video channel brings all of this together, offering segments on all of these topics. One topic of special interest is bullying, specifically as it relates to special needs children.

"Bullying happens at some point to all of us either in person or on social media," Sharpe wrote. "When very personal unkind questions were posed to me the other day, I didn’t hesitate. For long ago I realized the gift of love, forgiveness and carrying on.

"As I write in my novels and blogs, the bully is the ultimate sad character. He or she never wins while only trying to feel superior by hurting others.

"Today in our world, I believe there’s a spiritual awakening and only love can mend us all. Loving yourself and others is the only armor anyone needs to counteract any cruelty. The angels have been with me on Tuesdays and everyday all my wonderful grateful life."

Jody is the author of five books. Her latest book, 'Special Needs Children, The Angels On My Shoulder', is as entertaining as it is illuminating. Readers will likely never look at special needs children in the same way again.

One Amazon review stated, "This book should be required reading for all teaching students; not just special needs teachers. This book has so much value in demonstrating the positive affects that teachers can have on students, and also the blessings that students provide to their teachers. It would show new teachers personal benefits which they may have not yet realized. It is heart-warming and adorable.; absolutely enjoyable for everyone. It is short, but effective, and I am sure that many other teachers have examples they could add . . ."

The new book follows her recently released children's book about angels, "When The Angel Sent Butterflies". The new book helps children understand that love from their parents and others surrounds them. Love conquers fear and believing that angels are near can help sweep any childhood fear away. This concept is presented in the book when Angel Ken sends Jones and Kate butterflies. The book, appropriate for ages 2 to 7, is now available at Amazon and Ingram.

Jody's works center on angels on earth and the expression of their love and protection through synchronicity. On the 'Tuesdays With The Angels' section of her site, Sharpe presents stories of real life encounters with angels. The stories are available at Sharpe's website at http://www.jodysharpe.com.

In Sharpe's earlier, highly acclaimed novels, angels take on human form and interact with humanity in a variety of ways:

Town of Angels - It is angel vs. bully in the town of Mystic Bay, California, where a well kept secret lies. Angels live as humans there. After angels appeared to three children all was blissful in the town full of psychics, and ordinary folk. But as a bully, Klaus Waxman, comes to town, Angel Ken Leighton, a storeowner, must carefully guide his flock of humans not to give to in to the bully’s efforts. As Klaus opens a store mocking the resident angels sightings, Angel Ken guides psychic Justine Greer and her family to thwart his efforts. And with the help of the indomitable oldest psychic in town, Madam Norma, the bully meets his match with soft voices and intuitive minds…

To Catch An Angel - Jody is also the author of 'To Catch An Angel', written in memory of her late husband Steve. In 'To Catch An Angel', miracles happen in Mystic Bay, California, the town with the psychic and angel vibe. Angels are calling. Psychic Maggie Malone returns home to find she's swept up in the miracle of it all. She can't imagine why her mother left or who her father might be. But these questions pale in comparison to the wonder of the angels. Maggie meets writer, Noah Greenstreet. They realize they've met before, but where? Maggie and Noah embark on a journey to find our world is all awash with angels.

The Angel's Daughter - A secret lies in Mystic Bay, California and only two people know it. First there’s Hannah, a tender curly headed half Angel Then there’s her father, Gabe, an effervescent, teddy bear of a full-blooded angel. And it’s up to Hannah to keep the secret safe but she’s made a colossal mistake telling her ex-boyfriend and writing professor, Sam Blakely. Now he’s written a book exposing the secret to the world.

Sharpe presents stories and interviews about angels in her 'Tuesdays With The Angels' blog series. She is now accepting submissions of angel stories for possible inclusion. She hopes to create a collection of angel stories that involve sightings of angels, interaction with angels, miraculous angel encounters and other types of accounts or stories. All submissions will be considered, but inclusion is not guaranteed. Stories may be submitted at http://bit.ly/2FV8amd.

Jody was chosen as a winner in the annual '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' Book Awards'. She was chosen from a field of hundreds of authors through a public voting process.

Jody Sharpe is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below, or by email at sharpejody76@gmail.com. Angel stories can be submitted at http://bit.ly/2FV8amd. All of her books are available at online book retailers. New quotes will be added every Tuesday to the 'Tuesdays With The Angels' section of her blog, which can be found at her website at http://www.JodySharpe.com.

Profile:

Jody Sharpe had a rewarding career as a Special Education teacher. Writing about angels became healing after losing her daughter and then her husband. The valuable lessons she learned about moving forward and loving life in the now have set her on a mission to tell the stories with love, humor and spiritual awakening. The fictitious town of Mystic Bay has given her an avenue to put characters and themes together hopefully enlightening the reader towards contemplation of the precious life and memories we are given.

During The Pandemic, Travel The World Without Leaving Your Chair - Romantic Fiction Novels By Award Winning Author Gina Iafrate

Gina Iafrate writes sweeping family sagas that allow readers to travel the globe without leaving home.

The pandemic has forced us to change our lives in many ways. One of the most frustrating aspects of the "new normal" is the restrictions on travel. Covid fatigue has set in. Most of us have been forced to delay travel plans, quarantine and shelter in place. Planes and trains are not the only way to travel however.

Gina Iafrate writes sweeping family sagas that allow readers to travel the globe without leaving home. Like fine pieces of music, her books are layered, providing readers with intricately formed mental images, punctuated by dramatic movements. In the tradition of writers like John Grisham, Gina's extraordinary story lines reveal the richness of the human experience told through the eyes of finely drawn characters. Nearly all of her story lines involve rich and tactile descriptions of exotic places, placing the reader in the very midst of those locales.

Iafrate's travel and life experiences have set the scene for much of her writing. Known for her quick-paced narration and descriptive atmosphere, Gina's words take the reader on unforgettable journeys, along with the characters she creates. Gina's books include:

The English Professor

Andrew Robertson, an introverted, middle-aged professor leaves his unremarkable London life to embark on a journey to Sicily where strangers welcome him kindly. In this sensuous Mediterranean setting, he develops a burning infatuation for another man’s wife.

Falling into each other’s arms, Andrew and Francesca both satisfy and heighten the emotional and physical longing they have felt all their adult lives. Their union results in a child. But Andrew must go back to London and Francesca must protect herself, Andrew and their child from the violent reach of her husband.

The Girl From The Cornfield

It is 1950 and Giuliana Ferrante is growing up in a sleepy town deep in the Italian mountains. In this coming-of-age saga, her young life is rocked to its core by a vicious attack that shatters the peaceful existence that she and many around her have always taken for granted.

Giuliana, determined to make a future for herself, flourishes by working tirelessly toward her education, securing a legal degree and ultimately a successful position in the business world. She conquers all with kindness and love, managing to rise above the painful memories of her youth. This sweeping, inspirational tale hurdles across time, countries, and characters as it explores how love can heal, reconcile, and restore.

Bestowed By Love And Splendour

A breath-taking story of a broken-hearted wife and mother who unexpectedly finds the universal bliss takes her away from a tormented life, far across the ocean. On the exotic island of Sardinia, she becomes hypnotized by nature’s beauty; the cloudless sky, the emerald blue hues of the sea and the gentleness of the people. But fate strikes once more. Rare Interview With Highest Security Clearance Level Former MI6 Intelligence Officer Nicholas Anderson Now Available At The Authors Show

Anderson held the highest security clearance level a British intelligence officer could reach in MI6

More than ever the current political climate leads many of us to distrust those in power who make laws and decide on conflict engagements.  Is trusting them wise? How do we know they tell us the truth?

Because he is forbidden to tell the truth, Nicholas Anderson writes in his NOC Trilogy a fictionalized account of his experiences as a high-level UK MI6 intelligence officer running covert operations in many countries across continents.  He experienced it all first-hand and heard it all in intelligence and government meetings of his country and its allies. He knows that truth and stories fed to the public too often are poles apart, and he wishes for the public to better understand what goes on behind closed doors, especially about military and covert actions.

Nicholas Anderson, a pseudonym, held the highest security clearance level a British intelligence officer could reach in MI6 and for obvious reasons he must remain anonymous.  In a rare interview he discusses his books and the circumstances surrounding his telling it all in a fictionalized version of his exploits with “The Authors Show®” ’s Executive Producer, Danielle Hampson.  “When I reached overcover (retirement) only then did I think the extreme bravery of a small number of people doing extraordinary things and taking huge personal safety risks to protect us all, was not understood. It's not macho James Bond cliches, but normal people taking a deep breath and slipping undercover into war zones to keep everybody at home safer," says Mr. Anderson.

His need for anonymity combined with government eyes and ears never far away cause him to avoid conducting interviews and complicates getting his stories out to the world.  “Be prepared to have your preconceptions changed,” says Anderson.

“It is in the spirit of free speech and the right for citizens to better understand how things work behind the scene,” announces Danielle Hampson, “that The Authors Show is making available this rare interview on its web page https://wnbnetworkwest.com/featured-author/Nicholas Anderson in audio and video formats.  The page also includes a written transcription which may be used – with proper credit – by other media outlets.”

Christmas Read With Me Recommendations From Award Winning Author Donna Fletcher Crow

Crow writes meticulously researched, entertaining novels of romance, history, adventure and mystery in an engaging you-are-there style that allows readers to live the history. Reviewers have compared her work with PD James, Dan Brown and Barbara Pym.

A Google search on “best books for Christmas” returns just over 3.6 million listings. There is a lot of interest in Christmas books, and for good reason. Christmas and books just seem to go together somehow. Giving and receiving books as Christmas gifts is a universal Western tradition, as no movie, television show, radio drama or podcast could ever provide the immersive getaway experience that a good Christmas book can provide.

Unlike years gone by, finding the time to kick back, relax and read a Christmas book might be difficult in our modern day rush-rush-rush of Holiday preparation, shopping, Christmas gatherings and office parties. This year is different however, as this might be the only year in recent memory in which we actually have time to enjoy a leisurely read – one that can take us away from pandemics, travel restrictions, political upheavals, and all the rest. Award winning author Donna Fletcher Crow has a personal list of favorite Christmas books. She recently made some recommendations for Christmas reading

“For all of my adult life I have had a cherished fantasy. I see myself, with all my preparations done, lying on the sofa in front of the Christmas tree reading a Christmas novel. No matter that it never happens, I continue to hold to the shining image.

“2020 just might be the year. In spite of all the frustrations—and for some people real tragedies—of Covid-19, all the enforced closures and restrictions have given many of us more time. Perhaps enough time, even, to read a Christmas novel in front of a decorated tree.

“With that happy thought in mind—and we do need happy thoughts these days—I’m delighted to recommend some of my favorite seasonal reads.

“My annual daydream began way back in 1972 when Marjorie Holmes published “Two From Galilee.” This charming re-telling of the traditional Christmas story is the first of a trilogy by Holmes and has become something of a classic.

“Anne Perry is one of my perennially favorite authors. Her cozy Victorian mystery novels always deliver well-developed characters and well-researched history. Perry began in 2004 with “A Christmas Journey,” a seasonal novella featuring Vespasia Cumming-Gould from the Thomas Pitt series. This year Perry offers her 18th holiday novella, “A Christmas Resolution,” featuring Inspector Monk's right-hand man and his new wife. In each one, she draws from her rich stock of minor characters, featuring them in new locations and situations outside her regular series.

"Beginning in 2003 with “A Christmas Journey” Perry wrote a Christmas novella every year for 9 years, ending with “A Christmas Homecoming” in 2011. In each one, she draws from her rich stock of minor characters to feature them in new locations and situations outside her regular series.

“Another Victorian delight is Liz Curtis Higgs’ Christmas novella “A Wreath of Snow.” On Christmas Eve in Scotland, a young schoolteacher’s plans are frustrated and her life changed when her train journey home is upset by heavy snows and a mysterious stranger. My interview with Higgs about the background of the book is available on my blog.

“This year I have the fun of being able to offer a new book of my own for your Christmas reading list. “A Lighted Lamp, Scenes of Christmas Through Time” is a collection of stories ranging from Scotland a thousand years ago to modern England (with visits to the American prairie in between) as people through the ages find light and hope in the joy of the season.

“For a more thorough exploration of the season, in an unusual setting, “An All-Consuming Fire,” book 5 in my Monastery Murders, features a Christmas wedding in a monastery—if the bride can escape the murderer stalking the Yorkshire moors.”

Donna Fletcher Crow is the author of 50 books, mostly novels of British history. She has taken a number of high-level industry awards for her work. 'Glastonbury' is her best-known book, which received the prestigious First Place, Historical Novel, award from the National Federation of Press Women. Readers and reviewers have raved about 'Glastonbury', calling it "The best of its kind," "richly fascinating," "beautifully researched," "gloriously evocative," and "panoramic." One Amazon reader said, "WHAT a work! Every reader can be enveloped in the sheer scope and quality, every historian be constantly nodding at the precise detail and accuracy, and every Christian can rejoice in the fullness of scripture. For me it is simply beyond descriptive praise. I would urge all who value truth to treat themselves to a feast."

The Monastery Murders Series features atmospheric contemporary crimes with their roots buried deep in the middle ages. Books in the series include 'A Very Private Grave', 'A Darkly Hidden Truth', 'An Unholy Communion', 'A Newly Crimsoned Reliquary', 'An All-Consuming Fire' and the newly-released 'Against All Fierce Hostility.'

The Daughters of Courage, 'Kathryn', 'Elizabeth' and 'Stephanie' is a pioneer family saga based on the stories of Crow's own family and other Idaho pioneers in the Kuna, Nampa and Boise area. A short story on her blog entitled “A Nostalgic Fourth of July” is based on a scene from ‘Kathryn: Days of Loss and Hope'.

Where There is Love is a 6-book series of the enduring legacy of love and faith all based on historic people and events. The titles are: ‘Where Love Begins’, ‘Where Love Illumines’, ‘Where Love Triumphs’, ‘Where Love Restores’, ‘Where Love Shines’, and ‘Where Love Calls’.

The Elizabeth & Richard Mysteries is a literary suspense series using literary figures as background: Rudyard Kipling in 'The Flame Ignites', Dorothy L Sayers in 'The Shadow of Reality', Shakespeare in 'A Midsummer Eve's Nightmare', and Jane Austen in both 'A Jane Austen Encounter' and 'A Most Singular Venture'. Watch for 'A Prodigious Sum of Corpses: Seeking Sanditon at Jane Austen’s Seashore', which will take readers to all of Austen’s favorite seashore resorts. Accounts of Crow’s visits to these sites are available on her blog under the heading “Jane Austen Seashore Tour.”

The Lord Danvers Victorian true-crime series is an Amazon bestseller in the British Detectives category. Books in the series include 'A Lethal Spectre', 'A Most Inconvenient Death', 'Grave Matters', 'To Dust You Shall Return' and 'A Tincture of Murder'. Donna provides a no-charge download of 'A Tincture of Murder' for those who sign up for her newsletter. More information is available at her website.

Donna Fletcher Crow's awards include:

Where Love Begins, Best Historical Romance, Pinnacle Awards 2019
A Lethal Spectre, Best Mystery, Pinnacle Awards, 2019

Recovery from Addiction During The Covid-19 Pandemic—Bestselling Author Linville Meadows MD Explains Why Those Addicted To Drugs and Alcohol, Including Physicians, Are At Special Risk from Infection by Coronavirus

Physicians overcome addiction to alcohol and drugs at higher rates than the general population, but stress, isolation, and lack of recovery support place them at high risk of dying and threatens their long-term sobriety.

“Covid-19 has seriously impacted recovery from Substance Use Disorder,” says Amazon bestselling author, Linville M. Meadows, M.D. “According to a National Institutes of Health study, addicts are more likely to catch COVID-19, to be hospitalized, or die from it.”

Meadows’ recovery from addiction to cocaine and alcohol, and the spiritual pathway he found for overcoming his disease, are the subject of his new book, ‘A Spiritual Pathway to Recovery from Addiction.’

Meadows went on, “Dr. Sanjay Gupta of CNN suggested that it is especially difficult for those just beginning their recovery. Doctors, lawyers, and white-collar professionals are particularly vulnerable. As a result, drug overdoses have risen by 18%, according to The Guardian.

“Social distancing has forced many 12 Step programs, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, to suspend their meetings. The need for an effective treatment for substance abuse has never been greater,” said Meadows.

Meadows’ recovery began in 1997. “Most 12 Step programs offer from 10 to 20% sobriety at one year. But the intensive program designed for physicians yields over 70% at five years!” The techniques used to achieve this wonderful result from the basis of his book and are available to everyone.

The pandemic affects all of us but, for the addict, forced isolation can remove much of the connection and the accountability of peer-centered recovery programs. Addiction - be it to alcohol, heroin, cocaine, opioids or any other substance - when combined with social isolation, exacerbates the challenges addicts must deal with. According to an article on the Atlanta Jewish Times site, Leslie Lubell, program manager of HAMSA stated, “The patients can’t survive on their own.”

Dr. Linville Meadows is an Honors graduate of the U.N.C. School of Medicine, was recognized internationally for his work in cancer research, and was designated as a Clinical Investigator of the National Cancer Institute. His personal experiences, and his observations of other addicts and alcoholics seeking recovery, laid the groundwork for his bestselling book on recovery, ‘A Spiritual Pathway to Recovery from Addiction: A Physician's Journey of Discovery’.

His approach to the subject is utterly unique, as it is the memoir of a group of physicians going through an intensive rehab program. It is presented as a collection of the stories and lessons they encountered during their time together. It is a step-by-step guide to understanding the disease of addiction and how to treat it effectively, presented in a way that is both highly informative and wildly entertaining.

Dr. Meadows' concepts have been featured by Psychology Today, Psychiatry Times, and TheFix.com. In this #1 Amazon bestseller, readers will discover how to overcome addiction through the use of spiritual principles, like honesty, compassion, and faith; a simple and successful treatment that works for impaired physicians and can be used by anyone. Readers will benefit from having information that may greatly increase their chances of successful recovery from addiction.

“I woke up on my 49th birthday and realized that I was addicted to drugs and alcohol and that my life was spinning wildly out of control. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t stop. Some days I wanted passionately to quit and some days I just didn't care. I had reached a point where I could no longer use and live. It was either quit or die, and then something happened. I found recovery.”

Some of the topics covered in the book include:

The disease concept of addiction
Overcoming the denial and the uncontrollable craving
Finding the openness, honesty, and willingness to change
Dealing with past mistakes and removing character defects
Exchanging my old addictive ways of thinking for healthier ones
Finding spiritual principles I can live by
Living without fear or worry
Finding happiness within myself

While the book is appropriate for any person who might wish to explore the topics of addiction and recovery, those for whom it will hold the most value include:

The reader who wants to know if his drinking is actually out of control.
The reader who knows he is in trouble, and wants to change.
The old-timer in recovery who wants to learn more about his disease.
Their families and friends.
The practitioner who treats these people.

The new book has received rave reviews from readers and reviewers alike. Ralph Snyderman, M.D., Chancellor Emeritus, Duke University stated, "If there is any book you plan to read about addiction this year, it should be this one as it will be a classic for anyone wanting to understand the mind of addicted physicians (and others) and what it takes to recover”. The Prairies Book Review said, “This outstanding guide with cogent insights into the nightmarish world of addiction and recovery is a must-read for anyone who thinks he has a problem with addiction.”

Dr. Larry Goodman, author of ‘Fridays With Goodman’ said, "The book's value is as a contemporary guide to recovery, set in plain English, as compared to the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. In my coaching world, there are many, many, many, many people, who have not yet reached the point of incomprehensible demoralization that is active addiction, or who are in families where addiction is rampant, who will be served by this book."

Dr. Meadows is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at meadowslin@gmail.com. ‘A Spiritual Pathway to Recovery from Addiction: A Physician's Journey of Discovery’ is available at online book outlets. More information can be found on his website at https://www.spiritualpathwaytorecovery.com.
