Understanding Alcohol And Drug Addiction Symptoms Is Not So Simple Says Harriet Hunter, Author Of Bestselling Book About Recovery, 'Miracles Of Recovery'

Hunter's award-winning book, Miracles of Recovery, became the first-place recipient of the coveted President’s Award in nonfiction from the Florida Authors and Publishers Association. Miracles features 365 powerful daily inspirations from a holistic view of recovery.

Substance Use Disease (SUD) is a form of disorder that is difficult to diagnose - not because the symptoms are concealed or masked, but (in many cases) because the addict refuses to acknowledge the presence of the disease. The refusal to admit there is a problem does not solve the problem. Therein lies the insidious nature of addiction. Harriet Hunter, bestselling author of Miracles Of Recovery, addressed this subject in a recent article titled, "Alcohol And Drug Addiction Symptoms". That article reads in part:

There is no other destroyer of brain cells like the subtleness of alcohol and the persistence of drugs.

For many of us, alcohol attacks without warning, infiltrating and insidious warping an otherwise logical mind. According to our literature, those who are under the spell of a Substance Use Disease, those with SUD are by and large over-achievers in every other aspect of their lives except for the symptoms and manifestations alcohol and drugs. This barrage begins, as brain cells and synapses falter, become damaged and die. Some of us were blackout drinkers right away, some are bingers, people who drink over short periods of a time while others seem to have an unlimited ability to drink around the clock. Then for many others, there are those for whom we will never understand: those who can take it or leave it:

They walk away, with booze, beer or wine left in their glass, and they leave it.

We know the effects are so elusive that we believe we need more, and we do. For us, there’s always the need for more. Alcohol works without a break behind the scenes demanding ever-earnest cooperation from its host, with each sip.

Research, according to Iranpour A, Nakhaee N. A Review of Alcohol-Related Harms: A Recent Update. Addict Health. 2019 Apr;11(2):129-137. doi:10.22122/ahj.v11i2.225 shows that alcohol misuse can increase the risk of many different health issues such as:

Lung, throat, esophagus, brain, stomach, liver, rectum, and breast cancers, Liver disease, Chronic kidney disease, Congestive heart failure, Stroke, Pneumonia, Severe depression and anxiety, violent acts or outbursts, Erectile dysfunction, Low libido

Like a deadly insect waiting to attack, alcohol seeks the softness of internal organs and begins destruction even as we feel fine.

ALCOHOL IS A THREE-FOLD DISEASE OF PERCEPTION:
We experience “the phenomena of craving,” described in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, that begins before we pick up the first drink. It is this mental obsession to drink that drives the physiological phenomena of craving, the insatiable need to have another that kick-starts our journey into insanity. These events, together with a soul-sickness that points to our own self-reliance, work together to mask an illusion of grandeur.

Booze transforms our thinking away from the logic of our reality. We see, hear and believe the person we always wanted to be, but never was. Many of us became boisterous, outgoing, or downright dangerous, while others captivated us with voices of conviviality they never knew they possessed. Still others prefer the isolation drinking brings.

Alcoholism never stops. It moves forward, insisting upon our utmost attention in pursuit of complete ownership of our soul. It is always with us, growing like a cancer when engaged in our bloodstream of those affected until we put it into remission with abstinence, or death, or until we quit—once and for all.

What makes alcohol so popular is its reliability, and that for those over 21 or younger in some states, it is legal and accessible. We know what we can expect from our drink of choice. Compared to the faux-complexity of drugs, 80 percent alcohol is still, 80 percent alcohol. This, combined with ease of availability strips away most of our concerns as one drink becomes too many, but yet, one-hundred is never enough.

The National Institute of Alcohol and Alcohol Abuse mentioned in 2018 that 88,000 people die each year to alcohol-related deaths. This goes on to say that globally, alcohol misuse was the fifth leading risk factor for premature death and disability in 2010. Now these statistics can be doubled with the onslaught of the Pandemic, isolation, job loss and so much more.

While opioids may lead the way in addiction abuse, benzodiazepines, stimulants and sleep medications are a dangerous threat to our health such as:

• Gastrointestinal issues such as vomiting or nausea
• Decreased respiratory (lung) function
• Seizures
• Mood changes
• Dangerously high body temperatures
• Declines in brain functions such as memory and the ability to think clearly
• Paranoia or aggressive behaviors
• Coma
• Death

Unfortunately for the real alcoholic or addict, none of these potential harms seem to make any difference. Our disease tells us they may happen to other people, but not to us.

While there are many treatment approaches and programs, what is common to successful individuals who find themselves within a substance abuse program is the shared pain and the loneliness, often with an ongoing support system for the person battling the disease. That support system is what Harriet Hunter offers in “Miracles of Recovery: Daily Meditations of Hope, Courage and Faith.”

Featuring 365-daily inspirations. Miracles of Recovery was written not just for those addicted, but for the parents, the spouses - anyone touched by the disease because addiction is absolutely a family affair. Using the foundation of 12-Step Recovery, Miracles of Recovery embraces holistic suggestions as a practical approach for those who must face life on life’s terms, clean and sober. Encouraging and thought-provoking, Miracles of Recovery inspires with Universal Truths, “because,” Harriet says, “Once we know better, we do better.”

Miracles of Recovery shows through personal examples how to achieve long-term sobriety by embracing new behavior and positive reinforcement, regardless of what happens in one’s life. She offers a personal, sometimes raw reflection of the truth about addiction seldom seen elsewhere.

Tools necessary to maintain sobriety and change one's life through changing one’s perspective are also proposed. Miracles of Recovery suggests that readers "Do life differently," through exercises, solutions, and methods to improve self-esteem, confidence, and embrace a profound sense of hope needed to succeed. The author spurs the reader to embrace the belief that, regardless of challenges life presents, “NOTHING can change the course of recovery when you keep yourself, your sobriety, and your Higher Power first in your life.” In short, Miracles of Recovery offers hope where there is none through a simple program of actions for complicated people.

Hunter has received rave reviews for her work from readers and reviewers alike. Vernita Taylor of Readers Favorite stated, “Miracles of Recovery: Daily Meditations of Hope, Courage, and Faith by Harriet Hunter is a great choice if you’re struggling with addiction because it offers a full year of inspiration and affirmations which I enjoyed. I see this book as a mentor or sponsor that is walking by your side and helping to lead you to a better, more improved you while teaching you how to deal with your stressors. The best teacher is someone who has been there and done that, and this book doesn’t disappoint. The author knows first-hand what it takes and how it feels to be addicted. If you need help along your journey, pick up a copy of this book; it’s highly recommended.”

Anthony Capozzolli of Dismantled Life Podcast said, “Miracles of Recovery has been a feast for my recovering soul. Every page is filled with love and helpful insights that lead to discovery. I read each page by date and randomly turn to other pages for an additional spiritual hug when I need one. It’s almost as if Harriet wrote her wonderful book for me. Page after page hits so close to home I often tear up from positive awareness and clarity of emotion.”

Miracles of Recovery received the first place President’s Award in nonfiction from the Florida Authors and Publishers Association.

Since her walk into recovery in 1999, Harriet has had one primary purpose: to show others how they can achieve their miracles while staying sober with a vision and determination to never go backwards, one day at a time.

Using her experience strength and hope, Harriet strives to be a conduit of encouragement to others in their disease of alcoholism and drugs of choice, by showing them what continues to work. With practical tools, principles and promises as found in A.A., and other 12-step programs, she mirrors examples of how anyone can be free from the bondage of self, regardless of their situation.

With each purchase of a personalized autograph copy of Miracles of Recovery from her website, Hunter provides a no-charge copy of her e-book, "Your Daily Reprieve; How To Maintain Long-Term Sobriety Serenely Just For Today" in PDF format.

Criminal Justice Reform - Quick Fixes Will Not Work Says TB Collings, Author Of Bestselling Police Drama, Dharma Cop, Tales Of Street Zen

Collings is a former lay monk who ended up working the streets of New York City as a law enforcement officer. His riveting story is detailed in Dharma Cop, Tales of Street Zen

TB Collings spent 30 years working in the criminal justice system. Prior to this he spent years in Zen meditation and mindfulness training in Japan and China. This seems like an unlikely background for a street cop. He has been on a 40 year quest to integrate these ancient disciplines into his work as a law enforcement officer, social worker and addiction counselor in New York’s roughest neighborhoods.

Collings recently posted an article on his website entitled, "Criminal Justice Reform - Separating Myth From Reality." In that piece he stated in part:

"Social issues like crime, criminal justice reform, mass incarceration and policing are very complex. The loudest voices often push simplistic solutions reflecting their limited viewpoint, accomplishing nothing more than distorting the issues. Whether progressive or conservative - the common feature of all these groups, with a 'tribal' mentality, is a response to complexity which denies all facts that do not fit neatly into their myopic view.

“Quick fixes are easy, but effective reform requires a difficult process which includes: diversity of viewpoints reflecting the interests of every group impacted, exhaustive fact finding with unbiased analysis, constructive conflict with negotiation, and a time consuming period of trial and error.

“The recent mass subway shootings in New York City by a deranged individual named Frank R. James highlights the results of 'quick fix' solutions cities and state legislatures have enacted in the wake of the infamous death of George Floyd. It is what often happens when politicians ride a wave of popular outrage and emotion following some tragic event.

“It is obvious that America incarcerates far too many young men, particularly young men of color.

"So COURT DIVERSION programs, BAIL(elimination)REFORM, kinder-gentler PROSECUTORS, and more LENIENT PAROLE OFFICERS are being sold as 'solutions.' They are actually simplistic 'quick fixes' that avoid real underlying issues that cause more harm than good."

The full text of the piece is available at https://DharmaCop.com.

Can soldiers, cops, and first responders who routinely face danger and violence maintain their humanity? Can we act aggressively when needed without losing our compassion? In DHARMA COP: Tales of Street Zen Thomas Collings shares riveting stories of his 26 years working with convicts, drug addicts and emotionally disturbed individuals on the streets of New York, as both a social worker and a law enforcement officer. High stress encounters where split second life and death decisions are made.

Finding conflict resolution in many potentially violent confrontations, required all he learned during his years of monastic training in Japan and China. How to act rather than react? How to be still when those around you are acting out of anger, fear and desperation? How can a cop act from a place of wisdom and poise, to be a true peace officer?

Starting out as a troubled kid who turns to drugs and alcohol for relief, Thomas eventually commits himself to a life of clarity and stability through a variety of Asian disciplines, which he shares in this book. Learn how to use "soft power" as you follow the author out into the streets. As you read Tales of Street Zen, you will find more compassion for others, even in situations of conflict. You will find peaceful resolution where others see no hope. These stories offer proven strategies for success in high-stress situations whether you are a cop, health care worker, teacher or anyone who finds themself facing stressful encounters.

The book recently achieved bestseller status in several categories. Readers have praised Dharma Cop: Tales Of Street Zen. One reader wrote, "His stories alone could be television or movie scripts about what is real life on the streets. Far more interesting than the formulaic nonsense shown on the screen nowadays. It is both an easy read and provides real insight. Hard to beat that." Another said, "This book has amazing stories about officer experience combined with meditation." Another stated, "Gripping read of real life stories from a real life character. Don't miss the chance to pick this up and be taken back to the gritty days of NYC and one man trying to make a difference."

TB Collings is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at tbarc9@gmail.com. Dharma Cop, Tales Of Street Zen is available in paperback and ebook versions at Amazon. More information is available at his website at https://DharmaCop.com.

About TB Collings:

Years of Zen meditation and mindfulness training in Japan and China seems an unlikely background for a street cop, but Tom Collings says it was “exactly what I needed to tame this wild mind.” His years traveling through Asia, studying with both Zen and martial arts masters was what he calls his essential “internal education.”

In DHARMA COP: Tales of Street Zen, Collings shares his 40 year quest to integrate these ancient disciplines into his work as a law enforcement officer, social worker and addiction counselor in New York’s roughest neighborhoods.

How To Alleviate Stress Using Principles Available For Thousands Of Years: Donna Louis' Bestselling Book, Book of Proverbs - Proverbs For The Modern Day, Shows Us God's Answer To Modern Day Problems

Louis is the bestselling author of three inspirational Christian books. Louis’ books reveal God’s desire for our happiness and joy.

We are in the midst of a mental health crisis. That crisis has been brought about by stress. Stress levels are at all time highs. A years-long pandemic that caused millions of death, coupled with loss of employment, social unrest, lockdowns, political infighting - the list goes on and on. According to the CDC website, "Stress can cause the following:

Feelings of fear, anger, sadness, worry, numbness, or frustration
Changes in appetite, energy, desires, and interests
Difficulty concentrating and making decisions
Nightmares or problems sleeping
Physical reactions, such as headaches, body pains, stomach problems, or skin rashes
Worsening of chronic health problems and mental health conditions
Increased use of alcohol, illegal drugs (like heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine), and misuse of prescription drugs (like opioids)"

There are hundreds of approaches to alleviating stress - everything from yoga to psychotherapy, vitamins and natural remedies, music, breathing, walking, chocolate, journaling, prescription drugs - the choices are endless.

There is another way to help alleviate stress that goes directly to the source. It has been with us for thousands of years. And for century after century, it has worked. That remedy is faith. Bestselling Christian author Donna Louis shows us how these concepts can be applied to modern day problems in 'Book of Proverbs - Proverbs For The Modern Day'.

"Stress kills," Louis stated. "It weakens the heart and brains. How do you overcome that? You follow Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

"Now the key words here are trust, lean, and acknowledge. We must learn how to trust God the same way we trust a man-made roller coaster that when we get in it, we trust we will enjoy the ride and be back on the ground within 4 to 4 ½ minutes safely. We need to lean on God knowing that he is a strong tower and will always work things together for our good because he said in his word, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” – 3 John 1:2. God made it very clear when he said that he is a jealous God.

"We must acknowledge God always - daily. The Bible says, “For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord; and there is none else.” – Isaiah 45:18.

If we dutifully give significance to these three words and keep God as the MAINLINE and not the sideline whenever stress comes, it will roll off our back like water rolls off a duck's back."

Book of Proverbs - Proverbs For The Modern Day achieved #1 Best Selling status within 10 days of its release in Christian Devotionals & Christian Inspirational. It received a 5-star rating from Readers Favorite.

If you are struggling with daily life itself or maybe even deeper issues like hopelessness and depression, this book will help you. If you're looking for hope, peace, happiness, prosperity, wisdom, and the fullness of life, look no further.

Book Of Proverbs: Proverbs For The Modern Day delves deeply into the timeless human quest for wisdom. As all Christians know, the primary purpose of the Biblical Book of Proverbs is to teach wisdom. The Book of Proverbs provides intellectual depth, insights, and exceptional wisdom on how to live a meaningful, joyful and tranquil life by honoring and respecting God as omnipotent.

This updated version of Book Of Proverbs: Proverbs For The Modern Day, discusses all chapters in Proverbs 1-31 and brings insight, clarity, and basic meaning to several verses in each chapter. It clarifies why wisdom is not only essential, but mandatory in life, if one hopes to live a blessed life, versus living destitute, empty, or feeling lost or hopeless.

Donna Louis’ prior best-selling book, ‘Thriving in Every Season of Life with God’, gives us a road map to create a mindset - a new life in which we can learn to prosper in any circumstance, however dire. The book achieved bestseller status in two categories: Spiritual Self Help and Motivational Self Help.

To understand what it means to "thrive," we must look beyond the dimension of finances. The concept of thriving can be applied to our health, our relationships, our habits and our peace of mind. God wants us to thrive. But it does not just happen - we must take action to make it happen.

Set against the backdrop of four "seasons of life", Louis, in the tradition of writers such as Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyer, discusses how you can thrive, prosper, and flourish. Much like growing crops, we prepare in spring, grow in summer, harvest in fall and rest in winter. At times, we must nurture and cultivate, at other times we bloom and reproduce, and at other times we harvest and replant.

Thriving In Every Season Of Life With God is a book that can be read in just a few hours and provides readers with powerful ideas and concepts that can be implemented immediately, allowing them to thrive in the midst of adversity. The book received a five-star rating from Readers Favorite.

Donna also presents powerful ideas and concepts via her YouTube video series, ‘Motivational Mondays With Donna’. The video series is available at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJCieSU2FYdC09F3YNkfzDw.

Donna Louis' first book, 'Miracles of Direction, Miracles of Conquest, Miracles of Provision and Miracles of Purpose' helps readers explore miracles both past and present. The book explores biblical miracles that took place while Jesus was here on earth. She then references with miracles that take place on a daily basis in the modern world. She separates these miracles into four categories and presents insightful examples of each type, taken directly from the Bible.

Louis knows her subject well, as she has personally experienced four miracles. As the result of those life-altering experiences, she began an in-depth study of some of Christianity's most well-documented miracles. In her book, she attempts to expand upon and explain both the purpose and the direction of those miracles.

Louis has won a number of industry awards. She was chosen as the winner in the 2018 Top Female Author Awards in the Religion/Philosophy/Spiritual category. Louis was chosen from an international field of contestants by a panel of judges. She was also a winner in the 2018 50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading Awards.

Louis' recent wins follow three awards in the 50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading Awards contest (2015, 2016 and 2017), and two nominations in the Top Female Authors Awards.

'Miracles' has received rave reviews from readers. One review called it "amazing, uplifting and inspirational". Another stated, "I was profoundly impressed by the writing."

Several of Donna Louis' recent interviews will be featured a number of times this week on The Authors Show at https://theauthorsshow.com.

Donna Louis is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below, or by email at donnalouisgodsmessenger@aol.com. More information is available at her website. Bruce Calhoun, Bestselling Author And President Of Save The Rainforest, Describes How He Became A Net Zero Carbon Emitter

All of us can make a personal and powerful contribution to the effort to save the planet for ourselves, our children and future generations through the Voluntary Carbon Market.

Climate change is not coming. It is already here. We cannot wait to take action - we must do it today. One of the ways we can help our children, grandchildren and future generations is by making an effort to offset our own carbon footprint. It's easier than most of us imagine. And it can be done with minimal effort.

Bruce Calhoun is the President of Save The Rainforest and is the author of a new bestselling book, 'Averting The Climate Change Abyss'. He recently posted an article in which he described how he offset his own carbon footprint:

I try to tread lightly on the planet. I weather-strip, make use of passive solar, and keep my thermostat at 67 degrees in the winter and 77 degrees in the summer. I also multipurpose when running errands in the car, and bicycle almost everywhere weather permitting. Even so, I am adding CO2 to the atmosphere; exacerbating climate change and thereby contributing to the demise of coral reefs, polar icecaps and low lying coastlines. So I asked myself, how do I ameliorate my negative impact on Mother Earth? The answer came in a flash; I offset my carbon emissions through the Voluntary Carbon Market.

Here’s how I did it. I went to the website of Save the Rainforest, Inc. and selected a project that sold carbon credits. I chose a renewable energy project in India – which took me to the website of the United Nations Carbon Offset Platform – entered 16 tons (average annual footprint for a North American) in the purchase box and clicked “add to cart”. That was it. I paid $49.60 with my MasterCard and became a Net-Zero carbon emitter. The whole process took me five minutes.

But, I didn’t stop there. I wanted to do more. So I went back to the Save the Rainforest, Inc. site and selected another project. This time it was a project that protected rainforests, coastal wetlands and mangrove estuaries in Guatemala. The project offered credits at a higher price, but I decided to offset one more ton of CO2 because the project had so many co-benefits (aside from sequestering carbon it preserved critically endangered habitat and drastically improved the lives of local peoples). This brought the total cost of my carbon offsetting portfolio to $69.60 and took me only a few extra minutes.

If you are an individual inclined to follow my example all you have to do is go to www.savetherainforestnow.org to get started. If you own a small business or are the CEO of a corporation you can also get started by going to the website. You can look over the same projects and afterwards contact me to receive your “Road Map” to offsetting your carbon emissions. The map will guide your through the process of finding project developers from whom you can purchase a large number of credits at a greatly reduced price.

The Save the Rainforest, Inc. website is not the only place you can access crucial information on carbon offsetting. My latest book, Averting the Climate Change Abyss, has just come out on Amazon. It features carbon offset projects as well, but also puts everything in perspective; beginning with a Humpty Dumpty analogy and ending with a tale of three climatologists stranded on a desert island.

Bruce's new book elucidates the importance of tropical forests as a repository of biodiversity, a home to indigenous people and a storehouse for carbon. Short and succinct, it also provides an easy-to-follow roadmap on how businesses, institutions and individuals can offset their carbon footprint through the Voluntary Carbon Market, which topped one billion dollars in trades during 2021 and is expected to expand 15-fold by the end of the decade. The e-book recently hit #1 in conservation. One Amazon reviewer said, "This is an important read for all, especially educators, who are committed to understanding and teaching about the role of rainforests and global climate change. Bruce does a deep dive into rainforest conservation and the ecological services they provide our planet. I am especially impressed with the bibliographical links and climate change action resources at the end of the book. Well done! An excellent read and resource!”

The new book is available at Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/Bruce-Calhoun/e/B001K7VUVK/ref=dp_byline_cont_pop_ebooks_1.

The legacy of Save The Rainforest, Inc., founders Bruce Calhoun, Butch Beedle, and the early teacher and student Founders is real. Over 10,000 students have participated in life-changing trips and over $500,000 has been donated to protect and rehabilitate rainforest land.

Their vision for the future is broad in scope. With partnerships and a dedicated and professional staff, they support indigenous youth in their quest to become the next generation of forest protectors. They have worked with the Yakum Foundation for years and are supporting their efforts to protect their rainforest in Ecuador and build cultural, medicinal and food sovereignty.

Once the pandemic subsides, they intend to send thousands of students from all over the world on Save The Rainforest trips (the majority are which are from disadvantaged backgrounds) and protect 20,000+ more acres of vital, climate stabilizing rainforest over the next five years.

Romanella's best-selling book, Tighten The Lug Nuts, was recently ranked #1 in Business Leadership and Business Management. Rocky is a former CEO with over 40 years of experience and has recently developed a new podcast, The Leadership Library Podcast.

In a recent newsletter, top motivational speaker and author of the best-selling book, Tighten The Lug Nuts, offered some insight on how great leaders can create a high performance culture through effective communication. In that piece he wrote, in part:

Great leaders connect their people with information to create a high-performance culture through Effective Communication. They are not the leaders who go into separate rooms and text each other to work out their problems.

To be a Good Communicator you first need to understand your role as a leader, what you do, as well as what’s expected of you. Start with your Communication Goals.

Communication Goals

Inform, educate, and inspire employees in all business units, at all levels to:
◦ Understand and embrace changes to the business
◦ What it means to them
◦ How they contribute to the company’s reputation and growth

Three Types of Communications
• To inform
• To receive information
• To solve a problem

Communications Objectives
• Help stakeholders gain an understanding of the direction of the organization and become committed to its success
• Inspire leaders to own, support process changes and lead by example so the desired culture is institutionalized
• Provide context for the change to give employees a line-of-sight between their efforts, the organization’s performance, and our shared rewards
• Set clear expectations for employees so they understand their role in the organization
• Neutralize opposition to change by demonstrating the benefits of the new vision and its supporting initiatives

The Man Who Participated In The Capture The Bin Laden Of His Day - A Bee In His Bonnet By Bestselling Author Bernard Attains Bestseller Status

Bernard Fleury's sweeping saga relates the little-known tale of an All-American military hero who was instrumental in the capture of Faustino Ablen. The book would be of special interest of to collectors of early war memorabilia.

Bestselling author Bernard Fleury has announced that his creative non-fiction biography of Frank King, 'A Bee In His Bonnet', has attained bestseller status.

'A Bee in His Bonnet' is a one-of-a-kind, action packed, creative non-fiction biography by award-winning, bestselling author Bernard Fleury. The book is filled with one-of-a-kind images and reads very much like a modern day movie mega-thriller. The book offers readers a look into the life of an American soldier, Frank King, Fleury’s grandfather, who came to America in 1898 and stayed to become a career army man, profuse diarist, and world traveler. He fought in wars that few of us know, but whose repercussions are still felt today: The Spanish-American War, The Philippine Insurrection, and World War I.

“We were very lucky to be the grandchildren of Grandpa King,” Fleury stated. “We loved him dearly. He was a kind, giving man and a profuse diarist. His stories are recorded in 'A Bee in His Bonnet'.

Christmas eve 1958 was the final day of his heroic life, which I had the honor to witness up to the night he passed away. Kimberlee J Benart, in her Readers Favorite review of ‘A Bee In His Bonnet’ sums it up ‘Frank King’s life stands as a magnificent tribute to the caliber of man that he was”.

King’s Company G, Eighth Infantry, was involved in the earliest documented anti-terrorist campaigns in The Philippine Insurrection. King was present for the capture of Aguinaldo, and during his second tour there was personally instrumental in the capture of the Bin Laden of his day, Faustino Ablen. He served in the famous Third Division in World War I. He was officially cited twice for his heroism and the part he played in the famous battles at Champagne-Marne, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, and Chateau Thiery, under General John Pershing who attended Frank’s retirement, personally presenting his retirement papers. If you like to experience creative history as seen through the eyes and life of a man who lived it, you’ll love 'A Bee in His Bonnet'.

There are 28 original photos in the book including the photo of Faustino Ablen when captured. This photo was sent to the author by a Filipino professor who discovered it in a closed library once operated by Franciscan Friars. The photos cover 98 years from 1860 to 1958 in the Frank King story. They are an old photos collector's treasure.

Readers and reviewers have praised 'A Bee In His Bonnet'.

Sefina Hawke said, “A Bee in His Bonnet by Bernard J. Fleury is a well written biography that offers a unique perspective. The author uses old photos with captions and that really helped me to feel a connection with the people featured in this book. It allowed me to have a clear image in my head of what they actually looked like instead of having to rely purely on my imagination. I particularly liked learning about Frank King's part in the capture of Faustino Ablen. As I read this book, I found myself becoming interested in learning more about some of the wars Frank King fought in so that I could truly understand more about the role that he played in them as an individual soldier."

Arya Fomonyuy said, "This action-packed nonfiction story pulls the reader into the climates of war and makes them experience what it felt like to be at the front line. Told from the unique perspective of the soldier, the story is filled with relevant historical references and moments, a tale of courage and bravery in the face of war. The reader is transported to different historical places to experience some of the most grueling and intensive actions in war. The author captures very interesting historical details and enables readers to understand world politics and conflict from the point of view of someone who was actively and personally involved. The writing in A Bee in His Bonnet is beautiful and Bernard J. Fleury's literary skill and charm keep readers engaged. This is a tale of family, of war, of travel, and one man's dedication to his country."

Kimberly J. Benart stated, "A Bee in His Bonnet is the kind of book you don't want to put down once you start reading it. The word 'adventure' hardly captures the full breadth and scale of Dr. Fleury's treatment of his grandfather's life. The narrative and dialog keep the pace moving at a clip, while now and then there is a slight pause to remind the reader of the historical setting. I cried at the end, as I believe any reader would. This is a magnificent tribute by a grandson to his grandfather, just as Frank King's life stands as a magnificent tribute to the caliber of man that he was."

Bernard Fleury's books have received a large number of 5-star rated reviews. Two of his books, 'The Wing Walker' and 'Near Death Experience' have achieved bestseller status. He was also chosen as one of ‘50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading’ in the 2017 Book Awards. That honor came as a result of his appearance on The Authors Show. He was chosen from a field of hundreds of authors through a public voting process.

Bernard Fleury is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below, or by email at bernlida@comcast.net. 'A Bee In His Bonnet' is available at online retail book outlets. More information is available at his website at http://www.intolifebylight.com.

Jane Austen's Real Life Sanditon Mystery Is Explored By Bestselling Author Donna Fletcher Crow

Crow writes meticulously researched, entertaining novels of romance, history, adventure and mystery in an engaging you-are-there style that allows readers to live the history. Reviewers have compared her work with PD James, Dan Brown and Barbara Pym.

Sanditon, Season 2, is finally upon us. Much like the cliff-hanger ending of Sandition's wildly popular first season on PBS, the unfinished Jane Austen novel by the same name leaves us with a nagging question - where is the "real" Sanditon? Bestselling author and researcher Donna Fletcher Crow attempted to answer that question during a recent tour of English seaside resorts, in which she visited every resort on England's south coast that Jane Austen was thought to have visited. The results, including an assortment of original images, have been posted on her blog in an article titled, "Jane Austen's Real Sandition, The Facts Behind The Fiction." Fans of the Sanditon series will surely find her conclusions of interest, and will find the tour fascinating.

Crow said in a recent interview, “The seaside provided Jane Austen with exquisite settings for character development and plot twists. Readers will immediately think of Persuasion with Louisa Musgrove’s fall from the Cobb in Lyme, Fanny Price’s demoralizing return to Portsmouth in Mansfield Park, and, of course, the focus on the burgeoning development of sea-bathing resorts in the unfinished Sanditon—which is now providing makers of the popular TV series with stunning views of sky, sand, and sea for their smash hit.

“I had long wanted to visit the sites of these scenes which had given me so much reading pleasure, and in the spring of 2019 I was privileged to do just that. My research trip encompassed every resort on England’s south coast that Jane was known—or thought—to have visited. Unlike the scenes in her two major novels where she names well-known towns, Austen chose to set Sanditon in a fictional village, but Tom Parker’s role of enthusiastic developer follows the historical accounts of many such sea-bathing spas.

“My questions quickly became, which of these was Austen picturing in her mind, which of her own experiences was she reliving, which real-life people were serving as models for her in this, her last, creative undertaking?

“I found many clues and fascinating bits of evidence to the model for the “real” Sanditon—which was undoubtedly a composite of the many locations Austen was familiar with. I have had great fun sharing the results of my research with my readers in a series of articles.”

Donna Fletcher Crow is the author of 50 books, mostly novels of British history. She has taken a number of high-level industry awards for her work. Many of her books have been bestsellers in their categories, including 'A Most Inconvenient Death', which achieved #1 bestseller status in Christian Suspense. 'The Fields of Bannockburn', the epic from which The Celtic Cross Series, Part I: Scotland, The Struggle for a Nation is based, was listed as Fiction Bestseller by Christian Book Distributors and 'The Banks of the Boyne', the epic from which The Celtic Cross Series, Part II: Ireland, The Pursuit of Peace is based, hit #3 Best-Selling Fiction.

'Glastonbury' is her best-known book, which received the prestigious First Place, Historical Novel, award from the National Federation of Press Women. Readers and reviewers have raved about 'Glastonbury', calling it "The best of its kind," "richly fascinating," "beautifully researched," "gloriously evocative," and "panoramic." One Amazon reader said, "WHAT a work! Every reader can be enveloped in the sheer scope and quality, every historian be constantly nodding at the precise detail and accuracy, and every Christian can rejoice in the fullness of scripture. For me it is simply beyond descriptive praise. I would urge all who value truth to treat themselves to a feast."

The Celtic Cross is a 2-part series which begins with Scotland: The Struggle for a Nation. In 4 individual epochs it tells the stories of—'The Keeper of the Stone,’ St. Columba; ‘The Forger of a Nation,’ Kenneth MacAlpin; ‘The Refiner of the Realm,’ Queen Margaret; ‘The Vanquishers of Tyranny,’ William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. The 10-book series will complete in the summer of 2022.

The Elizabeth & Richard Mysteries is a literary suspense series using literary figures as background: Rudyard Kipling in 'The Flame Ignites', Dorothy L Sayers in 'The Shadow of Reality', Shakespeare in 'A Midsummer Eve's Nightmare', and Jane Austen in both 'A Jane Austen Encounter' and 'A Most Singular Venture'. Watch for 'A Prodigious Sum of Corpses: Seeking Sanditon at Jane Austen’s Seashore', which will take readers to all of Austen’s favorite seashore resorts. Accounts of Crow’s visits to these sites are available on her blog under the heading “Jane Austen Seashore Tour.”

The Monastery Murders Series features atmospheric contemporary crimes with their roots buried deep in the middle ages. Books in the series include 'A Very Private Grave', 'A Darkly Hidden Truth', 'An Unholy Communion', 'A Newly Crimsoned Reliquary', 'An All-Consuming Fire' and the newly-released 'Against All Fierce Hostility.'

The Daughters of Courage, 'Kathryn', 'Elizabeth' and 'Stephanie' is a pioneer family saga based on the stories of Crow's own family and other Idaho pioneers in the Kuna, Nampa and Boise area. A short story on her blog entitled “A Nostalgic Fourth of July” is based on a scene from ‘Kathryn: Days of Loss and Hope'.

Where There is Love is a 6-book series of the enduring legacy of love and faith all based on historic people and events. The titles are: ‘Where Love Begins’, ‘Where Love Illumines’, ‘Where Love Triumphs’, ‘Where Love Restores’, ‘Where Love Shines’, and ‘Where Love Calls’.

The Lord Danvers Victorian true-crime series is an Amazon bestseller in the British Detectives category. Books in the series include 'A Lethal Spectre', 'A Most Inconvenient Death', 'Grave Matters', 'To Dust You Shall Return' and 'A Tincture of Murder'. Donna provides a no-charge download of 'A Tincture of Murder' for those who sign up for her newsletter. More information is available at her website.

Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein is a best selling author, award-winning Selfie Filmmaker, Zoom Drama Creator, Positive Psychologist and podcaster who helps us overcome anxiety and alienation through multiple media channels

According to an article on the ABC News site titled, 'New study shows rise in kids diagnosed with mental health conditions: What parents should know', our young people are in the midst of a serious mental health crisis. "From 2019 to 2020, researchers found a 21% increase in children with behavior or conduct problems, according to the study."

And that's not all. "I'm deeply concerned as a parent and as a doctor that the obstacles this generation of young people face are unprecedented and uniquely hard to navigate and the impact that's having on their mental health is devastating," U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy said in testimony before senators in February.

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported last year that emergency department visits for suicide attempts among teen girls were up more than 50% at the beginning of the pandemic compared to the same period in 2019."

Bestselling author and film maker Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein is a licensed psychologist in private practice in New Jersey and Massachusetts, with her husband Dr. Russell Holstein, also a psychologist. She specializes in positive psychology as well as other issues associated with girls and women. In her bestselling book, '7 Ways To Help Your Family Recover From The Pandemic', she offers some valuable information regarding how we can take action now:

"On one hand, we could see the pandemic as a catastrophic tragedy, because of the loss of connection with nearly all the things that make up the common teenage experience. On the other hand, there is an opportunity to transform that dreadful experience into something constructive.

"Humor, as old as humankind, is an amazing adjunct to lifting one’s spirits, enduring painful times and realizing how many times humor can lessen the pain around a lost opportunity or a delay that you must endure. Encourage your children to practice humor, collect funny jokes that can be shared, and see the possible pot of gold that will emerge later when something special can happen.

"Sometimes we forget how much kids suffer during hard times. Just because they're young and strong physically, can stay up half the night and laugh hysterically, does not mean that they are immune to the suffering going on around them and around the world because of the coronavirus. In fact, kids are very susceptible to all sorts of emotional upheavals because they're not fully developed emotionally. That takes many, many years. They have reactions that include anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, frustration, disappointment, unhappiness, tears, gloomy feelings and thoughts, and even worse.

"Sadly, the news is now bringing up at least one suicide by a pre-teen youngster. So, it is extremely important for everybody to not only protect the mental health of adults but also of children, tweens, teens and young adults.

Some suggestions:

1. Be your own investigator. Is your child despondent and hanging in his or her room too much? Is he very sour or critical, or do you hear him crying or getting irritated? Is she not eating enough or binging? Listen and watch. Observe any changes that could reflect anxiety or depression or other problems.

2. You are your child’s guardian and protector. Don't be afraid to take charge. Sit down and share with him, perhaps some examples of worries or anxiety or sleeplessness that you may be experiencing. Encourage him to share with you what he is feeling and what is happening in his life. Reassure that we will get to solutions and good news.

3. If your daughter is disappointed because she's not going to a prom, perhaps you and she can still order some clothing online that absolutely delights her. Or maybe she can get all dressed up and the family can have a fancy dinner in her honor.

4.If your child is experiencing a lot of anxiety or other symptoms, it may be time to call his physician. Do not ignore serious symptoms.

5. If you see more serious things going on, make sure you talk to a professional who can direct you with advice and connections. Your child is precious!

6.Try to bring fun and harmony into your family life. This may mean watching funny shows together, laughing as cats and dogs run around in crazy ways on YouTube, or watching comedies. It can also mean feeling free to tell and share family stories that end with humor or a happy ending. Think about reaching out to grandparents to share Zoom meals together, invite cousins that may want to join once a week in a shared dinner, and all sorts of ideas that you pull out of your own hat of creativity. Your desire to make this a growth experience that has some pleasant, enjoyable moments and some serious moments of learning will help your kids adapt and be resilient forever.

As a school psychologist and in her private practice, Dr. Holstein has worked with many children and parents, helping them to develop life skills in decision-making, recognition of their own talents, feel more courageous, and helping both kids and parents develop more successful inter-generational skills. Her last book, ‘Conflict and a Bit of Magic’, helps kids build self-esteem though reading the journal of a girl, identifying with the girl, and understanding they have more courage and resiliency than they thought they had. The book is based on the experiences of the already famous “girl” from 'The Truth, Diary of a Gutsy Tween' and 'Secrets, Diary of a Gutsy Teen', and achieved bestseller status in the multi-generational families category.

Dr. Holstein's cutting-edge presentations, most recently based on the Covid-19 pandemic issues, can be found on both YouTube, Vimeo and on the Roku channel and Amazon Fire TV, titled as 'The Enchanted Self Presents'.

Dr. Holstein recently created The Selfie Showcase, a new project emerging from The Selfie Project, that allows young people to voice their opinions on subjects that matter to young people, including the pandemic. She is now accepting submissions from the public for the "Selfie Showcase" and is actively seeking change-makers and mental health professionals to appear on her video podcasts.

The Selfie Showcase allows kids, teens, and young adults ages 13 to 18 to candidly express their concerns, worries, observations and possible solutions by creating selfie videos or films around important subjects using a smartphone. Dr. Holstein's mission is to help rectify, in several ways, some issues young people face by giving them a chance to engage with others in meaningful ways about the anxiety and stress they must grapple with constantly.

Selected participants may appear on the Selfie Project Channel, available on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3uaOTcYF70z5CpBh11VoUQ. They will also appear in the Selfie Showcase on SelfieFilmmakers.com. They may be invited to be on Holstein's podcast or perhaps be a part of her next film. Full details, rules for submission and helpful hints can be accessed at the Selfie Filmmakers site at http://www.selfiefilmmakers.com/instructions.

Holstein's unique Selfie Films have taken many awards and have been shown in many film festivals and competitions. A full list, now over 100, can be found at Enchantedself.com.

Holstein's podcast series is actively seeking change-makers and visionaries to appear on her podcasts. Dr. Holstein hopes to feature members of traditional media, mental health professionals and educators who can make a real difference in the lives of young people. Many of the podcasts feature young people - to give them a voice regarding their concerns and their solutions. Guests, if accepted, can arrange to appear by contacting Dr. Holstein directly.

Bestselling Author Jack Billups Announces That His Vietnam War Memoir, ‘My Vietnam: A Gift To My Daughter’ Has Attained Bestseller Status

Billups' highly praised book is an utterly unique Vietnam memoir that served to help him reconnect with his daughter.

Jack Billups, author of a one-of-a-kind Vietnam memoir, 'My Vietnam: A Gift To My Daughter', has announced that the ebook version of the book recently attained bestseller status, reaching #1 in Biographies of the Vietnam War. Billups' book is an unusual Vietnam War memoir. It is not just about the time spent on the battlefield. It instead continues the story that culminates many years later in a return trip to those same battlefields - with his adult daughter.

At its core, it is a love story, combined with a dramatic and searing account of the Vietnam War experience. That experience is shared with a family member, in the most intimate way possible.

It is a stunning piece of writing that will likely take its place as one of the best Vietnam memoirs ever written.

Billups' memoir puts the reader into a pair of combat boots, and allows them to see, hear, smell, taste, and touch the Vietnam combat experience in vivid detail. That is but part of the story.

"Hey Dad, please share your Vietnam experiences?" Naomi's request set into motion a journey, 50 years into the past, as a "grunt" in the steamy jungles of Vietnam. Four months later with his memoir completed, Naomi asked, "Dad, let's go to Vietnam, just you and me?" Could the ghosts of Vietnam past morph into a father and daughter blessing in the present?

George C. Colclough, Col. Inf (ret) USAR, former president and CEO of Smith & Wesson, stated in the introduction to the book, "Just another Vietnam War book? Certainly not, Jack takes you down two roads as he embarks on one remarkable journey with his daughter. First, Jack effectively articulates his story in such a way that puts the reader into the boots of a grunt, causing them to feel what he felt, and understand the daunting challenges of those who traveled the Vietnam jungle.

"Secondly, Jack and his daughter continued this remarkable adventure as they traveled back to Vietnam to return to the places where her father had so many vivid experiences. A wonderful story!"

What really sets this bestselling memoir apart is Billups' writing style. There is no pretense; nothing feels forced or contrived, made up or embellished. Billups presents his real-life characters in such a way as to make the reader feel intimately familiar with each of the members of his very young band of brothers, warts and all. Billups tells it exactly as it was.

His style holds through the second part of the book, describing his return to Vietnam and the jaw-dropping changes now evident in modern day Vietnam. One of the highlights of the second part of the book is the reunion, bringing those somewhat innocent young men back together many decades later as mature men. Readers will get a vivid look, from many points of view, at how the Vietnam experience changed the lives of those who lived through that experience.

It is also a compelling memoir that reconciles America and Vietnam, then and now, including the culture shock of seeing Vietnam as it exists today. It offers a heartfelt and heartwarming message to the people of both countries, and a greater understanding of what the old song "Ruby" called "that crazy Asian war."

Readers and reviewers alike have praised 'My Vietnam: A Gift to My Daughter'. It has been called "A beautiful journey to healing," and "A thought-provoking and introspective Vietnam memoir". One reviewer said, "The book was so good, I was sad when I finished it." Another stated, "Jack's memory of his time in Vietnam has been beautifully detailed in his book. Not everyone wants to relive such a terrible page in our American history, but Jack was able to do a remarkable job talking about actual events that he lived through and came back home in one piece to give such a wonderful gift he has given to his daughter."

Another wrote, "The book delivered on my husband's hopes for a healing response to what our Armed Services faced over there. My husband usually can't read much Vietnam War material due to PTSD. He read this in just a few days; it was that good. Our thanks to the author for undertaking this topic and telling his story."

The book will make for an engaging read for veterans, spouses and children of veterans and others who have been impacted in any way by serving in any branch of the military, as the memoir includes the years leading up to, and after his service in Vietnam, including the effects his tour in Vietnam had on his family.

Jack Billups is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at myvietnam1949@gmail.com. 'My Vietnam: A Gift to My Daughter' is available at Amazon in Kindle, paperback and audio formats. More information is available at Billups' website at https://myvietnambook.com.

About Jack Billups:

As a 19-year-old Army volunteer, Sgt. Jack Billups received the Bronze Star with the V attachment. He was awarded the Air Medal, which went to those who participated in combat aerial missions. Assigned to the 1st Air Calvary infantry as a M60 machine gunner, Jack served in the steamy jungles near the Ho Chi Minh trail along the Cambodian border.

Jack grew up during the 1950s and early 1960s in a peaceful Southern California community populated by many senior citizens and dotted with chicken ranches. He is a dependable and talented "everyman" who makes no claim about his service in Vietnam except for being a patriotic American who did "the right thing" as he saw it. He maintained that attitude throughout his life. Asked to talk about his military experience by his daughter, he began writing it out, and ended up exposing 50-year-old forgotten memories and emotions about the jungle war, concluding with a trip back to Vietnam with his daughter.
