How To Relieve Stress - New Book, Invisible Stress By Award-Winning Author Sylvia Lafair: Kindle Version to Be Available at No Charge November 3-5, 2021

Sylvia Lafair is the founder of Creative Energy Options (CEOinc), a global business consulting firm and the world’s leading authority in Pattern Breakthrough Leadership Development, a Top Global Leadership Guru, and award-winning author

Stress management is a concern for all of us today, especially during the Holidays. Holiday stress is but one form of stress however. There are many forms and not all of them are to be avoided. Regardless of the type of stress experienced, the effects of negative stress can be mild for some, devastating for others. Stress impacts everyone regardless of age, status, gender, or race.

Naturally, there are negative stress treatment approaches of every kind - Medical treatments include medications and specific stress treatment programs. In contrast, therapeutic approaches include individual therapy, group therapy, and hypnosis, and many others. Self-help strategies include changing diet, exercise, supplementation, and a host of other protocols.

However, all the stress management programs available today have been developed to reduce the levels of stress you experience. You first become aware of stress and you then seek treatment. But what if you are not aware of it in the first place?

Invisible stress. Surprisingly, there is a level of stress that can remain hidden. It is this form of stress that award-winning author Sylvia Lafair, Ph.D. brings to light in 'Invisible Stress (It's NOT what YOU Think!): Identify and Change the Patterns and Behaviors Controlling Your Life'. She believes we should learn how to "Practice Safe Stress."

“When stress hits the hot button, you have a choice,” Lafair stated. “Many shout out upset while others would rather stuff it down. This fourth level beyond eustress, acute stress, or chronic stress causes difficulties in health and relationships at work and home. Stress can make you sick, so why not get it before it gets you? I wrote this book as a survival guide to tackle stress and feel confident throughout your day.”

The Kindle version of 'Invisible Stress' will be available at no charge at Amazon November 3 through November 5, 2021 at https://www.amazon.com/Invisible-Stress-Its-What-Think-ebook/dp/B09HXJRZ8T/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1635107014&sr=1-1.

Readers and reviewers alike have praised 'Invisible Stress.' Andy Heppelle, Chief magic maker, accelerating sustainability, Capgemini said ‘New possibilities unleash when you are aware of the real cause of stress underneath the obvious.” Brenda Thompson, executive director, Gadsden, Schneider, and Woodward, LLP comments, 'It is an essential part of the role of human resources to guide people to gain the clarity this book gives about how to handle stress.’ Mark Baylis, Founder of Valor Clinic, US Army Special Forces (Retired), said it ". . . should be required reading for the military." Joanne LaMarca Mathisen, former network producer NBC Today, New York, said, “Invisible stress followed me around for decades. Once I understood it was always with me, and I carried it around like two dumbbells on my shoulders, I learned to make the right changes. I’m calmer now, and even better, more energetic.”

Author Sylvia Lafair is the CEO of Creative Energy Options Inc. (CEOinc), a firm that challenges the status quo of workplace relationships. A pioneer in leadership education and executive coaching her work has been transformational for individuals, teams, and entire organizations.

Over the past 30 years, she has searched for hidden emotional mechanisms at work in a typical office environment. The desire was to discover why people respond the way they do underneath traditional communication skills. This overlooked miscommunication is at the core of office politics, absenteeism, lawsuits, and poor productivity. This knowledge leads to meaningful changes for individuals and companies. The company's Pattern Breakthrough process, not found in any other coaching or programs, enables them to prepare clients to transcend business frustrations to heightened productivity. The company continues to win awards for Pattern Breakthrough Coaching and Total Leadership Connections.

Author's Revelation Of Shocking Religious Cult Secrets Spark Hardcover Release Of Privileged Secrets Book One

Seeds of Eden is the first in the Privileged Secrets Trilogy.

Author Harper Woods, with personal courage and razor-sharp insight, delved into dark secrets behind the sealed doors of a cult to write her first book, Seeds of Eden, book one of her Privileged Secrets trilogy.

Requested by Barnes & Noble, indie bookstores, and libraries, the soaring success of the book’s release as ebook, softcover, and audio, have now inspired the new hardcover edition. The book has achieved critical acclaim and extensive press coverage.

Though fictionalized, her book — based on both personal experience and extensive research — reveals practices that would shatter the foundation of beliefs for millions of followers. The edge-of-your- seat thriller both engrosses and educates, as it weaves a tale of national significance and international intrigue.

In this first novel—a fascinating blend of modern suspense and historical fantasy— Woods takes us back to the dawn of time, introducing readers to Erica Pfeiffer, an undercover agent for a centuries-old resistance organization whose mission is to expose evil forces and corruption. Each additional character, both allies and enemies, are richly drawn, sometimes sympathetic, sometimes terrifying.

Harper’s publishers are offering the new hardcover edition of Seeds of Eden at a special price in honor of its release November 1 in honor of National Authors’ st Day. The author also offers clues and insights through her thoughtfully crafted social media posts.

Now on Audible: The professionally produced Audible Seeds of Eden Audio Book, with its multiply-accented characters performed by noted Audible narrator Celeste DePuy, and produced by Haven Books Audio.

When asked her reasons for writing such a controversial book that unearthed painful childhood memories, the author explained, “When I felt I had done enough healing and recovery from leaving the religion, and I could look at my past without it triggering emotions any more—that’s when I knew it was time to write. The inspiration came literally streaming into my consciousness so fast that I could hardly write it down fast enough.”

Best Selling Author Donna Fletcher Crow Announces New Article Series, Writers In France, Then And Now

Crow writes meticulously researched, entertaining novels of romance, history, adventure and mystery in an engaging you-are-there style that allows readers to live the history. Reviewers have compared her work with PD James, Dan Brown and Barbara Pym. The new series is available at her website in “The Authorized Version” section.

This summer a brief let-up in the Covid restrictions allowed novelist Donna Fletcher Crow and her daughter-in-law food writer Kelly Crow to spend two weeks in France and Switzerland. Their pretext for this bold venture was the need to chaperone Donna’s granddaughter Jane from her summer ballet program at the Princess Grace Academy in Monaco back to her school in Basel, Switzerland.

In truth, they spent the time deep in research on their favorite topics: literature and food. They visited the sites known to many of Donna’s favorite authors such as Somerset Maugham, Agatha Christie and Alexander Dumas. Kelly explored Auguste Escoffier’s connections to the Riviera, and sought out the best in markets, street food, and Michelin-starred restaurants.

Crow’s copiously illustrated articles in this series will transport visitors to these sites and allow readers to share the two women’s extraordinary experience:

Have tea at the Welcome Hotel in Ville-Franche-sur-Mer with Somerset Maugham and Jean Cocteau and enjoy Maugham’s delightful short story “The Three Fat Women of Antibes.”

Sail to Saint-Tropez and visit the Isle of Sainte-Margurite where the Man in the Iron Mask, later used in a novel by Alexandre Dumas, was imprisoned for 34 years.

Visit Auguste Escoffier’s home in Monaco, next door to the Princess Grace Academy of Classic Dance and learn how he single-handedly transformed French cuisine through his cooking and his writing.

Enjoy the sumptuous and historic Hotel Negresco in Nice with Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot as he strives to solve ‘The Mystery of the Blue Train’.

Then on to Paris to encounter the luxurious Blue Train with Mr. Bean, Agatha Christie, Raymond Chandler, and Georges Simeon.

Crow said, “In these challenging times when travel is so difficult, if not impossible for many, I was extremely fortunate to have this brief respite and I am delighted to offer a bit of an escape to my readers. I hope an armchair adventure might inspire people so look forward to brighter times ahead and maybe even start planning their own travels.”

The articles are available in “The Authorized Version” section at her website at https://donnafletchercrow.com.

In addition, Crow recently announced the release of Part I of the Celtic Cross series, The Struggle for a Nation. The Celtic Cross series is a sweeping saga of the story of Scotland. The four books in the series are adapted from her best-selling epic historical fiction novel, 'The Fields of Bannockburn' which was named Best Historical Novel 1996 by the American Federation of Press Women. The four books (or Epochs) in the series are:

Epoch 1 'The Keeper of the Stone, Of Saints and Chieftains'

Epoch 2 'The Forger of a Nation, Of Kings and Kingdoms'

Epoch 3 'The Refiner of the Realm, Of Queens and Clerics'

Epoch 4 'The Vanquishers of Tyranny, Of Priests and Patriots'

Crow said, “I am so excited to be able to share the accomplishments of these amazing historical characters with a new generation of readers. The epic novels from which I have adapted each of the individual epochs of The Celtic Cross series have been out of print for almost a quarter of a century and never available in ebook. Now these all-new editions will be readily available worldwide.”

Donna Fletcher Crow is the author of 50 books, mostly novels of British history. She has taken a number of high-level industry awards for her work. Many of her books have been bestsellers in their categories, including 'A Most Inconvenient Death', which achieved #1 bestseller status in Christian Suspense. 'The Fields of Bannockburn', the epic from which The Celtic Cross Series, Part I: Scotland, The Struggle for a Nation is based, was listed as Fiction Bestseller by Christian Book Distributors and 'The Banks of the Boyne', the epic from which The Celtic Cross Series, Part II: Ireland, The Pursuit of Peace is based, hit #3 Best-Selling Fiction.

'Glastonbury' is her best-known book, which received the prestigious First Place, Historical Novel, award from the National Federation of Press Women. Readers and reviewers have raved about 'Glastonbury', calling it "The best of its kind," "richly fascinating," "beautifully researched," "gloriously evocative," and "panoramic." One Amazon reader said, "WHAT a work! Every reader can be enveloped in the sheer scope and quality, every historian be constantly nodding at the precise detail and accuracy, and every Christian can rejoice in the fullness of scripture. For me it is simply beyond descriptive praise. I would urge all who value truth to treat themselves to a feast."

The Celtic Cross is a 2-part series which begins with Scotland: The Struggle for a Nation. In 4 individual epochs it tells the stories of—'The Keeper of the Stone,’ St. Columba; ‘The Forger of a Nation,’ Kenneth MacAlpin; ‘The Refiner of the Realm,’ Queen Margaret; ‘The Vanquishers of Tyranny,’ William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. Watch for all 6 epochs of Part II, Ireland, The Pursuit of Peace, coming early 2022.

The Elizabeth & Richard Mysteries is a literary suspense series using literary figures as background: Rudyard Kipling in 'The Flame Ignites', Dorothy L Sayers in 'The Shadow of Reality', Shakespeare in 'A Midsummer Eve's Nightmare', and Jane Austen in both 'A Jane Austen Encounter' and 'A Most Singular Venture'. Watch for 'A Prodigious Sum of Corpses: Seeking Sanditon at Jane Austen’s Seashore', which will take readers to all of Austen’s favorite seashore resorts. Accounts of Crow’s visits to these sites are available on her blog under the heading “Jane Austen Seashore Tour.”

The Monastery Murders Series features atmospheric contemporary crimes with their roots buried deep in the middle ages. Books in the series include 'A Very Private Grave', 'A Darkly Hidden Truth', 'An Unholy Communion', 'A Newly Crimsoned Reliquary', 'An All-Consuming Fire' and the newly-released 'Against All Fierce Hostility.'

The Daughters of Courage, 'Kathryn', 'Elizabeth' and 'Stephanie' is a pioneer family saga based on the stories of Crow's own family and other Idaho pioneers in the Kuna, Nampa and Boise area. A short story on her blog entitled “A Nostalgic Fourth of July” is based on a scene from ‘Kathryn: Days of Loss and Hope'.

Where There is Love is a 6-book series of the enduring legacy of love and faith all based on historic people and events. The titles are: ‘Where Love Begins’, ‘Where Love Illumines’, ‘Where Love Triumphs’, ‘Where Love Restores’, ‘Where Love Shines’, and ‘Where Love Calls’.

The Lord Danvers Victorian true-crime series is an Amazon bestseller in the British Detectives category. Books in the series include 'A Lethal Spectre', 'A Most Inconvenient Death', 'Grave Matters', 'To Dust You Shall Return' and 'A Tincture of Murder'. Alcohol And Drug Addiction: Best Selling Author Harriet Hunter Details 12 Ways To Express Positive Control When Angry

Hunter's award-winning book, Miracles of Recovery, became the first-place recipient of the coveted President’s Award in nonfiction from the Florida Authors and Publishers Association. Miracles features 365 powerful daily inspirations from a holistic view of recovery.

While it is important for all of us to learn how to control our anger, it is even more important for the alcoholic or drug addict. Harriet Hunter, award-winning bestselling author of Miracles of Recovery: Daily Meditations of Hope, Courage and Faith.” recently posted a piece in which she offered 12 ways to express positive control when angry. While directed specifically at those in or on the way to recovery, the piece offers rock-solid advice that can be used by anyone. That piece of Harriet’s story reads in part:

“I grew up an angry child. The older I became, the more resentful I was with everyone. I trusted no one. Absorbing the hate of those around me, I became a hateful, self-destructive victim. Without tools to cope with frustration and anger, except for drugs and alcohol, I descended into hopelessness. Addictions suppressed my anger as it festered and grew stronger. I didn’t want to feel; I wanted to escape everyone, including me. My drugs of choice did that for me.

Anger was A Nasty Getting Even Response, and I had it down to perfection. After years of hatred, eating anger’s poison and hoping others would die, anger told me, “I’ll show you, I’ll kill me!” Recovery came not one minute too soon.”

“You will not be punished for your anger; you will be punished by your anger.”—Buddha

“For as long as we blame everyone else, do we stay a prisoner to our misery, convinced that anger is the only way we can get attention or sympathy. We stay the victim with self-imposed rights to remain that way. Working with professionals and loving sponsors helps us to accept responsibility for the harms we’ve done to others. We found that as soon as we let go of selfish, self-centered anger, that these emotions hurt no one as much as it hurt us. As others walked away, we were the ones who hung on to the power and excitement of anger’s poison fueled by our disease of addiction.”

How Important Is Anger?

When we ask, “How important is anger?” we remind ourselves that our hard- fought serenity and peace must be non-negotiable, without exception. Anger must go. We promptly admit when we are in the wrong and make amends to correct the situation. After all, this is our program, no one else’s.

What recourse do we have? Here we learn to Live and Let Live. We must, because the alcoholic/addict in or out of active addiction or without a program is like a lion chasing its prey. Anger becomes focused and relentless, out of control insane; and, if not checked, we can and often do, hurt others physically or emotionally through our words.

With practice, we learn to pause when agitated or doubtful and remember that This Too, Shall Pass. These actions, together with constant contact with our Higher Power, help to ensure the distance necessary to dissipate our anger, and the poisonous damage it causes us and others.

How Can We Get Rid of Anger?

1. Give Yourself a Break. Why should we allow others to zap what precious energy we have and live rent free in our heads? Just STOP. Get up, take a walk and choose gratitude instead.

2. Stop Talking About it! To yourself or to anyone else. All we do is give away our power and make the incident/event bigger than it really is. Instead, make what is positive in your life larger.

3. Pause: Our AA literature reminds us to, “Pause when agitated or doubtful.” When we’re agitated or doubtful, chances are we’re also in fear: fear of not being accepted, fear of being rejected, fear of someone getting something we think belongs to us, and so on.

4. Practice Gratitude: Part of learning the lesson to let go of negativity begins with our ability, in the worst of times, to find the light of gratitude instead of anger. Focused positivity makes gratitude bigger, more important than our disappointments and anger. When we focus and bring forth positivity, we see the strength in our own resolve and how much self-control we own as we look to come out the other side of a dark situation. Practice makes progress. This example reduces the impact and severity of our defects and personal disappointments because we’ve made the necessary shift: a conscious decision to seek the light and power of our determined resolve. In so doing, we rise to the challenge of peace, instead of the rabbit hole of negativity.

5. Journal FEAR: There are lots of reasons people don’t like to journal. One reason is we feel afraid of what we will see. To journal fear (False Evidence Appearing Real) is to risk laying open a path to our deepest selves. This is the best route to ask hard questions. When we begin this fact-finding mission, the likelihood is that our new truths will set us free. There exists, as we journal, a comfort we can accept a middle ground surrounding angry situations when we ask ourselves a few questions:

• What is it about this situation that makes me angry?
• What would make it different?
• What have I contributed to encourage this end result?
• How have I encouraged my own anger?
• Instead of reveling in the knee-jerk reaction of anger, how can I choose a position that is most
beneficial and comforting to me?

Is the specific situation of anger and all of its parts TRUE, or is it FALSE. If false, what hasn’t happened yet? (This is False Evidence Appearing Real!) We may assume, imagine, or contrive someone has it out for us, but has it happened in fact? These questions help us to let go of what is not our reality.

The more questions we ask, the easier it is to see the big picture and the truth of what led up to the outcome of anger. Ask, “Do I want to be happy or do I want to be right?” This, for many, is the turning point to move away from angry to compromising. In order to be right, our anger must first morph itself into self-righteous indignation. With self-righteous indignation is the false-belief that others deserve more negative consequences. It is in this obsessed thinking that rage manifests itself by crossing the invisible line to indiscriminate aggression.

6. STOP Playing the Victim: We fall victims when we internalize delusional fear and visualize taking on dangerous even paranoid outcomes. We remember that if we are in active addition to begin with, our thinking is delusional, over-exaggerated and walking on the edge of insanity!

7. “How Important Is it?” (really…) If your child’s bedroom is a mess and you become angry close the door. If you don’t like the way your husband or wife does something, do it yourself. Ask the question, “Is this something that will matter 24 hours from now?” Most of the time, nothing brings itself to the level of urgency of now.

8. Do Something Different: Give that anger something to do: take a walk, exercise, sit down, eyes closed and pray and meditate for five minutes. DO some THING that points you to a place of easy breathing and positive change for you.

9. Get Creative: If you have a mere 24 hours to live, make a list of events you would like to be a part of and do them.

10. Create a Special Mantra Just for you that speaks to the essence of who you want to be in the moment. “I deserve to focus on my serenity and nothing else matters,” will give you an idea, but only you know what will move you. Write this mantra ten times and if it doesn’t feel comfortable, find another and then keep it in your pocket. Not only will it help remind you that, “This too, shall pass,” it becomes your own personal guide of assurance.

11. Express your anger: It’s OK to say how you feel, as long as you handle it in the right way. We all get angry because it’s a part of our being human. The difference becomes, what it is we DO with that anger. Ask a trusted friend to help you find a calm resolution. Outbursts solve no problems, but mature dialogue can help reduce stress and ease the threat of anger. It may also prevent future problems.

12. Give yourself space and time to gain distance from the event that caused the anger. Time may not heal all wounds, however, if you have tried all the above, and ideas of your own, allow only 48-hours to feel as angry as the moments you were first engaged. After 48 hours, consider help in either letting it go or seek help from a mental health professional. We’re remembering our goal is to be rid of anger.

While there are many treatment approaches and programs, what is common to all successful individuals within a substance abuse program is the shared pain and the loneliness, oftentimes with an ongoing support system for the person battling the disease. That support system is what Harriet Hunter offers in “Miracles of Recovery: Daily Meditations of Hope, Courage and Faith.”

Featuring 365-daily inspirations. Miracles of Recovery was written not just for those addicted, but for the parents, the spouses - anyone touched by the disease because addiction is absolutely a family affair. Using the foundation of 12-Step Recovery, Miracles of Recovery embraces holistic suggestions as a practical approach for those who must face life on life's terms, clean and sober. Encouraging and thought-provoking, Miracles of Recovery inspires with Universal Truths, “because,” Harriet says, “Once we know better, we do better.”

Miracles of Recovery is written to show through personal examples how to achieve long-term sobriety by embracing new behavior and positive reinforcement, regardless of what happens in one's life. She offers a personal, sometimes raw reflection of the truth about addiction seldom seen elsewhere.

Tools necessary to maintain sobriety and change one's life through changing one’s perspective are also proposed. It suggests that readers "Do life differently," through exercises, solutions, and methods to improve self-esteem, confidence, and embrace a profound sense of hope needed to succeed. The author spurs the reader to embrace the belief that, regardless of challenges life presents, “NOTHING can change the course of recovery when you keep yourself, your sobriety, and your Higher Power first in your lives.” In short, Miracles of Recovery offers hope where there is none through a simple program of actions for complicated people.

Hunter has received rave reviews for her work from readers and reviewers alike. Vernita Taylor of Readers Favorite stated, “Miracles of Recovery: Daily Meditations of Hope, Courage, and Faith by Harriet Hunter is a great choice if you’re struggling with addiction because it offers a full year of inspiration and affirmations which I enjoyed. I see this book as a mentor or sponsor that is walking by your side and helping to lead you to a better, more improved you while teaching you how to deal with your stressors. The best teacher is someone who has been there and done that, and this book doesn’t disappoint. The author knows first-hand what it takes and how it feels to be addicted, and the journey to recovery. If you need help along your journey, pick up a copy of this book; it’s highly recommended.”

Anthony Capozzolli of Dismantled Life Podcast said, “Miracles of Recovery has been a feast for my recovering soul. Every page is filled with love and helpful insights that lead to discovery. I read each page by date and randomly turn to other pages for an additional spiritual hug when I need one. It’s almost as if Harriet wrote her wonderful book for me. Page after page hits so close to home I often tear up from positive awareness and clarity of emotion.”

Miracles of Recovery received the first place President’s Award in nonfiction from the Florida Authors and Publishers Association.

Since her walk into recovery in 1999, Harriet has had one primary purpose: to show others how they can achieve their miracles while staying sober with a vision and determination to never go backwards, one day at a time.

Using her experience strength and hope, Harriet strives to be a conduit of encouragement to others in their disease of alcoholism and drugs of choice, by showing them what continues to work. With practical tools, principles and promises as found in A.A., and other 12-step programs, she mirrors examples of how anyone can be free from the bondage of self, regardless of their situation.

Assisted Living: What You Need To Know Before You Make A Decision - Can Assisted Living Offer An Escape From The World Asks Frances Fuller, Award Winning Author Of 'Helping Yourself Grow Old'

Best selling author Frances Fuller offers a unique outlook on aging based on her own experience. Her insights are penetrating and deal with issues that many seniors and their families are concerned about. She offers an insider's view of assisted living.

At times, we all want to hide from the world, stick our heads in the proverbial sand and just take a break from the mayhem and chaos of the world in which we live. This is especially true as one ages, as years of dealing with the simple, everyday challenges and stressors of modern life seem to accumulate rather than simply pass. It is no small wonder that some of us can see a move to assisted living as somewhat of an escape from the world

Frances Fuller, award-winning author Of 'Helping Yourself Grow Old', recently addressed this issue in a piece posted on her site. In that piece she described how the move to assisted living has impacted her view of the world:

Should residing in an assisted living/ retirement home enable me to escape the chaos of the world?

This may not be a question that anyone is saying aloud, but one that voices a secret hope, a need that has grown out of our weariness. A tough week caused me to wonder.

Fires in California, the withdrawal from Afghanistan, a new Covid crisis, the hurricane hurtling toward New Orleans---all these were happening at once. They came to us on our televisions and in the headlines of the papers delivered every morning. And I always have my computer.

Barely awake, I take a pill to prepare my sensitive digestive system for whatever else I plan to swallow, and then I sit down with this little window to the world. I need to wait half an hour before even drinking coffee, and I need to distract myself from the need for caffeine. These needs fit conveniently with my concern for the world’s distress.

I could use the time to make my bed. I could dress, I could read something uplifting, but instead I compulsively ask Google for an update on the fire burning near my old home area of California. I read every word I can find; I study the evacuation maps; I visualize every familiar spot. I practically smell the smoke again.

I remember the tension, the emergency bag in the trunk of my car for months of the year, the numbers to call if I needed information (where this smoke was coming from, which roads were open,) the list of things to grab if I had time.

And remembering reminds me of the reasons I am here and not alone in a 4000-foot house in a semi-rural community in a high fire hazard area. Again I see that it was not a good place for a ninety-year-old woman, alone, with an injured back. I am assured that I have made a good decision.

I almost escape from this news update before there is another: a red flag warning across the whole Northern Sierra for the next two days; low humidity and high winds, conditions perfect for spread of the fire and the eruption of new spots.

A shift in the direction the air moves could take the flames toward a little city I know well and the homes of family and friends. While the fire is their problem, it is also my problem, in spite of anything I tell myself.

The news reminds me that the house I sold is still vulnerable, a fact which is not supposed to be my problem. The house is not my house, I know. I have documents to prove this, but it seems that the message has lodged in my head without managing to reach the place where I treasure things. I discover that I want the house we built to be treated kindly by the elements. I want the strangers who live in the house to be happy and secure.

And I realize that moving myself into a home for the elderly has freed me from the immediate danger and stress of these fires, but it has not shielded me from the morning news, the necessity of caring or the impulse to pray.

And so it goes.

I am compelled to see images of New Orleans, lashed by wind and rain, ocean water gushing into homes. Half of my relatives are from South Louisiana, and I went there every summer when I was a child. I remember the taste of cornbread baked in a wood-burning stove and my Grandma’s jambalaya that included some little animal my uncle killed in the woods. I see Gonzales on CNN’s map, an obscure town I think nobody else ever heard of, where my mother grew up and my parents are buried.

Then there is the crisis in Afghanistan that belongs to all of us, but I have memories even there, of strong, slender people, the man who humored me with samples in the spice market and laughed when one of them burned my tongue, the beautiful little church that seemed to be a miracle, and from a village bakery the best bread I ever ate. But later the news: a new government, the terror of dissenters, and an order to tear down the lovely church, stone by stone. Not since then have travelers stopped off in Kabul just from curiosity.

How strange it seems now, the chain of world events: The World Trade Center coming down, a great crime committed by 19 men, none of them Afghans, leading to America’s longest war, and now desperate Afghans clamoring to leave with their invaders. I consider the tragedy of this, the sorrow of people becoming enemies in the place where they were born.

All of these events, these questions invade the peace of this secure place. We aging folks talk about them over the dining table, along with fussing a little about the shortage of staff here. For complicated reasons the pandemic has made it harder to get and keep nurses and waiters and cleaning folks.

But here I also discover those who are protected from news of the world.

The full piece is available at her site at http://www.francesfullerauthor.com.

There are many great books on aging available. However, many of them were written from an academic point of view. Most are penned by sociologists, doctors, gerontologists, even the CEO of AARP, and one by a Catholic nun, Joan Chittister. Chittister's book, 'The Gift of Years' is beautifully written, focusing on spiritual values and finding meaning in life. Chittister admits in the preface that she was only 70, which is the front edge of aging, and her book is somewhat abstract.

Atul Gawande’s book, 'On Being Mortal', relates medicine and old age, It enjoys high Amazon rankings, in the category of “the sociology of aging.” It contains a great deal of valuable scientific information and shows understanding of the physical and emotional needs of the elderly.

Frances Fuller’s book, 'Helping Yourself Grow Old, Things I Said To Myself When I Was Almost Ninety', is an up-close and very personal encounter with aging. It is an uncontrived and firsthand look at her own daily experiences: wrestling with physical limitations, grief, loneliness, fears, and the decisions she has made about how to cope with these and keep becoming a better person. She faces regrets and the need to forgive herself and others and is determined to live in a way that blesses her children and grandchildren.

Frances deals with many common, universal but sometimes private issues in an open, conversational tone. Her confessions and decisions invite self-searching and discussion. She tries to make sense of her own past and to understand her responsibility to younger generations. In the process she shares her daily life, enriched with memories from her fascinating experiences. Her stories and her voice — fresh, honest, irresistible — keep the reader eager for more. The end result is a book that helps create a detailed map through the challenging terrain of old age.

The result of this intimate narrative is that readers laugh, cry and identify with her mistakes and problems. Reviewers have called the book, “unique,” “honest,” “witty,” “poignant,” “challenging” and “life-changing.”

For these reasons it is a book unlike any other book on aging you will ever read. The book can serve as a primer on what lies in store for all of us, from someone who is working through many of these issues. While the book is a perfect fit for book clubs, there are many other individuals and groups who could benefit from the information and ideas in the book:

Those approaching retirement
People who are currently retired
Children of aging parents
Those who have lost a spouse
Retirement community discussion groups
Counselors
Educators
Life coaches
Church groups (men and women)

and a host of others. For group discussions, Fuller has made a set of discussion questions available at her website at http://www.FrancesFullerAuthor.com.

Readers have lavished praise on the new book. One Amazon review stated, "I find myself thinking,'I need to read this again and take notes!' It’s full of wisdom, humor, and grace. I also have committed to rereading it annually - it’s that important!" Another said, "There is valuable life experience in this book. Helping Yourself Grow Old is truly is a book for all ages, and one not to be missed." Another stated, "Beautifully written book telling timeless truths, for both the old and the young. Highly recommend this book for anyone who loves to laugh, cry, and learn wisdom from someone who has lived so much life."

Frances' prior work, 'In Borrowed Houses', has taken three industry awards and has achieved Bestseller status. Frances Fuller was the Grand Prize winner in the 2015 '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' Book Awards. It received the bronze medal for memoir in the Illumination Book Awards in 2014. Northern California Publishers and Authors annually gives awards for literature produced by residents of the area. In 2015 'In Borrowed Houses' received two prizes: Best Non-fiction and Best Cover.

Critics have also praised ‘In Borrowed Houses.’ A judge in the 22nd Annual Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Awards called 'In Borrowed Houses' “ . . a well written book full of compassion . . . a captivating story . . . ”. Another reviewer described the book as “Wise, honest, sensitive, funny, heart-wrenching . . .”. Colin Chapman, lecturer in Islamic Studies at the Near East School of Theology in Beirut said, “ . . . western Christians and Middle Eastern Christians need to read this story…full of remarkable perceptiveness and genuine hope.”

Frances has shared stories about her life in an interview with Women Over 70, and a recording is available on their Facebook page.

The Near Death Experience - Bestselling Author Bernard Fleury Announces Bestseller Status For His Award-Winning Book, Near-Death Experience: Out of the Darkness into the Light

Fleury's highly praised book is Book 4 of 5 in the 'Called Into Life By The Light' series of print books, e-books and audio books.

In his award-winning bestseller, ‘Near-death Experience: Out of the Darkness Into The Light’, bestselling author Bernard Fleury presents a penetrating look into the near death experience that is unlike any other book about NDE’s available today. Readers will learn what really happens in the profound near-death experience.

What if we could find peace of mind in the face of inevitable death? What if we could gain assurance that a world of light and a Being of Light awaits us when we die?

'Near-Death Experience: Out of the Darkness into the Light', details what happens to people who have had a profound near-death experience. It presents a comprehensive overview of this experience as reported in several major studies.

Research findings include information from Raymond Moody, MD; Melvin Morse, MD; Pim Van Lommel, MD; Kenneth Ring, PhD; and Bruce Greyson, MD; J. Steve Millerand P.M.H. Atwater. Fleury personally interviewed 3 persons who claimed they had an experience of light during their N-D Experience. The book is available in Kindle and audiobook editions at Amazon.

"Until October 2, 2015 my study of Near-Death Experiences in search of the Light was primarily on the research of Raymond Moody M.D., Melvin Morse M.D., Pim Van Lommel M.D., Kenneth Ring Ph.D., and Bruce Greyson M.D., who developed a list of nine stages of the Near-Death Experience," Fleury stated. "That list plus Eadie’s Twelve Stages/Points in her personal near-death experience was the focus of my search for the light in the near-death experience.

"Then I came across J. Steve Miller’s website www.character-education.info. I saw his book Near-Death Experiences As Evidence For The Existence Of God And Heaven. His presentation of Dr. Pim van Lommel’s in a Dutch Hospital is included in this e-book.

"During the same search to update my Near-Death information I found a researcher I was totally unacquainted with, P.M.H. Atwater who had been actively engaged in Near Death research since 1978.

"She used an interview technique based on police investigations learned from her father. There are 3,000 adult experiencers and 277 child experiencers in her research base. Read Chapter Two of her 2011 Near-Death Experiences the rest of the story for the details. She discovered four distinctive patterns of the Near-Death Experience. These are presented in this e-book."

Nearly all of Bernard's books center squarely on the theme of Light as a Someone and a Something. He believes we are all Called Into Life By The Light. Life and Light are tied together. Lifelight describes their relationship best because both our “without” (our physical being) and our “within” (our spirit) are basically light in two different forms:

1. Physical energy that occupies space, has weight, can be measured, and

2. Psychic or spiritual energy which is a force that causes things to happen and, thus, real energy, but it does not occupy space, have weight, nor can it be empirically measured.

Bernard was chosen as one of ‘50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading’ in the 2017 Book Awards. His honor came as a result of his appearance on The Authors Show. He was chosen from a field of hundreds of authors through a public voting process.

Bernard Fleury is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below, or by email at bernlida@comcast.net. His books are available at online retail book outlets. More information is available at his website at http://www.intolifebylight.com.

15 Ways To Find Joy Even In The Midst Of The Pandemic Offered By Louise Pistole, Best-selling Author Of 'Discover Your Joy'

Pistole is a best-selling author, blogger, coach and motivational speaker who describes herself as a "joy-fanatic".

The national news has been so negative for so long, we can begin to wonder if things will ever return to normal. Headline after grim headline, story after unpleasant story, the media hits us over and over again with messages about the pandemic that are depressing, pessimistic and filled with doom and gloom scenarios for the future.

While the effects of the pandemic have been catastrophic on a national scale, it is on a personal level where we can consciously choose to take another path; a path that is very different. We do not have to wait for the pandemic to be over to return to a state of equilibrium. We can instead find joy in the very midst of adversity, if we consciously choose to do so. Best-selling author Louise Pistole recently offered 15 tips to find joy in our lives, regardless of any external event:

"While reading a C|Net article titled, 'COVID-19 pandemic causes devastating drop in global life expectancy, study finds,' I was struck with sadness. So, not only is the pandemic claiming lives every day, but those who survive now likely have a shorter life span.

"The article goes on to state, “In July, the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics also reported that life expectancy in the US fell by 1.5 years in 2020. That's the biggest drop since World War II, according to NPR.”

"The closing comment in this article said, “As of last week, the COVID-19 pandemic had killed as many Americans as the Spanish flu in 1918 -- about 1 in 500 Americans. Unvaccinated people have accounted for more than 97% of hospitalizations and deaths.”

"What does this information mean to us? Do we read it and just continue to go on with our lives? Or do we stop to consider the impact it could have on our lives?

"Personally, I am alarmed to see how many people have died from the pandemic. I am confused by the varying opinions of whether to get vaccinated or not. And, I am saddened that our life spans are potentially shortened.

"After giving some thought to this article, here are my tips and ideas for dealing with the pandemic, shortened life spans, and everything else around this topic.

Tip #1 - The one thing we all can do today is to treat others with KINDNESS. Not everyone will have the same opinion that we do and that’s ok. Use kindness to offer others hope and encouragement instead of attacking those who may think differently.

Tip #2 – Don’t stress over everything in the news. I believe we need information and knowledge in order to make intelligent decisions. But worrying over the news headlines causes stress, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, and a host of other medical issues.

Tip #3 – Relationships are important in our quest to deal with the pandemic. Reach out to family and friends regularly and let them know they are important. Take time to chat with neighbors. Phone a friend for sharing and support. Check on the older members of the family or those who live alone.

Tip #4 – Make every day count by doing the things you love. Have breakfast in bed. Buy fresh flowers for the table. Learn to make an exotic meal. Read about far away places to visit. Laugh out loud. Take a road trip. And, always sing in the shower.

Tip #5 – Enjoying nature is one of my personal favorites. Take a walk to watch the squirrels play, listen to the birds sing, and smell the flowers. Sit on a bench for a while to enjoy the sunshine. Being out in nature is sure to bring peace and calm to our lives. By putting the phone aside and being fully present outdoors, we return to our day refreshed and re-energized.

Tip #6 – Being grateful for everything we have brings more things to be grateful for into our lives. Make it a daily habit to say ‘thank you’ several times during the day and name a few blessings. Amplify gratitude by saying it out loud or writing it down. There’s always something to be thankful for. And, remember to say grace at mealtime.

Tip #7 – Forgive anyone who may have wronged you. Forgiveness is often difficult to do, but is definitely a powerful source for freeing our minds and hearts of the turmoil. Sometimes we also need to forgive ourselves. Believe you are doing the best you can at the time.

Tip #8 – Look for the positive in people and situations. Don’t get caught in a downward spiral of negativity. Instead, rise above it by spending time with positive minded people. Focus on the good things in life. This one tip will keep our spirits high which releases all the good hormones into our bodies.

Tip #9 – Prioritize health by consuming a healthy diet and drinking lots of water. I know these are good habits that we all need, but I am one of the worst about eating anything green and drinking enough water. I battle it every day. I’ll try to be proactive and do better in an effort to inspire others to follow likewise.

Tip #10 – Take time for yoga or meditation. Both of these activities have a way to calm the chatter and turmoil in our brains. Even doing one of these activities for short periods of time on a regular basis will calm the mind and body. The quietness will nurture the soul.

Tip #11 – The benefits of regular exercise are amazing. Along with burning calories, exercise also strengthens our bodies, increases flexibility, and keeps our hearts humming along. Exercise is one thing most of us dread adding to our schedules. But it is one way to add back those extra years to our lives.

Tip #12 – Another personal favorite of mine is journaling. By writing down thoughts and feelings regularly and releasing them to paper, we clear the pathways in our minds and hearts. Over time, themes or patterns emerge from our writing which can lead us to ideas, inspiration, or ah-ha moments.

Tip #13 – The one tip above all is to serve others and serve them with love and kindness. Our mission here on Planet Earth is to care for our fellow mankind. The list of ways to serve is truly endless. We can do many things from working in a soup kitchen to checking on a sick friend. Find the service that fits your interest or skills. Then go out into the world and serve.

Tip #14 – We all deserve and need time for self-care. Just like flight attendants always tell us to put on our own oxygen mask before helping others, we must take care of ourselves in order to be able to take care of others. If we are depleted of energy or enthusiasm, everything else in our life suffers. Read, relax, refocus – we deserve it.

Tip #15 – For those who believe in a higher being and eternal life, prayer is the ultimate source for living through a pandemic and everything else in life. As we turn our cares over to the Creator of the Universe, our hearts and minds are filled with inner peace.

Rather than allowing the pandemic to cause worry or anxiety, especially over the possibility of shortened life spans, use some of these tips to guide you to living a joyful life instead. Choose one tip to start today, then gradually try to add all of them to a daily routine. Conscious choices and positive living are the pathway to joy!

Discover Your Joy

How does one actually live a life filled with joy? Best-selling author and motivational speaker Louise Pistole has discovered the key to doing just that. She gives us that key in her best-selling book, 'Discover Your Joy: Daily Splashes of Inspiration for Living an Abundant Life of Happiness, Blessings, and Inner Peace'. It is a book unlike any other you will ever read.

While many of us believe that happiness is found at the end of some long, arduous process, it is instead that we begin from a state of joy. Some of us have it backwards. Joy is not a reward - it is a choice. And because it is a choice, it is something over which we hold total control. That choice can be made now - today.

Many of us feel hopeless and joyless. Perhaps our intentions are out of alignment with our actions. Surprisingly we can live in joy every day of our lives, but again - it is a choice.

"I made my choice one Sunday morning about 12 years ago when my minister spoke about being joyful and watching out for joy-stealers," Pistole stated. "His message resonated with me and I began my journey to joy through reading, studying, and writing. As I began choosing joy day after day, it gradually became a habit in my life. Now my mission is to guide others to discover their own joy through these daily inspirational readings."

In Discover Your Joy, readers will:

• Enjoy daily inspiration for happiness and joyfulness,
• Learn how to live an abundant life filled with gratitude, hope, and joy,
• Discover inner peace through encouraging words,
• Discover how to become a Joy-Fanatic and enjoy one's best life.

A quick inspirational read every morning helps readers discover ‘moments of joy’ each day. Chock-full of encouragement and motivation, readers will learn to seek and experience gratitude, hope, and true joy.

Readers and reviewers alike have praised 'Discover Your Joy'. One said, "Each page in "Discover Your Joy" is a simple and beautiful reminder that the world may not be perfect, there will always be the ups and the downs, but we have the ability to CHOOSE each day how we will use this gift we call life. I highly recommend this book!!" Another stated, "Pistole gives great insight into ways to remind us that our joy is important and to beware of “joy stealers”. This book is a great way to start your mornings with a great cup of coffee and to discover your joy each and every day!"

Bestselling Spiritual Adventure Travel Book, Finding 42, Is The Story Of A Wisconsin Marine Veteran Who Traveled A New Path To Find True Freedom

An awesome travel experience, combined with a powerful spiritual awakening, results in a spectacular piece of writing that will encourage readers to follow their hearts and change their realities.

Bestselling author and Wisconsin native Benny Mailman lives a life of which most of us can only dream. He did not achieve this through happenstance or luck. Instead, he consciously built it, step by step, during a journey that took him halfway around the globe. While many of us are content to sit in our chairs and wish for the chance to travel the world, Mailman took action. The first part of his ongoing journey is detailed in his bestselling book, Finding 42.

Benny Mailman served with 10th Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina before finishing his last two and a half years in Okinawa, Japan. While with the recon unit in Okinawa Benny had visited South Korea, the Philippines, and was even in mainland Japan, in Misawa. After his honorable discharge, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, majoring in Communications and minoring in public relations.

In the year 2000, Benny found himself pursuing a life in comedy in Las Vegas, Nevada. He took up classes with Second City Improv. Benny rode the Bike Taxi to make money for his dream pursuing. Eventually Benny ended up in New York City. Here he honed his comedic stand-up act before moving to Los Angeles. After a couple of tough years in LA, Benny fell in love with Denver, Colorado and moved there. It was in Denver that Benny decided to set out on his journey.

Finding 42, at its core, is an amazing adventure series. Book 1, Cut the Rope, begins with the author leaving the familiar, New York City, and flying into the unfamiliar, Moscow, Russia.

Finding 42 is a letting go of the known and often forced reality. It is about a man setting out to prove that a better reality was there for the creating. Within the journey, spiritual growth flourishes and an ancient knowledge is renewed in the strength, kindness, and beauty of the human spirit.

Book 1 is filled with stories and soulful connections with fellow travelers and locals alike. There is the story of Fire Horse in Mongolia, Tom Waits and Starbucks in Moscow, life aboard the Trans-Siberian Railroad, the Great Wall, and even a magical event in Luoyang, China. Fasten your seat belts, as it is all true.

Benny writes about his amazing travel adventures to encourage seekers of true freedom to follow their hearts and change their realities. In doing so, they will witness the deep connections we have to all humans, animals, and the earth. They will find Love.

In every village, city, and country, Benny high-fives, shares music, and exchanges smiles with people of all ages, cultures, ethnicities, and religions. He exchanges Love.

In November of 2018 Benny was visiting the US trying to find a publisher for his first book in the series. On a cool morning in La Crosse, Wisconsin he went for a walk in Riverside Park, which is flanked by the Mississippi River. He walked through the beautiful garden area where plaques mention sister cities of La Crosse around the world. Benny heard the Universe speak when he saw that Luoyang, China is a sister city to his beloved La Crosse. "It's all connected, we are all connected", Benny said out loud to himself.

In 'Finding 42’, Benny brings readers along as not just observers, but as fellow travelers. In his heart, anyone who reads this series is instantly his friend. His hope is that it stirs the magic within us, to join him and change our reality into that of our desires and wishes.

Readers have given 'Finding 42' rave reviews. One stated, ". . . A trip of a lifetime, the friendships/memories made, the places visited, will make you wish you had traveled with him." Another said, ". . . This book was a real breath of fresh air. It was pure joy reading it and remembering it. I look forward to Benny's next book and all the fun, wonders and delights it will bring."

Benny Mailman is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below, or by email at bennymailmansfinding42@gmail.com. 'Finding 42' is available at online book retailers. More information, including travel pictures and video, is available at his website at http://bennymailman42.com.

About Benny Mailman:

Benny currently lives in Siem Reap, Cambodia. He has been there for over 5 years, and has been married to his wife Vicheka, for 3 of those years. He is currently working on the audio for Book 1, and the release of Book 2 later this year.

The Best Books For Veterans: Veterans Of All Branches Of The Service Offer Glowing Reviews For Tom Burkhalter's No Merciful War Series

Tom Burkhalter writes dramatic stories in the tradition of James Jones, W.E.B. Griffin and C.S. Forester that share a no-nonsense view towards war and an attention to substance that is extraordinary
.

Among historical fiction readers who enjoy WWII action and WWII aircraft, author Tom Burkhalter has gained a reputation for realism that goes far beyond the ordinary. He has an uncanny talent for taking readers back in time, placing them squarely into the very center of the action. In every novel Burkhalter writes, edge-of-the-seat air war scenes are blended with tactical mastery to create not just a great novel, but also an immersive experience.

All of Burkhalter's books are enhanced by an unparalleled level of technical and historical detail, based on rock solid research and real world expertise. He maintains a laser-sharp focus on providing the reader with an experience - one that will project them into the very heart and soul of WWII. In addition to James Jones, W.E.B. Griffin and C.S. Forester, his writing style has been compared to Louis L'Amour, David Baldacci and Vince Flynn.

Burkhalter has received rave reviews for all of his books. Many of these reviews have come from readers of historical fiction.

One reviewer said, “Buy it, read it and tell everyone you know. Tom Burkhalter is as good as Clancy and Griffin.” Mark Lardas, writing in the Daily News of Galveston County, wrote of the first book, Everything We Had, that it “feels like a book which could have been written in the 1950s or 1960s by a veteran of the Pacific War.”

Top 500 Reviewer Dee Arr said, "Mr. Burkhalter has an incredible command of airplane knowledge, and is able to describe how each plane works, the sights and sounds one would experience if flying the planes in the book, and even adds items that spice up the action, such as the height when the atmosphere begins to play havoc with the engine and may possibly cause it to stall. This is the author’s five-star element."

But the reviews that really hold weight are those that come from veterans who have actually been there and done that. What do veterans have to say about the series?

Brilliant! The books that are part of Tom Burkhalter's 'No Merciful War' series are, without exception, rare gems that are entertaining, historically spot on, and a joy to read. Tom has not only created a cast of characters who are as real as the officers and enlisted men I have had the privilege of serving with, he leaves you wanting to see more of them. Even more impressive is his ability to succinctly depict the tactical and technical aspects of aerial combat. A must-read for anyone interested in the Pacific War when victory was far from certain.
Harold Coyle - Author of Team Yankee

Characters that stay with you!
I give a 5-star rating to each book in this series.
I appreciate Burkhalter's extensive research; that hard work made this novel come to life.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book
I'm a Tom Clancy and John Grisham fan. I love the way these guys use rich detail to help tell the story and help me "feel" and "see" what I am reading about. Tom Burkhalter is that kind of story teller. He's in their class. I'm reading Tom's second book now and will give it as glowing a review. Tom is not an author wannabe. He's the real deal. A master story teller and meticulous researcher. I'm going to read all of his books. Yup, he's that good!

Robert T. Holmes
5.0 out of 5 stars Great fictional account of FEAF World War II
My Great Uncle was a member of the 19th Bomber Group who died in a Japanese hell ship. This book gave me better insights into his experience.

Richard E. Kurtz
5.0 out of 5 stars The begining of World War 2 in the Philipines
ok for people who normally read non- fiction history only but occasionally like to read a good novel based on history. This novel tells the story of two Army Air Corps pilots in Manila during November and December 1941. One brother flies a P-40 and the other is the pilot on a B-17. Almost every sentence has factual technical references such as manifold pressure of the B-17's radial engines or the oil pressure of the Allison inline engines of the P-40'S.

Ernest L. Levin
5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Generation, Indeed!
This was like listening to one of my uncle’s (now deceased) reminiscences of his years in the Philippines during and after MacArthur. Remarkable research.

JR Hafer, aviation writer
5.0 out of 5 stars A fine historical fiction novel
Now what I personally like about historical fiction is the blending of setting and historical fact with an engaging story line to produce a work that is educational and informative as well as entertaining. And this author has done his homework! The flying scenes are not too technical, so a non-aviator can enjoy reading this book without getting lost in the jargon. But it will also keep the seasoned fliers interested and entertained. In fact they will both hastily keep turning the pages!

Richard Schofield
5.0 out of 5 stars An early WWII drama about those who fought when there was hardly anything to fight with
Burkhalter shines however in bringing the reader's attention down to the level of understanding the intricate logistics, flying procedures, effect of flight experience, and mechanics of air to air, and air to ground battle, from the airman's point of view - as in, that of pilot, gunner, and navigator. Burkhalter writes with a sense of knowing these vintage World War II airplanes inside out, and should, given his post for many years as one of the curators of the Hickory Aviation Museum, and writer and editor of its monthly newsletter.

OldSoldierSix
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Research and GOOD WRITING!
I am now into Book #4 of this series "No Merciful War," and must say this is some of the best fact-based military history fiction I've ever read. Author Tom Burkhalter's research is outstanding, his characters believable, and given my personal knowledge of the Pacific islands involved and the campaigns fought there, all details ring true. I highly recommend it.

Beau Crosby
5.0 out of 5 stars Burkhalter's Everything and Snowball Bang on
Brought back memories of working on R-1820s on Spookys and R-3350s for AC-119s. Later on 18 deployments to Incirlik from Torrejon these two yarns are as real as it gets. Fighter crews (Pursuit & Attack) still talked that way 69-72. Burkhalter is one or has lived with them! An Air Force W.E.B. Griffin.

Bob Waterfield, NREMT USN(ret)
5.0 out of 5 stars Great read . History told thru fiction!
Characters were believable. History told thru fiction. Life and death struggles of the beginnings of WW2. Highly recommend this series.

Books in the No Merciful War series by Tom Burkhalter include:

Everything We Had: a Novel of the Southwest Pacific Air War, November-December 1941

Japan surrounds American possessions in the Philippines with overwhelming force on three sides. The US Army desperately attempts to reinforce the Philippines garrison, but the armed forces of Imperial Japan may attack at any moment. Two brothers, Jack and Charlie Davis, are pilots in the US Army Air Forces. When they are sent to the Far Eastern Air Forces in the Philippines, they must depend on every ounce of courage, training, and skill they have to survive the coming war.

A Snowball’s Chance: a Novel of the Pacific Air War, January-February 1942

The victorious Japanese come south in overwhelming numbers, heading for the rich oil fields of Dutch possessions in Java and Borneo. The Allies send Jack and Charlie Davis and their friends, outnumbered and in obsolescent airplanes at the end of a long vulnerable supply line, to help the British and Dutch attempt to stop the Japanese Army and Navy. As the Dutch say, “Luck to the fighters!”

Boxcar Red Leader: a Novel of the Pacific Air War, May 1942

The Imperial Japanese Navy sails to invade Port Moresby, the last Allied base between the Japanese and Australia. If the Japanese take Port Moresby, Australia’s supply line to the United States will be cut. Jack Davis is sent to Port Moresby to command a flight of untrained young pilots flying a dangerous airplane no one wants, the P-39D Airacobra. Charlie Davis, now flying the B-17E Bronco Buster II, flies dangerous reconnaissance missions looking for the Japanese fleet. The Allies have lost the Philippines and Java. Can they hold Port Moresby?

Thanks for the Memories: a Novel of the SW Pacific Air War July-September 1942

It is July 1, 1942. The United States has been fighting in the Pacific for nearly seven months. The Japanese advance halted west of Australia at the island of Timor, and from Timor the Japanese stage bombing raids on Darwin. In the north, the Japanese hold the former Australian possessions of New Ireland and New Britain, including the town of Rabaul in the north of New Britain. Holding Rabaul gives the Japanese possession of Simpson Harbor, a deep-water port that the Japanese turn into a formidable forward base, swarming with Zeros and antiaircraft weapons. Rabaul begins to earn an evil reputation among the bomber crews of the USAAF and RAAF who fly there.

The New Kids: A Novel of the Air War on the Home Front August-September 1942
Military romance takes center stage in The New Kids, 5th book in master storyteller Tom Burkhalter’s No Merciful War series. Brothers Jack and Charlie Davis, survivors of nine months of vicious air fighting, return home to the challenges of long-deferred love, of living with memories of war, and of passing on lessons learned in combat to new pilots training for a much different air war over Europe. They may have survived the Pacific, but the war has only begun.

Shoestring's End: a Novel of the Pacific Air War, Dec 1942 - March 1943

Shoestring’s End begins as the disastrous year of 1942 ends. The Japanese toehold on the northern New Guinea coast, remnant of their advance almost to the gates of Port Moresby, has nearly been wiped out. The Japanese focus their efforts on reinforcing their forward base at Lae, on the Huon Gulf. The mission of the 5th Air Force is to cut off Lae. They must do this while fighting at the end of a shoestring, a supply line ten thousand miles long, using airplanes like the much-patched B-17E Bronco Buster II or the worn P-39D Airacobras of the 35th Fighter Group. New airplanes and new tactics arrive in an uncertain trickle. The Allied infantry, Australian and American, based in New Guinea, are exhausted from fighting and jungle diseases. If the Japanese reinforce Lae, the outcome of the war in the SW Pacific will remain unpredictable.
