Melissa Foster, author of Megan’s Way and founder of the Women’s Nest, will be appearing on The Authors Show radio beginning October 12, 2009. The interview will be featured on the show’s site and will be available through January 12, 2010.
Most great fiction writers give birth to their stories by looking within – within their own lives, within their own experiences and within their own heart. This is what sets good fiction writing apart from what we classify as great fiction writing. In Megan’s Way, Melissa Foster tells her story in such a way as to accomplish what all great writers hope to accomplish. She manages to bring the reader – heart, mind and soul - along with her on the journey. In Megan’s Way, she asks us to answer a question: ‘What would you give up for the people you love?’
Megan Taylor’s cancer has returned. As a single mother to teenaged Olivia, she’s faced with the most difficult decision she’s ever had to make. When Olivia’s internal struggles turn to dangerous behavior, even the paranormal connection they share might not be enough to save her. Years of betrayal come back to haunt Holly, Megan’s best friend. Can secrets be revealed without destroying everyone in their wake?
“Megan’s Way was born from an event with my mother many years ago,” stated Ms. Foster, “that festered and nagged at me. I felt compelled to write about Megan’s journey with cancer and the unconventional decision that she makes with regard to her treatments because I believe that the her plight is one that, unfortunately, many people fall prey to. Often times, people are judged harshly for making decisions that are right for them and often best for their family members as well. I wanted to give a voice to those who face these horrific decisions, and give a sense of hope to those that have lost loved ones.”
Ms. Foster has been featured in newspapers and magazines all over the country, including Infinite Field Magazine, The Maryland Gazette and the Monocacy Monacle. In addition to her appearance on The Authors Show, during the upcoming months she will be appearing on LibraryThing, GoodReads, the Gaithersburg Newcomers Group (MD) and SP Book Expo (NYC). She will also be appearing as a guest on numerous book blogs.
“I hope,” stated Ms. Foster, “readers come away with feelings of faith (not religiously affiliated), understanding, and empathy. There are enormous secrets that lie between the characters—some exposed, some unexposed, at the story’s end. I’d like to think that readers recognize that what compels a person to make decisions in their life may not always be wholly evident, and that while you may not agree with decisions made by others, perhaps they should not judge too quickly, and to accept and forgive for things they may not understand.”
