Author John Crippen demonstrates that although children and teens can develop a tendency to withdraw from the world as the result of using too much technology, there is one form of technology that will draw kids and teens back into the real world
There are hundreds of studies and surveys which clearly demonstrate that kids and teens are being negatively affected by interacting with modern technology. From cell phones to video games, computers to dvd’s, the documented effect on kids and teens is unquestionably negative. These negative effects are caused primarily by the tendency to withdraw from social interaction, withdrawal from society in general, a lack of exercise – even vitamin deficiencies resulting from lack of sunshine. Author John Crippen believes however there is one form of technology that draws kids and teen back into the world and actually increases their interaction with the world.
“Cameras,” stated Mr. Crippen, “could be said to be one of the only forms of modern day technology that require that the participant interact directly with the world around him or her. Photography and cameras sharpen and enhance creative thinking, improve observational skills and allow kids and teens to reconnect with the world around them.”
John Crippen’s new book, Cameras For Kids, is a fun filled book full of projects for young children. The projects found in Cameras For Kids are fun, simple and inexpensive to create. The book was written to stimulate art and creativity at an early age. Basic camera functions, settings, and even basic composition are covered in this book which is recommended for ages 7 through 14 years of age.
Camera functions, operating modes and simple composition concepts are described in easy to understand language. The concepts are accompanied by colorful images, icons, and example demonstrations for children to try on their own.
“The book was created,” continued Mr. Crippen, “with educators and parents in mind and can be easily adapted to a curriculum for art and enrichment programs. The program has been presented to a wide range of students in the Atascadero Unified School District, on the California Central Coast. The kids are very enthusiastic about the program. The book has already been adopted by districts and libraries.”
Apex Reviews said of Cameras For Kids “In an age when more and more parents tend to complain about the sedentary, video game obsessed culture in which their children are being raised, Cameras For Kids provides a wide assortment of healthy alternatives, encouraging children not only to engage their minds - but also their bodies - in the active exploration of the world around them.”
As a compliment to the book, there is a Cameras For Kids website with free instructions and information on photography, downloadable lesson plans for teachers, and even assistance in writing grants for schools with tight budgets. The website has many other topics for children to explore such as articles on animals, nature, and science. Designed to be an overall positive and enriching learning experience, the Cameras for Kids Website was created to reconnect children, parents, and teachers with the world around them.
“Unlike other electronic devices such as computers, TVs, MP3 players, cell phones, and video games,” stated Mr. Crippen, “the digital camera encourages kids to get outside, explore, and exercise. It is a form of technology kids can enjoy while providing all the benefits they miss while engaging with other forms of technology.”
Mr. Crippen is available for media interview and can be reached using the information below or by email at camerasforkids@gmail.com. More information is available at the authors website.

Award Winning Author Jill Vanderwood Helps Kids Teach Kids How To Go Green Simply By Living Green Themselves
With World Water Day, Earth Hour and Earth Day just around the corner, environmental awareness is at the forefront of our consciousness. Award winning author Jill Vanderwood believes that children can teach other children and adults about going green simply by living green themselves. Her children’s book, What's It Like, Living Green? Kids Teaching Kids by the Way They Live, describes how kids as young as four to seventeen are making better choices every day
Recycling, going green, reuse, clean energy and environmental awareness are all very popular buzzwords today. The mere use of buzzwords however does nothing to create real and lasting change. Only actions create change. It is this type of action that is described in Jill Vanderwood’s award winning book, What’s It Like, Living Green? Kids Teaching Kids by the Way They Live.
“There are three things,” stated Ms. Vanderwood, “that influenced me to write What’s It Like, Living Green? When we celebrated the 30th anniversary of Earth Day, I wondered if we had really made a difference for the planet. Next, my neighbor, Nicole, who is now thirteen, recycles aluminum cans so she can buy a Christmas gift for her everyone in her family. Third, my sister and my niece Azura drive an older Mercedes, fueled with used cooking oil. These are but a few of the examples found in the book.”
What's It Like Living Green? has won three national awards. The book was the recipient of the National Indie Excellence Award in the Green category. It won Motivational Minds’ 2009 Teen Development Award in the pre-teen category and also won the 2009 Best Books Award in the Green/Alternative Energy/ Conservation category given by USA Book News. What's It Like, Living Green has been featured in Ideal Bites newsletter (a Disney company) suggested green reading list for kids. Ms. Vanderwood has been quoted and featured on Disney Family iparenting.com. In addition, her books have been featured in the Staten Island Advance ‘Kids in the City’ column. What's It Like, Living Green was featured on the Green Team Utah website and Ms. Vanderwood was featured on the site as a Green Hero.
The book features stories describing how kids are making a real difference in the world. What’s It Like, Living Green? presents contributing authors who live green, such as Ryan Hreljac from Canada, who started Ryan's Well Foundation by providing clean water to a village school in Uganda at the age of seven, and Devon Green from Stewart, Florida who began Devon's Heal the World Recycling at the age of five. Here you will learn, from real families, how to make greenchoices as simple as putting on a sweater rather than turning up the heat. The book demonstrates how easy it is to reduce, reuse and recycle to create a healthy environment for the future.
“What’s It Like, Living Green?” continued Ms. Vanderwood, “is a great book for families who want to live green, and is of special interest as a teaching tool for schools. The book is written for ages 10 and up, but can be read with younger children.”
This book is available on Amazon.com and can be ordered through Baker and Taylor, Ingram's or through any local retailer. A portion of the book proceeds will be donated to Edwin Watts Southwind Park and Erin's Pavilion, in Springfield, IL, and Hibiscus Children's Center, to help build a playground for abused and neglected children in Jensen Beach, Florida. Ms. Vanderwood is available for interview and can be reached using the information below, or by email at throughtherug@earthlink.net.

Serious illness and death are never questions of ‘if’ but are rather a question of ‘when’. Nevertheless, very few people are really adequately prepared when these occur. Author Beatrice Toney Bailey, often called 'The Skinny Oprah' understands this, having recently lost her husband to cancer. Ms. Bailey has released a new book entitled Farewell My Friend. As a result of the release of her book, she has now taken on the role of televison host in an effort to reach a wider audience.
“Farewell My Friend,” stated Ms. Bailey, “is a manual and a workbook. It should not be something that is read and then set aside. The book is an active document that readers will internalize as they prepare for the inevitable. We do not necessarily need to be caught unaware. The show is a natural outgrowth of the philosophy behind the book. Adequate preparation and planning are the keys to coming through these life changing situations that we all must eventually face."
Ms. Bailey's televisions show, Bea On Bereavement, is aired twice weekly on Monday at 9 pm Pacific and Thursday at 8 pm Pacific. The show can be seen on Comcast Channels 20 or 96 and Surewest Channel 19 in the Sacremento California area. For those not in the Sacremento area, the show is also simulcast at www.RCCTV.net/. Author Hope Bradford Releases Beneficial Law of Attraction: The Manifestation Teachings
In this groundbreaking work, Ms. Bradford brings to the world the channeled teachings of the Eastern deity of Compassion, Kuan Yin
Author Hope Bradford has just released Beneficial Law of Attraction: The Manifestation Teachings. In this book an ancient deity, Kuan Yin, speaks directly on the subject of the law of attraction and manifestation.
In the winter of 2004, a hypnosis client of Ms. Bradford, Lena Lees, spontaneously channeled Eastern deity of Compassion, Kuan Yin. She revealed the deity's immutable teachings on the law of attraction. Witness and transcriber of these sessions, Ms. Bradford has now distilled the original treatise: bringing to readers Kuan Yin's world-renowned compassion and its centrality to Beneficial Law of Attraction. To this day, Ms. Bradford continues to write about the power of focused intent and our potential to attract the most divine life imaginable.
“Whether consciously or unconsciously,” stated Ms. Bradford, “we are always doing the law of attraction. The events and relationships we do attract range in varying degrees from beneficial to harmful. As a Certified Hypnotherapist, I have long known that if we are centered and properly focused we are much more likely to actualize that which is most fulfilling. Kuan Yin's spiritual teachings are the pioneer path allowing us to utilize the seven innate forces to achieve personal Beneficial Law of Attraction. Using Kuan Yin's interactive strategies we can live, as much as possible, in the highest vibration: our ‘moment-to-moment’ consciousness. Mastering this kind of positive energy is integral to successfully implementing Kuan Yin's six-step Beneficial Law of Attraction.”
The recent success of many books regarding manifestation has brought this subject to the forefront of the public consciousness. However, in several respects, these books leave much to be desired in regards to the actual nuts and bolts of manifesting one's life goals. Beneficial Law Of Attraction not only fills in these missing gaps, it completely rewrites these concepts from the very beginning and can offer the reader a pragmatic, step by step guide to manifesting whatever the reader might desire. Beneficial Law of Attraction can provide the answers to the questions so many of us still hold.
Ms Bradford possesses a unique gift - the ability to translate complex metaphysical concepts and ideas into layman’s terms that the reader will find easy to understand and can put to use immediately. In Beneficial Law of Attraction: the Manifestation Teachings, her engaging style of writing communicates these concepts in such a way as to guide the reader gently but surely down a path that can lead to clarity and accomplishment. Distilling the essence of the goddess's channelings, Ms. Bradford presents Kuan Yin's compassionate method for enhancing the next generation of manifestation science.
Ms. Bradford is available for interview and can be reached using the information below or by email at kuanyinspirit@hotmail.com. More information is available at Amazon.com or at https://www.createspace.com/1000238319.

Local Author Describes How Planning A Child's Graduation Can Turn Into Planning A Child's Funeral
For author Pat Bluth, planning for her daughters graduation turned into planning for her child's funeral when she lost her teenage daughter at the hand of a drunk driver. Ms. Bluth sees real similarities in the recent events surrounding the loss of Chelsea King at the hands of a sexual predator. In her book, From Pain To Peace, Ms. Bluth demonstrates how rage can be transformed into forgiveness.
In her book, From Pain To Peace, author Pat Bluth shares her story regarding how her life changed after the death of her 17 year old daughter at the hands of a drunk driver. She describes in detail what happened on that night and how it felt to go from planning for a graduation to planning for a funeral. Now, watching the events surrounding the loss of Chelsea King in San Diego, she draws a comparision between the loss of Chelsea King and the no less painful loss so many unfortunate parents are forced to face as a result of drunk driving.
"When I heard about the death of 17-year-old Chelsea King of San Diego, California," stated Ms. Bluth, "I was taken back years ago to when my own 17 year old daughter, Tammy, was killed by a drunk driver. What came to mind was the anger of such a beautiful young woman with her life ahead of her snuffed out by someone that had no respect for the life of others. The pain the parents will have to go through in the weeks, months, and years ahead will be horrific. My experience is there is no easy way to grieve; no blue print to follow and it takes a lifetime."
“I wrote this book because I believe I have a story to share that offers hope and inspiration to others that have suffered a loss," Ms. Bluth continued. "As a grief counselor, I learned that many people get stuck in their grief, anger, or unresolved feelings. I wanted to share that grief is a process that doesn’t have to control your life forever. Forgiveness was something I thought was impossible after my 17 year old daughter was killed by a drunk driver. I was wrong. My book describes in detail what I did on an 8-day silent retreat to heal. Others can follow this process.”
After the death of her daughter, Ms. Bluth started a MADD chapter in her county. She also attended Compassionate Friends meetings, a support group for parents whose children have died, and began journaling.
“All these things helped,” stated Ms. Bluth, “but I found no lasting peace. Four years later I felt suicidal and called out to God for help. I talked to my priest and at his suggestion I attended an 8 day silent retreat. That was my answer for finally finding peace. As for the parents of Chelsea King, I can only offer hope. What is needed most at a time like this is for family and friends to give them love and offer support in the form of a listening ear. ”
Ms. Bluth shares her story all over the country. She divides her time between Gulf Shores, Alabama and Brainerd, Minnesota. Ms. Bluth is available for speaking engagements and interviews and can be contacted using the information below or by email at pat@patbluth.com. Copies of her book, From Pain To Peace, are available at her website at www.patbluth.com and from most bookstores and major online booksellers.

Authors Nancy Seifer And Martin Vieweg Describe What Will Occur Beyond 2012 In When The Soul Awakens:
Is 2012 really the end of the world? Or does the new millennium herald a transformation of consciousness with the dawn of the Age of Aquarius? In this groundbreaking book, Seifer and Vieweg provide a glimpse of the future beyond 2012 as revealed in the ageless wisdom teachings. The authors describe what will occur as the soul awakens and human consciousness shifts. Nancy Seifer will appear on The Authors Show Radio on March 4, 2010
Author Nancy Seifer will appear on The Authors Show Radio on March 4, 2010 to discuss her groundbreaking new book When The Soul Awakens: The Path To Spiritual Evolution And A New World Era.
For millions of people around the world, the year 2012 has become a signpost of “the end of the world as we know it.” When the Soul Awakens looks beyond 2012 to the dawn of the Aquarian Age—the start of a new cycle of human evolution. It points toward a new era when the spiritual awakening now underway will come to flower, giving rise to an enlightened global civilization.
“The ageless wisdom teachings,” stated Ms. Seifer, “tell us that humanity is at a critical turning-point in our evolutionary journey—we’re moving out of an age of material darkness and into an age of spiritual light. We wrote this book for people who are searching for higher truth in these tumultuous times and who could benefit, as we did, from this amazing body of wisdom. Our hope is to make it accessible to all genuine seekers. As Deepak Chopra recently said, ‘Only spirituality can solve the problems of the world.’ This book explains how.”
Based on the Ageless Wisdom, the book sees the current world crises as the birth pangs of a new time. The rising tide of human suffering that has swept the planet since the start of this millennium is serving to spark an expansion of consciousness among people everywhere. This book was written for awakening souls who want to know what comes next on the evolutionary journey, and to find their role in the unfolding plan.
Rolland G. Smith, Emmy award-winning broadcast journalist, called When the Soul Awakens “the definitive work of research, eloquence and skillful attunement to the subject at hand.” John L. Petersen, world-renowned futurist, called it “a wonderfully written tapestry that not only illuminates the past, but also shines a bright light on what is on the horizon.” He added, “This is a very special, extraordinarily valuable volume for anyone who wants to actively participate in the biggest event in our history."
Nancy Seifer will appear on The Authors Show Radio on March 4, 2010 at www.TheAuthorsShow.com. Seifer and Vieweg are available for interview and can be reached using the information below or by email at booksatgwp@verizon.net. When The Soul Awakens: The Path To Spiritual Evolution And A New World Era
ISBN: 978-0-9820047-0-8
Profile:
Nancy Seifer and Martin Vieweg have been studying and practicing the principles of the Ageless Wisdom for over thirty years. This book represents the harvest of their transformative journeys.
Nancy Seifer was an idealist and activist early in life, before finding her way to the spiritual path. During the 1960s, she was a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa, a staff member at the African-American Institute in New York City, and an aide for ethnic affairs to New York City Mayor John V. Lindsay. In the 70s she directed a program on women and diversity at the Institute on American Pluralism, where she wrote numerous articles, papers, and chapters for anthologies. Her writings on American working-class women include a monograph (Absent From the Majority,1973) and a book (Nobody Speaks for Me!, 1976) that are still in use at colleges and universities.
In the late 70s, Nancy embarked on a quest for spiritual truth that led her to the ageless wisdom teachings, and to involvement in several visionary endeavors. While directing the Center for Peace through Culture, she travelled to the Soviet Union in 1986—a trip that sparked a decade-long immersion in post-Soviet Russia as spirituality was reemerging there. After writing Russian Odyssey (2003), a spiritual memoir born of that experience, she began work on When the Soul Awakens in an effort to make esoteric wisdom more accessible to a growing body of seekers.
Martin Vieweg has been a student, writer, and lecturer within the esoteric community for over three decades. Early in life he pursued a wide range of spiritual teachings and practices—from Ernest Holmes’ “Science of Mind” to Edgar Cayce’s “Search for God.” While working at the Association for Research and Enlightenment in Virginia Beach he lectured on reincarnation, dream study, and extra-sensory perception. In the mid-70s he enrolled in a program for esoteric training at the Lucis Trust, publisher of the Alice Bailey books. He later joined the headquarters staff of the Trust in New York City, serving as co-director of a global meditation project and frequent lecturer. More recently, Martin served for many years as Director of Data Management for the United Negro College Fund in northern Virginia, where he and his wife, Nancy, coauthored When the Soul Awakens.
