Flip Along Fun, written by author Michael J. Dowling and illustrated by Sarah Buell Dowling, teaches children important educational concepts while providing hours of interactive fun. The Mom’s Choice Award recognizes the best among family-friendly products and services
The Mom's Choice Awards has named Flip Along Fun children's picture book among the best in family-friendly media, products, and services. The interactive, educational flip book for children ages 2 – 6 received a gold award in the basic learning concepts category.
The Mom’s Choice Awards (MCA) is an awards program that recognizes authors, inventors, companies, parents, and others for their efforts in creating quality family-friendly media, products, and services. The organization's esteemed panel of judges includes educational and media experts, parents, children, librarians, performing artists, producers, medical and business professionals, authors, and scientists.
Flip Along Fun invites young children to create stories by mixing and matching panels containing colorful animals, rhyming text, and numbers. In the process of having fun, they learn several important concepts, including addition, matching, colors, numbers, animals, rhymes, sequencing, and beginning/middle/end. The book has received enthusiastic praise from parents, educators, pediatricians, and child psychologists for its unique educational design.
"I'm thrilled that Flip Along Fun won this prestigious award," said Michael J. Dowling, author. "We set out to create a book that promotes participative learning, creativity, and logical thinking, while providing hours of fun. The feedback from parents and educators has been terrific, and this is more evidence that we've succeeded in achieving our design goals."
Sarah Buell Dowling, an award-winning artist and illustrator, provided twenty-seven colorful, whimsical illustrations for the book. Sarah also happens to be the wife of the author. "We love working as a team," said Sarah. "We have a lot of laughs inventing stories and watching the characters evolve."
Parents, educators, librarians and retailers rely on MCA evaluations when selecting quality materials for children and families. The seal helps families and educators navigate the vast array of products and services and make informed decisions.
The organization's panels have included such illustrious judges as
• Dr. Twila C. Liggett, ten-time Emmy winner, professor and founder of PBS’s Reading Rainbow
• Julie Aigner-Clark, Creator of Baby Einstein and The Safe Side Project
• Jodee Blanco, New York Times best-selling author
• Priscilla Dunstan, creator of the Dunstan Baby Language
• Patricia Rossi, host of NBC’s Manners Minute
• Dr. Letitia S. Wright, D.C., host of the Wright Place™ TV Show
• Catherine Witcher, M.Ed., special needs expert and founder of Precision Education, Inc.
MCA judges are bound by a strict code of ethics that ensures expert and objective analysis free from the influence of any manufacturer or association. The evaluation process uses a propriety methodology in which entries are scored on a number of elements including production quality, design, educational value, entertainment value, originality, appeal, and cost.
Judges perform a thorough evaluation and submit a detailed assessment. Results are compiled and submitted to the MCA Executive Committee for final approval. The result is a list of the best in family-friendly media, products, and services that parents and educators can feel confident in using.
