Many people are confused by the terms 'psychic' and 'medium'. Pat Chalfant, a credentialed Spiritualist medium, offers guidance and advice
For most of us, the words 'psychic' and 'medium' seem to be interchangeable. That, however, is not the case. There are many differences and they are important. Pat Chalfant, author of 'Spirit Lights, A Path To Mediumship', offers some broad and general rules to help others understand the difference.
"All the mediums I have known through the years," Chalfant stated, "have worked as mediums in Spiritualist churches. The following list compares the ways that all the mediums I’ve known have done their work and the ways that psychics (crystal ball readers, tarot and angel card readers, rune readers, etc.) typically work for the public:"
• Mediums must take classes then pass tests before becoming legally credentialed mediums; psychics sometimes take “psychic” classes, but aren’t required to.
• Mediums give their readings typically in a spiritual atmosphere, usually a Spiritualist church; psychics usually give their readings in non-spiritual spaces.
• Mediums give readings to prove the continuity of life (life after death); psychics typically just attempt to foretell their clients’ earthly futures.
• Mediums pass a plate for donations when giving weekly messages within a Spiritualist church service; psychics rent space then sell their readings at set fees.
"As with everything else on earth," Chalfant concluded, "there are always exceptions to the rules, but broadly speaking, these things are characteristic of the behavior of mediums versus psychics."
Meditation is extremely important in mediumship development. Pat reveals that she has had several different guides for reading work through the years and she feels that because she initially established her connection with her first guide in the proper way, through meditation in a development class, her communication with each successive guide has always been clear and very effective.
'Spirit Lights A Path To Mediumship', explains how Pat, a real skeptic regarding such matters, developed mediumship abilities and now lives a life transformed by the spiritual. Mediumship is a controversial issue and Pat understands this, but she also believes that credible mediumship holds the promise of real benefits for mankind that have not been fully explored.
In addition to offering one-on-one client consultations, Pat has penned the 'Spirit Lights Song Book' and three of those songs are in the National Spiritualist Association of Churches hymn book. There are samples of the words and music on her web site, www.patchalfant.com, and ‘Spirit Lights’ song books for sale there, too. She does readings for clients by phone and teaches mediumship development classes. She has also created a DVD entitled 'Spirit Lights Psychic Development DVD'.
