Dr. Holstein's short films, books, stage plays, selfies and videos are part of an array of tools parents and grandparents can use to reconnect with children and grandchildren
A recent article on the New York Times website entitled 'Want to Find Fulfillment At Last? Think Like a Designer'. One premise of the article is that we can, given the right approach, actually design the kind of life we desire. This allows us to take a conscious approach to fitting all of the pieces together - a life blueprint - for building what we want from the raw materials available. At the very core of this approach lies the primary goal. That is vitally important for two reasons:
a) Most people just look at their experiences and then try to make sense of the experiences after the fact. This is akin to trying to design something new and different by moving old, worn out pieces around without a plan. Designers don't do that because that does not work. And,
b) most people get overwhelmed as changes occur. This can result in seeing every new thing as an obstacle, rather than an opportunity.
Dr. Holstein takes the designer approach instead. Everything she produces is built around one central theme - teach kids, parents and grandparents how to build self esteem, good mental health, happiness and a sense of purpose. Her books, films, tools, videos, blogs and articles all play off those central themes. The end result is a vast collection of techniques that help people accomplish those goals. The concept is perfectly cohesive across all formats and staggering in the sheer number of ways that concept is approached from all conceivable angles. The selfie is her pet project.
"Most people see young people and their love of technology as a barrier to communication across generations," Dr. Holstein stated. "I see instead a real opportunity to connect. Maybe I think this way because I have been immersed for years in developing a cohesive approach to good mental health, happiness and a sense of purpose based on understanding and developing our talents, strengths and even hidden potential. We all have parts of ourselves that work well and we all have parts that are less functional or can even get us into trouble. My ENCHANTED SELF positive psychology approach takes all of these factors in account and helps us develop our talents, strengths and potential to the fullest. How? By teaching people how to focus on what is right about themselves, rather than what is wrong. How to use their memory banks to retrieve their potential, not their failures. Also I teach people how to recognize what their stumbling blocks are and how to gently and kindly start to work to get past them.
"The thread that ties all of the ENCHANTED SELF methods together is communicating and understanding and looking for the pearls in each of us. For example, if I can recognize and acknowledge that I have self-esteem problems then I can begin to figure out how to move forward. I can use the SEVEN GATEWAYS to HAPPINESS to realize that I have a fascinating story to tell, that I can figure out what I need to move forward, that I can find mentors, that if I feel depressed I can reach out, etc.
"Going back to kids, technology is not a barrier. It is just another tool to examine, figure out how to make useful and use as we learn even better techniques to communicate between generations.
Some of Dr Holstein's individual approaches include:
Books:
The Truth: Diary of a Gutsy Tween
The Truth: I'm a Girl, I'm Smart and I Know Everything

Videos:

Proof Of The Afterlife Brings Peace, Freedom From Fear And Anxiety Says Author, Speaker And NDE Expert Brian McLaughlin
McLaughlin's book about his NDE details his totally unique near death experience. It is raw and it's real. There is no embellishment, no preaching and no hidden agenda
All human beings have core needs. Peace, certainty and freedom from fear and anxiety. These are primary and necessary, as they allow us to experience a sense of safety, well-being and lie at the very core of the ability to live a fulfilling life. It's not that we want these things - we need these things. We all seek them, every single day.
Brian McLaughlin, near death experience expert, speaker and author of a highly praised book about NDE, 'A Flight Without Wings, My Experience With Heaven', shows us how we can achieve these states. We can experience a life filled with peace in the midst of discord. We can find freedom from fear when faced with uncertainty. We can overcome any form of anxiety, even while facing down threats from within and without. Depression, despair and dismay can easily be transformed into peace, confidence, contentment and joy in one single stroke. What is this most powerful concept that will allow us achieve these states?
The key is to accept that the afterlife really does exist - without question. This has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with truth. While the afterlife cannot be proven using a scientific method based in the physical, it can be proven through one's experience. McLaughlin is one of very few people who have had that experience. He speaks from that experience and his readers and audiences reap the benefits.
McLaughlin states: “Inner peace for me, comes from overcoming fear in my life through my experience in Heaven. Benefits such as understanding, clarity and awareness contribute to that overall peacefulness . but recognizing real opportunities that exist all around us- all the time, sometimes makes me wish I had been able to see them sooner. I have taken advantage of many of them over the years since my accident, and enjoy the success of doing so. Allowing this small “adjustment” in your life may very well afford you the same fearless approach to life, relationships and job related issues. Imagine not worrying about failure, or fear of disappointment , embarrassment , rejection, or any of the fears that hold us back in life. Try replacing fear with love, even in baby steps. You will certainly discover a new and exciting perspective that will benefit you and those around you”
A Flight Without Wings' offers us a look at the near death experience from an unbiased point of view. It is the presentation of the material that sets this book apart from the other books about the near death experience. It is raw and it's real. There is no embellishment and no hidden agenda. While his book has a spiritual flavor certainly, there is no preaching and no religious messages. It is his near-death experience, just as it happened.
McLaughlin's experience changed the course of his life forever. It instilled in him what we all seek - certainty about life after death. And with that a peace of mind that can never be shaken, nor can it be doubted. His near death experience brought a sense of clarity. It brought a sense of real, lasting peace. He now knows with certainty that we exist forever. It is that simple message he brings to his audience, both through his book and at his speaking engagements.
Brian McLaughlin was chosen as one of '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' in 2015. Reviews of 'A Flight Without Wings' have been overwhelmingly positive. Dr. Penny Sartori, author of 'The Wisdom of Near-Death Experiences', said "This book will help others who have had an NDE to make sense of their experience and will also help those close to someone who has had an NDE because NDEs affect close family members and friends too."
Jack Magnus, a reviewer with Readers Favorite, called the book a "well written and moving memoir that neither delves into the fanciful or dogmatic,...” "…Well worth reading, and is highly recommended." Another stated, "Being a mother who lost her only child I found it to be a great comfort to me." Another said, "I have read many accounts such as these, but this beautifully written account simply touched my heart in ways that previous ones have not."
Mark Feuerstein, Actor (Royal Pains, USA Network) wrote: “I have read it and I think it’s an inspiring tale of deep insight and so personal and yet so universal . . . such profound perspective.”

Cynthia Martindale, Author Of Book About Caregiving, 'Graceful Last Chapters', Takes Bronze Medal In International Book Awards
Martindale is the author of the ultimate guide to caregiving. She helps caregivers chart a clear path through caregiving challenges, options, and eventual heartbreak
Author Cynthia Martindale has announced that her highly praised book for caregivers, 'Graceful Last Chapters: Helping Seniors Who Need More Care', has taken a Bronze Award in the 2016 Readers' Favorite International Book Award contest.
Cynthia Martindale is an expert in regards to end of life planning and issues that impact seniors. She spent much of her career as a sales and marketing director for senior living communities. She is a seasoned veteran of all things senior-related. In 'Graceful Last Chapters', she shares her twenty years of experience with senior care in a voice filled with compassion, understanding, and an insider's point of view.
As the primary caregiver for her parents in their declining years, as a sales and marketing director for senior living communities, and as a lawyer, Ms. Martindale brings readers a valuable resource about caring for aging loved ones. The book is filled with support and guidance for caregivers, clearly defined options for care, and the ways and means for readers to craft their own successful journey through caregiving challenges and heartbreak. Ms. Martindale offers readers fundamental knowledge, hope, a sense of identity and, ultimately, a path toward peace of mind.
"I’m deeply honored that ‘Graceful Last Chapters’ was selected as the Bronze medal winner for nonfiction/relationships in the 2016 Readers’ Favorite International Book Award Contest,” Martindale stated. “The award encourages me as an impassioned author, and its visibility makes it possible to help more readers struggling to find options and best practices while caring for aging loved ones. Thank you, Readers’ Favorite, for a book award contest recognized and respected worldwide by authors, publishers, and readers alike.”
Martindale combines her education, business expertise, and personal experiences to bring readers a valuable resource about caring for aging loved ones. The book's twenty-seven chapters are grouped into seven sections: (One) Considering Long-Term Care Options; (Two) Caregiving Challenges; (Three) Creating a Plan; (Four) Aging in Place With Additional Care; (Five) Senior Living Communities; (Six) Touring Senior Communities; and (Seven) After the Bloom Fades. The chapters build gradually to mimic the progression of the journey caregivers take with their senior loved one, whether that individual is their mother, father, aunt, uncle, sibling, spouse, friend, or neighbor.
'Graceful Last Chapters' has achieved a perfect 5 star rating on Amazon. One reviewer stated, "It is rare to encounter such an obviously experienced counselor in the field of Senior Care as Cynthia who demonstrates on every page of this impressive and ultimately authoritarian guide such tenderness, calm and candor." Another said, "This book captures not only the practical information on choices for seniors but it deals with the tougher emotional side of caring for loved ones as they age."
Readers' Favorite receives submissions from independent authors, small publishers, and publishing giants like Random House, HarperCollins and Simon & Schuster, with contestants that range from the first-time, self-published author to New York Times bestsellers like J.A. Jance, James Rollins, and #1 best-selling author Daniel Silva, as well as celebrity authors like Jim Carrey, Henry Winkler, and Eriq La Salle.
Eduardo Aduna, a Readers' Favorite reviewer stated, "For a book that is all about helping seniors get the care they need, Martindale never fails to highlight the emotional and physical toll the job takes on the caregiver themselves, and manages to come up with several ways to make this difficult task more bearable. It is this comprehensive and insightful knowledge that makes this book 'the book' on elderly care, and a must-have in every home, hospice, and senior facility. The elderly and their caregivers will find 'Graceful Last Chapters: Helping Seniors Who Need More Care' a fascinating read that will greatly enrich their knowledge about this extremely important matter."

US Department Of Peace Is An Idea Whose Time Has Come Says Frances Fuller, Award Winning Author Of Book About Lebanon, 'In Borrowed Houses'
Fuller spent many years in the Middle East. She puts a face on the Middle East many Americans have not yet seen. Her award-winning memoir, 'In Borrowed Houses', gives readers a penetrating glimpse of the Middle East from the inside
The US needs a Department of Peace. This election year there is a great deal of rhetoric that endlessly furthers a multitude of divisive agendas and strategies. Until now our country has not pursued peace, because it is not on anyone’s job description. We have a one-armed State Department. The one arm is called the Department of Defense. Frances Fuller, author of 'In Borrowed Houses', believes we also need a Department of Peace.
"We need a Department of Peace whose head, the Secretary of Peace, will be part of the President’s cabinet," Fuller stated. "This secretary must engage the best thinkers in our country, from generals to peace activists, philosophers and psychologists, historians and scientists, ministers and moms, in the study and development of peace strategies. The overarching assignment of this group should be to help the Secretary develop a national plan for creating peace in our country and the world.
"Just as the Department of Defense assesses security threats and responds to them, the Department of Peace can identify opportunities for creating cooperation and friendship and respond to them with wisdom, or see conflict coming and attack the problem behind it. Like war, peace requires intention and planning and preparation and deeds of valor.
"Using creative and peace loving citizens, the peace department might promote wonderful innovations in the ways we relate to one another at home and as a nation with other nations. We might face up to the injustices in our own society and by addressing them, reduce the violence in our cities. Internationally we could become a country that is famous for creating peace rather than dominating the world.
"Dennis Kucinich proposed a Department of Peace in 2005. Interviewing him about this, Walter Cronkite observed that every time the people of the world even heard the words, 'Department of Peace,' their image of America would be impacted.
"The proposal has failed in the Congress until now, because we the people did not get behind it or did not even know. We are so accustomed to violence that we consider peace a beautiful fantasy. In fact, we are pursuing the alternative and evil fantasy that we can always be stronger than our enemy and overcome their violence with ours. Given the choice of these two fantasies, I choose peace and want a president with a plan for peace."
Frances Fuller puts a face on the Middle East many Americans have not yet seen. Her award-winning memoir, 'In Borrowed Houses', gives readers a penetrating glimpse of the Middle East from the inside.
Told in short episodes, Fuller’s book reveals the alienation, confusion and courage of civilians in the Lebanese civil war, introducing to the reader a variety of real people with whom the author interacts: editors, salesmen, neighbors, refugees, soldiers, missionaries, lawyers, shepherds, artists, students. With these people she works, studies, plays games, prays, laughs and cries, all to the accompaniment of gunfire. Together these small stories tell what war is like for civilians caught on a battlefield, and they create the impression of the Lebanese as a fun-loving, witty, patient and resilient people. Fuller's stories compose not a political history, but a historical document of a time and a place.
Critics have praised ‘In Borrowed Houses.’ A judge in the 22nd Annual Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Awards called 'In Borrowed Houses' “ . . a well written book full of compassion . . . a captivating story . . . ”. Another reviewer described the book as “Wise, honest, sensitive, funny, heart-wrenching . . .”. Colin Chapman, lecturer in Islamic Studies at the Near East School of Theology in Beirut said, “ . . . western Christians and Middle Eastern Christians need to read this story…full of remarkable perceptiveness and genuine hope.”
Frances Fuller is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at frances0516@att.net. The full text of her latest article is available at her website. Fuller's book is available at Amazon and other book retailers. A free ebook sample from 'In Borrowed Houses' is available at http://www.payhip.com/francesfuller. Frances Fuller also blogs on other issues relating to the Middle East on her website at http://www.inborrowedhouseslebanon.com.
About Frances Fuller:
Frances Fuller spent thirty years in the violent Middle East and for twenty-four of those years was the director of a Christian publishing program with offices in Lebanon. While leading the development of spiritual books in the Arabic language, she survived long years of civil war and invasions.

Animal Miracles Happen Every Day Too - Donna Louis, Author Of Book About Miracles, Gives Readers A New Perspective On Miracles
Donna Louis provides an in-depth study of some of Christianity's most well-documented miracles. She attempts to expand and explain both the purpose and the direction of those miracles
What constitutes a miracle? It depends on who one asks. Nearly everyone will agree that a miracle is an extraordinary event in the physical world that defies a rational explanation. While we might think miracles don't happen today, perhaps they do.
A recent story from the town of Galt in Sacramento County entitled 'Freeway Miracle?' is an astounding story of an injured dog that survived 5 weeks with 2 broken bones. How the dog survived is anybody's guess. Surviving without food or water for 5 weeks is more than likely physically impossible. Yet the dog, nicknamed 'Freeway Frida' did just that. The dog was subsequently rescued, was treated for the injuries and is now on the adoption list. Many people believe it is a bona fide miracle. It very well may be.
The public is fascinated with miracles, as they demonstrate there is a reality that lies beyond what our eyes and ears show us. While we might believe that miracles are the result of a Power that lies elsewhere and occasionally intercedes in the affairs of the human race, it is even more possible that this Power works in physical reality through the minds and the hands of mankind. Even the miracles of Jesus were performed through a human body, living in physical reality.
Miracles demonstrate that there is something that lies beyond our senses that has our best interests at heart. There is much comfort in that.
Donna Louis' new book, 'Miracles of Direction, Miracles of Conquest, Miracles of Provision and Miracles of Purpose' explores biblical miracles that took place while Jesus was here on earth. She then references with miracles that take place on a daily basis in the modern world. She separates these miracles into four categories and presents insightful example of each type, taken directly from the Bible.
Louis knows her subject well, as she has personally experienced three miracles. As the result of those life-altering experiences, she began an in-depth study of some of Christianity's most well-documented miracles. In her book, she attempts to expand upon and explain both the purpose and the direction of those miracles.
"Miracles are acts of God that proclaim his sovereign power over creation as well as his commitment to the good of his people," Louis stated. "Miracles don't happen when there is smooth sailing in your life. Miracles happen when all hell is breaking loose because that is when they are needed. When they happen they provide comfort, strength, and enhance a persons belief in God. It is like petting or stroking a dog, it lowers your blood pressure and emanates calm."
Louis was chosen as a winner in the 2015 '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' awards contest. 'Miracles' has also received rave reviews from readers. One review called it "amazing, uplifting and inspirational". Another stated, "I was profoundly impressed by the writing."

Canadian Novelist Rusty Blackwood Announces New Release Of 5 Star Rated Romantic Fiction Novel, 'Willow's Walk', Classic Romantic Fiction Set In Modern Day Context
Rusty Blackwood's 5 star romance novel follows 'Passions In Paris', written in the tradition of Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' and 'What Dreams May Come'
Canadian Indie novelist Rusty Blackwood, author of the romantic fiction saga 'Passions In Paris', has announced the re-release of her newest romantic fiction novel, 'Willow's Walk'.
Her first romantic fiction book, 'Passions in Paris: Revelations Of A Lost Diary' is a sweeping saga written in the tradition of Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' and 'What Dreams May Come'. It has been compared to Erich Segal's 'Love Story' and Nicholas Sparks' 'The Notebook'.
'Willow's Walk' takes Blackwood's storytelling skills to a new level - the storyline hits home with readers as they are partially based in reality and real world situations that readers find highly relatable. The end effect of this approach is that readers can often put themselves squarely in the stories she presents. 'Willow's Walk' presents a story of an Internet meeting that goes tragically wrong.
Set in the city of Ottawa, Canada in 2003, the story centers on the life and times of a woman determined to prevail at all costs, regardless of what is set before her, the result of which is certain to leave the reader reeling in its wake.
The path each person walks is entirely their own. The pitfalls along that path, as well as the way in which they are dealt with are entirely up to the individual. But Willow Sutherland Crosby walks a far-different path, and with her own agenda.
Abuse, deception, intrigue, and a never ending quest for happiness and love - will she find these, or will her blind determination be her downfall?
"I cannot express how pleased and proud I am to re-release this riveting and meaningful story to my readers," Rusty Blackwood stated. "The ideas behind a story, whether they are based on fiction or fact, can often result in the success it finds when brought to print and released before the public's eyes. But the basis for Willow's Walk is one that I not only had an inside track on, but one that I felt needed being told." Miss Blackwood further stated, "The Internet can be a wonderful place where anything can be discovered, questions answered, and solid friendships formed and enjoyed. But it can also be a place of darkness, extreme upheaval, and endless heartache. It is my hope that Willow's unfortunate plight will help light the way for others standing on the sadly realistic brink of possible destruction. A writer can only hope that the words they form into stories, are words that both entertain and educate. I hope this can be realized in my newly modified Willow's Walk."
While in pre-release, 'Willow's Walk' received a number of 5 star reviews from professional reviewers. Maria Beltran stated, "I highly recommend this book." Gisela Dixon said, ". . . I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the life of a person presented in such a wonderful manner."
'Passions In Paris' has also received rave reviews. Linkk Kula Kane said, "Passions in Paris I think stands its ground with these other powerful romantic stories like 'The Notebook' by Nicolas Sparks. A long kindled love, which finds its place from a romantic spark in the mind of one, to a mounting real life experience between two different worlds, brought together by an on going weave of circumstances, doubts, mystery, and intrigue, that sets ablaze forbidden emotions on a roller coaster ride of endless desire, and surmounting obstacles, that test the strength of their determination to prevail. Miss Blackwood has a rare talent to bring this and more into the minds and hearts of those who have had the privilege to be transported into her wonderful world of story telling."
Reader Fred Pifer stated that 'Passions', " . . .is a fascinating book of a love story that seemed to be written with me in mind. In the book 'Love Story' by Erich Segal, he told of a deep abiding love story that reminds me of Cullen and Joy’s in Ms. Blackwood’s book, but the twists of intrigue and mystery that she adds keeps the reader on edge throughout."
Other reviewers have praised 'Passions In Paris'. Reviewer Cat Howard said, "Eternal love, finding your true soul mate, and how echoes from past lives can influence the present, this story has it all . . . " Another Reader's Favorite reviewer stated, "Enjoyable and exciting, this is a book for people who have romance flowing in their veins." 'Passions In Paris' has a 4 star rating on Amazon.
Information on the new romantic fiction release, including a new book trailer, is available at Blackwood's site on the 'Willow' page. Readers can download paperback and Kindle versions of both books at Amazon sites worldwide.

Author Ruth Finnegan To Appear On The Authors Show Through October 12, 2016 To Discuss Her Latest Novel, 'Black Inked Pearl'
Ruth Finnegan OBE is a renowned scholar and celebrated writer who is Emeritus Professor, the Open University, a Fellow of the British Academy, and an Honorary Fellow of Somerville College Oxford
Author Ruth Finnegan is now appearing on The Authors Show. In her recent interview she discussed her latest novel, 'Black Inked Pearl'.
'Black Inked Pearl' is an epic romance about the naive Irish girl Kate and her mysterious lover, whom she rejects in panic and then spends her life seeking. After the opening rejection, Kate recalls her Irish upbringing, her convent education, and her coolly-controlled professional success, before her tsunami-like realisation beside an African river of the emotions she had concealed from herself and that she passionately and consumingly loved the man she had rejected.
Searching for him she visits the kingdom of beasts, a London restaurant, an old people's home, back to the misty Donegal Sea, the heavenly archives, Eden, and hell, where at agonising cost she saves her dying love. They walk together toward heaven, but at the gates he walks past leaving her behind in the dust. The gates close behind him. He in turn searches for her and at last finds her in the dust, but to his fury (and renewed hurt) he is not ecstatically recognised and thanked. And the gates are still shut.
On a secret back way to heaven guided by a little beetle, Kate repeatedly saves her still scornful love, but at the very last, despite Kate's fatal inability with numbers and through an ultimate sacrifice, he saves her from the precipice and they reach heaven. Kate finally realises that although her quest for her love was not in vain, in the end she had to find herself – the unexpected pearl.
The novel, born in dreams, is interlaced with the ambiguity between this world and another, and increasingly becomes more poetic, riddling and dreamlike as the story unfolds. The epilogue alludes to the key themes of the novel – the eternity of love and the ambiguity between dream and reality.
‘Black Inked Pearl’ has received three international prizes and rave reviews from readers and reviewers alike. Scott Neuffer of Forward Reviews stated, "If James Joyce's dream-like opuses were written from a more feminist perspective, they might look something like Ruth Finnegan's Black Inked Pearl, a rapturous fantasia of words and images set somewhere between ancient myth and the green shores of modern Ireland." Chris Fischer, in a Readers Favorite review stated "I just finished reading 'Black Inked Pearl: A Girl's Quest' by author Ruth Finnegan, and all I can say is 'Wow!' It's written in a unique and creative style, one that at times blends poetry with prose ... enviable and beautiful at the same time ... any reader who enjoys a lovely, unique and interesting work of fiction should absolutely read Black Inked Pearl. I will be eagerly awaiting the next offering by author Ruth Finnegan. If it is anything like her debut novel, it will be simply magical!" Kirkus Reviews said, "Kate's romantic quest calls to mind Paradise Lost and Greek mythology as it weaves together biblical allusions, fantasy, and details of the modern day." Like other classic and unusual literary works, the book has given rise to many interpretations and, as Christiana Fatoki perceptively put it, like its more recent prequel ‘Pearl of the Seas,’ it “sinks into your unconscious .”
Ruth Finnegan is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at r.h.finnegan@open.ac.uk. More information is available at www.open.ac.uk/people/rhf2/. The Authors Show interview will be available through October 12, 2016 at http://www.theauthorsshow.com.
About Ruth Finnegan:
Ruth Finnegan OBE is a renowned scholar and celebrated writer who is Emeritus Professor, the Open University, a Fellow of the British Academy, and an Honorary Fellow of Somerville College Oxford. She was born in Derry (on the last day of December 1933) and grew up there and in the remote countryside of Donegal where, as poetically recalled in the second chapter of her novel, ‘Black Inked Pearl’, she spent the war years; went to a literature-imbued Quaker school in York where, a fellow-student with the actress Judi Dench, she learned to read the resonant poetry of Yeats and Shakespeare and to repeat texts that, with others, she had to learn, aloud (a good training for the sonic style of her novels); earned top degrees in classics and anthropology at Oxford; and carried out fieldwork on story-telling in Africa – a revelation of the multi-sensory nature of performance that has affected her all her life, and constantly comes through in her writing. From 1969, apart from three years in the South Pacific island of Fiji, she taught and researched at the pioneering Open University. She is the author of over twenty academic books, several of them prize-winning. She has three daughters (two of them born in Nigeria), five grandchildren (one in New Zealand), and now lives in Old Bletchley, England, with her husband of over 50 years and two loving, impetuous, lovable cairn terriers.

Riveting Love Story During The Apartheid In South Africa Offered By Award Winning Author Kass Ghayouri In 'An Era Of Error'
Kass Ghayouri's writing evokes change through empowerment. Through dramatic imagery she creates visual slides, which connect readers to memorable plots
While many books have been written about apartheid in South Africa, seldom do readers have the opportunity to read a book written by someone who lived in South Africa and experienced firsthand the horrors of apartheid as a child. In addition her book is a riveting love story, the kind of tale from which great movies have been made. Kass Ghayouri's award winning book, 'An Era Of Error' gives readers a glimpse from the inner side of those historical events. The book has been compared to 'Cry, The Beloved Country' by Alan Paton.
Set during the Apartheid era in South Africa, the book is centered on Ghayouri's childhood experiences there during that time. Ghayouri deftly paints a stunning panoramic portrait of the obstacle her characters faced, living in South Africa during the Apartheid era. The reader will experience the brutality of apartheid, as seen through the eyes of a child.
Ghayouri hopes that her book will help bring awareness to the issues surrounding apartheid. She has sent copies of the book to Oprah Winfrey's school in South Africa. Her mother appeared in Winfrey's magazine, 'O', as one of the players on the cricket team formed to empower disadvantaged women and girls. Her mother also met with Nelson Mandela upon his release from prison.
Ghayouri was the first place winner in the '2015 50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading Awards’. In addition, Readers Favorite awarded the book 5 stars. The book has received rave reviews from reviewers and readers alike. A review by Reader's Favorite called the historical fiction novel " . . . a tale that will undoubtedly remind readers of 'Cry, The Beloved Country' by Alan Paton and 'A Dry White Season' by Andre Brink; . . ."
"The movie 'The Promise' is a heart-rending love story that unfolds during the Armenian genocide," Ghayouri stated. "Likewise, 'An Era of Error' features unrequited love, imbedded amidst the brutality of the Apartheid era. During this turbulent era, the most beautiful love story transports the star crossed lovers into a new dimension. It will bring movie goers to tears".
Kass Ghayouri is a prolific writer and has written a number of other books:

Writers Now Make Careers By Spreading Fear Of Muslims Says Frances Fuller, Award Winning Author Of Book About Middle East, 'In Borrowed Houses'
Fuller spent many years in the Middle East. She puts a face on the Middle East many Americans have not yet seen. Her award-winning memoir, 'In Borrowed Houses', gives readers a penetrating glimpse of the Middle East from the inside
Frances Fuller, author of the award winning memoir 'In Borrowed Houses, a true story of love and faith amidst war in Lebanon' says that professional writers are making careers of spreading fear of Middle Easterners, especially Muslims. She identifies Islamophobic accusations as “a serious threat to peace, because nothing will make people fight more quickly, more desperately, than fear.”
Because of the dangers of being misled, she went on to say, “It is imperative that we learn how to be discerning about what we hear and read.” Fuller used a quote from the Middle East Forum website as an example, “… since 2010, 96 individuals have been killed in 19 Islamist terror attacks on American soil. At the same time, nonviolent Islamists exploit our freedoms to undermine from within – slowly chipping away at the rule of law, freedom of expression, free enterprise, and religious pluralism.”
Notice, she said, this common tactic. “A verifiable statement is employed to lead the reader into unfounded and unreasonable accusations.” She urges readers to research the statement with statistics, then question the rest. “For instance, why would non-violent Muslims in our country be at work to undermine such principles as the rule of law and religious pluralism, when these are so vital to their existence as a minority group?"
Ann Coulter has recently proclaimed publically that if Khizr Khan gets his way, we will all be living under sharia law. “The first thing we should wonder is how she could know what Mr. Khan wants. And second, Does she even know what sharia is?” Finally, Fuller wonders, “How many Muslims would it take in a population of more than 300 million to change the law of the land?”
Suggesting that many who warn us about sharia do not know what they are talking about, Fuller then recommends several books that contain pertinent information.
1.'Radical, My Journey Out of Muslim Extremism' by Maajid Nawaz
2.'Who Speaks for Islam?' by John L. Esposito and Dalia Mogahed
3.'The Fear of Islam' by Todd Green
Advising her readers to read widely and think critically, Fuller said, “This is the common citizen’s contribution to peace in our country and the world.”

Selfies Have Now Become An Art Form - Barbara Becker Holstein's New Short Film 'The Truth' Sets The Example
Dr. Holstein's award-winning books, plays and short films offer solutions to problems that impact today's teens and tweens and helps them develop positive self esteem
An article on The Atlantic website entitled 'Selfies Are Art' made a point that is very easy for some of us to overlook - selfies are a form of self expression and can be used to communicate many things, going far beyond merely promoting oneself. Positive Psychologist Barbara Becker Holstein has taken that concept to its logical conclusion.
'The Truth - A Short Film' uses the selfie concept to paint a portrait of a young girl. The new short film shows us how she attempts to deal with life changing problems, concerns, challenges and issues all young girls face. The result is an eye-opening, in-depth exploration of her life, giving viewer the distinct impression that they have been somehow magically embedded into that life. If the selfie concept were be transformed into an art form, 'The Truth' would be the result.
We have a tendency to lump selfies into a genre, rather than seeing the person behind the attempt at communication. As stated in The Atlantic article, "In the process, individual voices get flattened out. Each unique teen girl posting a selfie, regardless of why she does it, becomes the generic 'teen girl.'
"This is not to say that selfies have no common characteristics. Talking about the sociological implications of those characteristics can be fine as long as it's done carefully. For that matter, both Small and Kelly are engaged in a dialog with and about the selfie as genre, just as all artists engage in a dialog with their art form. But recognizing that selfies are a genre is different than saying that selfies have one overarching truth, be it empowerment or degradation. Instead of rushing to put every individual into one box, it would be nice if we could take the time to look at individual selfies as individual selfies—portraits that represent different people, rather than a single, monotonous, multi-headed self."
Dr. Holstein agrees. "This quote from The Atlantic is as relevant today as when it was published three years ago," she stated. "Even more so, as selfies are finally distinguishing themselves as not only individual portraits of different people, but also having the capacities to bring new life to various art forms. In particular, I am interested in the development of selfies as a new form of dramatic presentation in film making.
"Both of my films, 'The Truth' and now in production, 'Secrets' make use of this new dramatic art form. In each film the actresses, Cassidy Terracciano in 'The Truth' and Megan Brown in 'Secrets', have taken the scripts home and used their phones to record selfies of each scene based on my two books, 'The Truth, Diary of a Gutsy Tween' and 'Secrets, Diary of a Gutsy Teen'.
Megan Brown, 14, an aspiring actor and artist who loves exploring the different ways that different human minds interpret art and emotion, now in the middle of recording her scenes in 'Secrets', made several comments on this new art form:
"Because I film by myself and re-watch the videos I take, I make notes on what I should fix or change. The girl has made it easier for me to find out more about myself also."
"It feels more realistic and human. I would love to make one (a short film), once I have a solid plot."
"I don't have a singular favorite scene, but I do enjoy the scenes where the girl admits her insecurities and fears about growing up, because I have those from time to time also."
barbara-holstein-girl1-sept116"As a psychologist and educator I realize how important her remarks are," Dr. Holstein stated. "They indicated that she is having a chance to not only bond more intimately with her character but to learn more about her. She is taking responsibility to make each scene come alive, rather than waiting on the enthusiasm or watchful eye of the director, or even criticism from outside to push her along. She has internalized the scope of the integration that must happen to make a character live and she is making it happen."
"That her favorites reflect the normal insecurities and fears of growing up pleases me again as a professional, as I believe my films are helping the viewer learn more about themselves, whatever their age. And that is in a large part because the two actresses have had a chance to deeper what they give to the screen. It is a win-win for a new form of art,#Selfiesasfilm and for another way to encourage self development, courage and determination in our youngsters."
The short two minute film by Dr. Holstein, 'The Truth, A Short Short Film', premiered at FilmOneFest in July. The film was chosen as an Official Selection in the Chain Film Festival held in Manhattan on August 13, 2016. 'The Truth, a Short Film', a longer 16 minute portrayal of a girl growing up, has been officially selected for the Golden Door International Film Festival to be held in September 2016. The Rahway International Film Festival recently chose the 2 minute version as an Official Selection.
Dr. Holstein's entire body of work is great for parents, grandparents, older siblings and teachers to establish lines of communication with the tweens and teens in their lives. Her books have received numerous awards. A recent review of Dr. Holstein's book, 'Secrets', stated, "This book should ideally be stocked in the home libraries of families with children and in school libraries worldwide."
'The Truth' focuses on how teens communicate their deepest needs. A trailer from her new short film, 'The Truth', an Official Choice of the Garden State Film Festival, is available at www.thetruthforgirls.com. The trailer captures the world of technology and its public nature with the intense needs of a young girl to share her most private and most intimate thoughts, feelings, ideas and secrets.
"In today's world of likes, lols and longing to be seen, noticed, validated, talked about, often by 'friends' only known virtually, where are her deepest thoughts and longings going? Both the trailer, even in 47 seconds and the film 'The Truth, A Short Film' of 16 minutes are great to use to get kids and parents talking about today's social media world that we all live in."
A sequel to 'The Truth', 'Secrets', starring Megan Brown, is currently in production. In the sequel, based on 'Secrets, Diary of a Gutsy Teen', a girl continues to keep both a virtual diary on her cell phone and a paper diary. She is a year older and although she has matured, her longings and her hunger to find a home for her feelings and intense emotions are even stronger.
Dr. Holstein is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at drbarbara@enchantedself.com. All of her books are available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and all other online retailers. More information is available at her website at http://www.TheTruthForGirls.com.

Black Lives Matter In Africa, Too
Mari Serebrov, the author of 'Mama Namibia,' is an award-winning journalist with a passion for history, a meticulous researcher and the literary laureate of the Herero Tribal Authority
Vava Tampa is spot on in his recent CNN commentary in which he questions why black lives matter only if they’re American, says Mari Serebrov, who has extensively researched the first genocide of the 20th century, which took place in German South-West Africa.
The founder of Save the Congo, Tampa points out in his op-ed that the rest of the world is turning a blind eye to the thousands of black people being killed in the Congo and other African countries.
Unfortunately, this isn’t a recent phenomenon. In the height of the 1994 Rwandan genocide, the UN Security Council withdrew all but 270 of its 2,500 peacekeepers from the country. At the same time, Tampa says, the UN beefed up its forces in Bosnia, where the victims were white, sending in an additional 6,500 troops to join the 24,000 already on the ground there.
“I would add another example to Vava’s list of times the Western world has ignored genocides in Africa,” says Serebrov, the author of Mama Namibia, a historical novel based on the true story of a 12-year-old Herero girl who survived the 1904 genocide in German South-West Africa, now modern-day Namibia.
“Between 1904-1908, Germany was responsible for a genocide that wiped out 85 percent of the Herero and half the Nama,” Serebrov says. “And while Germany passed a resolution a few months ago recognizing the 1915 Armenian Massacre in the Ottoman Empire as a genocide, the government has yet to officially admit that German actions in South-West Africa – including a desert death march, forced labor, rape, mass murder, land theft, concentration camps and medical experiments – were genocide.”
The guilt is not Germany’s alone. Twenty-four other countries and the Vatican have recognized the Armenian genocide. But few have even acknowledged the killing of the Herero and Nama, let alone recognized it as genocide – even though the UN’s Whitaker Report classified it in 1985 as one of the earliest genocides of the century.
Pope Francis, who has offered his support for the Black Lives Matter movement in the U.S., is among those who continue to overlook the Herero/Nama genocide. In observing the centennial of the Armenian Massacre last year, the pope erroneously called it the first genocide of the 20th century.
“When no major media immediately pointed out his error, I joined other experts on the Herero genocide and many Africans in taking to social media to raise awareness of what was truly the first genocide,” says Serebrov. “I figured the pope didn’t know about the 1904 genocide, so I sent the facts about it to Vatican Radio.”
But just a few months ago, the pope again called the Armenian genocide the "first of the deplorable series of catastrophes of the past century, made possible by twisted racial, ideological or religious aims that darkened the minds of the tormentors even to the point of planning the annihilation of entire peoples," according to a Vatican news release.
“To paraphrase the pope, one has to wonder what twisted racial or ideological aims make us continue to ignore the extermination of the Herero and Nama in German South-West Africa,” Serebrov says.
“The color of the victims’ skin shouldn’t determine whether the world recognizes a genocide,” she adds. “The blood spilt is always red.”
Serebrov also points out that with each genocide that’s ignored, forgotten or denied, the world grants permission for the next. “Humanity can’t afford to let this cycle continue,” she says.
About Mama Namibia:
Based on the true story of the daughter of a traditional healer, 'Mama Namibia' details the journey of a young girl, Jahohora, as she searches for her family while hiding from the German soldiers. Wasting away in the desert, Jahohora is about to give up her desperate struggle for life when she finds hope in a simple act of kindness from a Jewish doctor serving in the German army.
'Mama Namibia' has received rave reviews. One reader said, "Thank you for writing this book - touching, amazing, wonderful, sad, inspiring . . . a must read and one of the best books I've ever read." Another stated, "This book is a must read for anyone who is interested in history, troubled by its propensity to repeat itself and stunned that this story has never been told to a large audience before. It leaves the reader wondering how many more genocides have been quietly buried in the past."
Serebrov is a meticulous researcher and passionate author. She was named the literary laureate of the Herero Tribal Authority in 2013. She has authored a number of other books, including 'The Life and Times of W.H. Arnold of Arkansas' and a children’s book, 'Jahohora and First Day.' ‘Mama Namibia’ is the first and only work of fiction to be included on Genocide Watch’s list of resources.
In regards to 'Mama Namibia' and the Herero genocide, Serebrov has been interviewed by Al Jazeera, The Namibian, New Era, the Windhoek Observer and other African publications. She appeared on "Good Morning, Namibia" and was interviewed on several national radio programs in Namibia.
She also was recently interviewed for an article on the genocide for 'Down To Earth', a biweekly science and environment journal published by the Centre for Science and Environment, an environmental think tank and advocacy group based out of New Delhi, India.

All of her works, including 'Mama Namibia,' are available at Amazon and other book retailers. More information is available at her website at http://www.mariserebrov.com.

The US Election And A Rapidly Aging World Population - Senior Issues Are Top Priority Says Cynthia Martindale, Author Of 'Graceful Last Chapters'
Martindale is the author of the ultimate guide to caregiving. She helps caregivers chart a clear path through caregiving challenges, options, and eventual heartbreak
The presidential election is slightly more than two months away, and every day there's a steady flow of the candidates' news bites. We've heard a lot about a handful of topics -- terrorism, Hillary's emails, Trump's wall, immigration, the Clinton Foundation, Trump's tweets -- and they seem to repeat every day. One can almost hear the voters shouting, "Where's the beef?" Not only are the major candidates failing to address the traditional areas of concern thoroughly covered in past election years, but they're also completely ignoring new research on trends that will change the face of our global economy.
In May 2015, the McKinsey Global Institute released a book titled 'No Ordinary Disruption: The Four Global Forces Breaking All Trends.' Since the book's publication, writers have peppered business magazines and journals with articles addressing one or more of the four "global forces," and, like the book itself, each article calls for strong political leadership showing how our country can tame a new reality. The changes facing us are enormous:
• the rise of emerging markets
• the accelerating impact of technology on market competition
• the aging world population
• the accelerating flows of trade, capital, people, and data
Yet, our presidential candidates say nothing about recognizing and addressing forces that will change the world.
"All four of the forces McKinsey analyzes are fascinating and troubling, but it's our rapidly aging world population and what to do about it that speaks to my heart," Martindale stated. "Ken Dychtwald, founding CEO of Age Wave, looks at aging statistics and how the numbers will change our world as we know it ('Will the Aging of America be a Triumph or Tragedy?'). He finds five key issues requiring not "partisan" or "bipartisan" politics, but a "transpartisan" approach to solve the problems ahead.
• What is the new age of 'old?'
• The diseases of aging could be the financial and emotional sinkhole into which the 21st century falls
• Averting a new era of mass elder poverty
• Ending ageism
• (Finding) the new purpose of maturity
"Perhaps best of all, Dychtwald provides five or more questions per issue for the candidates to address, revealing their 'level and direction of thinking' on these issues. The questions could also reveal which newscasters or segments of the media are responsive to voter concerns. Although the aging world population is what hit home with me as a writer and Senior Care specialist, three other global forces are also gaining momentum, none of which is being addressed. Where's the news media in all of this? Isn't anyone on either candidate's team paying attention to proactive solutions for new problems in our future?
"It's challenging to imagine 'Graceful Last Chapters' for our loved ones or even for ourselves against the backdrop of our future as painted by the latest research. The next eight years is a critical time for our country to respond in creative and imaginative ways to secure a path toward a stable future."
Cynthia Martindale has written the ultimate guide to caregiving and senior issues. She is an expert in regards to end of life planning and issues that impact seniors.
Cynthia spent much of her career as a sales and marketing director for senior living communities.
Cynthia Martindale is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at cindy@martindalecopywriting.com. 'Graceful Last Chapters: Helping Seniors Who Need More Care' is available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. More information is available at http://www.bookforcaregivers.com.

The Maman Dion Foundation, Founded By Celine Dion's Mother, Chooses Children's Book Author, Dr Nicole, As One Of Top 10 Quebec Women
Dr. Nicole is a best-selling author, based in Quebec, who writes children’s books that educate, inspire and teach valuable life lessons
Multi-award winning Canadian children’s book author Dr. Nicole has been chosen as one of Quebec's Top 10 Women by the Maman Dion Foundation to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Foundation. The Maman Dion Foundation is an educational foundation that provides support to underprivileged children in the form of clothing, eyewear and school supplies. The founder of the organization is Thérèse Tanguay-Dion, known as Maman Dion, a television personality and the mother of Céline Dion.
In the traditions of Walt Disney and Dr. Seuss, Dr. Nicole breathes life into inanimate objects and wildly entertaining characters that engage children in powerful ways. Through parent/child interaction, her works develop a love for reading while helping children develop the most important skill of all - critical thinking. If a child can master the art of critical thinking, nearly everything else falls into place. Sadly, critical thinking is not always taught to young children.
"For three years my editor and I have given children’s books to Céline Dion’s mother," Dr. Nicole stated. "We support Maman Dion’s Foundation to help poor children be well prepared to go to school and I am very proud to support Maman Dion’s mission. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of her Foundation, she will honored 10 women from Quebec who dedicate their lives to helping children and their families. When I was informed that Maman Dion invited me as one of the top 10 Quebec women, I was very happy. It gives me a boost to continue my children’s book author career and to help me do my best to influence their lives in a positive manner."
Dr. Nicole’s books have won numerous awards. 'Parents For Sale', was a Bronze Medal winner in the 2015 Reader's Favorite International Book Awards Contest in the Children - Animals category.
