Dr. Holstein is a Positive Psychologist/filmmaker and originator of a unique Selfie Film concept. She is accepting Selfie Films submissions from the public for the "Selfie Showcase".
Award winning author, selfie filmmaker and positive psychologist Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein's award winning Selfie films have participated in over 80 film festivals and competitions. Her ongoing podcast series has featured both notable influencers, educators and teens who make a difference in the world, covering issues like school shootings, lockdowns, body shaming, bullying and climate change. She is the founder of The Selfie project and the Selfie Showcase.
Dr. Holstein recently created The Selfie Showcase, a new project emerging from The Selfie Project, that allows young people to voice their opinions on subjects that matter to young people. She is now accepting submissions from the public for the "Selfie Showcase" and is actively seeking change-makers and mental health professionals to appear on her monthly video podcast.
The Selfie Showcase allows kids, teens, and young adults ages 13 to 18 to candidly express their concerns, worries, observations and possible solutions by creating selfies or selfie films around important subjects, using a smart phone. A recent article in the Wall Street Journal entitled "The Lonely Burden of Today's Teenage Girls" presented some startling information regarding how social media pressures are causing kids to be more anxious, depressed and solitary. Dr. Holstein's mission is to help rectify, in a number of ways, some of the issues young people face by giving them a chance to engage with others in meaningful ways about the anxiety and stress they must grapple with constantly.
Selected participants may appear on the Selfie Project Channel, available on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3uaOTcYF70z5CpBh11VoUQ. They will also appear in the Selfie Showcase on SelfieFilmmakers.com. They will receive a certificate of merit, and may be invited to be on Holstein's monthly podcast or perhaps be a part of her next film. Full details, rules for submission and helpful hints can be accessed at the Selfie Filmmakers site at http://www.selfiefilmmakers.com/instructions.
"Time and tide wait for no man (or woman or child,” Dr Holstein stated. “However, when we realize that happiness is as close as our next step into life we can do and be amazing people at any age. My visionary work in positive psychology, 'The Enchanted Self' and 'The Selfie Project', are all about reclaiming our potential and living our dreams. 'The Enchanted Self' focuses on our talents, strengths and potential at any age. My pathfinder book: THE ENCHANTED SELF, A Positive Therapy' explains in great detail how to reclaim positive states of being again and again while developing a strong sense of self and living a life of purpose and meaning.
'The Selfie Project' focuses on two aspects of 'Selfies'. One is Selfie Films that inspire and teach resiliency and happiness through drama. I've been making these short Selfie Films for over 4 years now. They are amazing, having won over 80 awards in film festivals and competitions. They allow young actors to do much of their own filming with smart phones, while telling important coming of age stories that open the gates to amazing conversations and feelings about growing up. Several of these films are available to stream at: https://cinecosmos.vhx.tv/search?q=selfie+film."
"Secondly, My podcasts bring you real people who will inspire and influence you. Many of these people are kids, tweens or teen, similar to the kids who might be running around your neighborhood or go to your local school. What you may not realize is that most of my guests are visionaries. They may be the neighbor down the street you didn't realize has a great idea or a famous psychologist or filmmaker. They may be a police officer concerned about school shootings or a professor figuring out ways to save the climate. Kids, tweens and teens on my Podcast shows are also visionaries. They have a lot to say and share and often don't get a big enough chance to go on record. I love that 'The Selfie Project' allows them to not only talk about what is on their minds but to make selfies that further allow their creativity, dramatic abilities or their deep feelings and ideas to come out.
