'Widowhood Happens' — Author Gene K. Garrison Releases Her Third Edition Of The Ultimate Book Of Discovery For Widows, Widowers, And Committed Couples

Originally published by Burning Gate Press under the title 'Widow . . . Or Widow-To-Be?', the book is a detailed and down to earth look at the subject of widowhood, written to encourage people to heighten their awareness and sensitivity to the problems the widowed face. The new edition includes information from a psychologist, lawyer, minister, priest and heads of helpful organizations

Gene K. Garrison has recently released the third edition of 'Widowhood Happens'. The book takes a broad and sweeping look at the subject of widowhood through interviews with widows and widowers from all walks of life. The book goes a step beyond this, as it also includes information from a psychologist, lawyer, minister, priest, and heads of service organizations. The purpose of the new edition is to include a chapter about hospice, an end-of-life haven.

“I wrote 'Widowhood Happens',” stated Ms. Garrison, “because I knew I could do it in a way that others hadn’t. It’s not simply one person’s experience, or one professional viewpoint. It’s much broader than that.”

Ms. Garrison is a versatile writer who hopes to encourage understanding and provide practical help. As with all her books, 'Widowhood Happens' is written in an unpretentious, easy to understand and down to earth style. She wants married people and committed couples to plan for this eventuality. She does not believe this to be a callous point of view. In her eyes it simply makes sense to be prepared, as a death in the family is nearly always fraught with strong emotional reactions. They are enough to deal with at the time. It helps to have decisions about financial matters, wills, and services made in advance.

“I believe readers will benefit from reading this edition,” Ms. Garrison continued, “because knowledge is always helpful. Realizing that life goes on is challenging. It’s a gift worth accepting.”

Gene Garrison is originally from Delaware. After moving from Phoenix to Cave Creek, Arizona to work on the New Dick Van Dyke Show she founded Desert Artists, Inc., a cooperative gallery in the Carefree/Cave Creek area. During this time she started a writing career by freelancing an article to Arizona Magazine, a Sunday supplement to the Arizona Republic. After reading several of her stories, the editor of Carefree Enterprise Magazine offered her a job as feature articles writer. She resigned after 20 years.

Two of her books, 'From Thunder to Breakfast' and the first edition of 'Widowhood Happens' entitled 'Widow . . . Or Widow-To-Be?' were published by traditional publishers. After they reached out-of-print status, she discovered print-on-demand, and got them back into circulation. The next writing project happened because she had photographed javelinas in Cave Creek, so she wrote text to go with the photos and had a children’s nonfiction book about wildlife on the desert, 'Javelina (Have-uh-WHAT?)'. Her next endeavor was a book published by Lulu.com, titled 'There’s Something About Cave Creek (It’s The People'). She has written more than 560 magazine articles on a variety of subjects.

'Widowhood Happens' is available at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, CreateSpace.com, and Kindle.com as well as other online sites and actual bookstores. Ms. Garrison is available for interviews and Skype talks to small groups. She can be reached using the information below or by e-mail at gkgarrison@npgcable.com.

Ms. Garrison was recently chosen to be included in '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading', available at The Authors Show site.

Bill Nerin, Author of 'A Couple Faces Death', Offers Real Hope For Widows And Widowers Who Deal With Grief

There are many who offer advice and tips for dealing with the death of a loved one. Tips and advice fall flat in the face of overwhelming loss. Bill Nerin is a family counselor and author who opened his journey through grief to the world in his latest book 'A Couple Faces Death: My Life After Anne', and demonstrates that there is hope for those who grieve

Loss of a loved one is never a question of 'if' - it is instead a question of 'when'. Death and dying, bereavement and grief are faced by all human beings. That is little comfort for those left behind to grieve. In 'A Couple Faces Death: My Life After Anne', author Bill Nerin does more than offer advice and platitudes - he instead shows us that events such as these can start us on the road to turning loss into love.

"From the day we discovered the melanoma in Anne," stated Nerin, "I returned to my journal writing. I shared some of my entries with close friends. They said, 'Bill, you have got to write a book. This is so helpful to us in thinking about our own dying.' I had no thought about writing a book, but if my friends got so much, perhaps a book could help others. And that is my purpose; that some may benefit by reading the book."

There are many fallacies surrounding the death of a spouse. The need to grieve in solitude, the sense of overwhelming loss - even the belief that widows grieve more than widowers. In 'A Couple Faces Death', Nerin shatters many of these widely held misconceptions. His journal entries demonstrate that we can turn loss into love.

"One of the greatest things we can come to discover," continued Mr. Nerin, "is how, in the very process of losing life, we can achieve a loving that is beyond anything previously experienced. It may lessen our fear of death and the grieving thereafter. Our journey shows how being open, discussing and accepting death as part of life can lead to greater wisdom and peace in the very midst of the sadness. Revealing my feelings, doubts, puzzles and thoughts by sharing my journal entries, will show that men grieve just as intensely as women, and can be open about it to their benefit. There are many concrete ideas that one may want to incorporate in their lives in preparing for death and what follows; for example the imaginative way Anne decided to say her goodbyes to her sons, brother and sister."

Mr. Nerin was recently interviewed on The Authors Show radio. The interview is available on his website. Mr. Nerin is available for speaking engagements and for media interview. He can be contacted using the information below. A Couple Faces Death: My Life After Anne' is available at his website and at Amazon.com. The book includes a DVD of Anne speaking to college students about preparing for her death.

Pat Bluth, Author Of From Pain To Peace, To Speak At St. Thomas By The Sea In Orange Beach, Alabama On February 3, 2010

Author Pat Bluth will discuss grief, bereavement, healing and the journey to forgiveness. Bluth lost her teen daughter at the hands of a drunk driver and shares her story regarding how the death of a child allows rage to be transformed into forgiveness

Pat Bluth, author of From Pain To Peace, will speak at St. Thomas By The Sea Catholic Church in Orange Beach Alabama on February 3, 2010.

Ms. Bluth will share her story regarding how her life changed after the death of her 17 year old daughter at the hands of a drunk driver. She will describe in detail what happened on that night and how it felt to go from planning for a graduation to planning for a funeral. She will also share how she felt victimized by the Criminal Justice system, resulting in her starting a chapter of MADD in her county.

“I wrote this book,” stated Ms. Bluth, “because I believe I have a story to share that offers hope and inspiration to others that have suffered a loss. As a grief counselor, I learned that many people get stuck in their grief, anger, or unresolved feelings. I wanted to share that grief is a process that doesn’t have to control your life forever. Forgiveness was something I thought was impossible after my 17 year old daughter was killed by a drunk driver. I was wrong. My book describes in detail what I did on an 8-day silent retreat to heal. Others can follow this process.”

After the death of her daughter, Ms. Bluth started a MADD chapter inher county. She also attended Compassionate Friends meetings, a support group for parents whose children have died, and began journaling.

“All these things helped,” stated Ms. Bluth, “but I found no lasting peace. Four years later I felt suicidal and called out to God for help. I talked to my priest and at his suggestion I attended an 8 day silent retreat. That was the answer for finding peace.”

Ms. Bluth will share her story at St. Thomas By The Sea Catholic Churchin Orange Beach Alabama on February 3, 2010 at the Parish Hall. Ms. Bluth is available for speaking engagements and interviews and can be contacted using the information below or by email at pat@patbluth.com.

Copies of her book, From Pain To Peace, are available at her website at www.patbluth.com and from most major online booksellers.
