New Memoir From John Drake, Stories From The Big Apple And Beyond, Will Be Available At Amazon At No Charge On November 8, 2021

Drake's stories take us from the Bi-Centennial of 1976 in New York up to the tragic event of 9/11.

John Drake is a painter, a poet and a hopeless romantic who spent many years traveling the globe while working in the movie industry. Anyone who grew up in the 70s or 80s has stories to tell certainly. Drake's experiences however provide for a wildly engaging retelling of raucous adventures that spanned the globe; a book that will resonate deeply with those who grew up during the golden years of rock and roll. Drake takes us from London in the 1950s to America in 2001. His first memoir, The Laughing Man, gives us the first part of that story. Stories From The Big Apple and Beyond picks up the tale in 1976.

The book is a must-read for anyone who has ever lived in New York and for anyone who has traveled and likes to travel. ‘Stories from the Big Apple and Beyond’ is the second memoir from John R Drake. The stories take us from the Bi-Centennial of 1976 in New York up till the tragic event of 9/11. Drake captures the nitty - gritty feel of the “Big Apple” of the “downtown life”- remnants of Bob Dylan’s days and left over’s from the Beat Generation, which has now disappeared forever.

Working in the film business for this period in time, Drake’s book gives us a look into the world of film. Starting as an electrician he works later as a gaffer, then a cinematographer and eventually finds himself directing commercials for a living. As in his other book, his wanderlust takes the reader back to India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Bali and many other places - some for work and other times for the sheer adventure of travel, still trying to keep the freewheeling, fun - loving abandonment of the sixties and seventies alive. The photographs and poems all help to capture the feel of over two and a half decades of the seventies and eighties when the world seemed a saner and more hospitable place to live.

“Socrates said, ‘The unexamined life is not worth living’, Drake stated. “In Tahiti they say, “Eat life or let life eat you.”

Readers and reviewers have praised Stories From The Big Apple. One said, "A fascinating read in which the author John Drake takes us from the mundane normality of suburban Britain to the ridiculous, dizzy days of 70’s and 80’s New York and beyond. Starting out as a junior in the movie business and progressing to Cinematographer, the author leads us through the thrills and spills of those times with yarns overflowing with his personal flavour of charm and wit. His loves, travels and irony (interspersed with poignant poetry), left me yearning for those times once again. Hard to believe so much could be crammed into a single lifetime! It made me ponder just how hollow our lives have become and what great adventures pass us by. John, certainly took life by the horns and went for it."

John Drake is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at humanitybyjohn51@gmail.com. Stories From The Big Apple is available in e-book and print formats at Amazon. It will be available on Amazon at no charge on November 8, 2021. About John Drake:

John Drake was born in London in the 1950s. He started his career in a photographic darkroom and went on to become a photographer in London. After much traveling throughout Europe and India he found himself in New York, after taking a freighter from England to Jamaica (these adventures can be found in his first memoir called THE LAUGHING MAN).

After settling in Manhattan (The Big Apple) he began a new career in the film business, and after a few years was working as a Director of Photography on feature films and commercials. In 1987 John moved to California where he worked as a director/cameraman for various companies in the United States and Europe.

Around 1998 he found a new Love in painting, and after a couple of gallery openings of his work now has over 600 paintings to his name. In the same year he had a photo exhibit of his still photographs on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles.

In 1999 John moved to Vancouver to continue working in film, but still keeps a place in Santa Monica. In 2004, he went to India to shoot a Bollywood film called 'My Faraway Bride'.

He still continues his nomadic gypsy lifestyle and lives in Mexico for half of the year, coming and going between Mexico, California and Vancouver.

In 2016, he compiled this memoir, “Stories From The Big Apple And Beyond” from writings and diaries from his life in Manhattan and Woodstock during the Seventies and Eighties and also stories of his adventures traveling once again through India and South-East Asia. The story ends on 9/11 when there in New York for a job, John witnesses the attack on the World Trade Towers.

Local Artist Trenna Daniells, 'Painter of Journeys', Debuts at the St. Julien Hotel in Boulder Colorado July 3, 2015

Trenna’s painting career spans many genres, forms and locations, which have been brought to life in her work with Fine Art Galleries across the US. Her commercial work includes private commissions and outfitting entire resorts

Artist Trenna Daniells announced that she has been selected as the summer artist for the St. Julien Hotel and Spa in Boulder, CO. Her work will debut at the hotel on July 3, 2015. Over 40 original paintings will be on display and for sale through the end of September. Her Colorado themed work is representational in style. The show will feature landscapes and wildlife from the surrounding area. She also will be including a few of her Italian travel pieces.

"I really love doing private commissions and have developed a unique ability to paint places that my clients have visited. Now days it seems our memories of special travels get stuck on an electronic drive or in photo albums. I thoroughly get pleasure from painting a special travel experience that enables the client to relive that memory again.”

Trenna is a 'Painter of Journeys'. If there is a particular reaction to traveling to exotic places, it must be the traveler’s desire to bring it home.  And share it.  She specializes in private commissions for clients who wish to bring their travels to life in paintings that will then hang in their homes and evoke memories of their cherished travel adventures. Trenna's unique paintings allow clients to share those memories every day with everyone who might enter a home, office or other public space.

"My paintings first live in the imagination at the end of my brush," Trenna stated. "They are stories in which I don’t know the ending until they are completed. I create something that never existed before. I can use my inspiration to evoke a feeling in another living being. I can communicate with color, hue, light, shadow and texture.  I can speak heart-to-heart with another person without ever uttering a word, without ever seeing or touching that person, without ever meeting them.   It’s powerful, and it makes my heart sing."

Trenna Daniells' body of work is impressive. Her work includes, but is not limited to:

About Trenna Daniells:

Trenna began her journey into art in high school and college in the Pacific Northwest.  She continually won awards for her involvement in the arts, which often led to painting giant murals and backdrops for the school plays.  She won awards for the Art and Music programs at Mt Hood College. She studied with famed Navajo Shaman and artist David “Chetlehe” Paladin in Prescott Arizona.  His artistic techniques and spiritual teaching still touch her and influence her work today.

Her philosophical nature and motherhood sparked a need to write and for several years Trenna painted with words and developed a series of self-responsibility adventure stories for children.  Her return to her studies at the UCLA Design School in California in 1989 brought back to life the roots and the longing to return to her art.  It seemed to be very natural to apply architectural insights to creating a series of tropical fantasy island huts and a series of greeting cards.  Her work was soon appearing in Aloha Airlines, Artists of Hawaii, and hanging in the Collectors Galleries on Maui and Kauai pastels for their hotel in Las Vegas.   Her work hangs numerous resorts around the world including Sandals Resort on Negril Beach in Jamaica.

Safaris to Africa kindled her intense desire to paint endangered wildlife.  On top of a canvas richly inlaid with gold leaf and natural pigments she combines ancient symbols and exotic birds and animals.  In Trenna's paintings the animals speak volumes with their eyes and are often found in their natural habitat contrast against the rich treatment of gold.  She is a featured artist in the “Best of Wildlife” edition from North Light Books.

Trenna is currently living at Lake Valley in North Boulder and is “Romancing the Rockies". With it’s rich history and scenic beauty she finds The Rockies a constant source of inspiration. She participates in shows at the Rembrandt Yard Gallery, The Open Art Studio Tour, Colorado Horse Rescue Events, Boulder Humane Society and will be the featured artist of the summer at the 5 Star St Julien Hotel in Boulder Colorado.

Her works hang in homes from Aspen, Boulder, Vail, Beaver Creek and the Hawaiian Islands.

Artist With Cerebral Palsy Who Paints Remarkable Acrylic Masterpieces To Be Featured At Tobii Dynavox

Joshua Englehaupt has turned a disability into an ability at a level that can only be called breathtaking

Joshua Englehaupt is an artist whose medium is acrylics. While his work may defy description, the talent he brings to the canvas is undeniable. What is even more remarkable is the fact that his work is produced by a team effort. He is half the team at OurHome Studio. His mother, author Carol Englehaupt, is the other half of the team. Carol assists Josh by holding up his arm when he paints. Joshua provides inspiration for his mother's work as an author. It is a match 'made in Heaven' for both Carol and Joshua.

"Josh isn’t an independent painter," Carol stated. "He needs my help in getting his painting ready. I load and clean brushes for him. I place the brush in his hand and support his elbow. The brush strokes are his. The composition and colors are his. He has a far better sense of color than I do. We use a big color chart to help him decide on colors and to communicate to me what he wants."

"I was taking a watercolor art course, when Josh let me know that he wanted to paint too. Without thinking, I gave him paper and paints and let him finger paint. This lasted about three pictures. Josh got angry. He kicked his foot and kept looking at the paintbrush in my hand. He wanted to paint with a brush. I did what I always do when Josh wants to do something. I figured out a way for him to do it. His grip was poor. I’d have to curl his fingers around the brush and help him hang onto it. This wasn’t what Josh wanted so I started to think of ways to help him. I mentioned to my husband one evening, 'If only paintbrushes came with handles like screwdrivers.' He gave me a look, got up from his chair and disappeared into the garage. He came back with a couple of screwdriver handles with brushes inserted. These were the first brushes that Josh used. The handles were big enough that he could get a grip on them."

Joshua Englehaupt was born April 3, 1980. Birth trauma resulted in Joshua being diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. He attended Easter Seal until the age of seven at which time testing became available that gave a more accurate assessment of his I.Q. His diagnosis was updated to multi-physically disabled with normal intelligence. As a result of this testing, Josh was able to leave Easter Seals and attend public schools. The travel was simply too much for Joshua to handle. Home schooling became the only reasonable choice.

The other half of the team, Carol Englehaupt, is both an artist and a published author. She learned early that normal doesn’t exist. Her stories reflect an unconventional outlook on life that fires the imagination, inspires the reader, and delivers a dose of unexpected humor. A multi genre author who writes under the pen name C.L. Roth, she delivers fast-paced, imaginative stories with enough unusual twists to please readers of any age.

Carol's works include 'Cosmic Shift', 'Cosmic Chaos' and 'Bone Weary'. 'Cosmic Shift' is a fantasy for kids geared to Middle School readers but also enjoyable for all ages. 'Cosmic Chaos' is written for middle grade kids and young adults. Carol's latest work, 'Bone Weary', is an adult mystery full of heart and humor that features a caregiver protagonist, drawing on her own experiences with Joshua.

"My goal as an author," Carol stated, "is to tell a story that intrigues the mind, entertains the reader, and takes root in the heart. I strive to write fast-paced books that deliver action, humor, and unexpected twists that are suitable for all ages to read."

Joshua's work has been drawing a great deal of public attention and several of Joshua's prints will be displayed at Tobii Dynavox in Pittsburgh, PA.

"Josh and I are just beginning this artistic journey," Carol concluded. "I have no idea where the path will lead. I only know we are enjoying every step of the journey."

Carol Englehaupt is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at carolenglehaupt@gmail.com More information on Joshua's work is available at http://www.ourhomestudio.com. More information on Carol's work is available at http://www.clroth.com.
