Great Dialogue And Important Questions From Audiences Offered By Top Motivational Speaker And Bestselling Author Rocky Romanella

Renowned as a keynote speaker, trainer, and Forbes Contributor, Romanella founded 3SIXTY Management Services, LLC. With 40+ years in leadership, he served as CEO and Director at UniTek Global Services after a 36-year UPS career.

As a top keynote speaker, Rocky Romanella spends a good deal of time speaking to groups of people, large and small, most of whom hope to take away actionable ideas regarding leadership. Balanced Leadership is an umbrella term that encompasses all the skills necessary to achieve excellence in all facets of one's life, both business and personal. In a recent newsletter, Romanella shared some important questions posed to him by audience members in his recent keynote addresses:

Tell me about your definition of SUCCESS and a Successful Leader.

I believe the definition of success can be summarized in a person who can add immediate value as a leader, trusted advisor, mentor, and visionary who has a process approach.

As an organization you have a strategic vision, as an individual you also need a strategic vision, but you also need the ability to execute tactically the strategy. In these leadership roles you must develop a strategy, build a business plan, and execute that plan.

You do this by providing clear communication and walking the talk. A successful leader will coach their teams to take better control of their day and balance multiple priorities, measuring and following up for continuous improvement, and accepting responsibility for their P&L. A successful leader must have the ability to assess quickly and effectively:

• who you are
• what you stand for, and
• what you will never compromise

More importantly, a leader’s strategy and vision must match the organization’s vision and strategy, and how it corresponds to what your people, your customers and investors believe to be your strategy and the company’s strategy and vision. Companies need to deliver advanced technologies with operational excellence through their dedicated people who are the best, brightest, most informed, and best educated in their industry.

What are your thoughts on education both formal and informal?

I believe people learn most things through the environment they are in, the experiences they have, and the people they engage with. I do not believe I was born with something special that made me better than others or gave me a leg up.

I am of the opinion that our values and skills are actively developed and are influenced by both the positive and negative experiences in our lives and utilized or can remain dormant depending on our desires and motivation. Success is an individual thing and each of us has our own measure of success and desire for success.

For example, I had a simple education, Catholic grammar school, public High School, Catholic college that was a commuter college as I worked my way through school. This ability to get good grades and work during college helped me to learn how to multi-task. A lesson and experience I had to use throughout my career.

Most learning came from experiences throughout my life and key leaders who touched me in good and sometimes less then desirable ways that I had to work through.

Do you have any quotes you live by or think of often?

Yes, there are a few that have become 'Rockyisms'

• Never allow anyone to affect you more than you can affect yourself.
• You are the architect of your own destiny.
• The Speed of the Leader Determines the Pace of the Pack…. Set the pace
• Sometimes we Lead, Sometimes we Follow and Sometimes we go where they need us to go.

Top Motivational Speaker Rocky Romanella Discusses The Importance Of Legacy In Building Out Our Leadership Roles

Renowned as a keynote speaker, trainer, and Forbes Contributor, Romanella founded 3SIXTY Management Services, LLC. With 40+ years in leadership, he served as CEO and Director at UniTek Global Services after a 36-year UPS career.

Leadership is a multi-faceted concept. It is not an exclusive trait, reserved for certain individuals in business, government, or civic organizations. Top motivational speaker and author of the bestselling business book, 'Tighten The Lug Nuts' recently posted an article in his newsletter that addressed this topic. In that article, titled 'Always Be Humble And Kind', he wrote in part:

Leadership is something we all have concerns about. Leadership is a concept that is not reserved for or only applies to certain people in business, government, and civic organizations. The reality is that no matter our age, gender, occupation, educational level, each of us touches and influences other lives.

Through this extension, we are all leaders to someone at some time. It can be a person under our supervision or care, a spouse we honor and live with, or a child we nurture, a student we teach, or a player we coach. It could be as simple as a fellow member of our church or religious affiliation, club, league, or association, but it is usually identified by the fact we have made a positive difference through our actions and examples.

With this sense of responsibility and being lifelong learners, we are constantly in pursuit of knowledge, whether written or experienced, of how to be a good leader and how to improve our skills. We take great pride in the books we have read and where they sit on the best-seller list. I often find that some of the best examples and learning experiences come from the stories we tell and the experiences we share. Sometimes they come from the stories we learned as children or read to our children as parents or grandparents, or a song we love to sing.

Leaders must develop emotional intelligence along with their educational intelligence and business acumen. Sometimes a simple story I find can help people see the bigger picture, promote moral and ethical behavior, and maybe, just maybe, not take ourselves so seriously that we lose sight of the fact that it is not always about us and be open to learning in creative and unusual ways.

For me, I just had one of those moments. We all have listened to songs over the years that you love and know the words to. Even though you know the words and story of how and why it was written, ever now and then the song catches you in a vulnerable moment. The song you know and love becomes an AHA moment, a self-reflective moment that challenges your emotional intelligence.

For me, this just happened with a song I love listening to and enjoy the words. It is by Samuel Timothy McGraw “Tim McGraw” (born May 1, 1967), who is an American country singer and actor. He has released 16 studio albums. 10 of those albums have reached number one on the Top Country Albums charts, with his 1994 breakthrough album Not a Moment Too Soon being the top country album of 1994. In total, McGraw's albums have produced 65 singles, 25 of which have reached number one on the Hot Country Songs or Country Airplay charts.

My favorite song of his, and the one I would like to reference is “Humble and Kind.” Although I have sung the song more times than I can count and love his work, this time in a quiet moment I thought what a great inventory of a person’s leadership style, approach, values, and ethics. We all need that introspective, soul-searching, reflective view of ourselves.

The words are powerful but simple and basic. Here are some of the lyrics that moved me and created my AHA moment.

Hold the door, say please, say thank you
Don't steal, don't cheat, and don't lie
I know you got mountains to climb but
Always stay humble and kind
When the dreams you're dreamin' come to you
When the work you put in is realized
Let yourself feel the pride but
Always stay humble and kind

Don't expect a free ride from no one
Don't hold a grudge or a chip and here's why
Bitterness keeps you from flyin'
Always stay humble and kind

The central message for me at that AHA moment was Legacy.

What is your Legacy as a Leader?

As a leader, we grow and develop, take on new challenges or simply move into a new phase of our life, we will be faced with complications and adversity that may set us back. Honesty, perseverance, and trustworthiness will become major factors in overcoming these obstacles and creating our personal brand and our legacy. Along the way, you come to a decision point or stage gate. Our choice is simple but profound in each instance, but a decision must be made.

Our choices are LEAD, FOLLOW, or GET OUT OF THE WAY. If you choose to lead, you will need to be an honest and trusted leader to establish your vision, mission, and values so that those in your care or supervision will trust you enough to follow. As a lifelong learner, you are constantly forging a path to transform yourself into a high-character, high-performance leader. You will never be without challenges both in life and business. But if you are focused and ready to face these complex business challenges and personal changes with discipline, determination, honesty of purpose, and in an ethical manner, you will be successful.

Missing Woman Speaks To Investigator In Lucid Dreams - Journalist Presumed Dead. Or Is She?

New Novel Explores Possibility of Life After Death, Extends Best-Selling Milford-Haven series into Paranormal Genre

Can a journalist haunt her own life? Can a person be living life with no clue she’s actually passed on? Can she make herself heard by someone who’s still alive?

These are among the key questions posed by best-selling author Mara Purl in her new book, What the Soul Suspects. The story tracks the progress of Christine Christian, a character who suffers memory loss from a minor head injury. Yet as the tale continues, Christine’s ongoing disorientation leads to more confusion.

She meets with investigator Deputy Delmar Johnson of the SLO County Sheriff’s Department, thinking they’re working the same case from two angles. He, however, is investigating her disappearance, and the “meeting” takes place in a lucid dream.

Both the journalist and the investigator are in for major shocks.

When author Mara Purl launched her novel series, it began with two protagonists: artist Miranda Jones, and journalist Christine Christian. But during the prologue—even before Chapter 1 began— Christine met with an accident. Following a lead in pursuit of an important story, she took a nasty fall and was never heard from again.

The narrative then follows painter Miranda Jones. Faced with a difficult life choices, Miranda follows her heart, using her intuition—even when it seems to be leading her away from parental advice, comfort and success. But Miranda’s story—which has legions of followers in the Women’s Fiction genre—leads to adventure, success, and eventually, personal happiness.

“Thematically both characters are of key importance to the series,” Purl commented. “Miranda represents ‘heart’—intuition becoming a reliable guidance system. Each book in the series has the word ‘heart’ in the title. But in the background, there was the question: what about logic? Christine represents the ‘head’— logic overriding intuition, stubborn resolve suppressing warning signals. And there will be more books focused on Christine as the series continues.”

The series now has six novels following the progress and adventures of Miranda and several other characters. And although an investigator had nominally reviewed the case of the missing journalist, her case has gone cold. No body has ever been discovered, and Ms. Christian often traveled internationally for extended periods.

"It was time to get back to Christine," Purl confirmed. "She's a character with a rich background that’s mostly been unexplored until now. She’s had many adventures that will be explored in some upcoming flashback stories. But first, we needed to see where she is now.”

The result is a tale that’s “spooky . . . with wisdom,” as one reader put it. “The story takes Christine on a breathtakingly beautiful journey to four lighthouses in California’s sumptuous Central Coast,” explained the author. “These visits offer guidance and inspiration, and yet they’re rather terrifying at times.”

Book reviewer and host of The Authors Show Linda Thompson wrote: “Mara Purl is a master at drawing you into a story and keeping you in it until the very last page.”

Reader comments:

"I LOVE this book! Spooky stuff told in a very provocative way . . . with wisdom! It's a wonderful book, so rich and nuanced with exploration of time, space, mind-states and special sensitivities. Much as I've enjoyed Mara Purl's writing in the past, there's something really special about this book that sparkles with conviction, mystery and beauty. There is something so elegant and inviting in this prose . . . really magical! It's not just the substance of the story but also the way it's being told. We're really there with Chris . . . as she drives through the Central Coast. I'm swept up into her world. It captivated me!" – Marilyn Harris, Singer, Songwriter, Composer

"Cool ghost story with two compelling characters, lots of real-world and metaphysical intrigue and even a dose of Laura Nyro. What’s not to like! I found the prose style to be precise and painstakingly visual. The overall atmosphere of the narrative, almost a third major character, also comes to life effectively, as do the lighthouses and spiritual Native American influences, and the notion, at the end, of Chris actually teaming up with Del from the Afterlife to catch her murderer is quite provocative. Purl's imagination and craft keep getting better and better." – Mark Kudlow, screenwriter

“The voices and personalities are clear and well crafted. The plot unfolds with just the right amount of mystery and strangeness, but never too bizarre as to be unbelieveable. I was yearning for more...thus showing me that it was very compelling from beginning to end. I kept thinking ‘great insight’, ‘very wise’, or ‘aha!’ as I read. I love learning new things in a story!” – Laurie Jameson, WILLA Award-winning author

“The book is so intriguing and very good! It was so fun to read about an area that I actually lived in. I think you described it beautifully and I felt as if I was there once again.” – Antoinette Burns

For her Milford-Haven Novels, Mara was named 2019 Top Female Author for Fiction by the Authors Show To date, her book series has won more than 40 book awards, and has topped multiple best-seller lists on both Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Her novels, novellas and novelettes with their gorgeous watercolor book covers and engaging mix of romance and mystery are sought after by her mostly female readers, where Mara has become a trail blazer for both Women’s Fiction and Small Town fiction.

About Mara Purl:

Mara Purl, who has appeared on stage and on-camera since childhood, played the recurring character “Darla Cook” on NBC’s “Days of Our Lives.” She then founded a production company and created “Milford-Haven U.S.A.”, a serial drama loosely based upon Cambria. The show, co-starring a well-known L.A. based cast including Erin Gray, Linda Purl, Ed Begley, Jr., Michael Horse, and several others, became the first American radio drama to air on BBC radio, where it enjoyed a following of 4.5 million listeners. Purl’s story later came to the attention of New York publishers, who began publishing her novel series in hardcover in 2011. Since then, Book one “What the Heart Knows” and book two “Where the Heart Lives” have both become national best-sellers, as have her novellas, “When Hummers Dream” and “When Whales Watch.” and her latest, “When Otters Play”. Her Milford-Haven saga has won more than 30 book awards.

Mara has an on-line following of 17 million when she does her blog tours. She is a frequent guest on radio talk shows, and also speaks for the American Heart Association, for women’s organizations, for writers’ conferences and for colleges and universities. Mara and her books have a large following nationally and particularly in California. Along with her work as an author, speaker and performer, she consults on other authors’ book projects.

Rebooting A Relationship Through The Magic Of Inner Wisdom - New Podcast Drama On Facebook Live July 27, 2020 By Selfie Filmmaker Barbara Becker Holstein

The presentation, 'Life Is Complicated', will take place on Monday, July 27, 2020 at 8pm EDT on Facebook.

Multi award winning Selfie Filmmaker Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein has announced a new podcast drama to be presented live July 27 2020 at 8pm EDT on Facebook. Actors in the drama, entitled 'Life Is Complicated' include Francesco Nuzzi, Tara London, Cris Brown, Megan Brown, Dawn Gaylardo, and Michael D'Emidio.

"Everyone knows the expression, when you are given lemons, make lemonade," Dr. Holstein stated. "The truth is most of us got a good dose of lemons by early March, 2020.  The pandemic meant that the film I was planning for June or early July had to be shelved. Or did it? The plot had been  roughly laid out over several months of brainstorming, most of the cast had been chosen, mmmm, what to do? I had a middle of the night Aha about two weeks into the pandemic. Why not make a radio drama out of 'Life is Complicated' instead? We had almost all the ingredients.  We needed a script that fit an audio presentation. We needed a studio where we could all meet on a zoom platform and we needed one more cast member. DONE.

"By May we were into our first rehearsals. Ming Chen, one of the owners of A Shared Universe PodCast studio came to the rescue with the studio and the zoom platform. Cast was complete and so was the script. And now, on July 27th, 2020 we will go live on Facebook at 8:00 pm, EDT. On Facebook you can see and listen to 'Life is Complicated' on my Facebook address: Barbara Becker Holstein. Then it will be available on many podcast platforms, Vimeo and more film platforms. The truth is the 'radio drama' lends itself to both audio and  visual/audio presentation.

"Perhaps before the pandemic that wouldn't have been so, but now we have gotten used to Zoom presentations of everything from dance to music to news and to drama. 'Life is Complicated' is about a couple facing divorce. It is about how important it always is to find ourselves, particularly our strengths and wisdom, again and again. It is about relationships and how complicated they can be.

"The main character, the wife played by Tara London, has been the central character of my books, The Truth, Diary of a Gutsy Tween, and Secrets, Diary of a Selfie Teen, all my selfie films which have been selected or won awards in over 90 film festivals, a play, 'The Locket', and now 'Life is Complicated'.  She keeps reappearing, in this drama as a woman in her 30's, because it is the wise girl inside of herself that comes to help save the day.

"I hope you enjoy 'Life is Complicated'. As a positive psychologist I have used drama, the written word, and the use of selfies as a film technique to teach the public how to pull energy and wisdom from themselves and to never give up.

"The cast includes: Francesco Nuzzi, Tara London, Cris Brown, Megan Brown, Dawn Gaylardo, and Michael D'Emidio. Debbie Stolz Higgins is the Producer and Commentator, Francesco Nuzzi, is the script writer, I'm the originator of the characters and plot and the director. Wayne Olivieti composed the music."

The presentation will take place on Facebook on the Barbara Becker Holstein page at 8pm on Monday, July 27, 2020 at 8pm EDT.

Dr. Holstein's unique Selfie Films have taken many awards and have been shown in many film festivals and competitions. Most notable among these are:

The Selfie Project - Accepted at 20 film festivals or film competitions

Conflict and A Bit Of Magic: A Coming Of Age Selfie Film - Accepted at 19 film festivals or film competitions

Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction: A Coming of Age Selfie Film - Accepted at 16 film festivals or film competitions. Also, the song ‘Truths Change and Still Remain’ won an award at the Florence film Festival.

Have We Lost Our Children To Technology?

Today many parents and grandparents feel completely out of touch with the younger generations. Parent and grandparents are responsible for passing on core values and life experiences to their children and grandchildren. This is very difficult in the modern age of cellphone and computer technology. One company is taking dramatic steps to help assure those values are not lost and is using technology to help parent and grandparents connect with children

Cellphones, texting, DVD's and computer games have become a way of life for most young people. For many children exposure to such technology now starts at the elementary grade levels - perhaps even earlier. Not surprisingly many people blame the current rash of school violence, bullying, child suicides, dropout rates, attention deficit disorders and the loss of traditional values squarely on this technology and all it brings with it. Unfortunately many parents and grandparents feel left out and left behind, unable to connect in a meaningful way with young people. Many parents and grandparents watch helplessly while others simply throw up their hands, unable to understand what is going on.

Bedtime stories, fairy tales and books were once core activities in regards to connecting with children, but much of that precious one-on-one communication has been lost as technology has taken center stage. Trenna Daniells believes that technology can instead actually enhance communication. Ms. Daniells, CEO of One To Grow On Audio Series, has created a full line of tools that will allow parents and grandparents to reconnect with their children and grandchildren in a meaningful way and will serve as door-openers to discussions about those core values and issues.

"I know I don’t stand alone," stated Ms. Daniells, "in the outlook that our children are losing touch with the core values of their parents and grandparents. Unfortunately many of the values that children are formulating today are not providing them with the foundation they need to become functioning, well-adjusted, responsibly independent adults. As parents and grandparents we need to actively instill good values and promote strong family bonds. I think we all remember the wonder, magic and value of bedtime stories. By sharing stories in which characters survive and prosper while facing adversity and challenges, it helps children to understand that they will survive too. By sharing these stories in a format in which children have a natural affinity, we not only open the channel of communication and reconnect, we allow young minds to engage their creative imaginations! Sounds like a good old fashioned storybook to me."

These award winning bedtimes stories form a series of highly entertaining adventures, filled with engaging music and sound effects, that help children cope with growing up. The ideals and values imparted are time-tested, and the stories are delivered in a way that children get the message.

"As our lifestyles change," she continued, "and more families have both parents working outside the home, grandparents are more actively involved in rearing grand kids. It becomes incredibly important to reinforce and reestablish strong family ties. We must approach our child-rearing with a new and different spirit. We must create a family atmosphere that doesn’t center on passive activities such as watching videos, TV and playing video games. I can’t overly stress the importance of building this kind of foundation and it is never too early or too late to start. Stories open a door of communication where children are more comfortable to talk about situations in which they are having difficulty coping. Audio stories open that magical world where we can realize we all create our own life's story."

The One To Grow On Audio Series has won numerous awards and has been recognized by some of the country's most prestigious childrens organizations. The series was awarded the Seal of Approval by the National Parenting Center. Creative Child Magazine gave the series the 2010 CD of the Year award. The series was named among the best in family-friendly media, products and serves by the Mom's Choice Awards. 'Exercising Good Relationships' received Dr. Toy's Best Children's Vacation Products Award in 2010.
