Davis' best selling book serves as a devotional for women, a devotional for men and as a Bible study guide.
Bestselling author Silvia Davis has announced that her latest Christian devotional / Bible study guide, 'Living A Parable: Finding Lessons in Unlikely Experiences,' has earned a Christian Indie Award in the Best Devotional category.
According to the organization's website, "The Christian Indie Awards honor outstanding Christian books by independent authors and small publishers . . . Founded in 2008 by Christian Small Publishers Association, the awards were previously known as the Christian Small Publisher Book of the Year Award. Growing over the course of ten years from a humble four categories, these awards now encompass 14 different categories, with more on the way. In 2017, the name was changed to Christian Indie Awards to better embrace the evolving face of publishing."
"Winning this award was a surprise, an honor, and a testimony to what can happen when you put your faith in God and trust Him,” Davis stated. “I've been amazed by how well-received the book has been in such a short time. The phone calls, texts, and messages from those who have read it sharing with me their own childhood memories have made me laugh and hearing how the messages have touched them and made them think, have humbled me in ways I couldn't have imagined. I can't wait to see what the future holds for the book and now the podcast!"
Davis also announced a new podcast, also titled, 'Living a Parable', available on popular streaming services such as Apple, Amazon, and Spotify. This light-hearted but soul-searching podcast is based on the award-winning book. Every day presents us with opportunities to learn valuable lessons. This podcast aims to demonstrate that God is always teaching and if we just take a moment to scratch beneath the surface of the seemingly mundane occurrences we might just find a deeper meaning.
Weekly episodes of the new broadcast are available at https://livingaparable.buzzsprout.com/.
'Living A Parable' is set apart from other Christian Devotionals and Bible studies as, in Davis' opinion, God can use anything, including your annoying siblings, to get His point across. Every day presents us with opportunities to learn and grow.
Devotion to God, scripture references to study from the Bible, and lessons rooted in the Word, are where the similarities between Living a Parable and most other devotionals end. There is no daily reading plan or several made-up analogies that are used to bring forth the truth. 'Living a Parable: Finding Lessons in Unlikely Experiences', is rather a testimony to how God uses life to teach us. Composed of several short and entertaining stories, 'Living a Parable' is a compilation of real-world experiences from the author's life that will undoubtedly make you laugh and take you down your own memory lane.
If you pay attention and listen for God's voice, it becomes easier to see how He uses everyday experiences as opportunities for you to learn. Through an inspiring collection of life lessons, Silvia shares uplifting true stories and the powerful truths God has taught her through these stories. With spiritual wisdom, engaging devotionals, and encouraging parables, Living a Parable: Finding Lessons in Unlikely Experiences reveals the everyday lessons that God teaches us through our own life stories.
Silvia's accounts of growing up with her siblings will take you back to your childhood, and the lessons shared from what she's learned through marriage and parenting will inspire you as you follow along with included scripture references for Bible study and chapter-ending calls to action.
Readers and reviewers alike have praised 'Living A Parable'. BookLife Reviews, sponsored by Publishers Weekly, stated, "A nostalgic portrayal of a Black Christian family and a call to prioritize worship, this guide extols the virtue of active devotion."
Another said, ". . . Although the book is an easy read I found myself taking my time reading it. I wanted to let the authors words sink in. At times, I felt as if God was speaking to me through the words on the pages. We all go through things in our lives and the author has touched on many different trials in life that we all have gone through or are going through. This is definitely a book that I know I will find myself going back to over and over again." Another stated, " I found myself reading a chapter and putting the lesson in the context of my own life, seeing how God has worked in my and my experiences to teach me and others these lessons as well. It's an excellent read, and a wonderful way to be given more Bible knowledge."
The best Christian books help us hear the voice of God more clearly. 'Living A Parable' can serve as a Bible study guide and a devotional for both men and women, serving up a healthy dose of laughter while doing so.
