Author Patricia Gambarelli Releases New Cookbook, ‘The Four Seasons Of Gourmet Entertaining - With The World At Your Table’

Author Patricia Gambarelli is proud to announce the release of her newest book, ‘The Four Seasons of Gourmet Entertaining’. This marvelous new cookbook includes culinary creations from around the globe – America, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Greece and Thailand. Patricia Gambarelli’s experience is as varied as it is extensive. As Food and Wine Editor for the Brunswick Beacon in Shallotte, NC, she wrote the weekly 'Let's Cook' column for four years and wrote a monthly column for four years for Gold Coast Gazette in Glen Cove, NY, reviewing New York City and Long Island restaurants. Patricia was a cooking school owner and instructor for eleven years and taught four-week sessions of classical Italian cuisine, including appetizers, meat, fish, poultry, vegetables, salad and dessert. She has conducted one-day workshops that included pasta/sauces, breads, and holiday desserts to private groups, corporate and individual classes. Guest instructors included Mary Beth Clark, Owner of International School of Food and Wine in Bologna, Italy, and Markus Farbinger, former Pastry Chef at Le Cirque and Pastry Department Head at Culinary Institute of America.

She also served as Culinary Director of Long Island Wine & Food Society, Assistant Coordinator of Special Events where she created and conducted cooking workshops and wine classes. She was a Faculty Member at Great Neck School of Continuing Education and was a Guest Chef/Instructor at Macy’s Marketplace and A&S in Long Island, NY.

Patricia is also the creator and coordinator of the Gourmet Group at Sea Trail Resort in Sunset Beach, NC, now in its fifteenth year. “We have dined together, laughed together (and sometimes complained together), drank wine together, all the while having fun through the magic of food.”

Patricia Gambarelli is an accomplished culinary writer and teacher. Though she started out in the field of chemistry, Pat switched career paths to satisfy a desire to teach as well as to indulge her passion for her Italian heritage. She taught cooking classes for eleven years, which was the motivation for her first book, Pasta for Men Only. She served as Food and Wine Editor for Long Island and North Carolina newspapers. Patricia served on the Board of Directors for the New York Association of Cooking Teachers, was a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals, and has studied under master chefs, including Guliano Bugialli and Marcella Hazan. She also served as Culinary Director for the Long Island Wine and Food Society, and participated in several projects for the James Beard Foundation. After moving to North Carolina, she enjoyed organizing and directing the Sea Trail Gourmet Club, which involved the complex scheduling of over 120 members. Richard DuRose, Author Of ‘Shooting Star’, Chosen To Be Exhibiting Author At Blue Ridge Bookfest To Be Held In Flat Rock, NC

Hendersonville NC author Richard DuRose is known as 'The Inside Authority On The Golden Age Of Aviation’ for good reason. His aunt, Mildred Doran, was one of the United States' first female aviators. He relates her story in 'Shooting Star, The First Woman To Attempt To Reach Hawaii By Air'.

Mildred Doran, a young schoolteacher, entered the Dole Transpacific Air Race in 1927, organized to start only 11 weeks after Charles Lindbergh’s flight to Paris.  Of the 8 planes lined up for the race, only two made it to Hawaii.  Mildred and her plane were mysteriously lost and, similar to Amelia Earhart’s fate, no trace of her or her plane was ever located.

DuRose first  became familiar with the story when he inherited a box of pictures, news clippings and other memorabilia from his mother who was Mildred’s little sister.  That box sent DuRose on a three year quest into the history of aviation and resulted in a 2011 article in Smithsonian’s Air & Space magazine.

“I wrote this book,” stated Mr. DuRose, “as there was an immediate response to the article with many readers saying they wanted to know more.  That gave me the impetus to write 'Shooting Star' because so many urged me to do so.”

This year’s Blue Ridge Bookfest will be held on May 18-19, 2012, at the Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock, North Carolina. The annual event will feature 40 authors plus several seminars.  Hours for the Blue Ridge Bookfest are 1:30 to 5:30 on Friday May 18, and 8:30 to 3:00 on Saturday, May 19. There is no charge for admission.

“Readers will enjoy this story”, DuRose continued, “of a strong willed, pretty, young schoolteacher who was determined to be the first to fly to Honolulu. What I found amazing was the barrage of news coverage given at the time to the Dole Race and Mildred.  The whole country was enamored with Mildred and vowed never to forget her.  But, over time, the story was forgotten."

Author Tom Rieber Releases The Nine Irony, Suspenseful Thriller With A Recovering Alcoholic As Hero

Author’s book and personal life demonstrate how anyone can find a new self and a new life in sobriety

Author Tom Rieber has released his latest novel, The Nine Irony. The book is the first in a four part series that will feature Nick Thomas, a recovering alcoholic, as the primary hero of the story.

‘This book was born from a very special place within me,” stated Rieber, “as, much like Nick Thomas, I have found a new self in sobriety. I understand the world in which I live and in which I write.”

Rieber’s primary character, Nick Thomas, is a struggling mystery writer and a recovering alcoholic who lives in a small cottage in Cape Cod. He wears blue jeans, drives an old temperamental MG and listens to the Rolling Stones. He is also the victim of the perfect frame, is caught up in a web of deceit and suddenly ends up wanted for questioning in two gruesome murders.

Rieber’s philosophy mirrors that of his character. “In our society,” stated Mr. Rieber, “there is far too much negativity surrounding the issue of recovery. A great deal of that negativity is unwarranted. I intend to help overcome these undeserved judgments, attitudes and beliefs. I wish to offer a glimmer of hope to those who may suffer still; to offer a hand up. I do this every day in my personal life and I do this within the pages of this book.”

Mr. Rieber has worked as a staff writer and sports columnist for several newspapers in Coastal Connecticut. He has written and published numerous short stories nationally and has won awards on both the local and collegiate levels. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam war. Over twenty years ago he settled into a career in real estate where he stayed and flourished until his retirement in 2008. Mr. Rieber now resides in Ocean Isle Beach, NC, where he is involved in writing groups and hosts story writing workshops for children and young authors. He also volunteers at Brunswick Family Assistance, where he finds fulfillment helping those who are less fortunate. He is a true believer in himself and in others who wish to turn their life around.

Local Author Mark Gordon Smith Releases First Fiction Novel, Harrisville

New book set in Harrisville, Alpena and Oscoda Michigan areas

Mark Gordon Smith, author of the Private Italy trilogy, announced today the release of his first fiction novel, Harrisville. In this new novel, he continues the tradition of passionate and lyrical writing first revealed in the Italian trilogy, this time creating a work of fiction that is suspenseful, haunting and is filled with unexpected twists.

“The town of Harrisville has always been a part of me,” said Mr. Smith. “I lived in that town when I was a child, and the most critical event in the novel is based upon an event that occurred while our family was living there. Small town and rural life has always captivated me,” Smith explained, “particularly as it was portrayed in novels written in nineteenth century England. Harrisville pays homage to George Eliot’s Middlemarch. The main character of my novel is based upon Dorothea Brooke who is the key character in Eliot’s novel. I found that Dorothea’s strength, her drive and her life were deeply absorbing. Mary, who is the lead character in my novel, is a reflection of Eliot’s character.”

Mark Gordon Smith spent his childhood and early adult years moving around the globe: Italy, Washington, DC, Salt Lake City, Hawaii and Colorado. It was during summer vacations that his family would return to Harrisville and Mio, Michigan to visit his grandparents. Those experiences provided the core inspiration for writing his first fiction novel, Harrisville.

Mr. Smith attended the United States Military Academy. Throughout those years, he continued to pursue a lifelong passion for writing. After graduating from West Point, he completed a five-year obligation and then worked in several multi-national companies, primarily in sales and human resources. He left corporate work in early 2001.

In the summer of that same year, he moved to Florence Italy and wrote the first volume of his Italian Trilogy, Tuscany Echoes, A Season In Italy. It was after his return from Italy that he began to work on Harrisville. In the midst of his work on the fiction novel, he wrote and released the second volume of his trilogy, Tuscan Light, Memories of Italy.

"Most of my work in the past has been non-fiction,” stated Mr. Smith, “yet I have been working on Harrisville for many years. I was motivated, right from the first word of the novel, to share my fascination with small town life through a story filled with challenges, hope and redemption. The narrative takes place in the town of Harrisville, Michigan, located along the northeastern shore of Lake Huron.”

“Ultimately,” Smith concluded, “the novel was written to share with readers the parallels in all of our lives, whether we live in small town America or a small town in England. I hope, of course, that people will read and enjoy the novel; I also hope that readers will be further motivated to explore nineteenth century English classics as well.”

Mr. Smith will be available for interview in the Harrisville, Michigan area from April 16 to April 18, 2009. He will hold a book signing April 23rd at L. Bookworm in Holden Beach, NC, from 2pm to 4 pm, another at Pelican Books at Ocean Isle Beach, NC, from 2pm to 4 pm on April 24th.
