Award-Winning Author Doug Carnine's Latest Book Proves That Mindfulness And Meditation Can Transform The Lives Of Prisoners

Carnine's book relates the stories of four prisoners who achieve transcendence using mindfulness, meditation and the blessings of kindness.

An article on the PsychCentral website by Janice Wood, entitled "Meditation Can Foster Transformation In Prisoners," presented some sobering facts. According to the article over 80% of those incarcerated have been the victim of some form of crime or suffered some kind of abuse. Trauma also plays a key role in higher rates of recidivism and is associated with adverse mental and health conditions.

These findings clearly demonstrates the need for effective ways to reduce the effect of trauma on this segment of the population.

According to the same article, a study published in 'The Permanente Journal' demonstrated that prisoners who used a transcendental meditation technique for just four months had "a 47 percent reduction in total trauma symptoms over the course of the study."

Doug Carnine, PhD, author of 'Saint Badass: Personal Transcendence in Tucker Max Hell,' has witnessed the life-changing benefits meditation and mindfulness produce for everyone, including those who are incarcerated in jails and prisons. The same article also described how almost 200 MPs, peers, and staff received similar training following Labour MP Chris Ruane and Lord Richard Layard setting up a program in Westminster that called for.“…the role of mindfulness and mental wellbeing to be officially recognised and reflected in policy, including in healthcare, education and criminal justice."

50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading Book Awards Accepting Votes From Public For 2017 Awards

'50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' has been called the 'People's Choice Awards' for authors of fiction and non-fiction books

'50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' awards contest is now accepting votes from the public. While most awards programs hand out awards for books, it is the ARTIST behind the book who should be the focus of the award. Most authors overcome tremendous challenges and work very hard to bring their work to market. The '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' awards contest looks for the 'story behind the story'.

An award given for a single book impacts one book only. An award given to an author impacts all the works of that author, past, present and future. As in the world of film, some awards are for best movies, others are for best actors or actresses.  Using this analogy '50 Great Writers' bestows awards upon the writer (actor/actress).

In that the contest is about the author, participants can submit an essay about their writing journey/career, their expectations as authors, a summary of their body of work and basic information about their books. Those who wish to do so may instead submit an excerpt from the book. The public at large is then invited to read these essays and decide whom to vote for.

Authors must build long-term platforms to create ongoing sales and achieve success. People buy books because of the personality BEHIND the work. A great book has very little long-term market value if the author remains relatively anonymous. It is for these reasons '50 Great Writers' focuses sharply on the real story and the personality behind the book.

Award contests must be viewed as being a marketing tool that should be an integral part of the marketing strategies designed by all authors.  It takes time to win awards, and the more awards authors win the more recognition for their work they stand to receive.

Becky also bring her talent to the fiction genre. Her first novel, 'Winter’s Child', set in 1928 in Jerome, Arizona tells the tale of the murder of Josephine Wheaton and her unborn child. After spending extensive time in Jerome, including stays at the famous Grand Hotel, the story of Winter’s Child came to Becky in a vision. Following one of her visits, Becky awoke with the concept for the book, which is currently in production.

About Becky Feola:

Award winning author Becky Feola learned the value of hard work and life while being raised on remote cattle ranches in Arizona and Wyoming. During those early years, she developed a keen sense of service and nurturing towards other living creatures while caring for orphaned calves, sick kittens and her colt, Little George.

Later in life, she would find herself immersed in an 11-year battle as caregiver after her husband was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease. The day her husband tried to strangle her during a frightening hallucination was the day Becky’s life would change forever. After that incident and subsequent hospitalization, the doctors told her that her husband would never be coming home again. This led to a frantic search for a professional care facility that would tend for her beloved's needs as well or better than she could.

Once he passed away in 2005, Becky healed herself by creating two businesses devoted to helping other caregivers find ethical and moral solutions to their needs — The NJF Center for Caregivers and Assisted Living Advantage. Now, she has taken that passion a step further with her book 'The Eldercare Consultant, Your Guide to Making the Best Choices Possible'.

Becky lives in Phoenix, Arizona and while continuing to provide eldercare services, she is currently working on a novel series.
