These heartwarming stories tell the tale of two best friends navigating the adventures of life in the jungle. Keeno, a mischievous monkey, seems to always go against the advice of his best friend, a wise, young elephant named Ernest, only to find himself in trouble. In the end, Keeno learns a lot about friendship and also some very valuable life lessons.
"I am so excited to have won the '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' contest put on by The Authors Show," Maggie stated. "Until publishing my first book, I had always considered my writing more of a hobby, but awards like this are affirmation that I have chosen the right path. The fact that the winners are chosen by public voting lends even more credibility. My signature line is "Always Follow Your Dreams" and that is exactly what I'm doing."
Both 'The Adventures of Keeno and Ernest - The Banana Tree' and 'The Diamond Mine' have been named a Mom’s Choice Awards® Silver Recipient in family-friendly media, products and services. 'The Adventures of Keeno and Ernest -The Banana Tree' has been award the 'This Book Rocks! StoryTime Jam' award for best picture book from StoryTime by Design, Inc.
Van Galen also does classroom presentations centered around the books series. A typical presentation lasts 45 minutes to one hour. Presentations include a reading of the book(s), questions and answers, and fun stories.
"My presentation is appropriate for students from preschool through elementary," van Galen continued. "I have read to all different size groups, from 10 children to over 300. To date, I have read to over 3,000 children and haven't lost one yet. Depending on the school’s needs, I can do one large presentation or up to 5 sessions in one day. I always leave a copy of each book for the school’s library and donate $1 per book sold (from the school) back to the school’s reading program."
