Realistic Fiction Author Grace Mattioli Chosen As One Of '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading'

Grace Mattioli delivers insight through story.  She writes engaging and moving tales that combine the insight and inspiration of 'The Alchemist' with the humor and quirkiness of 'A Confederacy of Dunces'

Author Grace Mattioli has been chosen as one of '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading'. The award was the result of a public voting process and her appearance on The Authors Show in which she discussed her latest realistic fiction novel, 'Discovery of an Eagle'. The new book delves deeply into life issues but at the same time offers witty humor combined with a dash of quirkiness.

"As an Italian-American from New Jersey," Mattioli stated, "I really wanted to write a story that showed this particular subculture in a more positive light than that which is normally conveyed through the media. That is, the Grecos are neither morons nor mobsters. Rather, they're a quirky bunch of highly individualistic and intelligent characters that readers will find funny, lovable and very human."

In the story line of this humorous fiction novel, 28 year old Cosmo Greco takes his sister, Silvia, up on her offer to drive to Portland after he gets laid off from his job. This cross country story is set against the backdrop of the American road; it is filled with vivid, soulful descriptions, humor and a cast of colorful characters, such as Crazy Ted and Truck Stop Angel. Although the second book in the Greco family trilogy, 'Discovery of an Eagle' can be read as a stand-alone. Reviewers such as Kirkus and Midwest Book Review have called this work of realistic fiction a poignant and well-drawn soaring story that opens readers’ eyes to new perspectives.

"I’m delighted to be a winner of this contest as I’m confident that this will allow my new novel, 'Discovery of an Eagle', to reach more readers. Readers will enjoy the journey, fall in love with the characters and gain valuable insights from this beautifully crafted story.  As one reviewer wrote: 'Woven into this story is an important lesson that can help the reader reflect on what truly makes for a happy existence.'"

In her contemporary fiction books, Mattioli paints pictures with words. Her works are filled with vivid descriptions and her characters are extremely dimensional and unforgettable. While her realistic fiction books center around serious issues such as family relations, death and addiction, they are very humorous and fun; readers will be entertained as they gain valuable insights that they can take with them long after they have finished the last page.

Mattioli will appear in the 2014 edition of '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading'. The book will be available in the early part of 2015.
