Author Frances Fuller Issues An Urgent Message About Syria From Those Who Know Aleppo
While Obama ponders four options for intervening in Syria, one them bombing positions of Assad’s Army, we get pictures of bloody children pulled from the rubble and contradictory messages about who is destroying Aleppo. The truth about what is happening is complicated and hard to know, and what we should do about it is burdened with biases.
For these reasons Frances Fuller decided to use her personal contacts and go to those who are the closest to the conflict and have the biggest stake in its outcome. What she tells us has been backed up by Syrian Christians onsite in Aleppo and people in personal contact with others in the city.
"I have the word of a medical doctor who lives in Western Aleppo that Assad and his partners are trying to rescue the Christians who are threatened with massacre by ISIS, and they, plus many Muslims, stand solidly on his side," Fuller stated.
"His view corroborates reports from Vanessa Beely, an independent reporter who recently returned from Aleppo. She says that the regime of Bashar al-Assad, supported by Russia, Iran and Hizballah, has regained 65% of the Syrian territory which was occupied by ISIS and is now assaulting the rest, primarily Eastern Aleppo. Meanwhile, ISIS and other rebel groups in Eastern Aleppo lob shells into Western Aleppo while virtually holding hostage a civilian population of more than 200,000 people.
"Reports in American media that these attacks are coming from Syrian and Russian weapons are not true, according to Beely and my on-the-ground contacts.
"One of these, a Syrian Christian who lives in Lebanon but travels to Syria frequently and visited two weeks ago with residents of Western Aleppo, observes that the U.S. was largely silent while churches were destroyed, bishops were kidnapped, hundreds of thousands of people were killed or injured, and millions became wandering refugees but is now considering stepping into the conflict. He concludes, as I do, that it is because our own interests are threatened. Our dominance of the region, our status in the world is shaken. In other words, our biases now cloud our judgment. It happens that the U.S. government dislikes every military group that is marching on Aleppo. We don’t want any of them, Syria or Iran or Russia or Hizballah, to win.
"While I also have biases against all of these groups, I know that under the Assads the Christians of Syria have been safe and free. For this reason the Christians have supported the regime in this chaotic conflict.
"Robert Naiman, policy director at Just Foreign Policy, in a recent article on HuffPost points out that the Obama Administration cannot bomb Syrian government forces without the approval of Congress, because that would be an act of war against another country. Not only is Naiman right about this, but bombing the Syrian government will be an attack on the last hope of the Christian population and, besides that, a foolish risk, unless we would really like to start World War III.
"When my own biases are put aside, I see clearly that for America to attack the Syrian Army---partially motivated by our distrust of Iran or our dislike for Hizballah or some rivalry with Russia---would be to fight our own wars on Syrian soil, which is immoral to say the least. To hinder anyone from liberating the Christians of Syria and the population of Aleppo will mean fighting on the side of ISIS and be a wicked use of our power and a mistake that will leave us with few friends in the Middle East."
Frances Fuller puts a face on the Middle East many Americans have not yet seen. Her award-winning memoir, 'In Borrowed Houses', gives readers a penetrating glimpse of the Middle East from the inside.
The Syrian occupation of Lebanon during that country’s long civil war is part of Fuller’s experience in the Middle East, related in her memoir. Told in short episodes, Fuller’s book reveals the alienation, confusion and courage of civilians in the Lebanese civil war, introducing to the reader a variety of real people with whom the author interacts: editors, salesmen, neighbors, refugees, soldiers, missionaries, lawyers, shepherds, artists, students. With these people she works, studies, plays games, prays, laughs and cries, all to the accompaniment of gunfire. Together these small stories tell what war is like for civilians caught on a battlefield, and they create the impression of the Lebanese as a fun-loving, witty, patient and resilient people. Fuller's stories compose not a political history, but a historical document of a time and a place.
Critics have praised ‘In Borrowed Houses.’ A judge in the 22nd Annual Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Awards called 'In Borrowed Houses' “ . . a well written book full of compassion . . . a captivating story . . . ”. Another reviewer described the book as “Wise, honest, sensitive, funny, heart-wrenching . . .”. Colin Chapman, lecturer in Islamic Studies at the Near East School of Theology in Beirut said, “ . . . western Christians and Middle Eastern Christians need to read this story…full of remarkable perceptiveness and genuine hope.”
Frances Fuller is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at frances0516@att.net. The full text of her latest article is available at her website. Fuller's book is available at Amazon and other book retailers. A free ebook sample from 'In Borrowed Houses' is available at http://www.payhip.com/francesfuller. Frances Fuller also blogs on other issues relating to the Middle East on her website at http://www.inborrowedhouseslebanon.com.

Barry ZeVan, The Weatherman, Pioneer In Radio And Television, Releases Extraordinary Memoir, “My Life Among The Giants”
Barry ZeVan has announced the release of 'Barry ZeVan - My Life Among The Giants, A Memoir'. ZeVan's memoir is a mind-boggling chronicle of a career in show business and media that has spanned seven decades. It is filled with delightful stories and anecdotes detailing personal relationships with hundreds upon hundreds of celebrities whose names we would all recognize - everybody from politicians to movie stars, radio and television personalities and political figures. There are over 370 iconic names in the acknowledgment pages alone.
Frankly, it would probably be far easier to make a list of people he hasn't known.
Sam Donaldson, ABC-TV White House correspondent, is quoted on the back cover as saying, "How can Barry ZeVan know so many famous people? Beats me, but he does and the stories he tells about them make fascinating reading." That is an understatement.
The book is much more than a collection of revealing stories, however. It is a memoir that details a life filled with bright lights, tempered with an undercurrent of darkness. Ultimately the book is inspiring in many ways and is, in the final analysis, a tale about survival.
The book is the result of encouragement from Barry’s longtime friend, Jerry Stiller, to recount the very rich experiences of his life. As Jerry Stiller wrote to Barry: “You’re an express train that hasn’t reached its destination . . .You should be more recognized.”
Barry says: “What I’ve written involves a lifetime of being welcomed into literally dozens of circles of the world’s most powerful individuals, globally, with vivid memories of how they were as ‘people’ Rather than 'name-dropping', the memories I’m sharing are related in awe and gratitude of my privilege to have had their private selves be shared with mine, and vice-versa, personally and professionally.”
"I wrote this book because dear Jerry Stiller told me my life story had to be told and seen by not only people in broadcasting, show business and politics, but anyone from any walk of life who has the ability to read! My memoir covers every facet of life, from poverty to survival to comfort to longtime anxious times, but including being taken under the wings of some of the world's most iconic people, becoming part of their lives in very personal and warm ways and the stories surrounding each of those elements. I've been told my book should be made into a movie. It's flattering, but the movie would be 17 hours long! This book is definitely NOT predictable. I'm honored former Vice President Mondale, former ABC-TV anchor Sam Donaldson and APT's Rudy Maxa, among others, have stated that fact in their kind endorsements on the back cover. MY consensus? At age 79 and a cancer survivor, I've been a very blessed 'boy' and still have the mind and energy of a four year old, happy to have fulfilled Jerry Stiller's admonition I write the book."
Reviewers and readers have praised 'My Life Among The Giants'. One said, "Barry is a master storyteller, able to capture the essence of some of the biggest names we grew up with, shedding new light on who they were, what motivated them, what made them tick." Another stated, "Barry ZeVan's book is amazing. A word of warning: You won't be able to put it down."
Barry ZeVan is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at BNZ1@aol.com. 'Barry ZeVan - My Life Among The Giants, A Memoir', is available at Amazon.com. More information is available at his website at http://www.barryzevan.com.

Writing children’s books is a way for me to give back and be a positive source to the community. I have dedicated my life to changing the world one reader at a time."

In the storyline of 'The Road To Babylon', Eli J. Peterson has infiltrated the Illuminati, the world’s most secret and feared society. Suddenly, he is a threat causing them to fear him — a threat that can’t be tolerated.
But Peterson has a secret, and a mission that will destroy the Illuminati if he can correctly follow the clues placed before him one at a time. Aiding him in this journey are the wealthy St. Germain family, along with a brilliant female archeologist, and a descendant of the world’s most famous Egyptologist. NDE Expert Brian McLaughlin Co-Hosts TV Episodes Dealing With Suicide Prevention, Bullying, Mental Health And PTSD
Brian McLaughlin, near death experience expert, speaker and author of a highly praised book about NDE, 'A Flight Without Wings, My Experience With Heaven', recently served as co-host of two segments on Madhouse TV. McLaughlin's near death experience brought him to a state of unshakable peace and total freedom from fear. His experience gives him a unique perspective on topics such as suicide prevention, bullying and PTSD.
The October 10th segment of 'Chapters Rap' on Madhouse TV addressed suicide prevention, mental health and bullying and focused on creating awareness and solutions. The segment featured Linda Rossi, founder of 'Chrissy's Wish' and a local representative of the Long Island Crisis Center.
The October 17th segment focused on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The segment featured Lou Falco, Director of Operation Initiative Foundation Inc., an organization that provide resources to Veterans and families of Veterans.
McLaughlin stated: “Recently I signed on to co-host an internet TV show known as the ‘Chapters Rap’, which may become ‘Double Vision’ at some point. My contribution to the show is my perspective on the common element of fear.
"The past two shows dealt with suicide prevention in youth AND veterans, as well as bullying and PTSD. The fear factor is obvious in some topics, but may be more obscure as it relates to the subjects mentioned here.
"There is an age old dilemma of dealing with self worth, self esteem, finding one’s identity which may manifest themselves in the form of becoming a bully. This creates a fear for the victim. Where that leads is anyone’s guess. It sometimes culminates in completing suicide. Understanding the dynamics of bullying may bring some clarity to the victim in finding an alternative option.
"PTSD may be more complex, but still exhibits some connection to fear in exploring the different remedies available. My best guess is that sufferers of PTSD might suffer with, among other things, a fear of isolation in facing these complexities.
"All in all, many of these adversities in life contain underlying fears of failure, certainly the fear of an unknown solution/result, and maybe fear of embarrassment in seeking support... among other fears.
"The message I try to convey is to seek help, as you may be surprised at how many people want to help. It can be a difficult emotion to deal with alone."
Brian McLaughlin shows us clearly in his book how we can experience a life filled with peace in the midst of discord. We can find freedom from fear when faced with uncertainty. We can overcome any form of anxiety, even while facing down threats from within and without. Depression, despair and dismay can easily be transformed into peace, confidence, contentment and joy in one single stroke. What is this most powerful concept that will allow us achieve these states?
The key is to accept that the afterlife really does exist - without question. This has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with truth. While the afterlife cannot be proven using a scientific method based in the physical, it can be proven through one's experience. McLaughlin is one of very few people who have had that experience. He speaks from that experience and his readers and audiences reap the benefits.
A Flight Without Wings' offers readers a look at the near death experience from an unbiased point of view. It is the presentation of the material that sets this book apart from the other books about the near death experience. It is raw and it's real. There is no embellishment and no hidden agenda. While his book has a spiritual flavor certainly, there is no preaching and no religious messages. It is his near-death experience, just as it happened.
McLaughlin's experience changed the course of his life forever. It instilled in him what we all seek - certainty about life after death. And with that a peace of mind that can never be shaken, nor can it be doubted. His near death experience brought a sense of clarity. It brought a sense of real, lasting peace. He now knows with certainty that we exist forever. It is that simple message he brings to his audience, both through his book and at his speaking engagements.
Brian McLaughlin was chosen as one of '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' in 2015. Reviews of 'A Flight Without Wings' have been overwhelmingly positive. Dr. Penny Sartori, author of 'The Wisdom of Near-Death Experiences', said "This book will help others who have had an NDE to make sense of their experience and will also help those close to someone who has had an NDE because NDEs affect close family members and friends too."
Jack Magnus, a reviewer with Readers Favorite, called the book a "well written and moving memoir that neither delves into the fanciful or dogmatic,...” "…Well worth reading, and is highly recommended." Another stated, "Being a mother who lost her only child I found it to be a great comfort to me." Another said, "I have read many accounts such as these, but this beautifully written account simply touched my heart in ways that previous ones have not."
Mark Feuerstein, Actor (Royal Pains, USA Network) wrote: “I have read it and I think it’s an inspiring tale of deep insight and so personal and yet so universal . . . such profound perspective.”
Brian McLaughlin is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at bamplaya@msn.com. 'A Flight Without Wings' is available at Amazon, Payhip and other book retailers. More information is available on his website at: http://www.BrianMcLaughlinBooks.com.

Canadian Romantic Fiction Author Rusty Blackwood Announces Upcoming Events In Ontario, Canada Area
Canadian Indie romantic fiction novelist Rusty Blackwood has announced a series of upcoming events throughout the Niagara area. Blackwood is the author of two romantic fiction books, 'Passions In Paris' and 'Willow's Walk'.
Rusty was interviewed on The Joe Show for a segment of Fun Food Friday. The show will air on October 28th at www.joecrawfordlive.com/the-joe-show. Blackwood also did a reading from 'Willow's Walk'.
On October 30th she will hold the first official book signing for 'Willow's Walk' at Ancaster Chapters, Ancaster, Ontario between 1:00 and 4:30 pm.
She will also be taking part in the Ridley College Xmas Market on Friday, December 2nd from 2-7pm at the Ridley College Fieldhouse, 2 Ridley Rd., St. Catharines, ON.
"I am very much looking forward to sharing the October 28th airing of my participation in The Joe Show's Fun Food Friday," stated Rusty Blackwood. "I had such fun taking part in this weekly Friday segment, and I hope my readers will enjoy listening to it." Miss Blackwood goes on to add, "I am also pleased to announce my first official signing for my newly modified 'Willow's Walk'. Ancaster Chapters, located on the outskirts of Hamilton, Ontario, is an interesting and extremely bustling bookstore, so I am hoping to meet new readers, and discuss my newest romance novel with them. The same can be said with regard to my return to the Field house at Ridley College for their Annual Christmas Market. 'Passions in Paris' and I took part in it last year, and I am pleased to be invited back. This is, without a doubt, one of Niagara's largest Christmas venues, so I am greatly looking forward to it, and to be once again offering 'Passions in Paris', as well as the newly re-released 'Willow's Walk'."
Blackwood's latest romantic fiction novel, 'Willow's Walk', follows the release of 'Passions in Paris: Revelations of a Lost Diary'. Her first romantic fiction novel is a sweeping saga written in the tradition of Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' and 'What Dreams May Come'. It has been compared to Erich Segal's 'Love Story' and Nicholas Sparks' 'The Notebook'.
Willow's Walk' is a gripping new tale, certain to hold readers captive from the very first page. Set in the beautiful city of Ottawa, Canada in 2003, this touching story centers on the life and times of a woman determined to prevail at all costs, regardless of what is set before her, the result of which is certain to leave the reader reeling in its wake.
The path each person walks is entirely their own. The pitfalls along that path, as well as the way in which they are dealt with are entirely up to the individual. But Willow Sutherland-Crosby walks a far-different path, and with her own agenda.
Abuse, deception, intrigue, and a never ending quest for happiness and love - will she find these, or will her blind determination be her downfall?
'Willow's Walk' has received a number of 5 star reviews from professional reviewers. Maria Beltran stated, "I highly recommend this book." Gisela Dixon said, “I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the life of a person presented in such a wonderful manner." Another said, "Brutally honest. I was touched by the bittersweet conclusion that sometimes purpose and happiness are only found through great tragedy ..."
'Passions in Paris' has also received rave reviews. Linkk Kula Kane said, "Passions in Paris I think stands its ground with these other powerful romantic stories like 'The Notebook' by Nicolas Sparks." Reader Fred Pifer stated that “'Passions', is a fascinating book of a love story that seemed to be written with me in mind. In the book 'Love Story' by Erich Segal, he told of a deep abiding love story that reminds me of Cullen and Joy’s in Ms. Blackwood’s book, but the twists of intrigue and mystery that she adds keeps the reader on edge throughout."
Information on the new romantic fiction release, including a new book trailer, is available at Blackwood's site on the 'Willow' page. Readers can download paperback and Kindle versions of both books at Amazon sites worldwide, including Amazon.ca.

"Being bipolar is no laughing matter," Nachman stated, "Doctors in the 50’s didn’t know their front from their back about chemical imbalances in the brain and diagnosed it as a form of schizophrenia, administered electric shock to eliminate all the ichies in the cortex, and if you were a blight on the community, locked you up with the rest of the mental defectives. Later as the doctors became more enlightened they called the disease, 'Manic Depression'. In the 70’s, to soothe the nerves of those afflicted as well as their families and to make it sound less threatening the doctors named the disease, “Bipolar”.
Sid Nachman is also the author of 'Strictly For Seniors' - a nonfiction work of short stories about what happened to Sid "after breakfast on Delancey Street" in West Philly during the 30’s and 40’s when his Mom gave him a big hug and kiss and sent him on his way. Sid had great fun, survived bullying by hitting the bigger boys about the head with his violin case and developed his own singular brand of “street smarts".
Both of Nachman's books have received fantastic reviews. One stated, "Like James Joyce, Sid Nachman can take the ordinary and turn it into magic with a fluency that's imperceptible." Another said "Sid's stories touch the human soul with wit, charm and realism."
Sid Nachman is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at mollymax210@gmail.com. Both books are available at Amazon. The free Kindle ebook download is available for Amazon Prime members and Kindle Unlimited subscribers. More information, including samples from the books and a recent interview with The Authors Show, is available at his website at http://www.sidnachman.com.

Immigration, American Values And An Epic Journey To Freedom Are Detailed In David Michael Palladino's 'Quest For Freedom'
'Make America Great Again' is one of the most popular campaign slogans ever created. This slogan moves us in two directions simultaneously - back to a past in which America was perceived to be the greatest country in the world, and forward into a future in which can once again BE the greatest country in the world. That slogan resonates with people who believe America is on a downward slide. The upcoming election could solidify America's becoming great again or it could solidify its downfall.
Immigration is a key issue in political campaigns everywhere. Immigration however is not really the problem - illegal immigration is the problem. Illegal immigration allows people to take advantage of the opportunity America offers without actually joining American society and participating in all that comes with it. The offenders are willing to take that risk, as the alternatives offer little chance for true freedom. The desire to immigrate to the United States is held by people everywhere because America (despite what some politicians and news media might say) continues to be and indeed still is the greatest country in the world. Yes, the USA has slipped a bit and has a few serious problems. Yet in spite of this, America continues to lead the world in freedom, in core values, and is the most important commodity of all - the opportunity for a better life.
David Michael Palladino's 'Quest For Freedom' is the engaging story of Adriana Corderu and her quest to obtain freedom by escaping the Iron Curtain.
Palladino writes inspirational fiction for young people. He teaches, through his works of fiction, important ideals and values. As a former U.S. Army Ranger, former High School Phys-Ed & Health Teacher and Coach, and founder of “Palladino Martial Arts”, he understands the significance of instilling these all-important ideals and values in young people. 'Quest For Freedom' helps communicate freedom's true meaning to a younger audience. For this reason it will appeal to parents, grandparents and educators and those who are old enough to remember what America used to be. Palladino deftly paints a picture of America as she really was during the Cold War. He shows us clearly why American freedom and American values held such appeal for many oppressed people in other parts of the world.
During the first Cold War the world revolved around the conflict between the theologies of communism and democracy. The two main protagonists in this conflict were the United States in the West and the Soviet Union in the East. As Eastern Bloc leaders began to tighten restrictions in the lives of their people, commensurate with their increase in power, there began to emerge, in the East, a group of young people, hard and idealistic, adventurous and courageous. These would become the heroes of the movement of their time. These were the brave young souls who, with inspiration from President Reagan, began to break down the Iron Curtain. The escape from Soviet Communism and the quest for freedom is the theme of 'Quest For Freedom'. Set in the Cold War era, the book is the engaging story of Adriana Corderu and her quest to obtain freedom by escaping the Iron Curtain.
'Quest for Freedom' has received rave reviews. One reviewer stated, "More native born Americans need to know this story and more importantly appreciate our country as she did." Another said, "The readers become engrossed immediately in Palladino's dynamic effervescent style."
David Palladino is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at inspirationalbookauthor@yahoo.com. 'Adriana Corderu, Quest for Freedom' is available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Rosedog Books. More information, including samples of the book, is available at Palladino’s website at http://www.inspirationalbookauthor.com.

Vote For The US Department Of Peace, An Idea Whose Time Has Come, In The US Department Of Peace Survey
The time for a US Department of Peace has come. The United States Government currently has a one-armed State Department. The one arm is called the Department of Defense. Frances Fuller, author of 'In Borrowed Houses', believes we also need a Department of Peace. She is asking those who agree to vote for the creation of this department in the US Department Of Peace survey.
"We need a Department of Peace whose head, the Secretary of Peace, will be part of the President’s cabinet," Fuller stated. "This secretary must engage the best thinkers in our country, from generals to peace activists, philosophers and psychologists, historians and scientists, ministers and moms, in the study and development of peace strategies. The overarching assignment of this group should be to help the Secretary develop a national plan for creating peace in our country and the world.
"Just as the Department of Defense assesses security threats and responds to them, the Department of Peace can identify opportunities for creating cooperation and friendship and respond to them with wisdom, or see conflict coming and attack the problem behind it. Like war, peace requires intention and planning and preparation and deeds of valor.
"Using creative and peace loving citizens, the peace department might promote wonderful innovations in the ways we relate to one another at home and as a nation with other nations. We might face up to the injustices in our own society and by addressing them, reduce the violence in our cities. Internationally we could become a country that is famous for creating peace rather than dominating the world.
"Dennis Kucinich proposed a Department of Peace in 2005. Interviewing him about this, Walter Cronkite observed that every time the people of the world even heard the words, 'Department of Peace,' their image of America would be impacted.
"The proposal has failed in the Congress until now, because we the people did not get behind it or did not even know. We are so accustomed to violence that we consider peace a beautiful fantasy. In fact, we are pursuing the alternative and evil fantasy that we can always be stronger than our enemy and overcome their violence with ours. Given the choice of these two fantasies, I choose peace and want a president with a plan for peace."
Public votes, for and against, and opinions related to this issue can be submitted at Fuller's website at http://www.inborrowedhouseslebanon.com.
Frances Fuller is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at frances0516@att.net. 50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading Book Awards Accepting Votes From Public For 2016 Awards
'50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' is now accepting votes from the public. While most awards programs hand out awards for books, it is the ARTIST behind the book who should be the focus of the award. Most authors overcome tremendous challenges and work very hard to bring their work to market. The '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' awards contest looks for the 'story behind the story'.
An award given for a single book impacts one book only. An award given to an author impacts all the works of that author, past, present and future. As in the world of film, some awards are for best movies, others are for best actors/actresses. Using this analogy '50 Great Writers' bestows awards upon the writer (actor/actress).
In that the contest is about the author, participants submit an essay about their writing journey/career, their expectations as authors, a summary of their body of work and basic information about their books. The public at large is then invited to read these essays and decide whom to vote for.
Authors must build long-term platforms to create ongoing sales and achieve success. People buy books because of the personality BEHIND the work. A great book has very little long-term market value if the author remains relatively anonymous. It is for these reasons '50 Great Writers' focuses sharply on the real story and the personality behind the book.
Award contests must be viewed as being a marketing tool that should be an integral part of the marketing strategies designed by all authors. It takes time to win awards, and the more awards authors win the more recognition for their work they stand to receive.
Voting is currently open for the 2016 contest. Winners will appear in the 2016 edition of '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading'. Participants include, but are not limited to:

Donald Trump And PTSD: PTSD Is Not A Sign Of Weakness Says June Sitler, Author Of Newly Released Book About PTSD, 'Fugue'
PTSD can take many forms. When one hears Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) the image of a Vietnam Vet comes to mind. However, many people from all walks of life may suffer from this disorder. They are the survivors. They can be people who live in the inner city, those who have suffered the loss of a loved one, survivors of childhood trauma in adulthood, or a man or woman after a divorce. Or they can be witnesses, rescuers or survivors of catastrophic events. They can have reactive depression and even a dissociative disorder.
One thing PTSD is not - it is not a sign of weakness. J.P. Sitler, author of 'Fugue' believes just the opposite.
Donald Trump recently addressed military veterans in Herndon, Va., and suggested those who develop post-traumatic stress disorder are not strong and cannot handle combat. Sitler responded by declaring that this statement illustrates how profoundly some of us can misunderstand PTSD.
As an author of a book about PTSD, called 'Fugue', she found that PTSD is in fact a survival skill, that kicks in psychologically to endure horrific events that otherwise would completely overwhelm an individual when one’s life is vitally threatened. It is a failure to scream, if you will. A numbing of senses. Doctors, nurses and first responders often at least once in their career, experience an episode of PTSD.
Statistics show about 30 percent of the men and women who have spent time in war zones experience PTSD. An additional 20 to 25 percent have had partial PTSD at some point in their lives. More than half of all male Vietnam veterans and almost half of all female Vietnam veterans have experienced 'clinically serious stress reaction symptoms.' Current estimates of PTSD in military personnel who served in Iraq range from 12% to 20%.
Anthropologist and neuroscientist Melvin Konner in his collection Understanding Trauma sees PTSD not as a sign of weakness but a sign of strength. He wrote that it could be possible that our common generalized anxiety disorders are an evolutionary legacy, a way to adapt in a wilderness full of fear, fight or flight.
In a A Huffington Post column, it was stated that Donald Trump’s comments on Veteran suicide are exactly why there is a PTSD stigma. Sitler responded by stating that Trump tried to back-pedal his argument saying his remarks were taken out of context. We need only to look back a bit to his his comments on Sen. John McCain’s time as a prisoner of war, stating that he is not an American hero. His true colors shine through once again. Sitler goes on to say Trump could be envious of Sen. John McCain and of other veterans because he was deferred from military service due to his flat feet. The weakness actually lies within Trump. She asks do we really want an American President who feels the need to compensate for his weaknesses, playing out on the world stage?
In the storyline in 'Fugue', the protagonist Nathan is handsomely rugged, linear and computer savvy. His perfect world however, is falling apart at the seams, his job, his relationships, all because he has lost his sense of time. It is a tale about three childhood friends and all the manifestations of love and its consequences. In a catastrophic drowning accident, Nathan fails to save his beloved friend from childhood. Readers witness Nathan's struggle with his needle sharp emotional pain made palpable through anger, denial and fear. Through deep hypnosis, Nathan begins to find answers.
Some of the Fugue characters include a narcissistic mother, a greedy metrosexual pharmaceutical lawyer, a Naval officer suffering from PSTD, a beautiful girl with a secret and a smart logical young man struggling with emotional issues. Many appear to be living lives of perfection but only in degrees of sanity.
The book has received rave reviews from readers. One said, "This is really original and a totally brilliant read . . . I can't recommend it highly enough." Another stated, "J. Sitler moves the reader quickly through an intriguing psychological tale of past trauma and its sustaining impact on the present." Another said, "Sitler's FUGUE reminds me that PTSD is not relegated to the military experience. Readers may identify their own fugue experiences not as severe as in Nathan, the main character, but it will be therapeutic. I know it was for me."
J. P. Sitler is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at junesitler6@gmail.com. 'Fugue' is available at Amazon and other book retailers. More information is available at her website at http://www.junesitlerauthor.net.

J. P. Sitler is the author of numerous op-ed articles for The Nashville Eye of The Tennessean, which include Appearances Are Deceiving, AIDS and Grace and PTSD. Fugue is her first novel. She is a northern transplant living with her husband Dr. Vaughan in an empty nest filled with high-drive canines and opinionated cats in a sleepy southern town. She is a survivor of 31 surgeries, lived seven years on the largest, longest existing American commune, was a medical transcriptionist, and is now a teacher and novelist.

Renowned Scholar And Author Ruth Finnegan Announces New Release, 'Black Inked Pearl'
Author Ruth Finnegan has announced the release of her latest epic romance novel, 'Black Inked Pearl'.
'Black Inked Pearl' tells the story of a naive Irish girl Kate and her mysterious lover, whom she rejects in panic and then spends her life seeking. After the opening rejection, Kate recalls her Irish upbringing, her convent education, and her coolly-controlled professional success, before her tsunami-like realisation beside an African river of the emotions she had concealed from herself and that she passionately and consumingly loved the man she had rejected.
The novel, born in dreams, is interlaced with the ambiguity between this world and another, and increasingly becomes more poetic, riddling and dreamlike as the story unfolds. The epilogue alludes to the key themes of the novel – the eternity of love and the ambiguity between dream and reality.
Ruth Finnegan is the author of hundreds of highly praised works, academic publications, articles and books and is currently in production on a number of film scripts.
‘Black Inked Pearl’ has received three international prizes and rave reviews from readers and reviewers alike. Scott Neuffer of Forward Reviews stated, "If James Joyce's dream-like opuses were written from a more feminist perspective, they might look something like Ruth Finnegan's Black Inked Pearl, a rapturous fantasia of words and images set somewhere between ancient myth and the green shores of modern Ireland." Chris Fischer, in a Readers Favorite review stated "I just finished reading 'Black Inked Pearl: A Girl's Quest' by author Ruth Finnegan, and all I can say is 'Wow!' It's written in a unique and creative style, one that at times blends poetry with prose ... enviable and beautiful at the same time ... any reader who enjoys a lovely, unique and interesting work of fiction should absolutely read Black Inked Pearl. I will be eagerly awaiting the next offering by author Ruth Finnegan. If it is anything like her debut novel, it will be simply magical!" Kirkus Reviews said, "Kate's romantic quest calls to mind Paradise Lost and Greek mythology as it weaves together biblical allusions, fantasy, and details of the modern day." Like other classic and unusual literary works, the book has given rise to many interpretations and, as Christiana Fatoki perceptively put it, like its more recent prequel ‘Pearl of the Seas,’ it “sinks into your unconscious .”
'Black Inked Pearl' was published by Garn Press. As stated on the Garn Press website, their mission "is to seek out the great thinkers of the 20th century and the original thinkers and writers of conscience of the 21st century to create remarkable books that inspire people to act."
Ruth Finnegan is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at r.h.finnegan@open.ac.uk. More information is available at her website at http://garnpress.com/authors/ruth-finnegan/.
About Ruth Finnegan:
Ruth Finnegan OBE is a renowned scholar and celebrated writer who is Emeritus Professor, the Open University, a Fellow of the British Academy, and an Honorary Fellow of Somerville College Oxford. She was born in Derry (on the last day of December 1933) and grew up there and in the remote countryside of Donegal where, as poetically recalled in the second chapter of her novel, ‘Black Inked Pearl’, she spent the war years; went to a literature-imbued Quaker school in York where, a fellow-student with the actress Judi Dench, she learned to read the resonant poetry of Yeats and Shakespeare and to repeat texts that, with others, she had to learn, aloud (a good training for the sonic style of her novels); earned top degrees in classics and anthropology at Oxford; and carried out fieldwork on story-telling in Africa – a revelation of the multi-sensory nature of performance that has affected her all her life, and constantly comes through in her writing. From 1969, apart from three years in the South Pacific island of Fiji, she taught and researched at the pioneering Open University. She is the author of over twenty academic books, several of them prize-winning. She has three daughters (two of them born in Nigeria), five grandchildren (one in New Zealand), and now lives in Old Bletchley, England, with her husband of over 50 years and two loving, impetuous, lovable cairn terriers.

International Standards Needed For Genocide Reparations
“You cannot kill an entrenched ideology with a gun,” Benjamin Ferencz, who began his law career prosecuting Nazis, said last week when he pledged $10 million to a group dedicated to preventing genocide.
In addition to using the funding to provide governments with the tools needed to prevent genocide, the Simon-Skjodt Center for the Prevention of Genocide at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum also helps develop an international response when a genocide occurs.
Both are needed in a world that tends to turn a blind eye as entire cultures are erased for political, economic, ethnic or religious reasons, said Mari Serebrov, who has extensively researched the first genocide of the 20th century, which took place in German South-West Africa in 1904.
“However, we also need to establish international standards for dealing with past genocides to ensure the survivors aren’t victimized again,” Serebrov said. “Unfortunately, we too often refuse to recognize a genocide for what it is until years later. And even then, we temper our response, justifying our inaction and excusing the aggressor, especially if it happens to be a powerful or strategic ally.”
The refusal to confront an entrenched ideology and hold nations accountable for their actions, even after the fact, fuels more genocides, said Serebrov, the author of 'Mama Namibia', a historical novel based on the true story of a 12-year-old Herero girl who survived the 1904 genocide in German South-West Africa, now modern-day Namibia.
In the case of Germany’s first genocide, the government justified it as the necessary action to put down Herero and Nama uprisings. At the time, a few individuals spoke out about the senseless murder of entire peoples, but most nations looked away and continue to do so to this day, Serebrov noted. If they acknowledge it at all, they view it in the context of colonialism.
“There is no denying that what happened in South-West Africa went well beyond colonial aggression,” Serebrov said. As German troops pressed the starving Herero ever deeper into the Kalahari Desert to die, Germany announced its intent to exterminate the entire Herero Nation, as well as many Nama communities.
Although already in practice, the Herero extermination policy was formalized Oct. 2, 1904, in a much-publicized order General Lothar von Trotha issued on behalf of the Kaiser. Yet the world did nothing.
“By time other nations acknowledge that a genocide has occurred, the damage has been done, countless lives have been destroyed, and the survivors face a future haunted by grief and economic despair,” Serebrov said.
In recent years, some groups in Germany have pushed for their country to finally acknowledge the 1904 genocide, but no official recognition has been forthcoming. Now, the German government is privately negotiating with the Namibian government to put the matter to rest, according to Namibian news reports.
Excluded from those negotiations are leaders of the Herero and Nama, who, because of the genocide, are minorities in Namibia, a country that didn’t come into existence until 1990. While the Herero and Nama may finally get an apology of sorts, their years of suffering and heartache may be overlooked in a deal designed to benefit the German and Namibian governments rather than the genocide survivors.
“This is why we need international standards for genocide reparations,” Serebrov said. “Letting Germany dictate who it will negotiate with, along with the terms of an apology and reparations, is like letting a rapist determine if he has committed a crime and then having him slap his own hand.”
About Mama Namibia:
Based on the true story of the daughter of a traditional healer, 'Mama Namibia' details the journey of a young girl, Jahohora, as she searches for her family while hiding from the German soldiers. Wasting away in the desert, Jahohora is about to give up her desperate struggle for life when she finds hope in a simple act of kindness from a Jewish doctor serving in the German army.
'Mama Namibia' has received rave reviews. One reader said, "Thank you for writing this book - touching, amazing, wonderful, sad, inspiring . . . a must read and one of the best books I've ever read." Another stated, "This book is a must read for anyone who is interested in history, troubled by its propensity to repeat itself and stunned that this story has never been told to a large audience before. Selfies, Short Films, The Geena Davis Institute And The Media's Effect On Self Esteem For Girls: Dr Barbara Becker Holstein, Psychologist, Filmmaker, Brings It All Together
Dr. Holstein's award-winning books, plays and short films offer solutions to problems that impact today's teens and tweens and helps them develop positive self esteem
Geena Davis is famous for many reasons, one of the most important being her work to bring attention to gender stereotyping in film. To that end she formed the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. As stated on their website, the organization hopes to "engage, educate, and influence the need to dramatically improve gender balance, reduce stereotyping and create diverse female characters in entertainment targeting children 11 and under." She and her organization clearly understand that films drive our perceptions of the world and that the filmmaking industry should pay attention to how gender stereotyping and everything that results from it can affect the lives of viewers.
Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein, a visionary who combines psychology with filmmaking, approaches these issues in diverse ways. Like Ms. Davis she understands the importance of media in the lives of young people. She takes the real life issues young women face and attempts to help young people make sense out of a topsy-turvy, selfie-facebook-video-film based reality. As a Positive Psychologist who uses film to promote communication, she understands that this has become more than just another teen 'issue'. The influence technology has on teens today had become THE issue of the day. The Washington Post, Time Magazine, Huffington Post, CNN, Forbes Magazine - the sheer number of news organizations that have addressed the issue is staggering.
The New York Times Magazine recently presented an article entitled "How should you deal with social media’s constantly increasing demands? Be more like Beyoncé." Another in the Metropolitan section was entitled "From Books to Apps to Virtual Reality".
"Geena Davis's work is vitally important on many levels," Dr. Holstein stated. "It isn't enough to present programming to youngsters that is 'safe' and perhaps educational. Not if there are fewer characters who are female than male and not if the female characters have less important information to share or are stereotyped.
"The NYT article on social media is a great connector to my thoughts that the Selfie has the potential to be art. Facebook is a kind of constant selfie. People just haven't figured out what they should share and what they should keep to themselves.
"The 'Virtual Reality' article is about the regenerative use of technology rather than being swamped or put out of business by it. I think of Selfie films as one of those mergers. 'Secrets' is going to have a nice integration of Selfie work and fine old fashioned camera work - more so than 'The Truth' where we were lucky we got any camera work. Should be very interesting.
One of Dr. Holstein's recent short films, 'The Truth - A Short Film' uses the selfie concept to paint a portrait of a young girl. The new short film shows us how she attempts to deal with life changing problems, concerns, challenges and issues all young girls face. The result is an eye-opening, in-depth exploration of her life, giving viewer the distinct impression that they have been somehow magically embedded into that life. If the selfie concept were be transformed into an art form, 'The Truth' would be the result.
The short two minute film by Dr. Holstein, 'The Truth, A Short Short Film', premiered at FilmOneFest in July. The film was chosen as an Official Selection in the Chain Film Festival held in Manhattan on August 13, 2016. 'The Truth, a Short Film', a longer 16 minute portrayal of a girl growing up, has been officially selected for the Golden Door International Film Festival held in September 2016. The Rahway International Film Festival recently chose the 2 minute version as an Official Selection. Upcoming in early November is the Jersey City International Television and Film Festival, also choosing as an Official Selection, 'The Truth, a Short, Short Film.
Dr. Holstein's entire body of work is great for parents, grandparents, older siblings and teachers to establish lines of communication with the tweens and teens in their lives. Her books have received numerous awards. A recent review of Dr. Holstein's book, 'Secrets', stated, "This book should ideally be stocked in the home libraries of families with children and in school libraries worldwide."
'The Truth' focuses on how teens communicate their deepest needs. A trailer from her new short film, 'The Truth', an Official Choice of the Garden State Film Festival, is available at www.thetruthforgirls.com. The trailer captures the world of technology and its public nature with the intense needs of a young girl to share her most private and most intimate thoughts, feelings, ideas and secrets.
A sequel to 'The Truth', 'Secrets', starring Megan Brown, is currently in production. In the sequel, based on 'Secrets, Diary of a Gutsy Teen', a girl continues to keep both a virtual diary on her cell phone and a paper diary. She is a year older and although she has matured, her longings and her hunger to find a home for her feelings and intense emotions are even stronger.
