New Short Film 'The Truth' By Dr Barbara Becker Holstein Turns Selfie Concept Into Powerful Film To Reach Teens And Tweens

Dr. Holstein's award-winning books, plays and short films offer solutions to problems that impact today's teens and tweens and helps them develop positive self esteem

Without any doubt, the most difficult challenge parents, grandparents and educators face is how to impact the lives of teens and tweens in ways that enhance the child's interest and encourage participation without turning them off or causing resistance. Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein has found a way to do just that - short films based on the concept of the selfie, in which young people present their innermost feelings, challenges and concerns. This new short film concept is, in a word, genius.

A recent story on The New York Times website featured a new web series, 'Ocean Parkway', which takes its 'quirky' characters from the neighborhood streets. The series looks at Brooklyn through the eyes of two tweens and their parents. That web series has now been pitched to HBO with four episodes and is under consideration for development.

"There are not enough series, nor films that reflect the ordinary lives of people in a meaningful way and that can be watched by all ages," Dr. Holstein stated. "My life work, as a positive psychologist, is based on the belief that listening to ordinary kids, tweens, teens, and adults and deeply understanding their needs, passions, feelings, longings and goals is the best way to get real understanding, compassion and problem solving going. The results are often extraordinary, as strengths, talents and potential begin to emerge.

"'The Truth, a Short Film' and now in production, 'Secrets' both reflect the ordinary and the extraordinary of girls, tweens and teens in our society. In each film, a young girl, moving from being a tween to a teen, confronts all the issues of her life. She has angst and joy, troubles and fun while dealing with everything from falling in love, to family upsets, to struggling with loss, to finding ways to hold on to the best of herself as her life continues to unfold."

The short two minute film by Dr. Holstein, 'The Truth, A Short Short Film', premiered at FilmOneFest in July. The film was chosen as an Official Selection in the Chain Film Festival held in Manhattan on August 13, 2016. 'The Truth, a Short Film', a longer 16 minute portrayal of a girl growing up, has been officially selected for the Golden Door International Film Festival to be held in September 2016. The Rahway International Film Festival recently chose the 2 minute version as an Official Selection.

"Yes, the character, based on the 'girl' in my two books, 'The Truth' and 'Secrets' is both ordinary and extraordinary.  But there is another twist to all of this.  And that is the use of the Selfie in film making.

ScreenshotBarbara"In both of these films, the actual actress, in 'The Truth',  Cassidy Terracciano, and in 'Secrets' Megan Brown, not only play the part of 'the girl' but they do their own filming via their phones. This is an incredible leap in filmmaking.  I directed both girls, but not at the moments they finally filmed themselves. They did that at home alone in the privacy of the merger of themselves with the character.  I'm excited to see the use of selfies not only enhancing the actor's capacities to make the character come alive, but resulting in a  film that is a more intimate, 'real' artistic experience, for the viewer.

"And the results? Fabulous. 'The Truth' in its two versions has already been accepted by a number of film festivals.  The most recent being the Rahway International Film Festival which chose as an Official Selection, the 2 minute version, 'The Truth, a Short, Short Film'.

"What does this mean for the phenomenon of Selfies? I think it means that allowing a person to get closer to herself, whether that means capturing on video or in pictures oneself via Seflies or whether it means merging the deepest parts of an actress with the character at hand has tremendous potential for mental health and for filmmaking."

Dr. Holstein's entire body of work is great for parents, grandparents, older siblings and teachers to establish lines of communication with the tweens and teens in their lives. Her books have received numerous awards. A recent review of Dr. Holstein's book, 'Secrets', stated, "This book should ideally be stocked in the home libraries of families with children and in school libraries worldwide."

'The Truth' focuses on how teens communicate their deepest needs. A trailer from her new short film, 'The Truth', an Official Choice of the Garden State Film Festival, is available at www.thetruthforgirls.com.  The trailer captures the world of technology and its public nature with the intense needs of a young girl to share her most private and most intimate thoughts, feelings, ideas and secrets.

"In today's world of likes, lols and longing to be seen, noticed, validated, talked about, often by 'friends' only known virtually, where are her deepest thoughts and longings going? Both the trailer, even in 47 seconds and the film 'The Truth, A Short Film' of 16 minutes are great to use to get kids and parents talking about today's social media world that we all live in."

A sequel to 'The Truth', 'Secrets', starring Megan Brown,  is currently in production.  In the sequel, based on 'Secrets, Diary of a Gutsy Teen', a girl continues to keep both a virtual diary on her cell phone and a paper diary.  She is a year older and although she has matured, her longings and her hunger to find a home for her feelings and intense emotions are even stronger.

Mediumship as a Doorway to Christ: Pat Chalfant's Newest Video Demonstrates that EVP's and NDE's Can Open the Doorway to Christ

Oregon Spiritualist Medium Pat Chalfant's amazing psychic gifts have helped hundreds of individuals worldwide. She is the author of 'Spirit Lights A Path To Mediumship'

Certified Spiritualist Medium Pat Chalfant has announced the release of a video that demonstrates that electric voice phenomena (EVP) and near death experiences (NDE) can both serve as the doorway to Christ. Regardless of which terms we use to describe the reality that lies beyond the veil of bodily perception, we have come to accept that this reality can break through on occasion through various means. Real mediums (as opposed to the stage version or the entertainment form of mediumship) have a unique gift that allows them to interact with that dimension. The results can be surprising and, in some cases, startling.

In one such case, Medium Pat Chalfant unintentionally attracted a masculine spirit person to her online Spiritualist church meeting several years ago.  It occurred in an online Skype meeting when she happened to be lecturing that day.  She was unaware of him because her eyes were closed as she spoke (she routinely lectures online with eyes closed). Three women living in three different states:  California, Oregon, and Arizona who had studied mediumship with her and attended that day saw a man on their computer screens as he crossed from Pat’s hall doorway through the room where Pat’s service was held, passing behind Pat at her computer and disappearing at the window beside her.  Later, she learned that there are many working to develop equipment with which to capture this sort of thing on Skype and that, if this was a genuine occurrence, it would be considered quite rare.

Books about electronic voice phenomena (EVP) like “Miracles in the Storm,” by Mark H. Macy, stress that these communications come from the Other Side of life.  They describe that side as being what some call Heaven, what others call the astral plane, or Summerland, etc.  Pat Chalfant now ponders:  If we can see heavenly spirits on earth, how can Christ ever be far away from us?  Mr. Macy’s book states that there is a quotation in the Bible referring to something that makes it sound like EVP might have been known about in those long ago times.

We know also that those experiencing NDE’s often report Christ assisting them to assess their “Life after death Review” and ushering them on tours of the Other Side, as well.  Whatever interpretation one may choose to apply to what, for Pat, is a never-to-be-forgotten Spiritualist meeting, she hopes her report of it may strengthen the belief of many others in life after death, as well.  Many spirits who communicate through Mr. Macy’s EVP setup sincerely wish to reassure us all of life after death, as well, according to the messages they bring to and through him.

Pat's inspirational book, 'Spirit Lights A Path To Mediumship', explains how Pat, a real skeptic regarding such matters, developed mediumship abilities and now lives a life transformed by the spiritual. Mediumship is a controversial issue and Pat understands this, but she also believes that credible mediumship holds the promise of real benefits for mankind that have not been fully explored.

In addition to offering one-on-one client consultations, Pat has penned the 'Spirit Lights Song Book' and three of those songs are in the National Spiritualist Association of Churches hymn book. There are samples of the words and music on her web site, http://www.patchalfant.com, and ‘Spirit Lights’ song books for sale there, too. She does readings for clients by phone and teaches mediumship development classes. She has also created a DVD entitled 'Spirit Lights Development DVD'.

Pat Chalfant's Youtube channel is now available at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9qOQWIWR-DUL8hBDqE5TnQ.

Pat Chalfant is currently appearing on The Authors Show. Her interview is available now at The Authors Show site. 'Spirit Lights A Path To Mediumship' is available at her website and at Amazon. Pat is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at pat.chalfant@patchalfant.com. She is also available for inspirational lectures. More information can be found at her website at http://www.patchalfant.com.

About Pat Chalfant:

Oregon Spiritualist Medium Pat Chalfant's amazing psychic gifts have helped hundreds of individuals worldwide. Pat has written a column on parapsychology and interviewed Hollywood stars and the psychics who read for them for a national newspaper. Other topics she’s taught and written about are: past life therapy, death and dying, the Edgar Cayce work, the Cathars, and Spiritual healing.

The Association for Past Life Research and Therapies newsletter published a series of her interviews with psychiatrists, psychologists, and hypnotherapists who were all west coast pioneers of past life therapy. Pat believes that series is destined to become a book.

Proof Of The Afterlife Will Likely Not Be Found By Science Says Brian McLaughlin, Author Of 'A Flight Without Wings, My Experience With Heaven'

McLaughlin's book about his NDE details his totally unique near death experience. It is raw and it's real. There is no embellishment, no preaching and no hidden agenda. He believes both science and spirituality are correct

A recent article on the Telegraph website entitled "First hint of 'life after death' in biggest ever scientific study" presented information that was published in the journal 'Resuscitation'. A group of University of Southampton scientists spent four years and looked at 2,000 cases in which patients suffered cardiac arrests. The information was gathered from 15 hospitals in the US, the UK and Austria. Dr David Wilde, a research psychologist at Nottingham Trent University, was quoted in the article, stating, "There is some very good evidence here that these experiences are actually happening after people have medically died."

There is a huge divide between science and spirituality. On one side stand the scientists who believe that the near death experience cannot be proven scientifically. On the other side are those of faith, who believe that the near death experience is real nevertheless. Brian McLaughlin, author of 'A Flight Without Wings, My Experience With Heaven' believes both sides are correct. A mental experience cannot be proven scientifically. Yet there is no doubt that something has happened during that mental experience. Even Albert Einstein was open to the possibility that the "spookiness" of some aspects of quantum physics could be the result of something science was not able to measure at the time.

In a recent interview McLaughlin stated:  “How can science prove or disprove what you believe? It can’t.  Scientists look for proof of an afterlife, when in fact using the typical methods with today’s theories, really IS impossible. Often times, in debates of this issue, the science end of the spectrum try to get answers from the 'believer' end of the same spectrum. People in general are hanging on to every thread and breakthrough on the consciousness after death argument. This is just the wrong way to investigate this phenomenon.  Dr. Ray Moody alluded to the same suggestion as Albert Einstein.  They both suggest to some degree that science and scientific theory has to catch up to human realities.

"The nature of a Near Death Experience (NDE) is cerebral. All physical properties of one’s body are left behind. Believing in the afterlife requires a certain measure of faith, or spirituality. The concept of God surely is one that science cannot prove or disprove.  It falls into a realm which lies beyond our 5 senses and 3 dimensions.

"During my own NDE, I experienced telepathic type communication. Information, along with understanding and clarity were filling me like a dry sponge. It was almost exhausting.  When I returned, I realized that I had no sense of time there, and from the knowledge and understanding I came back with had to be done at lightning speed as I was only there for a short time (assuming).

"As you might imagine, this would be as hard to prove as any other facet of the experience.  I am comfortable with the cryptic nature of the event because I have had 20+ years of epiphanies that have validated the event for me.  There is more than enough room here for both sides to be right… The perspective just comes from a different direction in each case.”

A Flight Without Wings' offers us a look at the near death experience from an unbiased point of view. It is the presentation of the material that sets this book apart from the other books about the near death experience. It is raw and it's real. There is no embellishment and no hidden agenda. While his book has a spiritual flavor certainly, there is no preaching and no religious messages. It is his near-death experience, just as it happened.

McLaughlin's experience changed the course of his life forever.  It instilled in him what we all seek - certainty about life after death. And with that a peace of  mind that can never be shaken, nor can it be doubted. His near death experience brought a sense of clarity. It brought a sense of real, lasting peace. He now knows with certainty that we exist forever. It is that simple message he brings to his audience, both through his book and at his speaking engagements.

Brian McLaughlin will be making several live appearances in the Long Island, NY area in the coming months:

Sat.  Sept. 3 -  Freeport, NY- Book Signing

Brian McLaughlin was chosen as one of '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' in 2015. Reviews of 'A Flight Without Wings' have been overwhelmingly positive. Dr. Penny Sartori, author of 'The Wisdom of Near-Death Experiences', said "This book will help others who have had an NDE to make sense of their experience and will also help those close to someone who has had an NDE because NDEs affect close family members and friends too."

Jack Magnus, a reviewer with Readers Favorite, called the book a "well written and moving memoir that neither delves into the fanciful or dogmatic,...”  "…Well worth reading, and is highly recommended." Another stated, "Being a mother who lost her only child I found it to be a great comfort to me." Another said, "I have read many accounts such as these, but this beautifully written account simply touched my heart in ways that previous ones have not."

Mark Feuerstein, Actor (Royal Pains, USA Network) wrote: “I have read it and I think it’s an inspiring tale of deep insight and so personal and yet so universal . . . such profound perspective.”

Five Myths About Adult Brothers and Sisters Debunked By Jane Mersky Leder, Author Of The Sibling Connection: How Siblings Shape Our Lives

Leder’s groundbreaking ebook for adult brothers and sisters provides insight into sibling relationships and how those relationships dramatically affect our lives from childhood through old age

Unlike the majority of books about siblings, Leder’s ebook targets adult readers—parents, siblings, teachers, counselors, and grandparents.

Eighty percent of us have at least one sibling. Yet as Leder explores in her ebook, myths about adult siblings cloud our understanding of the longest relationship we have.

MYTH #1:  Birth Order - How many times have you been asked if you’re the oldest, the middle child, the youngest?  It’s that birth order theory: when you were born in relation to your sibling(s) makes you who you are.

FACT:  Birth order is just one of many factors that mold your character.  In fact, some studies show that the order in which you were born is no more accurate than your astrological sign.  So take your order in the sibling hierarchy as just ONE piece of the personality puzzle.

MYTH #2:  Siblings, no matter when they are born, grow up in the same family.

FACT:  Every sibling grows up in a different family.  The relationship between parents has likely changed as have parenting styles.  (Often, parents are more relaxed with younger children as they’ve been through the drill before.)  The economics of the family may also have changed.  Maybe the mother has gone back to work, or the dad has been promoted or changed professions.  And, of course, as at least one more sibling is added to the mix, relationships between siblings will be reorganized, too.

MYTH #3:  Once connections between siblings are set in childhood, they cannot be changed in adulthood.

FACT:  Sibling relationships can change over time.  Close connections during childhood can be more distant during adolescence and young adulthood.  Siblings who fight when they are younger may become much closer as they age.  The sibling connection is fluid.  There is always the chance of making a bad relationship better.  Conversely, a close connection can become frayed.

MYTH #4:  The death of a parent brings siblings closer together.

FACT:   Yes, there are many stories of siblings working together to care for a parent who is dying and who share the other tough decisions of funerals, legal matters, and the execution of a will.  These siblings find strength in each other.  On the other hand, there are many stories of siblings who fight over important decisions or who don’t show up at all.  For them, conditions of the will can cause serious problems, particularly when a sibling feels she has been shortchanged.

MYTH #5:  Politics and relationships are the top two topics that can cause the most disagreement between siblings.

FACT:  Those topics may cause problems.  But according to a respected author/expert, sex and money are the two most toxic subjects.  Better to keep your earning power and sexual exploits (or not) under wraps when comparing notes with your adult siblings.

"Up until very recently, there was little study of the sibling relationship.  Brothers and sisters were seen as minor players in our lives.  Research now underscores the importance of the sibling connection and the many ways that our siblings help us better understand ourselves and the adults we’ve become."

The Sibling Connection has received praise from readers and reviewers alike. Publisher's Weekly said, "Sensitively written, valuable addition to the family psychology field." An Amazon reader called it, "A book to be read by everyone."

Jane Mersky Leder is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at j.leder@comcast.net. The Sibling Connection: How Siblings Shape Our Lives is available at all online book sites, including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Kobo. More information can be found on her website at http://www.janeleder.net.

Jane Mersky Leder is fascinated by the complexities of relationships between generations, between genders, and between our personal and public personas.

The Story Of Olympic Swimmer Ardiana Corderu, Who Defected To The United States, Is Detailed In David Michael Palladino's 'Quest For Freedom'

David Michael Palladino writes inspirational fiction for young readers. His works teach important ideals and values. He utilizes engaging works of fiction to accomplish that goal

While the Leftist Politicians and the leftist US media are playing political games with the issue of immigration these days, many seem to be missing the key point. The desire to immigrate to the United States is held by people worldwide because America is the greatest country in the world. That is the point, and is ultimately the driving force behind immigration.

Immigration and defection, regardless of how they are sliced and diced, are really about people's desire to live in freedom and to escape repression. Defections during the Olympics have a long history, and include the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, the 1964 Winter Olympics in Austria, the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. Defections have also occurred in 1972, 1976, 1980, 1984 and 1996.

The escape from Soviet Communism and the quest for freedom is the theme of 'Quest For Freedom'. Set in the Cold War era, the book is the engaging story of Adriana Corderu and her quest to obtain freedom by escaping the Iron Curtain.

David Michael Palladino, author of 'Quest For Freedom', writes inspirational fiction for young people. He teaches, through his works of fiction, important ideals and values. As a former U.S. Army Ranger, former High School Phys-Ed & Health Teacher and Coach, and founder of “Palladino Martial Arts”, he understands the significance of instilling these all-important ideals and values in young people. 'Quest For Freedom' helps communicate freedom's true meaning to a younger audience. For this reason it will appeal to parents, grandparents and educators and those who are old enough to remember what America used to be. Palladino deftly paints a picture of America as she really was during the Cold War. He shows us clearly why American freedom and American values held such appeal for many oppressed people in other parts of the world.

During the first Cold War the world revolved around the conflict between the theologies of communism and democracy. The two main protagonists in this conflict were the United States in the West and the Soviet Union in the East. As Eastern Bloc leaders began to tighten restrictions in the lives of their people, commensurate with their increase in power, there began to emerge, in the East, a group of young people, hard and idealistic, adventurous and courageous. These would become the heroes of the movement of their time. These were the brave young souls who, with inspiration from President Reagan, began to break down the Iron Curtain. The escape from Soviet Communism and the quest for freedom is the theme of 'Quest For Freedom'. Set in the Cold War era, the book is the engaging story of Adriana Corderu and her quest to obtain freedom by escaping the Iron Curtain.

'Quest for Freedom' has received rave reviews. One reviewer stated, "More native born Americans need to know this story and more importantly appreciate our country as she did." Another said, "The readers become engrossed immediately in Palladino's dynamic effervescent style."

David Palladino is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at inspirationalbookauthor@yahoo.com. 'Adriana Corderu, Quest for Freedom' is available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Rosedog Books. More information, including samples of the book, is available at Palladino’s website at http://www.inspirationalbookauthor.com.

Romantic Fiction Author Rusty Blackwood Brings Romantic Fiction To A New Level Through Combining Classic Themes With Contemporary Events

Blackwood's 'Passions In Paris' and her latest 5 star romance novel, 'Willow's Walk' offer readers engaging romantic stories based in reality

Canadian indie author Rusty Blackwood produces engaging works of romantic fiction with a difference - her storylines hit home with readers as they are partially based in reality and real world situations that readers find highly relatable. The end effect of this approach is that readers can often put themselves squarely in the stories she presents. While that is the goal of many fiction writers, few can do it effectively.

Rusty states that the presentation of her themes come from personal experience, embellished with dramatic fictional events. She believes that most writers' inspiration comes from life experiences. She uses this to her advantage. In that respect, much of the nuance and flavors of the personalities of her heroines derive from her own personality and life.

Blackwood grew up on her paternal grandfather’s farm in south-western Ontario, Canada, where she developed her love of writing while still in grade school, entering numerous competitions and writing exhibitions throughout her area, and attributes her love of writing to her late father James, and the late Gladys Carroll, her elementary teacher.

Rusty firmly believes in going after what she wants, doing whatever is required to make it happen, and turning a deaf ear to anyone who says it cannot be done. She has faced many challenges throughout her life, emerging more determined with each. She is a firm believer in Karma and the adage that whatever you put out in life revisits you.

"From the time of early childhood I have always had an active imagination," Rusty stated. "My dad had a great love of poetry and art, finding color, dimension, and texture in all areas of the three which he passed along to me. I remember him telling me to find the soul in whatever I looked at, and along with Mrs. Carroll's stellar encouragement to express my words in the way I felt them, it would often lead to stories and poetry that could be viewed in many ways."

"I often used, and still use poetry as therapy to help me cope and come to terms with unsettling happenings in my life. It has always helped me, for it is through written word that I can better express myself, much more so than verbally. I enjoy writing many genres, but romance has always been my favorite. I am a hopeless romantic, and though I myself have not had the best luck in love, I continue to believe that there is that special 'someone' for each of us, regardless of how much time it takes to find them. This was very much the mindset behind the writing of 'Passions in Paris: Revelations of a Lost Diary'. I have always had a great affinity for Paris, France - anything Parisian for that matter - so I wanted to write a love story that was set there, one which told of a love that could exist throughout time; a love that could never be broken no matter what was set in its path. It took me ten years to write it, and I took parts of my life and inserted them into the story, embellishing them in ways that would make them more appealing to the reader; hopefully more entertaining as well."

"My newest novel, 'Willow's Walk', was derived very much in the same way, based in part on my own life experiences, and expressed in ways that hopefully not only entertain the reader, but might help them to realize what can derive from an innocent Internet salutation, or what is believed to be friendship. Many times it can be. It can also be safe to pursue; then again it might not, and the outcome can affect one's life in ways that is not only derogatory, but totally dire. One reads of these happenings everyday, yet people still venture forth, thinking all is well and it won't happen to them. Hopefully it won't, but it is always best to approach with caution, as you would with anything where you have no way of knowing the outcome."

"Writing brings me an outlet in which to express  thoughts, emotions, and to entertain not only my readers, but myself. It helps to read a story that brings satisfaction, or takes you down a road you would like to travel if you could. I did this in the pieces I have written, and I hope to continue to do so in the coming pieces I write. I don't think there is day I don't remember those encouraging words I was given so very long ago. I am extremely thankful to be able to express myself in an open manner, and in the many ways that I choose to."

'Willow's Walk' has received a number of 5 star reviews from professional reviewers. Maria Beltran stated, "I highly recommend this book." Gisela Dixon said, ". . . I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the life of a person presented in such a wonderful manner." Another said, "I was touched by the bittersweet conclusion that sometimes purpose and happiness are only found through great tragedy ..."

'Passions In Paris' has also received rave reviews. Linkk Kula Kane said, "Passions in Paris I think stands its ground with these other powerful romantic stories like 'The Notebook' by Nicolas Sparks." Reader Fred Pifer stated that 'Passions', " . . .is a fascinating book of a love story that seemed to be written with me in mind. In the book 'Love Story' by Erich Segal, he told of a deep abiding love story that reminds me of Cullen and Joy’s in Ms. Blackwood’s book, but the twists of intrigue and mystery that she adds keeps the reader on edge throughout."

Information on the new romantic fiction release, including a new book trailer, is available at Blackwood's site on the 'Willow' page. Readers can get more information on the paperback and Kindle versions of both books at Amazon sites worldwide, including Amazon.ca.

Rusty Blackwood is available for interview in the Toronto and Niagara areas and can be reached using the information below or by email at writerrusty@hotmail.ca. More information is available at her website at http://www.rusty-blackwood.com.

Sid Nachman, First Man In US With Bipolarism To Be Treated Successfully, Offers His Story In New Memoir Release, 'Bipolar Me'

Sid Nachman was the first person in the US to be diagnosed and successfully treated for bipolarism over 50 years ago. Sid writes engaging nonfiction books that revolve around his experiences growing up in Philadelphia

Sid Nachman was treated for bipolarism over 50 years ago, and was the first person in the US to have been successfully treated. 'Bipolar Me' is his memoir, a story that has garnered high praise from readers and reviewers alike.

Sid's no-holds-barred writing style and deft storytelling, combined with his own style of acerbic wit, takes readers on a trip through his life and his mind. It is filled with hilarious stories that show us that life is just plain good. BookLover USA said that the book is "A roller coaster ride through the mind of one of the funniest and endearing story-tellers of his generation."

'Bipolar Me' is a highly entertaining memoir that allows readers to take a ride with Sid into the unfettered mind of a bipolar boy who never grows up until his hair turns white. Readers will get to see his world in black and white and vivid color and will feel what he feels when he feels like he weighs three thousand pounds and a minute later can leap over tall buildings. Sid's life is a life gone wild that settles down when it’s almost too late.

“I wrote this book," Nachman stated, "to give readers a technicolor picture of how I grew up. My world was quite different than the one we live in today. Coddling and political correctness would be frowned upon and  quickly flushed down the toilet.  Heavens to Betsy, I was even allowed to make my own mistakes, learn something from them and reinforce what my parents told me. Come to think of it: Would it be so bad if we took a step backwards and learned something from it?

Sid Nachman is also the author of 'Strictly For Seniors' - a nonfiction work of short stories about what happened to Sid "after breakfast on Delancey Street" in West Philly during the 30’s and 40’s when his Mom gave him a big hug and kiss and sent him on his way.  Sid had great fun, survived bullying by hitting the bigger boys about the head with his violin case and developed his own singular brand of “street smarts".

Both of Nachman's books have received fantastic reviews. One stated, "Like James Joyce, Sid Nachman can take the ordinary and turn it into magic with a fluency that's imperceptible." Another said "Sid's stories touch the human soul with wit, charm and realism."

Sid Nachman is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at mollymax210@gmail.com. Both books are available at Amazon. More information, including samples from the books and a recent interview with The Authors Show, is available at his website at http://www.sidnachman.com.

About Sid Nachman:

Sid Nachman was the only child of immigrant parents from Russia and Germany who tried for 13 years to have him and were very tired from trying so hard. His initials are S.I.N. for Sidney Irving Nachman. He never found out if he was a sin or a joy. Sid resides in Florida with his wife, Linda and his golden retriever Molly and in spite of his big mouth is still loved by all.

Battle Of Waterberg Genocide Anniversary - Mari Serebrov, Author Of 'Mama Namibia' Issues Statement On First Genocide Of The 20th Century

August 11 marked the 112th anniversary of the Battle of Waterberg, the turning point in a series of events which led to the near extermination of the Herero people. 'Mama Namibia' is a riveting historical novel that relates that series of events as experienced by a 12-year-old Herero girl

August 11 marked the 112th anniversary of the Battle of Waterberg, the pivotal event in the Herero genocide – the first genocide of the 20th century. While the Holocaust, the Armenian genocide, the Bosnian genocide and others stand out in our collective memory, the genocide of the Herero people is not as well known in the Western world. Award-winning journalist Mari Serbrov's historical novel 'Mama Namibia' gives us a fascinating, first-person account of those horrific events as told through the eyes of a 12-year-old girl, Jahohora.

Systematically forced off their land in what was then German South-West Africa, thousands of Herero families had fled to the Waterberg with their livestock and earthly possessions. All they wanted was peace.

Then Aug. 11, 1904, dawned. It was the day German Gen. Lothar von Trotha planned to annihilate the Herero, regardless of age or gender or guilt or innocence. “We must exterminate them to ensure they never rise up against us again,” he told his troops as they prepared for the slaughter.

Although many Herero were killed that day, von Trotha’s plan to immediately wipe them from the earth failed. Herero warriors – fighting only with rifles, knives and clubs – proved they were a match to Germany’s well-trained troops with their superior weapons.

At nightfall, the exhausted Herero took stock of the situation. Knowing they didn’t have enough ammunition to hold off the German artillery a second day, they looked for an escape. Using the darkness to cloak their movement, tens of thousands of Herero fled quietly into the night toward the only direction open to them – the Kalahari Desert.

Angered by their flight, von Trotha pursued the Herero, poisoning the waterholes behind them to ensure they didn’t escape the death of the desert. Later, those who did survive were condemned to German death camps and subjected to medical experiments. When the genocide finally ended, 85 percent of the Herero were dead.

Based on the true story of the daughter of a traditional healer, 'Mama Namibia' details Jahohora’s journey as she searches for her family while hiding from the German soldiers. Wasting away in the desert, Jahohora is about to give up her desperate struggle for life when she finds hope in a simple act of kindness from a Jewish doctor serving in the German army.

"Today," Serebrov said, "the world still ignores the reality of the Herero genocide, just as it continues to turn its head from modern-day genocides, focusing instead on the latest celebrity gossip, a favorite sports team, political name-calling or the newest fashions in clothing and cars. Albert Einstein said insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. By now, we should realize that we can’t stop genocides by looking away or pretending they didn’t happen."

'Mama Namibia' has received rave reviews. One reader said, "Thank you for writing this book - touching, amazing, wonderful, sad, inspiring . . . a must read and one of the best books I've ever read." Another stated, "This book is a must read for anyone who is interested in history, troubled by its propensity to repeat itself and stunned that this story has never been told to a large audience before. It leaves the reader wondering how many more genocides have been quietly buried in the past."

Serebrov is a meticulous researcher and passionate author. She was named the literary laureate of the Herero Tribal Authority in 2013. She has authored a number of other books, including 'The Life and Times of W.H. Arnold of Arkansas' and a children’s book, 'Jahohora and First Day.' ‘Mama Namibia’ is the first and only work of fiction to be included on Genocide Watch’s list of resources.

In regards to 'Mama Namibia' and the Herero genocide, she has been interviewed by Al Jazeera, The Namibian, New Era, the Windhoek Observer and other African publications. She appeared on "Good Morning, Namibia" and was interviewed on several national radio programs in Namibia.

She also was recently interviewed for an article on the genocide for 'Down To Earth', a biweekly science and environment journal published by the Centre for Science and Environment, an environmental think tank and advocacy group based out of New Delhi, India.

Serebrov is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at mari.serebrov@yahoo.com. All of her works, including 'Mama Namibia,' are available at Amazon and other book retailers. More information is available at her website at http://www.mariserebrov.com.

About Mari Serebrov:

An award-winning journalist with a passion for history, Mari Serebrov has authored a variety of books, including 'The Life and Times of W.H. Why Science Fails In The Attempt To Save The Environment, The Animals And The Planet - Ethologist Ila France Porcher Issues Statement

Science might be able to save all of them, if humans made the right choices, based on scientific facts, rather than their beliefs

Earlier this year, National Geographic featured an article entitled “The War on Science,” which questions why many scientific claims face a storm of opposition from the public. It explains that these criticisms result from a tendency to believe in one's religious or political position, rather than in the facts, which is a recent finding by Dan Kahan of Yale University.

This bothers Ethologist Ila France Porcher, as in her opinion the problems with modern science which might contribute to this public attitude were not examined. The sole explanation offered was that people entertaining such doubts are lacking in the correct powers of reasoning because they fail to apply the scientific method.

"To take an example," Porcher stated, "the current opposition to GMO foods was not presented in the context in which these products were actually produced and marketed. A citizen who is aware that GMOs have been developed under the control and for the profit of multi-national corporations, rather than the public good, has every reason to be skeptical."

"Some of those same companies are responsible for the widespread poisoning of the biosphere, having created the 'war on pests,' decade after decade, through persuasive advertising, for profit, without ever concerning themselves with the future results."

"Other multi-national companies spent hundreds of millions of dollars to promote the idea that climate change is a hoax, so public confusion about that is not surprising, either."

"When one looks out across the ravaged earth, National Geographic's statement 'Modern science is based on things it got right,' appears in a different light. In addition to widespread pollution and the destabilization of the climate, human activity has caused the sixth mass extinction, the tropical forests needed to support the life-giving atmosphere are devastated, and the oceans are showing signs of ecological collapse."

"Why, at the height of science's glory, has it had such a destructive effect on the planet upon which we all depend? Why has it offered no guidance to humanity, as civilization expanded, in controlling international events, or finding practical solutions to such serious developments as the threats of nuclear annihilation, and human population growth, which have resulted in dire global problems?

"One important reason is that for a material science in a material world, money has been a decisive factor in determining the direction taken by scientific research."

The full statement is available at her website.

Ila France Porcher is the author of several highly acclaimed books on shark behavior - 'My Sunset Rendezvous, Crisis in Tahiti',  'The Shark Sessions', and 'Sharks : As Animals and Individuals,' which will soon be released. In these books she presents evidence for complex intelligent behavior in shark populations. The foreword to 'The Shark Sessions' was written by shark ethologist Samuel H. 'Doc' Gruber, founder of Bimini Shark Lab and the American Elasmobranch Society. He called the book "a jewel of a story."

It includes an essay by Dr. Johann Mourier, describing his findings on these sharks, which he came to study after they were protected. What he has learned about them throws light on some of the questions raised by her study.

Following the precepts of the field of cognitive ethology, and later with the guidance of world class marine ethologist Dr. Arthur A. Myrberg Jr., formerly of the University of Miami, Ila learned to interpret shark behavior. Part of her study was subsequently published in the peer-reviewed journal Marine Biology, and some of her observations, presented at an International symposium on cognition, are considered to be the first documented evidence of cognition in sharks.

She is also credited with the discovery of a way to study these much maligned predators that does not involve killing them, and was dubbed “the Jane Goodall of Sharks,” for her documentation of their intelligent behavior, while giving a presentation about them at the University of Miami.

Porcher created a mini-documentary to complement the Shark Week entertainment this year, which shows actual footage of the sharks she studied, and some surprising shark behavior.

The full text of the recent statement on science is available at Porcher's website. Ila is available for media interviews and can be reached by email at ilafranceporcher@gmail.com. Her mini documentary on sharks is available on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hryPvS5cmqM. More information is available at her website at http://ilafranceporcher.wix.com/author.

About  Ila France Porcher:

Ila France Porcher is a self-taught, published ethologist. She grew up in British Columbia, Canada, and at an early age became fascinated by watching and drawing wild animals. As a result, she naturally became a wildlife artist, and as time passed, began documenting the behaviour of the animals she observed and painted, being especially intrigued by actions suggesting intelligence and cognition.

Scientific Proof Of The Afterlife Will Never Be Found By Researchers Says Brian McLaughlin, Author Of 'A Flight Without Wings, My Experience With Heaven'

McLaughlin's book about his NDE details his totally unique near death experience. It is raw and it's real. There is no embellishment, no preaching and no hidden agenda

While most people would love to see scientific proof of the afterlife, it is very unlikely that the existence of an afterlife will be found by scientific researchers, for a number of reasons.

Only a very small percentage of scientists believe in the afterlife and do not consider it worthy of study. When we combine that with the fact that an NDE is a mental experience and not a physical event we begin to realize that proof of the afterlife lies beyond the reach of science. Brian McLaughlin, author of an award winning book about the near death experience, 'A Flight Without Wings', believes science will never get there because science CANNOT get there.

"Some people may have noticed in the recent past, headlines that indicate scientific proof of an afterlife," McLaughlin stated. "The criteria that is used in metaphysical studies or quantum physics has not changed. There is no way to prove the existence of an afterlife or Heaven that way."

"A certain measure of spirituality is critical to the proof of the afterlife theories. Proving a realm beyond our 5 senses and 3 dimensions is impossible using traditional scientific methods.  Progressive thinking that falls outside that strict envelope is required, but difficult to accept for some.  Determining causation may be  difficult to the traditional scientist, so  one may need to examine the theories of people like Dr. Ray Moody, or Deepak Chopra, or even Amit Goswami.  It appears that their thinking is open ended, with more infinite possibilities."

"This proof we seek, for an afterlife and/or Heaven has to come from someplace outside our 'normal' methods. While science demands something tangible, an NDE is not and will never be tangible."

"Ask the questions… how would anyone describe absolute and total peace? Or pure love without agenda? Or freedom from fear?  Can we smell it- touch it- feel it- see it or taste it? These are the 5 senses used in traditional science to 'prove' things. Peace, love, or fearlessness falls outside those measurements. We will need to use unconventional means to establish 'proof'.  Most people are satisfied believing that there is or isn’t an afterlife, just based on their upbringing, or the belief systems they have defined through life. Those who require proof will have to embrace a more progressive way of thinking."

'A Flight Without Wings' offers us a look at the near death experience from an unbiased point of view.

Sat.  August 27 - Rockville Center, NY - Street Fair
Sat.  Sept. 3 -  Freeport, NY- Book Signing

"If science goes looking for a man in the sky with a flowing gray beard, it will never find that certainly," McLaughlin concluded. "Yet science can prove there is a life force. How we use the word 'God' is a personal choice. Science can prove the existence of God, if we use the term 'God' in a different context. Likewise science can prove consciousness survives death of the body, but cannot prove the experience of love, peace or joy consciousness has after the death of the body."

Brian McLaughlin is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at bamplaya@msn.com. 'A Flight Without Wings' is available at Amazon, Payhip and other book retailers. More information is available on his website at: http://www.BrianMcLaughlinBooks.com.

Children's Book Author George Long Announces Lesson Plan Now Available For 'Pocketful Of Dreams', Character Building Book For Kids

'Pocketful Of Dreams' is available in print and digital editions and is also available in a Teacher’s Edition. The Teacher’s Edition includes a unit plan for K-2 teachers, written by a veteran first grade teacher

Children's book author George Long has announced that a Teacher's Edition Lesson Plan for K-2 teachers is now available for 'Pocketful Of Dreams'. 'Pocketful OFDreams' teaches children valuable character building lessons such as integrity, honesty, taking the initiative, telling the truth and much more. The book is available in a Teacher’s Edition, which includes a unit plan for K-2 teachers, written by a veteran first grade teacher.

It’s bedtime, and Momma tucks her girls into bed and says, “Happy Dreams.” Karen and Sue are off to sleep. Floating in a midnight sky, they dream their favorite dream. They dream of a garden wonderland where flowers bloom like candy for the picking. When they wake, they crave the sweets from their dream. To earn candy money, the two sisters open a lemonade stand—the symbol of the entrepreneurial spirit of America’s youth. They soon learn that running a real-life business is not as easy as picking candy from trees in a dreamscape. A hole in their money bag leaves them penniless, and they face hard lessons about responsibility and doing the right thing. Resourceful and imaginative, the sisters set a great example of how teamwork and honesty pay off.

“My mission is to create life-enriching stories for children and their parents to enjoy.”

All of Long's books are 'dyslexic friendly' as Mr. Long is dyslexic. He considers this to be an advantage, and he learned early on to compensate for this "disadvantage". The text boxes featured in 'Pocketful of Dreams' are designed with the dyslexic reader in mind.

Readers and educators alike have high praise for "Pocketful Of Dreams":
" . . . the lessons of integrity, honesty, taking the initiative, telling the truth and being responsible are timeless. There are many opportunities to use this book as a springboard in lessons about consumers and producers, character building and so much more."

"I like this book because the character building lessons are easy to learn."

"Your story is beautiful! It is written with such warmth and honesty.  The conclusion is neat and concise, yet still leaves room for imagination and dreaming. This heartfelt story would definitely be loved by the kids and parents at our library."

Three Videos By Quebec Children's Book Author Dr Nicole Now Available, Centered On Multi-Award Winning Children's Book 'Parents For Sale'

Dr. Nicole is a best-selling author, based in Quebec, who writes children’s books that educate, inspire and teach valuable life lessons

Multi-award winning Canadian children’s book author Dr. Nicole has announced that three new videos are now available. Both videos center on her award-winning children's book, 'Parents For Sale'. The first video focuses on the goals of the book and her motivation for writing it. The second one is 30 second book presentation. The third one is a video presentation of her appearance on The Authors Show in which she discusses 'Parents For Sale'.

In the traditions of Walt Disney and Dr. Seuss, Dr. Nicole breathes life into inanimate objects and wildly entertaining characters that engage children in powerful ways. Through parent/child interaction, her works develop a love for reading while helping children develop the most important skill of all - critical thinking. If a child can master the art of critical thinking, nearly everything else falls into place. Sadly, critical thinking is not always taught to young children.

Dr. Nicole’s books have won numerous awards. 'Parents For Sale', was a Bronze Medal winner in the 2015 Reader's Favorite International Book Awards Contest in the Children - Animals category. Other awards include 2015 Purple Dragonfly Books Award: Chapters Book: Honorable Mention; 2015 New York Book Festival: Children’s Book: Honorable Mention and the 2015 Hollywood Book Festival: Children’s Book: Honorable Mention. 'Parents For Sale' is Story Monster Approved, and has received a 5 Star rating from Readers’ Favorite. In addition to the Mom's Choice Award and silver medal to the 2016 Classic Literary Book Award in the educational book category, 'Strike At Charles' Farm /Grève à la ferme de Charles’ was named a runner-up in the 2015 Animals, Animals, Animals Book Awards and received an Honorable Mention; 2015 New England Book Festival. 'Are You Eating My Lunch?/Manges-tu mon lunch?' , Classic Literary Book Award Gold Medal and recipient of the first best picture book at the Classic Literary Book Award, has also received four 5 Star reviews from Readers’ Favorite and took a Mom's Choice Silver Award. Dr Nicole was named as a winner in the "50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading Book Awards" for 2015.

Dr. Nicole will be in attendance at the 2016 Literary Classics Annual Book Awards Event to be held on the weekend of October 15, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Dr. Nicole is entered in the 2016 '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading Book Awards'. '50 Great Writers' focuses on the story of the author, rather than on a particular book. Members of the public can read her entry and vote at The Authors Show site at http://www.theauthorsshow.com.

"My intentions regarding being an author are to inspire children to read, to set their imaginations free and to encourage good decision-making regarding health, safety and moral responsibility. Writing children’s books is a way for me to give back and be a positive source to the community. These videos present my work and my author journey. I dedicate my life to change the world one reader at a time."

Dr. Nicole has sold over 150,000 books in her career. She is highly regarded for her work with children’s books and a health guide for families. Her goals are to create in children a love for reading and to create interaction and engagement.

Dr. Nicole’s books have received high praise from reviewers. In regards to 'Are You Eating My Lunch?/Manges-tu mon lunch?', Grady Harp stated, "This is another little winner from Dr. Nicole - combining learning with entertainment. Such a fine style of writing she has established – making the reader want more. Highly recommended." In a review for 'Strike At Charles' Farm/Grève à la ferme de Charles’', Harp said, "Not only does Nicole write a fine story with an excellent moral, but she also adds questions about farm animals at the end for children ( and adults ) to learn whether they remember the facts of the story. Highly recommended book – whether you wish to read it in English or French."

No-charge copies of any of her books are available for University teachers, journalists and members of the media who provide email, website, mail address and phone number.

The videos are available at Dr. Nicole's site. Dr. Nicole is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below. New Short Film, 'The Truth, a Short Short Film', Now An Official Selection for the Chain Film Festival in Manhattan, August 13th, 2016

'The Truth, a Short Film', 16 minutes in length, premiered at the 2016 Garden State Film Festival and is now an Official Selection for the Golden Door International Film Festival. Dr. Holstein's award-winning books, plays and short films offer solutions to problems that impact today's teens and tweens and helps them develop positive self esteem

The new short two minute film by Positive Psychologist Barbara Becker Holstein, 'The Truth, A Short Short Film', premiered at FilmOneFest in July. The film has now been chosen as an Official Selection in the Chain Film Festival to be held in Manhattan on August 13, 2016. 'The Truth, a Short Film', a longer 16 minute portrayal of a girl growing up, has been officially selected for the Golden Door International Film Festival to be held in September 2016. 'The Truth' focuses on how teens communicate their deepest needs.

The use of social media by teenagers has been making headlines worldwide, with feature stories appearing everywhere, from NPR to Good Morning America. While a majority of these stories focus on the problems and potentially dangerous interactions created by the social media culture, few focus on solutions to these problems. Positive Psychologist and author Barbara Becker Holstein instead focuses on solutions. Her books, plays and short films have won numerous awards. 'The Truth, a Short Film', Official Choice of the Garden State Film Festival, 2016, premiered at the Garden State Film Festival on Sunday, April 3, 2016. 'On the Edge of Something New' the pop song composed for 'The Truth, a Short Film' by Jayne Critelli, won the award as the Best Pop Song, 2016. Dr. Holstein's stage play, 'The Locket', was presented at The Grange Playhouse on March 11-20, 2016 and received rave reviews. Both the new short film and the stage play center on Dr. Holstein's primary messages for teens, tweens and women of all ages.

"I have made two films so far.  One is 'The Truth, a Short Film' and the other is 'The Truth, a Short, Short Film'.  The first is 16 minutes long, the second 2 minutes.  You might ask, what is the difference?  The difference is that the two minute film brings to light the intense angst and upset that kids can experience as young teens, when they are ignored in family life decisions.  There is a lot to discuss after seeing this short film.  To whom is the girl talking?  Is she going public on social media somewhere?  Do her parents realize how upset she is? When were they planning to tell her?  How do we view the emotional needs and reactions of our young teens?  How honest are we prepared to be with them? You see there can be a great deal to talk about from a two minute film.  In fact, even the 25 second trailer is enticing.  It can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/177002777.

"My field is positive psychology.  I've dedicated over 25 years to this niche and started writing about it before the term came into use.  My terminology was a bit more flowery, THE ENCHANTED SELF(r).  That is the part of yourself that must be saved, preserved, brought to light again and again. It is the part with all your talents, strengths and potential within it.  It is what is right with you not what is wrong.  I was interested that the Wall Street Journal mentioned the importance of positive psychology just recently. http://blogs.wsj.com/experts/2016/06/27/the-one-question-therapists-dont-often-ask-but-should/. It is critical.

"That's why I reach out in my books, 'The Truth, Diary of a Gutsy Tween' and 'Secrets, Diary of a Gutsy Teen', my films, as mentioned above, even my play, 'The Locket' to keep saying in a dramatic fashion that we all need to hold on to the best of ourselves."

"Filming is just getting underway for 'Secrets'.  'Secrets' takes the girl into her next year of life and many new dramatic moments, both bad and good await her.  Megan Brown will be playing the girl.  Cassidy Terracciano, the previous star, is off to college.  Both girls are fabulous actresses.  I'm so excited.  Stay tuned!"

We see a girl in the throes of growing up keeping a diary on paper and also on her cell in video. In the diary she shares all her feelings and secrets. Who is the 'You' that she is also sharing her diary with? In today's world of likes, lols and longing to be seen, noticed, validated, talked about, often by 'friends' only known virtually, where are her deepest thoughts and longings going? Both the trailer, even in 47 seconds and the film 'The Truth, A Short Film' of 16 minutes are great to use to get kids and parents talking about today's social media world that we all live in.

A sequel to 'The Truth', 'Secrets'  is currently in production.  In the sequel, based on Secrets, Diary of a Gutsy Teen, a girl continues to share her most private thoughts and feelings on video, via her cell phone. Does she also keep a paper diary? Or is she now just communicating with someone in the outside world? If so, who is it? She is a year older and although she has matured, her longings and her hunger to find a home for her feelings and intense emotions are even stronger.  How will she handle all?
