Dr. Holstein believes that overcoming the Holiday blues is but the first step in a much larger constellation. She offers 8 powerful tips for 2014 that can help anyone start down the path to real success and to lead a fulfilled and joyous life
A recent article on the Time Magazine website entertainment section presented a list of movies that could help overcome the Holiday blues. The list included such notable movies as 'Eyes Wide Shut', 'Scent of a Woman' and 'Edward Scissorhands'. Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein, Positive Psychologist and developer of the Enchanted Self, believes the list could be improved and that there is much more that can be done to not only overcome the Holiday blues, but to also make 2014 the best year ever.
"Interesting list of movies," Holstein stated, "but as a positive psychologist and an expert in helping girls tweens, teens and women develop into their gutsy potential, I would suggest that we consider the healthy nostalgia that comes from connecting with some of the best winter movies ever. A few tears shed as we come home to 'A Miracle on 34th Street', 'A Christmas Story' or 'It's a Wonderful Life', are well shed."
"These are the movies that remind us that miracles can happen, the good guy can win, little kids can have their wishes fulfilled and life is worth living. Aren't these messages what the Holidays are all about? They help us come home to the best of ourselves and there is no better recipe for offsetting the Holiday Blues than being the best you can be."
Dr Holstein offers the following tips to improving one's attitude in the coming year:
1. Send a late present to someone you didn't include on your list or give to a charity you pushed aside.
2. Make three New Year's resolutions for yourself. Make one easy, one a little harder and one a stretch. Fold the paper and keep it in your wallet or pocketbook. Review once a month, modify if necessary.
3. Make sure you smile every day at a least one person.
4. Compliment at least one person a day and make it real. For example, you may not want to wear that purple scarf on Jane, but you can honestly say it looks good on her.
5. Play a good deed forward at least once a month, such as paying ahead in line for the person's cup of coffee that is behind you in line.
6. Remember yourself with small treats and time to replenish. You and the world will benefit from you taking care of yourself.
7. Talk to the people in your life, including your kids, without your cell phone in hand.
8. Don't drive and text. Staying alive is essential for all of the above.
Dr. Holstein is a prolific writer who crosses genres with ease. Dr. Holstein's book for teens and tweens, ‘The Truth, (I’m a girl, I’m Smart and I Know Everything)’ is a first in positive psychology. It is a fiction book for girls, tweens and teens. Written by an 11 year old girl as a diary, Dr. Barbara has embedded within the story positive truths and concepts geared to help girls develop self-esteem and resiliency. Sky Pony Press will be publishing The Truth in the summer of 2014.
Her second book in The Truth Series is 'Secrets: You Tell Me Yours and I’ll Tell You Mine…Maybe!’ Now the girl is 13. She handles many adolescent issues, including a crush, moving, a death in the family, feeling fat and problems with girlfriends. 'Secrets' provides a book kids and parents and grandparents can share and use as a sounding board for needed communication between the generations.
Both 'The Truth' and 'Secrets' are great for grandparents, older siblings and teachers to establish lines of communication with the tweens in their lives. Both books will be re-released by Sky Pony Press.
Dr. Holstein believes that getting in touch with your strengths, talents and potential at every age, as well as learning how to hold on to the wise, playful, happy, gutsy and energetic girl that still resides within each woman is essential for mental health.
To assist this process she has written many books, including: case study material as presented in The Enchanted Self, A Positive Therapy; inspirational stories as presented in Recipes for Enchantment, The Secret Ingredient is YOU! and romance, mystery books designed to bring fun and learning into women's lives. Latest books are: Parts 1 and 2 of Next Year in Jerusalem! available in paper and as e-books; Parts 1,2 and 3 of Next Year in Jerusalem! incorporated into Around Every Corner on Kindle.

Author And Positive Psychologist Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein Presents Page To Stage Reading Of 'Around Every Corner'
Ocean Township Hadassah in Ocean Township NJ hosted the event on November 19th, 2013. The presentation was directed by Bob Angelini of ReVision Theatre
On November 19th, Ocean Township Hadassah hosted a very special evening for their members at Congregation Torat El in Ocean Township with guest author and psychologist Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein. Dr. Holstein presented a page to stage reading of 'Around Every Corner'. The presentation was directed by Bob Angelini of ReVision Theatre in Asbury Park which was based on Dr. Holstein's book trilogy 'Next Year in Jerusalem' which has just been reissued on Amazon's Kindle as Around Every Corner, Romance & Mystery.... The performers were Amy Goldman as 'Natalie', Alan Goldman as 'Jack' and Susan Belfer as 'Maggie'.
"I found it exciting," stated Dr. Holstein, "to combine my expertise as a psychologist with my writing talents. I think readers will enjoy the result - a story filled with romance, intrigue, mystery, travel and spiritual awakenings."
In 'Next Year In Jerusalem', two women face extraordinary circumstances in one of the most spiritual, mysterious, romantic cities in the world. In this new novel, the reader is taken into the depths of confusion and mixed feelings that the protagonists, Natalie and Maggie, experience as they fall into mystery, spiritual awakenings and romance. The three parts of the 'Next Year In Jerusalem' trilogy have now been combined into a single edition and have been republished as 'Around Every Corner: Romance And Mystery . . . '.

Author And Positive Psychologist Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein Announces Book Publication, Issues Statement On Raising Self Esteem For Girls
New York City recently unveiled a $333,000 project entitled The NYC Girls Project, the first campaign by a major city aimed at girls' body image. Dr. Holstein, author of 'The Truth', feels this is a major step forward in helping female teens and tweens
New York City has unveiled a major project to help young girls raise self-esteem, specifically in regards to body image. The NYC Girls Project will address self-esteem issues at 75 after school programs and will include a Twitter campaign. Samantha Levine, an aide to Mr. Bloomberg, conceived the project when she became aware that very young girls were getting plastic surgery and even wearing body-shaping garments in an effort to achieve a positive self image.
"I'm so thrilled," stated Dr. Holstein, "with the NYC Girls Project. I love that people, even while sitting in a taxi, will watch 30-second videos of girls of all types, proud of who they are and what they love to do. Congratulations to NYC for recognizing the potential danger in letting our kids feel bad or sad about themselves."
"We all know that we can't all be models or superthin or even athletic. The problem is that we get caught up as a society around certain artificial values, forgetting that beauty starts inside out, not outside in."
"As a psychologist my mission is to help girls, tweens and teens value themselves. Every girl deserves to be happy in who she is and how she feels about herself. In The Truth (I'm a girl, I'm smart and I know everything) I made sure that the girl who keeps the diary always finds a way, even under the pressures of life, such as moving to a new town, a crush, trouble with a best friend, parents fighting, etc. to be true to herself. Every page of the book is designed to help any girl reading the book, even one who has felt bad about herself, to start to feel proud and more sure of herself. Every girl deserves to be a winner."

Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein Teaches Schoolchildren How To Turn Diary Entries Into Books
Dr. Holstein is both a Positive Psychologist and the author of ''The Truth (I'm A Girl, I'm Smart And I Know Everything) Dr. Holstein recently appeared at Ocean Township Intermediate School in Monmouth County, New Jersey to encourage children to become authors
Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein recently appeared at Ocean Township Intermediate School in Monmouth County, New Jersey. Dr. Holstein was one of six authors invited to teach talented groups of 6th graders who wish to refine their writing skills. This year marks her fourth year as a guest author. Next year she will be inaugurated into the school's Hall of Fame.
Dr. Holstein taught six different classes of 6th graders in the course of the day. Her topic was "From Diary Entry to Fiction, Poetry and More." After sharing a ‘Truth for Girls’ video, 'The Truth for Girls, Puberty, Mood Swings and More', Dr. Holstein taught the children how to first write a diary entry and then how to change, modify, exaggerate or brainstorm off of it, to turn it into a fictional work of some sort.
"The fiction that the students produced," Dr Holstein stated, "in a one-shot deal was fabulous. I was amazed at their abilities to use expressive language and to a full plot that could even expand into a book from just a short diary entry. Never underestimate the potential creative skills and ingenious ideas of kids. I can't wait to do this again."

In addition to running a thriving practice, Dr. Holstein is a very successful author across many genres. The human spirit, with its capacity for survival, growth and joy, has always been a subject of interest for Dr. Holstein. Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein Interviewed On Askimo TV Regarding How Childhood Behavior Influences Adult Behavior
Dr. Holstein is both a Positive Psychologist and the author of ''The Truth (I'm A Girl, I'm Smart And I Know Everything) Dr. Holstein recently appeared on Askimo TV, where she discussed the bearing childhood behavior has on us as adults
Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein recently appeared on Askimo TV where she discussed how important it is to understand how childhood behavior can influence our adult lives.
In the interview Dr Holstein answered many questions, including but not limited to:
How does our behaviour as children have a bearing on how we will be as adults?
How will understanding your 12 year old self impact your life positively now?
How does shyness affect us as adults?
How can we connect with our inner child?
How can we nurture the best of ourselves as we grow older?
Can we hold on to the energy and confidence we had as a child?
"We need to realize," stated Dr. Holstein, "that the way we were as kids affects the way we behave as adults and even our feelings and emotions. At the same time we need to honor aspects of ourselves that are part of our history as they contain the strengths, talents and potential that often lie dormant and you might even say, afraid to come out, within us. Our 'inner child' is calling out to us on many occasions. We need to learn how to listen and turn on our inner resources, no matter what our age.
On the other hand, we have to always remember to listen and connect to our children and grandchildren. The ways we handle them will have an affect on their strengths, talents and potential for the rest of their lives! There is no way around bringing up a child. Ignoring a child or not treating a child appropriately always has lasting consequences."
Her book, ‘The Truth, (I’m a girl, I’m Smart and I Know Everything)’ is a first in positive psychology. It is a fiction book for girls, tweens and teens. Written by an 11 year old girl as a diary, Dr. Barbara has embedded within the story positive truths and concepts geared to help girls develop self-esteem and resiliency
Her second book in The Truth Series is 'Secrets: You Tell Me Yours and I’ll Tell You Mine…Maybe!’ Now the girl is 13. She handles many adolescent issues, including a crush, moving, a death in the family, feeling fat and problems with girlfriends. Kids and parents have a book they can share and use as a sounding board for needed communication between the generations. Both 'The Truth' and 'Secrets' are great for grandparents, older siblings and teachers to establish lines of communication with the tweens in their lives.
In addition to running a thriving practice, Dr. Holstein is a very successful author across many genres. The human spirit, with its capacity for survival, growth and joy, has always been a subject of interest for Dr. Holstein. She recently released 'Next Year In Jerusalem Part Two: Around Every Corner Mystery & Romance in the Holy Land'. The new romance novel is the second in the 'Jerusalem Trilogy'. Combining her talents as a writer and a psychologist has resulted in a storyline filled with romance, intrigue, mystery, and spiritual awakenings. Being a new romance book, 'Next Year In Jerusalem' is a work of fantasy that serves a greater purpose.
In 'Next Year In Jerusalem', two women face extraordinary circumstances in one of the most spiritual, mysterious, romantic cities in the world. Part 2 in this trilogy expands upon the adventures of Natalie and Maggie, best friends since college, who find themselves steeped in the romance, mysticism and mystery of Jerusalem.
