Sylvia Lafair is the founder of Creative Energy Options (CEOinc), a global business consulting firm and the world’s leading authority in Pattern Breakthrough Leadership Development, a Top Global Leadership Guru and award-winning author
The headlines in 2017 have been filled with story after story about how the role of women in Western society has dramatically changed for the better. From politics to entertainment and everything in between, we have watched history unfold as women have stopped asking for equality and instead have taken charge, stepping into leadership roles across all segments of our society. Women no longer talk about change, hope for change or ask permission to change - they instead make change.
Multi-award winning author Sylvia Lafair has written the book on what it takes for women to speak out, take risks, and stand at the leading edge of change. Entitled 'GUTSY', it is the playbook for women in 2018 and beyond. Readers will learn to Observe and Understand behaviors that have stood in the way of true collaboration, and Transform into the world of outstanding partnership (OUT). From exploring models of being gutsy, to what it means to have a pink or blue blanket, her wildly entertaining book gives readers the map to build a future completely unlike the past.
"Women today can, as I often say, 'clear the past to free the future' by standing on the shoulders of Gutsy women such as Abigail Adams, Katharine Hepburn, Arianna Huffington and Sheryl Sandberg," Lafair stated. "I strongly believe that we are at a tipping point, as my book shows, to redesign relationships between men and women for the benefit of all of us."
'Gutsy: How Woman Leaders Make Change' has received eight major industry awards including best business book at the San Francisco Book Festival (2012), The Southwest Book Festival (2013) and the Paris Book Festival (2013).
Lafair appeared on the Today show with Kathie Lee and Hoda to discuss effective use of the slower vacation months of summer to prepare for requesting a promotion in the fall - by being clear and direct rather than waiting to be asked.
She was given an award as one of the top 25 Women in Business by the NEPA Business Journal and The National Association of Women Business Owners for her mentoring to help women move beyond being pleasers to become truth tellers. She explores how to breakthrough outdated patterns learned in childhood that no longer support positive growth in the workplace.
'Gutsy: How Women Leaders Make Change' has received high praise from industry leaders of every kind across the USA:
“This book hits the spot for every business woman, actually every woman. It helped me rethink, reclaim, and reinvent my priorities for work and home. I am stronger and more willing to take a stand for what I believe in and not hold back.”
Joanne LaMarca, TV Producer, Today
“I bought the book for my wife and out of curiosity started to read. She didn’t get it till I was finished. I truly understand her better. Even more, I communicate differently at work and big dividend, I can be a stronger ally in helping my daughter grow into a strong woman.”
Mark Siegel, Sr. Vice President , MJC Corp.
“GUTSY, the book and the workshop were life changers for me. I am more able to speak out sooner and encourage my staff to be better truth tellers so issues don’t fester. The world has changed and the world of playing it safe and being pleasers, the one I inherited from my mother, no longer works. I suggest males as well as females read this eye- opening book.”
Yvonne Cangelosi, President at SPEX CertiPrep Group Companies
“Being in the beauty industry, I am surrounded by creative females every day. However, there is still a tendency to hold back and once my staff began applying the concepts they learned from GUTSY, relationships became more conflict free and more effective. The good news is they took what they learned from the book and workshop and brought it home. A double win.”
Debra Neill Baker, CEO, Neill Corporation
The success of 'Gutsy' resulted in the development of Gutsy Weekends, now offered through Lafair's company, Creative Energy Options Inc. The workshops offer women usable and unique insights that blend knowledge from business and psychology. It’s a weekend that includes active participation experience – edutainment that uses film, story, music, art and the peacefulness of being in nature to awaken new ideas and possibilities. This will be available as an on-line program in 2018. Women from all walks of life can share key concepts about their own personal roles as a leader at work, at home - everywhere.
Author Sylvia Lafair is the CEO of Creative Energy Options Inc. (CEOinc), a firm that challenges the status quo of workplace relationships. The key is that as women become more daring men can learn to become more caring and the formula for success is: Daring + Caring = Sharing.
Over the past 30 years their team has searched for the hidden emotional mechanisms at work in a typical office environment. The discovery of why people respond the way they do has profoundly changed the way the company thinks, coaches, consults and develops programs. They believe there is a series of patterns that underlie behavior and has been a missing link in understanding the core of office politics, absenteeism, law suits and poor productivity.
The company's Pattern Breakthrough process, not found in any other coaching or programs, is what enables them to prepare clients to transcend business frustrations. The company continues to win awards for Pattern Breakthrough Coaching and Total Leadership Connections.

The Best Christmas Gift For Bosses - Multi-Awarding Winning Book, 'Don't Bring It To Work' By Sylvia Lafair
Sylvia Lafair is the founder of Creative Energy Options and the world’s leading authority in Pattern Breakthrough Leadership Development, a Top Global Leadership Guru and award-winning author
Choosing the right gift for the boss can be a monumental challenge. It's one of those problems we struggle with for days or weeks perhaps. The problem can be easily solved by making the wise choice - a gift that will make the boss's job easier. Sylvia Lafair's multi-award winning business book, 'Don't Bring It To Work', may not only be the perfect Christmas gift for your boss, manager or coworker - it might end up being the catalyst that transforms your entire workplace.
We all know the type--maybe he's the office cutup, or the woman who manages to look busy but avoids work, or the guy who is the long-suffering victim--there's one in every office. These behaviors are painfully annoying and stir up conflict in the office.
How can you get to the bottom of workplace behaviors that simply don't work for you or your organization?
'Don't Bring It to Work' explores what happens when patterns and habits originally created to cope with family conflicts are unleashed in the workplace. This groundbreaking book draws on the success of Sylvia Lafair's Pattern Breakthrough program Total Leadership Connections. Throughout the book Lafair shows how to break the cycle of pattern repetition and offers the tools that can turn unhealthy family baggage into creative energy that will foster better workplace associations and career success.
Lafair identifies the thirteen most common patterns that correspond to characters familiar to anyone who has ever worked in an office: Super Achiever, Rebel, Persecutor, Victim, Rescuer, Clown, Martyr, Splitter, Procrastinator, Drama Queen or King, Pleaser, Denier, and Avoider. To help overcome destructive behavior problems, she maps out the three main steps for becoming aware of patterns and finding the way OUT:
Observe your behavior to discern underlying patterns
Understand and probe deeper to discover the origins of these patterns
Transform your behavior by taking action to change
The book includes a wealth of real-life anecdotes and practical, workbook-style exercises that clearly show how anyone can get beyond old, outmoded attempts at conflict resolution and empower themselves to make profound differences both at work and in their personal lives.
'Don't Bring It To Work' has taken a large number of high level industry awards. Geoffrey James with Inc.com placed it on a list of '9 Books Every Boss Should Read'. It was named a Best Book in the Business and Leadership Category by Nautilus Books and took awards from the London Book Festival and from the Paris Book Festival in 2012.
The book has garnered high praise from industry leaders across the entire business spectrum:
“Sylvia Lafair is an amazingly acute analyzer of human behavior. She’s pinpointed the patterns that can make you sink, soar, or simply muddle through your career. If you want to take your work life, your team, or your company to the next level – or better yet – the level beyond that, read this important book. The payoff is the elusive breakthrough you’ve sought for years.” -- Tyler Mathisen, CNBC co-host of Power Lunch and Nightly Business Report
“In this smart, useful and much needed book on how to work and play well with others, Sylvia Lafair teaches us how to recognize and change our own ineffective behavior and how to help others get past the family baggage and office politics that prevent all of us from doing our best work.” -- Daniel Pink, author of books about work management that include “A Whole New Mind” and “Drive”
"This book is emotionally engaging and the message is fantastic."-- Robert Sutton, Professor of Management Science and Engineering, Stanford University
"This engaging book has a powerful core message. We’re bringing family dynamics – from childhood and even from our parents’ childhoods – to work. – and the results are not pretty. Packed with stories of workplace dynamics gone awry – and, then, amazingly enough, transformed by Lafair’s compassionate approach – the book is immensely readable. You will be motivated to create change for the better." -- Amy Edmondson, Novartis Professor of Leadership and Management, Harvard Business School, Harvard University
"This book distills various behavior patterns that we have at work and helps you identify negative patterns and takes you through personal transformation. Every leader and manager should read this book! Wow! It’s wonderful." -- Nancy Duarte, CEO of Duarte Design, Author, "slide:ology"
"Wonderful insights for anyone who manages a business, works in a business, or leads a business. Read it now." -- Michael E. Gerber, Author, "The E-Myth Books"

How Harassment In The Workplace Can Be Stopped Now - Award Winning Author Sylvia Lafair's 3 Point Strategy
Sylvia Lafair is the founder of Creative Energy Options and the world’s leading authority in Pattern Aware Leadership Development, a Top Global Leadership Guru and award-winning author of 'Don’t Bring It To Work'.
In a recent Inc.com article Sylvia Lafair, award winning author and President of Creative Energy Options, outlined a 3-point strategy to stop harassment at work once and for all.
The number of high profile celebrities involved in scandals - including Harvey Weinstein, Matt Lauer, Bill O'Reilly, Kevin Spacey and many others - continues to grow almost daily. While we hear about celebrity harassment in the news of course, we hear far less about the ongoing harassment that occurs in businesses all over the US and the rest of the world every day. We really don't need more gossip. What we need are solutions that work.
In the Inc. article, Lafair laid out a 3-part strategy represented by the acronym OUT - Observe, Understand and Transform.
In the article she stated in part:
"Adult relationships take work, lots of work. So, you have every right to raise an eyebrow in disbelief when I say stopping harassment is simple.
"Stay with me.
"It's about NO MORE JUBLA. (More on JUBLA later)
"Let me explain. Actually, let me let JAY Z explain.
"In a recent New York Times article, the famed rapper-businessman talked about therapy and getting to know himself from the inside out.
"His openness and honesty about being unfaithful in his marriage to Beyonce is a powerful example of a man able to get at observation of his behavior, understand its roots and then transform his actions to a more positive way.
"The way OUT of old outdated behavior: Observe, Understand and Transform.
"Leaders who use the OUT Technique set the stage for their colleagues and employees, all who look up to them, to also want to get OUT of old ways of thinking and acting.
"In JAY Z's words "The most important thing I got (from therapy) is that everything is connected. Every emotion is connected, and it comes from somewhere. And just being aware of it. Being aware of it in everyday life puts you at such a ... you're at such an advantage. You know, you realize that if someone's racist toward you, it ain't about you. It's about their upbringing and what happened to them, and how that led them to this point. You know, most bullies bully. It just happens. 'Oh, you got bullied as a kid so you trying to bully me." I understand."
"Now about JUBLA. The rapper continues, "And once I understand that, instead of reacting to that with anger, I can provide a softer landing and maybe say "Aw man, is you OK?"
"No JUBLA: Judgment, Blame or Attack."
