First Annual Selfie Film Awards Sponsored By The Selfie Project By Award Winning Selfie Filmmaker Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein Now Open For Submissions

The Selfie Film Awards celebrates selfies, selfie filmmakers and a new form of artistic expression. The Selfie Film Awards is now accepting applications for submission.

Multi-award winning author and selfie filmmaker Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein has announced that the first annual Selfie Film Awards is now accepting submissions at the Selfie Filmmakers website.

Recorded history began with cave drawings. Then, stone tablets and eventually documents and books. Today, we have all types and styles of digital media that our descendants will use to gain insight from the historical record of previous generations. Selfie films are the next logical step in the progression.

Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein, Positive Psychologist and multi-award winning Selfie filmmaker, clearly demonstrates that there are no boundaries in regard to what can be accomplished with this cutting-edge form of filmmaking. Her current focus is centered on 'The Selfie Project' and 'The Selfie Filmmaker Awards'.

"The Selfie Project is gaining steam day by day," Dr Holstein stated. "What started as a clever way to make a film about a tween, coming of age, more intense and appealing, is turning into a multi-dimensional project. 'The Selfie Project' is designed to bring new forms of film: #SelfiesasFilm; #Selfiesasdrama; and #Selfiefilmmakerseverywhere to the public and to give voice to a range of issues from school shootings to humor, body shaming, social media, bullying, falling in love, or any other topic filmmakers would like to address.

"In the The New York Times article 'A Twist on a Dance Craze, From a Muddy Rice Field' we learn how dancing alongside one's oxen can make work less repetitive and also one can end up with international fame as a Selfie goes viral. Who knows what doors may open up for these particular fellows. Perhaps they will find themselves teaching dance. Whatever happens to them, we cannot gauge how many others may be inspired to make their daily jobs more interesting.

"Never before in the history of man have we had the capacity to transmit every type of human effort, opinion, story or advice as instantly as Selfies permit. For me as a psychologist/filmmaker, I have an unique take on how I wish to use Selfies, both artistically and for the betterment of humankind.

"Artistically, drama used to helped us understand human behavior is my goal. I have made a number of Selfie Coming of Age films. There is no doubt that actors filming their own scenes with a smart phone adds an intensity to their performances. Scenes emerge that are amazingly real and intense. The audience laughs, sighs and is responsive in ways that lead to better communicating and understanding between all.

"Selfies films give filmmakers an opportunity to share thoughts, feelings, ideas, hopes, dreams, etc. We each have a voice that can reach out into the world. How amazing. We don't have to wait any longer to be invited to speak or to be famous. Be it a Vlog, or Facebook or You Tube, everyone can jump into the water.

"My goal is to give voice to kids, tweens and teens in particular. My Podcast show, 'The Enchanted Self Presents' and my website www.selfiefilmmakers.com are giving voice to kids on a number of issues. This month on my Podcast show discusses School Anxiety, Academic Anxiety and Friend Drama. Dr. Lucinda Monica Seares shares psychological insights, along with me and several students and their Selfies on these subjects."

Applicants for the awards can apply at the SelfieFilmmakers.com website.

Holstein's short films have won numerous awards and accolades.

50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading Book Awards Accepting Votes From Public For 2017 Awards

'50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' has been called the 'People's Choice Awards' for authors of fiction and non-fiction books

'50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' awards contest is now accepting votes from the public. While most awards programs hand out awards for books, it is the ARTIST behind the book who should be the focus of the award. Most authors overcome tremendous challenges and work very hard to bring their work to market. The '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' awards contest looks for the 'story behind the story'.

An award given for a single book impacts one book only. An award given to an author impacts all the works of that author, past, present and future. As in the world of film, some awards are for best movies, others are for best actors or actresses.  Using this analogy '50 Great Writers' bestows awards upon the writer (actor/actress).

In that the contest is about the author, participants can submit an essay about their writing journey/career, their expectations as authors, a summary of their body of work and basic information about their books. Those who wish to do so may instead submit an excerpt from the book. The public at large is then invited to read these essays and decide whom to vote for.

Authors must build long-term platforms to create ongoing sales and achieve success. People buy books because of the personality BEHIND the work. A great book has very little long-term market value if the author remains relatively anonymous. It is for these reasons '50 Great Writers' focuses sharply on the real story and the personality behind the book.

Award contests must be viewed as being a marketing tool that should be an integral part of the marketing strategies designed by all authors.  It takes time to win awards, and the more awards authors win the more recognition for their work they stand to receive.

Voting is currently open for the 2017 contest. Winners will appear in the 2018 edition of '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading'. Participants include, but are not limited to:

Author Linda Maria Frank Chosen As Finalist In 2016 '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' Awards

Frank was chosen as the result of a public voting process.  Her latest work, entitled ‘The Mystery of the Lost Avenger’, is a mystery thriller for young readers that has received rave reviews from readers. Her works have been described as "Nancy Drew meet CSI".

Linda Maria Frank, author of ‘The Mystery of the Lost Avenger’, has been chosen as a finalist in the 2016 ’50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading’ Awards contest. Frank was chosen as the result of a public voting process.

"It's a thrill to be chosen as a finalist," Frank stated. "It's what writers write for, the ability to say something or to tell a story that readers are inspired or entertained when they read your work. Stories help people to connect."

Letters can really change a life. In Linda Maria Frank’s latest Annie Tiller Mystery, the teen detective and her boyfriend, Ty Egan, bump into the intrigue of a past time in American history. A letter from the United States Navy links Annie’s great grandmother with a plane crash from 1943.

A packet of letters between great grandmother, Charlotte Wheeler, and her Navy pilot finance, Frank Bradenton, hint at dangerous goings-on in the defense plant where Charlotte test and flies Avenger fighter planes to military bases on the West Coast.

Annie and Ty become code breakers, delving into the heart-stopping world of World War II to solve 'The Mystery of the Lost Avenger'.

Other books in The Annie Tillery Mystery Series include 'The Madonna Ghost', 'Girl with Pencil, Drawing', and 'Secrets in the Fairy Chimneys'.

Reviewers have high praise for Frank's Annie Tillery Mystery Series. One reviewer stated, “Linda Frank might as well be the next Carolyn Keene with her new age mystery luring readers from every angle--suspense, romance, and modern forensics. This is a perfect book for all ages, particularly young readers who might find Nancy Drew a bit old-fashioned. Written in a way where every chapter leaves you with a crisp, familiar image of each character and location.”

Linda Marie Frank is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below, or by email at lmf217@hotmail.com. All of Linda Frank’s works are available at Amazon. Readers are encouraged to vote at The Authors Show site at http://www.theauthorsshow.com. More information is available at Frank’s website at http://www.lindamariafrank.com.

Profile:

Linda Marie Frank is a native of New York City. Her life-long career has been in teaching. She taught in Seaford, in the Middle School when it was a Junior High, and in the High School.  She taught science, ending her career in the high school as Department Chairperson, teaching biology, chemistry and forensic science. She went on to teach at Hofstra University, forensic science and biotechnology. She also supervised science student teachers at Adelphi University.

It was her forensic science courses coupled with her love of Nancy Drew and other mystery heroes that led her to write the Annie Tillery Mysteries, ‘The Madonna Ghost’ and ‘Girl With Pencil, Drawing’, 'Secrets in the Fairy Chimneys' and 'The Mystery of the Lost Avenger'.

She was awarded the Seaford High School Teacher of the Year in 1989, and received an award from the American Association of University Women in 1995 for inspiring young women to pursue the field of science.

Frank also produces a TV show, The Writer’s Dream, on LTV-EH, a local access station in East Hampton, as well as Long Island Cablevision.

Author Linda Maria Frank Chosen As Finalist In '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading'

Frank was chosen as the result of a public voting process.  Her work, entitled ‘Secrets In The Fairy Chimneys’, is a mystery thriller for young readers that has received rave reviews from readers

Linda Maria Frank, author of ‘Secrets Of The Fairy Chimneys’, has been chosen as a finalist in the ’50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading’ Awards contest. The contest is sponsored by The Authors Show.

‘Secrets In The Fairy Chimneys’, written in the tradition of Nancy Drew mysteries, is written in a ‘Nancy Drew meets CSI’ style. The new young adult thriller puts Annie Tillery on a dangerous path in an attempt to unravel a complicated mystery and solve the secrets in the fairy chimneys.

"I love the Authors Show," Frank stated. "What a splendid opportunity the show offers to showcase your books in an attractive way, including an in-depth interview. On top of that is the '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' contest, which enables authors to share with others what writing means to them. Books contain every conceivable idea and story written and told by the authors who provide these gifts to their readers. It is this relationship between authors and readers that keeps the stories of our common awareness alive."

'Secrets In The Fairy Chimneys' is set in exotic Istanbul and Cappadocia, a land of enchanted caves and rock formations. The plot involves ancient mysteries, archaeological secrets, and thieves who will commit murder rather than give up the treasures they steal. Annie acquires new friends. Cedric Zeeks is trying to find a link between his African ancestors and the inhabitants of a 9,000 year old town in Cappadocia.  Yelda and Ahmet Atsut, twins with a Ouija board and awesome sleuthing talents, help Annie and boyfriend, Ty Egan, solve the mysteries, both the ancient ones and the ones that threaten them as they work the archaeological dig.  This third Annie Tillery Mystery is a real page turner with mystery, romance and an intriguing plot.

The book has a perfect 5 star rating on Amazon. One reviewer stated, "Terrific read. Although I'm not a typical YA reader (a bit too old) I thoroughly enjoy this series. Young Annie Tillery is a character that the reader can engage as she soldiers on with her adventure in the face of some ominous threats. Her relationship with her boyfriend, and archeological dig partner is touching. The scene descriptions of the archeological site in Turkey are well done and enlightening. The author not only knows how to tell a compelling story but she adds some interesting scientific information. I have heard of mitochondrial DNA, but never knew its significance until I read this book.”

Linda Marie Frank is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below, or by email at lmf217@hotmail.com. All of Linda Frank’s works are available at Amazon. Readers are encouraged to vote at http://questionpro.com/AJhWsZRq7r. More information is available at Frank’s website at http://www.lindamariafrank.com.

Author Rowena Cherry To Be Featured On Authors Show Radio

Award winning author discusses her newest novel, 'Knights Fork'

Rowena Cherry, author of a number of award winning futuristic romances, will be featured on The Authors Show Radio through June 19, 2009.

On the show, she discusses the importance to her of humor, political satire and ethics in her latest award-winning novel entitled Knights Fork.

Released in October 2008 by Dorchester Publishing's LoveSpell imprint, KNIGHT'S FORK has already garned a LongAndShortReviews.com "Readers' Choice Book of the Week" award on the basis of an advance review, two consecutive PNR Reviewer's "Top Pick" awards for September 2008 and also October 2008, in addition to a PNR Staff "mention".

Knight's Fork is a hilarious love story about a very virtuous knight on a quest and an alien's queen who realizes that only a discreet sperm donor can save her world from a constitutional crisis. A right royal scandal and interstellar political chicanery result when the queen is accused of adultery.

Rowena Cherry was offered her first New York publishing contract in 2004 after her debut novel, Forced Mate won third place in the global Romantic Times and Dorchester Publishing's New Voice in Romance contest, forerunner of the current American Title Contest.

To date, Ms. Cherry is the author of four titles: Forced Mate, Mating, and Insufficient Mating Material, and Knight's Fork, all of which have won awards. In the interview, Rowena Cherry explains how she came up with her branding strategy to base all her titles on chess terms. "I like chess," says Rowena Cherry, "I think it's sexy, intellectually stimulating and fun." She continues, "Especially when, instead of learning something during sex that changes his mind about whether or not the heroine is a flake or a bore or a shrew, my arrogant hero discovers that there is more to the heroine than meet the eye when she beats him at chess."

"The Enchanted Quill" is Ms Cherry's most treasured award of more than half a dozen first place Romance Writers Of America award wins for Forced Mate before it was published.

"It's a real red feather quill pen mounted on a heart-shaped Perspex inkstand," she beams.

Since publication, Forced Mate's honors include a place in the finals of the 2006 EPPIES (for the electronic version), finalist status in the 2005 Affaire De Coeur Readers/Reviewers Choice Awards; an Honorable Mention in the 2004 JADA Press Book Of The Year Awards; kudos as a finalist in the Best SF Romance or Futuristic category of the prestigious PEARL awards, and also the Honorable Mention as Best New Author in the same 2005 PEARL Awards.

A year later, the short e-book, Mating Net won the USABookNews "Best Books" award for electronic fiction in 2006; it also gained a PEARL nod, and came fourth in the Romance category in the 2005 Preditors and Editors poll.

Insufficient Mating Material was judged the winner in the Romance category of the 2008 Hollywood Book Festival. It was voted the Cupid And Psyche Award Award for Fantasy Romance by readers and members of The Romance Studio, and was a Fantasm Award winner in the Best Futuristic Romance category. It took First Place in the Author Island.com Reader's Choice Awards and was named Best Fantasy/Sci-Fi Romance in the 2007 Spring Night Owl Romance Awards. Insufficient Mating Material also was a finalist in the Golden Quill awards, and in the Most Humorous category of the Anne Bonney Awards, and finaled in the prestigious PEARL AWARDS Futuristic category.

"My goal as an author," states Rowena Cherry, "is to give good value. I expect to provide my readers with six to eight hours of amusement, a couple of really good laughs, a romantic frisson or two from the sensual scenes, a thoroughly satisfying Happy-Ever-After, and perhaps, something to think about after the book is finished."

In the case of Insufficient Mating Material --which draws on Rowena Cherry's life-saving qualifications and adventure experiences while doing The Duke Of Edinburgh's Award-- the author consciously set out to write an entertaining book which included information that might change or save a life. Insufficient Mating Material was endorsed by TV "Survivorman" Les Stroud.

The interview can be found at the Authors Show Radio site at www.TheAuthorsShow.com. Rowena Cherry's featured interview will run through June 19, 2009.
