Rebooting During The Pandemic Downtime - Award Winning Selfie Filmmaker Barbara Becker Holstein Shows Us How To Come Out On The Other Side Better, Stronger, More Resilient

Dr. Holstein is an award winning Selfie Filmmaker, Positive Psychologist and podcaster who helps us overcome anxiety and alienation through multiple media channels.

There are generally two ways to view the situation the pandemic lockdown has created. We can see it as a problem, a nuisance, a troublesome event. Or we can see it as an opportunity to reboot and prepare to come out the other side better, stronger and more resilient. Award winning Selfie filmmaker and Positive Psychologist Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein strongly believes the pandemic offers us an opportunity to dramatically improve our lives by using the time to reboot, paying attention to six key ideas:

1. Sleep
2. Exercise
3. Nutrition
4. Socializing
5. Using Your Past to Enhance Your Future
6. Creating an historical record

In a new video, https://vimeo.com/426513471, Dr. Holstein offers some sage advice regarding how to take the first steps. But, being an award winning filmmaker, she wants us to focus on number 6 - creating a record for future generations. She intends to create an historical record of selfie films from pandemic survivors and is now actively seeking selfie videos for the collection. Those who wish to submit their own selfie films can do so at http://www.SelfieFilmmakers.com.

"You are part of an historical ‘moment’, Dr Holstein stated. “It may feel like forever now, but the day will come when the pandemic is over. Historians will look back in 1000 years and wonder how we handled this pandemic. Hopefully, they will live in a world that no longer has viruses. So, help them out. Take advantage of your cell phones and record a record of your life during the pandemic. Video your family or housemates, show the future what you cooked, the puzzles you made, the homework setup at the kitchen table. Interview each other about how the pandemic is affecting you. What you hope the future will be like. What you are worried most about. What you may do differently in the future. I am sure you will come up with lots of interesting things to talk about and show. After all, you are a survivor. So let the rebooting start!"

Dr. Holstein's talk about Rebooting During The Pandemic can be found on both Vimeo and on the Roku channel, titled as 'The Enchanted Self Presents'.

Dr. Holstein recently created The Selfie Showcase, a new project emerging from The Selfie Project, that allows young people to voice their opinions on subjects that matter to young people. She is now accepting submissions from the public for the "Selfie Showcase" and is actively seeking change-makers and mental health professionals to appear on her monthly video podcasts.

The Selfie Showcase allows kids, teens, and young adults ages 13 to 18 to candidly express their concerns, worries, observations and possible solutions by creating selfies or selfie films around important subjects, using a smartphone. Dr. Holstein's mission is to help rectify, in a number of ways, some of the issues young people face by giving them a chance to engage with others in meaningful ways about the anxiety and stress they must grapple with constantly.

Selected participants may appear on the Selfie Project Channel, available on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3uaOTcYF70z5CpBh11VoUQ. Rebooting During The Covid-19 Pandemic - Award Winning Selfie Filmmaker Barbara Becker Holstein To Create Historical Record Of Videos Received From Pandemic Survivors

Dr. Holstein is an award winning Selfie Filmmaker, Positive Psychologist and podcaster who helps us overcome anxiety and alienation through multiple media channels.

Human beings are forced to reboot many, many times during their lifetime, From new loves to new jobs, from elementary school to high school, from graduation to career, from marriage to divorce - even from the old set of teeth to that new set of teeth that came in when we were children. Never has the human race been required to reboot on a global scale until the Covid-19 pandemic, however.

Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein intends to create an historical record of selfie films from pandemic survivors and is now actively seeking selfie videos for the collection. Those who wish to submit their own selfie films can do so at http://www.SelfieFilmmakers.com.

"I really want you to start to do those selfie videos about yourself, your family, your kids, your grandkids, Dr. Holstein stated. "Interview your grandkids, ask them how they're liking or not liking being homeschooled by their moms and dads or their older brother and sister.

"Ask them what they think the future will be like. Ask your own kids what's been hard, what's been easy. Talk about yourself, what you're doing, what you're not doing what you miss most, what you hope the future will be like.

"Upload your selfie films then to selfiefilmmakers.com, where I am beginning to build a historical log of how people are reacting, what they're saying and what their kids are saying. Make a video with your cell phone, at most two minutes and upload it to Selfie Filmmakers or put it on YouTube and send us the link.

"Rebooting and seeing how we can make the new normal as great as possible is not only important for mental health, but it's important for the historical story of ourselves as human beings."

How To Talk To Your Kids About Covid-19 And Monitor For Anxiety, Stress And Emotional Issues - Advice For Parents Offered By Positive Psychologist Barbara Becker Holstein

Dr. Holstein is an award winning Selfie Filmmaker, Positive Psychologist and podcaster who helps young people overcome anxiety and alienation through multiple media channels.

Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein is now offering a video appropriate for parents and kids who are suffering from the emotional and social effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The new video, entitled 'Truths Change And Still Remain", is available at her site at http://www.enchantedself.com.

“My gift to you and your children is a little film I made that in two minutes takes the 'girl' of my books: ‘The Truth’ and ‘Secrets’ and of my films: ‘Falling in Love’, ‘Secrets’, ‘Conflict and a Bit of Magic’, and more, from anguish to elation and happiness once more,” Dr. Holstein stated. “I hope you enjoy the images and the music and lyrics. The message is universal. No matter what stage of life we are at, we have disappointments and unexpected changes, we bounce back, move on and later again we flounder, come back. This roller coaster ride of life is a gift if we grow and learn and love through each phase. I hope that is what you see in my film and will gather your strength to do just this during the Coronavirus time in our lives.”

We are all suffering the psychological effects of living through a pandemic. Millions of adults are out of work. The virus hits older people especially hard. Therefore it is no surprise that we overlook the effects the pandemic has on our young people. Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein, Positive Psychologist and award winning Selfie filmmaker gives young people a real voice through her work. She provides some guidance on how parents can first understand and then help overcome the effects the current situation has on young people.

"Sometimes we can forget how much kids suffer during hard times," Dr. Holstein stated. "Just because they're young and strong physically, can stay up half the night and laugh hysterically, does not mean that they are immune to the suffering going on around them and around the world due to the coronavirus. In fact, kids are very susceptible to all sorts of emotional upheavals because they're not fully developed emotionally. That takes many, many years. They have reactions that include anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, frustration, disappointment, unhappiness, tears, gloomy feelings and thoughts, and even worse.

"Sadly the news is now bringing up at least one suicide by a youngster. So it is extremely important for everybody to not only protect the mental health of adults but also of children, tweens, teens and young adults.

"One of the things that has disappointed and upset them is the lack of a graduation ceremony - to give them a chance to celebrate a milestone in their lives. Another disappointment is not having an official prom, to get dressed up and feel like a king or queen for the night. Other disappointments are losing part time jobs, not going to school and having virtual learning, losing sport activities, and being housebound as the result of stay at home and social distancing rules.

"Social sustaining is difficult because kids are missing even the most simple social activities like hugging and laughing hysterically with their friends or physically touching in playful ways that go with just being young. If they have a boyfriend or girlfriend, then it means missing some of the closeness that the couple has established. Oftentimes adult couples live together. Even if they're housebound they still have each other. Kids, teens and young adults who have a close significant other often do not live in the same household, so it's a particularly lonely and difficult time.

"One of the other dilemmas is that kids who are now graduating feel uncertain regarding whether they can they go off to a college in the fall. Will there be monies for loans? Will the college be operating? Do they really want to be in a virtual environment for their schooling?

“Let’s turn now to helpful suggestions:

1. Be your own investigator. Is your child despondent hanging in his or her room too much?Is he very sour or critical or do you hear him crying or getting very angry. Is she not eating enough or binging? Listen and watch. Be observant for any changes that could reflect anxiety or depression or other problems.

2. You are your child’s guardian and protector. Don't be afraid to take charge. Sit down and share with him, perhaps some examples of worries or anxiety or sleeplessness that you may be experiencing. Encourage him to share with you what he is feeling and what is happening in his life. Reassure that we will get to solutions and good news.

For example:
3. If your daughter is disappointed because she's not going to a prom, perhaps you and she can still order some clothing online that absolutely delights her. Or maybe she can get all dressed up and the family can have a fancy dinner in her honor.

And always stay wise:
4.If your child is experiencing a lot of anxiety or other symptoms it may be time to call his physician. Do not ignore serious symptoms:

5. If you see more serious things going on, make sure you talk to a professional who can direct you with advice and connections. Your child is precious!

Lastly:
6.Try to bring fun and harmony into your family life. This may mean watching funny shows together, laughing as cats and dogs runaround in crazy ways on YouTube, or watching comedies. It can also mean feeling free to tell and share family stories that end with humor or a happy ending. Think about reaching out to grandparents to share zoom meals together, cousins that may want to join once a week in a shared dinner, and all sorts of ideas that you pull out of your own hat of creativity. Your desire to make this experience a growth experience that has some some pleasant, enjoyable moments and some serious moments of learning will help your kids adapt and be resilient forever.

Coronavirus And Kids Anxiety - Tips For Helping Kids Deal With The Pandemic Offered By Positive Psychologist Barbara Becker Holstein

Dr. Holstein is an award winning Selfie Filmmaker, Positive Psychologist and podcaster who helps young people overcome anxiety and alienation through multiple media channels.

Our children have a lot to be apprehensive about - school shootings, lockdowns, bullying, climate change - and now we can add the coronavirus pandemic. Trying to explain this alarming new threat to our already fearful kids can be a challenge that many of us are simply not prepared to handle. So what do we do to help alleviate the anxiety our kids must confront?

Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein, award-winning selfie filmmaker and Positive Psychologist, recently released a new video entitled 'Truths Change and Still Remain'. The new short film, offered at http://www.enchantedself.com, is a great film to share in trying times to remind us all that we can go from despair to elation if only we turn to love and connection once again. She encourages everyone to pass the new film to kids, grandkids and friends.

"There are 5 easy ways to increase joy in your life right now and get ready for a great future," Dr. Holstein stated.

“Call a friend or relative or just wave hi to a neighbor.

“Make a donation, no matter how small to a local charity like the animal shelter.

“Make a chart for the kitchen magnet space where each person can list if they or someone else in the household does something nice or special.

“Watch a fun movie or show or clips of dogs playing the piano, whatever works for you.

“Write a note to yourself and put it in a safe place about three wonderful things you will do when the time comes to move on - and it will.

“Kids, what do I tell them? What can we do with them, all coped up for who knows how long?

“First of all kids worry and know something is wrong. Don't fool yourself. They sense anxiety, anger, despair, worry, faster than we do. And they see that their routines and patterns of life have been totally changed. So don't try to fool them or trivialize their concerns. On the other hand don't tell them more than they need to know. For example, a 5 year old may only need to know that there is a virus going around and everyone is staying safe by staying at home for awhile. A 16 year old may really want to know what is happening and ask thoughtful questions. What medicines are being used, do the doctors have enough supplies? When will there be a vaccine? Will anyone we know die? Be truthful but don't flood him or her with information. If you don't know the answer perhaps you can find out together or you can help your child search for the answer. If she wants to make masks for the doctors or gather money for the animal shelter all the better. Let kids do their part. Don't discourage action.

“Today's world, as scary as it is, is a great arena for emotional and social growth for your kids. Another great aspect of listening and helping them appropriately is that you will engage with them in ways that reinforce the type of loving connection that definitely makes all of us feel safer, more understood and more productive. We may look back on this time as a win-win for all of us adults and children who have a chance to relate to one another as we go through this trying time.

“My gift to you and your children is a little film I made that in two minutes takes the 'girl' of my books: The Truth and Secrets and of my Films: Falling in Love, Secrets, Conflict and a Bit of Magic, and more, from anguish to elation and happiness once more. I hope you enjoy the images and the music and lyrics. The message is universal. No matter what stage of life we are at, we have disappointments and unexpected changes, we bounce back, move on and later again we flounder, come back. This roller coaster ride of life is a gift if we grow and learn and love through each phase. I hope that is what you see in my film and will gather your strength to do just this during the Coronavirus time in our lives.

My pathfinder book: THE ENCHANTED SELF, A Positive Therapy' explains in great detail how to reclaim positive states of being again and again while developing a strong sense of self and living a life of purpose and meaning.

'The Selfie Project' focuses on two aspects of 'Selfies'. One is Selfie Films that inspire and teach resiliency and happiness through drama. I've been making these short Selfie Films for over 4 years now. They are amazing, having won over 80 awards in film festivals and competitions. They allow young actors to do much of their own filming with smart phones, while telling important coming of age stories that open the gates to amazing conversations and feelings about growing up. Several of these films are available to stream at: https://cinecosmos.vhx.tv/search?q=selfie+film."

"Secondly, My podcasts bring you real people who will inspire and influence you. Many of these people are kids, tweens or teen, similar to the kids who might be running around your neighborhood or go to your local school. What you may not realize is that most of my guests are visionaries. They may be the neighbor down the street you didn't realize has a great idea or a famous psychologist or filmmaker. They may be a police officer concerned about school shootings or a professor figuring out ways to save the climate. Kids, tweens and teens on my Podcast shows are also visionaries. They have a lot to say and share and often don't get a big enough chance to go on record. I love that 'The Selfie Project' allows them to not only talk about what is on their minds but to make selfies that further allow their creativity, dramatic abilities or their deep feelings and ideas to come out. Podcasts can be viewed at Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLIMJ00jmjVO_ozLsJLgt7b5M6zqaWmQOk."

Dr. Holstein's unique Selfie Films have taken a large number of awards and have been shown in many film festivals and competitions. Most notable among these are:

School Shootings, Lockdowns, Body Shaming And Bullying: Teen Girls Lead The Climate Change Effort Says Award Winning Selfie Filmmaker Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein

Dr. Holstein, a Positive Psychologist/filmmaker and originator of a unique Selfie Film concept, is accepting Selfie Films submissions from the public for the "Selfie Showcase".

A recent article on the Washington Post site entitled "Teen girls are leading the climate strikes and helping change the face of environmentalism" presented us with some surprising information. Teen girls seem to have taken a lead role in the climate change effort.

As stated in the article, "The icon of young climate activism is 16-year-old Greta Thunberg, who sparked the school strike movement when she began protesting alone outside the Swedish parliament more than a year ago.

As the article states, "When the soft-spoken teenager appeared at New York’s climate rally Friday, the crowd reacted as if she were the headliner of a rock concert. Tens of thousands of schoolkids waited for hours in sweltering heat to see her speak and yelled her name in unison as she took the stage."

Award winning author, selfie filmmaker and positive psychologist Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein has been telling us for years that teens and social media will change the world. We are seeing that happen today.

"As a psychologist and educator, my work has always been reflective of a deep truth that society is quick to forget: children and teens are lucid, insightful and 'get it' far more than we give them credit for,” Dr. Holstein stated. Often we block their innocent wisdom and awareness of what is going on, whether in our own households or the world, as it is too painful and annoying or maybe embarrassing for us as grown-ups to face the truth. Our kids are not embarrassed about climate change. However, they are annoyed and in pain. Let's try to overcome our resistance to the truth and listen to our kids! It will help all of us to save the planet."

Dr. Holstein's unique Selfie Films have taken a large number of awards and have been shown in many film festivals and competitions. Most notable among these are:

Dr. Holstein recently created The Selfie Showcase, a new project emerging from The Selfie Project, that allows young people to voice their opinions on subjects that matter to young people. The Selfie Showcase allows kids, teens, and young adults ages 13 to 18 to candidly express their concerns, worries, observations and possible solutions by creating selfies or selfie films around important subjects, using a smart phone.

Selected participants may appear on the Selfie Project Channel, available on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3uaOTcYF70z5CpBh11VoUQ. School Shootings, Lockdowns, Body Shaming And Bullying: Selfie Showcase, New Selfie Film Concept By Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein, Now Open For Submissions

Dr. Holstein, a Positive Psychologist/filmmaker and originator of a unique Selfie Film concept, is accepting Selfie Films submissions from the public for the "Selfie Showcase".

Selfies as film is a new concept; one that is gaining wide acceptance. Selfie films are fast becoming "television" for the digital age. 'Content', a vertical video series recently debuted on Youtube, Facebook and Instagram. 'Unfriended', released in 2014, grossed $64 million worldwide. 'Searching', a highly acclaimed thriller, grossed over $75 million worldwide. Even Samsung jumped into the market with a new television that can switch between horizontal and vertical screens.

Selfie filmmaking has arrived.

Selfie filmmaker and Positive Psychologist is a cutting-edge, visionary selfie filmmaker who has garnered over 80 awards and screenings. While all or her work is deeply insightful and wildly entertaining, her goal is to use selfie filmmaking as an entree into helping young people deal with modern day problems such as school shootings, lockdowns, body shaming, bullying and adolescent suicides. To that end she recently developed an exciting new concept - the Selfie Showcase.

The Selfie Showcase, now open for submissions, will allow kids, teens, and young adults ages 13 to 18 to candidly express their concerns, worries, observations and possible solutions by creating selfie films around important subjects, using a smart phone. Selected participants may appear on the Selfie Project Channel, available on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3uaOTcYF70z5CpBh11VoUQ. They may also appear on SelfieFilmmakers.com, on Holstein's monthly podcast or perhaps be a part of her next film.

Full details, rules for submission and helpful hints can be accessed at the Selfie Filmmakers site at http://www.selfiefilmmakers.com/instructions.

Body Shaming, Social Media, Bullying And The Drive To Be Best - Videos For Educators About School Shootings Offered By Selfie Filmmaker And Positive Psychologist Barbara Becker Holstein

Dr. Holstein, a psychologist/filmmaker and originator of a unique Selfie Film concept, writes award-winning books, plays and produces short films that offer solutions to problems that impact today's kids, tweens and teens

We want our children to be safe and to develop healthy self esteem and self confidence. This has always been the case. But today these basics are very difficult to achieve. Recently the New York Times ran a front page article regarding how lockdowns and school shootings leave our kids with years of ongoing trauma they must cope with.

Of all places, kids should certain be safe at home and in school. We send our children to school to learn. Do we want them instead locked down in a bathroom, scared to death, listening to gun shots?

We hope that their time with friends helps them learn to socialize and to navigate relationships. Do we want to see them threatened or bullied 24/7 on social media?

Is this the way we want to live as a society? Of course not.

If we want to fix it, there is no time to waste.

Selfie filmmaker and Positive Psychologist Barbara Becker Holstein has an answer that all can embrace, kids, parents, educators, mental health professionals, as her films touch us in a way that opens our hearts and minds to thing about problems and solutions.

"Prior to 'Lock Down', my films dealt with family and personal issues that kids face: moving to a new town, parents fighting, siblings, first crush, puberty, body changes, moods, feeling isolated and lonely and looking to be understood," Holstein stated. "Gradually I've felt a responsibility to bring into my coming of age films even more 'hot' topics: the drug crisis, cutting, early pregnancy, alcohol, prescription meds and now: school shootings.

"My latest film, 'Lock Down' is one of my shortest, under three minutes. Yet, it conveys many of the dilemmas we face as a society. In the film we see three girls experiencing intense anxiety, fear and panic during a lock down. The film doesn't deal with actual injuries or deaths or the later possibility of suicide by survivors, but it does take us to an intense bathroom scene that makes each ask ourselves, is this what we want our kids or grand kids to go through today in school, when they should be learning? Do we want them locked in a bathroom, scared to death, hearing gun shots. Do we want dangerous weapons easily accessible, often to people who really need but don't have access to good mental health care, to create havoc and leave kids traumatized with PTSD that can stay for years and limit personal growth? Is this the way we want to live as a society?

"My latest podcast, 'More About Kids and Anxiety' was all about the above. 'Lock Down' was shown along with selfies done by the actresses in character, showing how the girls felt a day later after the shooting. I was thrilled to have Mr. Arthur Howard, Principal and Jaime Antonio-Bravo, a certified School Psychologist in New Jersey on board as well as two of the actresses from Lock Down, Megan Brown and Rachel Gesner discussing anxiety and trauma. As Arthur Howard said in reference to lockdowns: 'Talk about anxiety, that's anxiety to the 10th degree'.

"I am making 'Lock Down' available to all at the same time it will be entered in film festivals. We have no time to waste in dealing with the safety of our kids, physically and emotionally. I hope 'Lock Down' will help generate the type of compassionate concern and connection that moves us as a society to thoughtful and timely solutions."

Holstein's short films have won numerous awards and accolades.

Body Shaming, Social Media, Bullying And The Drive To Be Best - Selfie Filmmaker And Positive Psychologist Barbara Becker Holstein Provides Powerful Resources And Solutions For Kids And Their Parents

Dr. Holstein, a psychologist/filmmaker and originator of a unique Selfie Film concept, writes award-winning books, plays and produces short films that offer solutions to problems that impact today's teens and tweens

For kids, the world has become a very dangerous place, more so today than in any other time in history. We have just experienced the anniversary of the Parkland school shooting. This was but one of many. A new book book by Lisa Damour, 'Under Pressure', details the "Epidemic of Stress and Anxiety in Girls." The media has produced hundreds of articles about the stresses experienced by young people. A recent story on the Washington Post website detailed some of the psychological effects school lockdowns create in school age children. Sadly school shootings, while horrific, are but the tip of the iceberg. We must add to that body shaming, social media, bullying, drug abuse and climate change. How did we get here? And what is the solution?

Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein, Positive Psychologist, author, award winning selfie filmmaker and creator of 'THE ENCHANTED SELF' has created a massive number of resources that kids, parents and grandparents can access to meet these modern-day challenges. Those resources include both selfie films and podcasts. These form the core of her message today, as these are two mediums that engage young people in powerful ways.

Dr. Holstein is currently developing 'The Selfie Project' to help kids share their feelings and thoughts in a meaningful way via Selfies that can reach millions. "The Selfie Project" provides a way for young people to go public on a number of subjects. Bullying is real, school violence is real, drama because of social media is real for kids. 'The Selfie Project' is giving voice to those subjects. A pilot TV series is in the development phase with the initial pilot making Film Festival Rounds. Teens will have a chance to discuss via their Selfies and in discussion with Dr. Holstein and other experts, various topics that affect their lives, from friend drama to fear of assault weapons. A recent outtake from one of her latest pieces dealing with a school lockdown can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/318541800. As of this moment, teens can share a link to their Selfies and Dr. Holstein will consider them for inclusion on her website, SelfieFilmmakers.com.

School Shooting Lockdowns Can Traumatize Young Children - Award Winning Author, Psychologist And Selfie Filmmaker Barbara Becker Holstein Helps Open The Doors Of Communication Via The Selfie Project

Dr. Holstein, a psychologist/filmmaker and originator of a unique Selfie Film concept, writes award-winning books, plays and produces short films that offer solutions to problems that impact today's teens and tweens

A recent story on the Washington Post website detailed some of the psychological effects school lockdowns create in school age children. The story was as heartbreaking as it was eye-opening. Some young children weep with terror. Others write final messages to family members - and worse.

Our children do not deserve to be subjected to such horrific lockdown situations in places where they should feel completely safe. Sadly though, it is necessary. Therefore the question we must ask ourselves as parents, grandparents and educators is - "What can we do to help them?"

Award winning author, Positive Psychologist and selfie filmmaker Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein has an answer that is as powerful as it is unique.

"We must help our children feel comfortable expressing their emotions, from joyous to despairing. Typically it is easy to be delighted and happy when kids express delight and are in a good mood. However when a child is cross, or pouting, crying over ‘nothing’ or having some sort of meltdown we are less resourceful as adults. We yell, we put down, we try minor punishments. Often we are unsuccessful.

“What is often not acknowledged is that kids have dark emotions just as we do. This is particularly hard when it comes to issues around going to school. Most of us never had to worry about our safety once we entered the school building. In fact, for many, school was seen as a kind of sanctuary, a place away from a dysfunctional family, or a place with a great library and a free lunch and even milk in the morning.

“Kids today often see school as a kind of battlefield. Their nerves are on edge. Will there be a shouting today? Will it be my school this time? Often kids don’t know how to express their anxiety successfully. Here is where ‘The Selfie Project’ comes in. As a psychologist I recognize the importance of venting the more difficult emotions and thoughts we experience.

“One way to get started is to encourage your child to make a Selfie video on what is on her mind about school. Then watch it together, if your child is comfortable with that and discuss the issues brought up.

“Giving a child a chance to privately vent and then moving toward a discussion about how she feels in school can be very helpful to both of you. Maybe there are things you can do as a parent to make things better, from more understanding at home to involvement with the school system to political action.”

A pilot TV show is in the development phase. Teens will have a chance to discuss via their Selfies and in discussion with Dr. Holstein, various topics that affect their lives, from friend drama to fear of assault weapons. As of this moment, teens can share a link to their Selfies and Dr. Holstein will consider them for inclusion on her website, SelfieFilmmakers.com.

Holstein's short films have won numerous awards and accolades.

Body Shaming, Social Media, Bullying And The Drive To Be Best - What 2019 Holds For Kids On Social Media According To Selfie Filmmaker And Positive Psychologist Barbara Becker Holstein

Dr. Holstein, a psychologist/filmmaker and originator of a unique Selfie Film concept, writes award-winning books, plays and produces short films that offer solutions to problems that impact today's teens and tweens

Social media has transformed the world. While parents, grandparents and teachers may sometimes bemoan the negative effects of social media on young people, there are many ways social media can be used to accomplish amazing things. This year we saw some of the Parkland survivors create a movement that impacted both the election and the support for gun control. That may be just the tip of the iceberg. Selfie filmmaker, author and Positive Psychologist Barbara Becker Holstein sees an opportunity to use selfies and social media as a therapeutic tool. For her, the future of young people shines bright, due partly to the positive effects of this new form of communication.

"I feel very good about the potential that 2019 holds for kids," Dr. Holstein stated. "Selfies, and the potential positive influence of the internet are entwined in 'The Selfie Project' in all of its aspects. These include podcasts, a pilot TV show in development, selfie films focusing on coming of age concepts, and books, such as 'The Truth, Diary of a Gutsy Tween' and 'Secrets', both opening the door to great discussions and ideas about growing up.

"My Podcast show: 'Enchanted Self Presents' allows me to assist kids in a variety of ways: they can make selfies that deeply express what is on their minds; they can, on my show talk and share their ideas in the presence of teachers, parents, filmmakers, and other experts. Those kids that watch or listen to my Podcasts can join in by making a Selfie that touches what is important to them via a link can be shared on my site: SelfieFilmmakers.com.

"My two books, 'The Truth' and 'Secrets', are an entrance way to begin to process so many of the coming of age issues that girls, tweens and teens face. Self-esteem and self confidence are at the core of success and these two books really help kids develop some of the tools needed for more of both. Drama that is educational and psychologically based is a great way to help kids gain confidence. That is why I am making short films that are reaching kids, adults, teachers, guidance counselors across the country. This films dramatically tell coming of age stories while utilizing Selfie filming by the cast to further enhance the emotional aspects of the messages.

"Finding ways to use selfies and social media to teach, encourage, express our needs, thoughts and feelings, have fun, create film as an art from and as an educational tool, and to improve mental health, all of the above is what is on my mind as a psychologist/filmmaker. I invite everyone to join me on this creative, exciting adventure."

Dr. Holstein is currently developing "The Selfie Project" to help kids share their feelings and thoughts in a meaningful way via Selfies that can reach millions. "The Selfie Project" provides a way for young people to go public on a number of subjects. Bullying is real, school violence is real, drama because of social media is real for kids.
