Author Linda Maria Frank Chosen As Finalist In 2016 '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' Awards
Linda Maria Frank, author of ‘The Mystery of the Lost Avenger’, has been chosen as a finalist in the 2016 ’50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading’ Awards contest. Frank was chosen as the result of a public voting process.
"It's a thrill to be chosen as a finalist," Frank stated. "It's what writers write for, the ability to say something or to tell a story that readers are inspired or entertained when they read your work. Stories help people to connect."
Letters can really change a life. In Linda Maria Frank’s latest Annie Tiller Mystery, the teen detective and her boyfriend, Ty Egan, bump into the intrigue of a past time in American history. A letter from the United States Navy links Annie’s great grandmother with a plane crash from 1943.
A packet of letters between great grandmother, Charlotte Wheeler, and her Navy pilot finance, Frank Bradenton, hint at dangerous goings-on in the defense plant where Charlotte test and flies Avenger fighter planes to military bases on the West Coast.
Annie and Ty become code breakers, delving into the heart-stopping world of World War II to solve 'The Mystery of the Lost Avenger'.
Other books in The Annie Tillery Mystery Series include 'The Madonna Ghost', 'Girl with Pencil, Drawing', and 'Secrets in the Fairy Chimneys'.
Reviewers have high praise for Frank's Annie Tillery Mystery Series. One reviewer stated, “Linda Frank might as well be the next Carolyn Keene with her new age mystery luring readers from every angle--suspense, romance, and modern forensics. This is a perfect book for all ages, particularly young readers who might find Nancy Drew a bit old-fashioned. Written in a way where every chapter leaves you with a crisp, familiar image of each character and location.”
Linda Marie Frank is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below, or by email at lmf217@hotmail.com. All of Linda Frank’s works are available at Amazon. Readers are encouraged to vote at The Authors Show site at http://www.theauthorsshow.com. More information is available at Frank’s website at http://www.lindamariafrank.com.

She taught science, ending her career in the high school as Department Chairperson, teaching biology, chemistry and forensic science. She went on to teach at Hofstra University, forensic science and biotechnology. She also supervised science student teachers at Adelphi University.

Christmas Ideas For Young Readers - 'Biodesign Out For A Walk' By Author Lowell Harrison Young Now Available
Biology is not usually high on the list of life-changing experiences for most students. However most students did not have Lowell Harrison Young as their Biology instructor. Young developed a one-of-a-kind advanced class in biology that dramatically affected the perceptions of hundreds of students and, in many cases, provided a new paradigm that dramatically altered the lives of many of them. 24 years and 700 students later, Young recounts some of these life altering experiences in 'Biodesign Out For A Walk'.
One student and her classmates rightfully and intuitively questioned the validity of memorizing all the parts of a fetal pig, when most of them would likely never have use for that information. When Young opened the door and students were given the chance to discuss what was really important to them, the students opened up and shared hopes, dreams and desires to learn to be more loving, compassionate people.
Over the next 24 years, Young's Biodesign class gave high school students the chance to go into the wilderness and discover the interactions of plants, animals and themselves. Unlike most biology classes, this class was dedicated to studying biology by exercising the illimitable freedom of the human mind and probing the mysteries of the physical, mental and spiritual nature of man.
Following the footsteps of John Muir, they slept on the top of Yosemite’s famous Half Dome and followed Loren Eiseley and John Wesley Powell to the bottom of Grand Canyon. Ed Ricketts and John Steinbeck led them into forests and tide pools of California’s beautiful Mendocino coast.
The book has fifteen 5 star ratings on Amazon. Reviewers have stated, "Your amazing book recounting an amazing set of adventures is too superlative to describe," and, "What you have done for so many students and chaperones is truly remarkable."
'Biodesign Out For A Walk' is a great gift for students in high school or college. Educators could benefit from the unique and engaging stories that might serve to help develop new and exciting approaches to dry subject matters or to help improve attitudes and morale in the classroom.
Lowell Harrison Young is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below, or by email at young.lowell@gmail.com. 'Biodesign Out For A Walk' is available at Amazon, Outskirts Press and Barnes and Noble. A Facebook page is available at http://www.facebook.com/biodesignoutforawalk. The class that evolved into Biodesign was a collaborative, creative project where the roles of teacher and student were often reversed. It was well known by the students that although Mr. Young represented the physical nature of the class, Christie’s silent spiritual guidance was often felt in their classroom circles as well as along the many miles of trails they walked. The Biodesign class may be the only one of its kind taught in a public high school in the country.

Author Linda Maria Frank Chosen As Finalist In '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading'
Linda Maria Frank, author of ‘Secrets Of The Fairy Chimneys’, has been chosen as a finalist in the ’50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading’ Awards contest. The contest is sponsored by The Authors Show.
‘Secrets In The Fairy Chimneys’, written in the tradition of Nancy Drew mysteries, is written in a ‘Nancy Drew meets CSI’ style. The new young adult thriller puts Annie Tillery on a dangerous path in an attempt to unravel a complicated mystery and solve the secrets in the fairy chimneys.
"I love the Authors Show," Frank stated. "What a splendid opportunity the show offers to showcase your books in an attractive way, including an in-depth interview. On top of that is the '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' contest, which enables authors to share with others what writing means to them. Books contain every conceivable idea and story written and told by the authors who provide these gifts to their readers. It is this relationship between authors and readers that keeps the stories of our common awareness alive."
'Secrets In The Fairy Chimneys' is set in exotic Istanbul and Cappadocia, a land of enchanted caves and rock formations. The plot involves ancient mysteries, archaeological secrets, and thieves who will commit murder rather than give up the treasures they steal. Annie acquires new friends. Cedric Zeeks is trying to find a link between his African ancestors and the inhabitants of a 9,000 year old town in Cappadocia. Yelda and Ahmet Atsut, twins with a Ouija board and awesome sleuthing talents, help Annie and boyfriend, Ty Egan, solve the mysteries, both the ancient ones and the ones that threaten them as they work the archaeological dig. This third Annie Tillery Mystery is a real page turner with mystery, romance and an intriguing plot.
The book has a perfect 5 star rating on Amazon. One reviewer stated, "Terrific read. Although I'm not a typical YA reader (a bit too old) I thoroughly enjoy this series. Young Annie Tillery is a character that the reader can engage as she soldiers on with her adventure in the face of some ominous threats. Her relationship with her boyfriend, and archeological dig partner is touching. The scene descriptions of the archeological site in Turkey are well done and enlightening. The author not only knows how to tell a compelling story but she adds some interesting scientific information. I have heard of mitochondrial DNA, but never knew its significance until I read this book.”

Author Lowell Harrison Young Appears On The Authors Show To Discuss "Biodesign Out For A Walk"
Author Lowell Harrison Young appeared on The Author Show recently to discuss his latest release, 'Biodesign Out For A Walk'.
A biology class does not normally serve to provide the meaning of life. But in the case of Lowell Harrison Young's students, an advanced biology class provided the framework to discover the meaning of life.
Today's typical high school students are bored. They are disinterested and forced to memorize rote facts that often have no relevance or meaning to their own lives. Technology has forced them to disconnect from Nature and from each other. However, in Young's Biodesign class, students transcended all of that and went from dissecting fetal pigs to wilderness revelations. They escaped from four drab walls and entered a wilderness classroom under the stars. They went from boredom to mysteries, from profane hallway chatter to discussing the wisdom of Nature's designs. They went from memorization of minutiae to probing the illimitable freedom of their minds. And finally, they connected with Nature, and with each other, to discover the real meaning of life.
"I wrote Biodesign Out For A Walk in hopes that it will resuscitate readers’s waning sense of wonder, mystery and love of life," Young stated. "The work is a collection of stories of curious high school biology students who embarked on what Joseph Campbell described as 'the soul’s high adventure.' It is a thrilling example of what young minds can do when they are challenged to transcend to higher levels of consciousness, compassion and connectedness."
'Biodesign Out For A Walk has received rave reviews and has garnered 16 5-star reviews on Amazon. The book is rated 4.9 out of 5 stars. One reviewer stated, "What Lowell Young has crafted in these pages--and more than that, the experience he created with students for 24 years--is an essential exploration for any reader with an equal passion for tales of authentic education and the natural world. If you find yourself moved to tears, laughter and deeper questions (sometimes in the same chapter) then you'll have joined the caravan of over 700 of his Biodesign students. No doubt he's a fitting heir to the work of Muir, Thoreau, Eiseley, and Darwin, and deserves a comfortable place in that good company."
Lowell Harrison Young is available for media interviews and can be reach using the information below or by email at young.lowell@gmail.com.
'Biodesign Out For A Walk' is available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. More information is available at Young's website at http://www.BiodesignOutForAWalk.com.

Author Lowell Harrison Young Appears On The Author Show To Discuss 'Biodesign Out For A Walk'
“Memorizing all the parts of a pig is a lot of work, and I was just wondering if it were really important in the big picture.”
This was the question asked by a student in Young's classroom. That question laid the foundation for what would become a one-of-a-kind advanced class in biology. 24 years and 700 students later, Young recounts these experiences in 'Biodesign Out For A Walk'. His interview is currently available at The Authors Show.
This student and her classmates rightfully and instinctively questioned the validity of memorizing all the parts of a fetal pig, when most of them would likely never have use for that information. When given the chance to discuss what was important, the students opened up and shared hopes, dreams and desires to learn to be more loving, compassionate people.
For 24 years, Lowell Young taught Biodesign, which gave high school students the chance to go into the wilderness and discover the interactions of plants, animals and themselves. The class was dedicated to studying biology by exercising the illimitable freedom of the human mind and probing the mysteries of the physical, mental and spiritual nature of man.
Following the footsteps of John Muir, they slept on the top of Yosemite’s famous Half Dome. They followed Loren Eiseley and John Wesley Powell to the bottom of Grand Canyon. Ed Ricketts and John Steinbeck led them into forests and tide pools of California’s beautiful Mendocino coast.
"Biodesign out For A Walk," Young stated, "was written as an extended 'thank you' letter to the students who taught me about spiritual biology. I also wanted to offer a tribute to the legacies of John Muir, Henry Thoreau and Loren Eiseley. Finally, I wanted to encourage all teachers to include lessons from inspired scientists, naturalists and sages who approached the universe from an holistic perspective.""
The book has fifteen 5 star ratings on Amazon. Reviewers have stated, "Your amazing book recounting an amazing set of adventures is too superlative to describe," and, "What you have done for so many students and chaperones is truly remarkable."

Dr. Carl O Helvie, author of ‘You Can Beat Lung Cancer: Using Alternative/Integrative Interventions’, has been chosen as a finalist in the ’50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading’ Awards contest. The contest is sponsored by The Authors Show.
’You Can Beat Lung Cancer’ presents an overview of lung cancer followed by the specific natural interventions used by the author when given 6 months to live by conventional medicine—38 years ago and the subsequent interventions used to remain cancer free. Additional chapters in the book are provided by integrative physicians Dr Bernie Siegel, Dr James Forsythe, and Dr Francisco Contreras, and by health professionals Dr Kim Dalzell (nutritionist) and Tanya Harter Pierce (protocel expert). Other chapters in the book discuss how to carry out the holistic interventions used (physical, mental, spiritual) such as radon detection, smoking cessation, meditation, prayer, affirmations, visualization, staying positive, and maintaining faith.
”It is an honor,” Dr. Helvie stated, “to be selected as a finalist in the 50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading contest. Recent responses to my radio, television, newspaper and magazine interviews on natural and alternative holistic treatments for lung cancer discussed in ‘You Can Beat Lung Cancer: Using “Alternative/Integrative Interventions’ and by those supporting my enrollment in this contest reinforces my belief that natural/alternative interventions for cancer are a timely topic. I am excited about and appreciative of this opportunity.”
The book has received numerous positive reviews. In a recent Amazon review, G. Edward Griffin, Author of 'World Without Cancer' and 'The Politics of Cancer Therapy' said that Dr. Helvie's book " . . . is one of the most comprehensive books available on alternative treatments for lung cancer. It explains the treatments used successfully by a health professional/cancer survivor of 38 years and by some of the leading medical and health practitioners currently in the field. It will be useful, not just for the lay reader, but also for therapists and others with a scientific background.”

Author Maralys Wills To Discuss 'Damn The Rejections: Full Speed Ahead' On The Authors Show Radio Through September 2011
Wills is the author of twelve published books, has been teaching novel writing for 25 years and was called by Sidney Sheldon 'a force to be reckoned with'
[September 8, 2010 Santa Ana, CA] Author Maralys Wills will be appearing on The Author Show through September 2011. Ms. Wills is the author of twelve published books and has garnered three national awards. She has been teaching novel-writing for 25 years and in 2000 was named 'Teacher Of The Year'. In this interview she discusses one of her latest books, Damn The Rejections: Full Speed Ahead, and talks about writing and publishing in general. The show airs at The Author Show website through September 2011.
"I wrote this book," stated Ms. Wills, "because it took me 14 years to sell my memoir, Higher Than Eagles." If only I'd had some advice and known what questions to ask (and what writing techniques were needed), the process would have been years shorter. Most of us can't give 14 years to writing and selling our life stories. My book offers practical tips to shorten the process and, while you're at it, make your writing alive and vivid. But you can also read the book as a story--about one author's struggle to get past rejection and find a dramatic life in the world of words."
A treasure trove of sage advice for the new writer packaged in easy to digest and fun to read anecdotes. Damn the Rejections, Full Speed Ahead offers real world suggestions for writing novels or non-fiction and turning them into not only saleable, but bestseller material. Maralys shares from her own experience in the dos and don’ts of getting published.
Sidney Sheldon, bestselling novelist said, "Maralys Wills, genre-hopper extraordinaire, will make you laugh and cry and laugh again in this gripping how-to handbook for writers everywhere. She is clearly a force to be reckoned with."
Ms. Wills' interview will be available through September 2011 at The Authors Show website at www.TheAuthorsShow.com. More information regarding Ms. Wills and her books are available at her websites at DamnTheRejections.com, HigherThanEagles.com, LifeStoriesBooks.com, ClownsandElephants.com and at Maralys.com. Ms. Wills is available for media interview and can be contacted using the information below or by email at maralys@cox.net.
"My advice to artists," Ms. Wills continued, "is simple: When you have a vision, stick to it . . . never allow others to dim it down. As a writer, dismiss your rejections as a temporary barrier and see yourself on the other side. . . as published! Unless a rejection offers useful advice (occasionally they do), your attitude should be, What do they know?"
Damn The Rejections: Full Speed Ahead is available at most national book retailers, online book outlets and anywhere books are sold.

The Bumpy Road To Getting Published
Stephens Press
ISBN 978-1-932173-925
Profile:
Maralys Wills’ twelve published books span several genres and publishers. Her fiction works include four romance novels published by Harlequin and Silhouette, and a techno-thriller about airplane sabotage. The N.Y. Times called SCATTERPATH “exciting, down-to-the-wire stuff . . . her cockpit sequences all but put the reader at the controls.”
Among her non-fictions is MANBIRDS: HANG GLIDERS & HANG GLIDING (Prentice-Hall), a party game book (Price/ Stern/Sloan), and her family story about hang gliding champions, HIGHER THAN EAGLES (Longstreet Press). Sadly, the Wills family lost two sons to the sport, and Wills’ account of those years--initially exhilarating, then tragic--earned her high marks in Publisher’s Weekly and Kirkus. HIGHER THAN EAGLES garnered five movie options, including from Disney.
Wills’ book on addiction, SAVE MY SON, is the result of years of trauma with an addicted son. Research in four states proved that other locales do offer real solutions.
Her recent, light-hearted memoir, A CIRCUS WITHOUT ELEPHANTS, earned a national award from Writer’s Digest. In 2008, Stephens Press published the sequel, A CLOWN IN THE TRUNK, (an Indie award winner), and in 2009, her writing book, DAMN THE REJECTIONS, FULL SPEED AHEAD, which won two national awards.
Wills is the mother of six children--five boys and a girl. Her husband is a lawyer. She studied at Stanford and UCLA, earning a B.A. and a teaching credential. She once helped her sons run a hang gliding manufacturing business, but after the family tragedies she went home to write books.
For the past 22 years, Wills has taught college novel-writing, and in 2000 was voted “Teacher of the Year.” In addition to frequent speaking engagements, she has given numerous writing seminars---at UCLA, UC Riverside, UCI, Orange Coast College, Cerritos College, and at writers’ conferences across the country. She is a past president of the Orange County Chapter of Romance Writers of America.

John J. Murphy, Author of Beyond Doubt, To Appear On The Authors Show TV Through March 2011

John J. Murphy, CEO of Venture Management Consultants and author of nine books, will appear on The Authors Show TV to discuss his latest release, Beyond Doubt: Four Steps To Inner Peace
John J. Murphy, an international business consultant and spiritual mystic, will be appearing on The Authors Show TV through March 2011 to discuss his latest release Beyond Doubt, Four Steps To Inner Peace.
In this book, Murphy invites readers to contemplate their own thoughts, actions, emotions, and choices. This book, his ninth, conveys the author’s powerful message of consciously welcoming positive energy into one's life rather than subconsciously resisting it. Readers will learn that challenging circumstances, stressful dilemmas, and difficult situations exist for a reason. Beyond Doubt helps people understand these reasons and facilitate the release of tension, anxiety, guilt, grief and fear from their lives. The challenge is to overcome the “root cause” to these feelings and doubts, a self-destructive thought-system subconsciously held in mind.
“I wrote this book,” stated Mr. Murphy, “to help people identify and release any subconscious beliefs holding them back. The world is full of fear and doubt, much of it held at the subconscious level of the mind. This means that many people do not even realize this fear exists. They simply respond to life with hesitation, doubt, resistance and limiting beliefs. Learning to live life ‘beyond doubt’ is a very freeing and enlightening experience. It is how we are meant to live. This is our true nature, our authentic self.”
It is not always easy to ‘let be and let go,’ two of the four steps in what Murphy calls ‘The Ring of Peace,’ a relatively simple model designed to help ordinary people experience extraordinary peace of mind. Though the Ring of Peace model is simple, it is an extremely powerful method for learning to overcome fear, stress, negativity and doubt.
“When times get tough,” Murphy continued, “it is quite common for people to cling to what they know, even if it is bringing them down. This is like grabbing an electric wire and instead of letting go we grip the wire tighter, causing further pain. We react with attachment rather than release. Even worse, we follow with behaviors like blame, denial, resistance and rationalization.”
Mr Murphy’s interview will appear on The Authors Show TV version through March 2011. Other media appearances include an interview with Paul Kopenkoskey in The Grand Rapids Press radio interviews on the Andy And Chuck show on WTRV in Grand Rapids, MI and an appearance on The Authors Show radio. He is available for interview and can be contacted using the information below or by email at johnmurphy@venturemanagementconsultants.com. Astrid Harris, Author Of Unstoppable Confidence, Discusses How To Develop Self Confidence On Authors Web TV
Astrid Harris, author of Unstoppable Confidence provides specific strategies to develop self confidence and overcome the fear of failure
Astrid Harris, author of Unstoppable Confidence, will be appearing on Authors Web TV through October 12, 2010.
All people share common fears and challenges. From fear to depression, anxiety to a simple lack of confidence, these issues know no personal boundaries. They affect all people, from schoolchildren to business owners, from mom to corporate executives. The development of self confidence is a subject that is not taught in schools, but must rather be developed through life experience or training.
Astrid Harris has recently released Unstoppable Confidence. The book provides six breakthrough steps to help build self-confidence using case studies, exercises, assignments and empowering techniques.
“I wrote this book,” stated Ms. Harris, “to help people overcome negative feelings, to empower their actions by overcoming self defeating attitudes and change thinking patterns that limited the possibility of achievement."
Unstoppable Confidence provides information regarding how to develop a ‘Confidence Role Model’ to learn how others approach life and to model that in our own lives. It also details why a strong inner belief system is vital in building self confidence and clearly details strategies to overcome negative messages, whether those message come from ourself or from others. The key to developing self confidence lies in the choices we make.
“Today,” stated Ms. Harris, “having a high level of self confidence is imperative. People are trying so hard to keep their jobs or find new ones without depleting savings and avoiding financial ruin. These are all very powerful adversaries that can beat down someone's self confidence and self-worth."”
Unstoppable Confidence is available in both hardcover and e-book formats at the author’s website, Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.. Ms. Harris is available for interview and can be contacted using the information below, or by email at astrid@polyglot-network.com.

Lois W. Stern, Author Of Sex, Lies and Cosmetic Surgery, Featured On The Authors Show Radio
Nationally known author and expert on cosmetic surgery details how to make cosmetic surgery experience a success.
Nationally known author and expert on cosmetic surgery, Lois W. Stern, will appear on Authors Show Radio through November 7, 2009.
In this interview Lois provides advice taken from her book, Sex, Lies and Cosmetic Surgery, which features the real life experiences of over 100 women who have had cosmetic surgery (including those of the author), to help anyone considering cosmetic surgery make good decisions. But a further strength and focus of her book is its exploration into the emotional undercurrents to this event. Sex, Lies and Cosmetic Surgery including those of the author. Her candid, open and honest approach to formerly taboo subjects such as post-surgery sexuality, patients’ feelings of attraction toward their plastic surgeons and underlying ambivalences and unrecognized motivations make this a groundbreaking book on many levels. In the Foreword to Sex, Lies and Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. David Sarwer, Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, writes: “Stern does readers a great favor in examining these “don’t ask, don’t tell experiences. “
Stern provides many helpful charts, checklists and quizzes to educate and guide the prospective cosmetic surgery patient, helping them to answer crucial questions such as: What facts should I know before deciding on cosmetic surgery? How do I determine if I am a good cosmetic surgery candidate? How can I best evaluate the skills, talent and experience of a surgeon? What are the most important questions to ask during a consultation? What are the essential facts I need to share? How do I best partner with my surgeon for optimal results? A comprehensive timeline checklist detailing what to do when provides many helpful tips each step of the way.
”‘I think it is important for people to understand,” stated Ms. Stern, “how cosmetic surgery can impact relationships in our daily lives, in the workplace, in our social interactions – even in the bedroom. There are many good reasons to consider cosmetic surgery. However, there are just as many bad reasons to consider having this surgery."
Sex, Lies and Cosmetic Surgery is now in its second printing, and will soon be released with an interactive CD to expand its usefulness while offering audio and video segments not found in the original book. Last year Sex, Lies and Cosmetic Surgery was featured on page 2 of the Style section of the New York Times. It has garnered a number of industry awards including: Montauk Sun Book of the Month (April 2007), The Infinite Writer Book of the Month (May of 2007) and Wizards of Words Book of the Month (June of 2007).
