Mark Gordon Smith of Private Italy Tours made a sizeable donation in memory of his mother, artist Helen D. Smith that put AWA over their crowdfunding goal
Advancing Women Artists Foundation has announced they have reached the $65,000 crowdfunding goal to restore the sixteenth-century 'Last Supper' by Florentine convent artist Plautilla Nelli. This is the only work in the world on this theme painted by a woman, and it will now be returned to its ‘original dignity’ thanks to contributors from all over the world.
409 donors from 19 countries contributed. Their awareness became a concrete gesture of love. Thanks to the $66,810 dollars raised, the AWA Foundation and its restoration team can work together to safeguard this fundamental example of female artistic talent. Nelli’s work, discussed by Italy’s first art historian Giorgio Vasari in his 'Lives', is being restored to its rightful place among Renaissance Italian masters. 'This Last Supper' will be a gift to Florence, Nelli’s beloved home city. Once conservation is completed, it will be permanently displayed in the soon-to-be revamped Museum of Santa Maria Novella, an iconic location in the heart of Florence, a place which represents all the beauty and culture of one of the world’s best-loved art capitals.
AWA extends heartfelt thanks to all those who have worked so tirelessly to remember the forgotten women artists in history. They have supported a campaign which enormously benefited from the efforts of our dedicated partners. On the Florence scene, a special mention goes to Dario Nardella Mayor of Florence, Florentine actress Elena Sofia Ricci and the city’s Councilor for Welfare of Equal Opportunity Sara Funaro, in addition to the city’s Civic Museum Services, in charge of curating the conservation efforts. We share this ‘victory’ with FLOD, the communications agency that curated the entire campaign and our ‘prize partners’: the Medici Dynasty Show, Casa dell’Orafo Nerdi, the artisanal perfumery AquaFlor, Palazzo Spinelli, the Savoy Hotel of Rocco Forte Hotels and The Florentine, Florence and Tuscany’s English-language newspaper.
Mark Gordon Smith, President of Private Italy Tours LTD, kicked the campaign over the goal with a sizeable donation made in memory of his mother, artist Helen D. Smith. Following a diagnosis of cancer when the family was living in Tirrenia in the 1950s, she had to return to the United States and was never able to return to her beloved Italia.
"Our donation,” Mark explains, "is made with the hope that all women will be inspired by the story of a dedicated artist whose genius is just now coming to light, whose love of craft created such a legacy."
About AWA:
As stated on their website, "Advancing Women Artists Foundation, an American not-for-profit 501(c)(3), is committed to identifying, restoring and exhibiting artwork by women in Florence’s museum storages. As of today, compelling artistic treasures continue to be a silent, undiscovered part of the city’s creative heritage. Through education (lectures, books, seminars, and conferences) and by exhibiting these works in Florence and abroad, it will be possible to show this vital cultural legacy and its importance in Florence, in Italy and to the world."

Helping Homeless Cats Find Homes - Milan's First Cat Cafe Working To Open Doors
Caffe Mici Amici's goal is to help homeless cats find forever homes and to help cat lovers connect with homeless and abused cats
All over the world, cat cafes have skyrocketed in popularity. Why? They help cats find both temporary and permanent homes. And they help cat lovers connect with homeless and abused cats.
Caffe Mici Amici's goal is to provide a forever home for every homeless and abused cat in the city of Milan, Italy. They have launched a crowd funding campaign on Indiegogo to gather resources to open Milan Italy's first cat cafe. The new cafe has two important goals - help cats and help people who love cats.
Their first goal is to give a chance to as many shelter cats as possible to find their forever home. They will have many exciting activities and special speakers to help shelter kitties find homes and will be working closely with the shelters and Animal Protection Agency in Milan.
Their second goal is to have a place where people from all walks of life can have a cup of coffee, something delicious to eat in a friendly, relaxing, and stress-free environment, all the while spending quality time playing with kitties.
In addition they will be tapping into the artistic talents of local artists and sculptors to display their works in their art gallery and creating job opportunities in a challenging economy.
The crowd funding campaign, headed by Judith Moore-Shahverdian, will allow the cafe to:
* Lease a property to create this unique cat cafe in accordance with health and safety standards both for kitties and humans.
* Purchase furniture, equipment, and stock for both cats and customers and to set up services for customers such as internet access.
* Select the Mici Amici Cats, especially older cats who are less adoptable because of their age, and giving them a forever home. All cats will be under a vet's supervision, neutered, vaccinated, and micro-chipped. Once the cats and kitties are selected, they will be given a "getting-to-know-you" period, both with each other and humans, at Caffè Mici Amici.
The Caffe Mici Amici crowd funding campaign begins May 14, 2014. Judith Moore-Shahverdian is available for media interviews and general inquiries. Questions regarding the cafe or the campaign can be addressed to info@caffemiciamici.com. More information is available at the website at http://www.igg.me/at/caffemiciamici

Palestinians Misrepresented In American Media - Terror Expert And Consultant Tony Attanasio Issues Statement
Attanasio is the author of a one true to life story and two historically based fiction books dealing with crime and terrorism. As an expert on terrorism, he believes much of the furor around the Palestinians has been created by American media outlets
When one reads articles in the US Media that depict Palestinians living in abject poverty, suffering harassment constantly by the Israelis, the astute reader soon learns that this information is not always accurate. It doesn’t really take much research to bring to light the readily available history and current events that give a solid rebuttal to these claims.
"The Obama Administration," Attanasio stated, "recently gave the Palestinian Authority (PA) 450 million dollars. This is in addition to 950 million dollars that has been given outright to the PA over the past few years. Several Counter Terrorism experts have stated that a good deal of this funding finds its way into private bank accounts and five star hotels on the Gaza beach front. Unfortunately, some of this funding finds its way to Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad for weaponry such as rockets and mortars. The US is one of the main contributors to the PA treasury. Also and never reported is the support received by the PA directly from Israel."
"Recently, a DNA testing took place to determine the origins of Palestinians. Simply, they are Arabs. So with this said where is the assistance from the Arab world in supporting and creating the State of Palestine? Both Israel and the US are not opposed to its formation. The assistance we have seen and documented from the Arab world is the payments up to $50,000 dollars to the families of Shaeed (suicide bombers.) These funds have come mainly from rich Saudis and Hezbollah, which is based in nearby Lebanon."
"So why this treatment of brother Arabs? Simply put, they are not well liked or welcomed in most Arab lands. Many Arab countries actually have created laws and rulings to keep the Palestinian populations in their land from achieving both population growth and in many cases citizenship. Let’s look at some of these rulings that control the Palestinian populations:
-Not allowed to become citizens of Arab countries, in accordance with Arab League Decree 1547 for 1959, "in order to preserve the Palestinian entity and Palestinian identity."
-Even in Jordan they can no longer become citizens. (There have been some exceptions: Palestinian Christians in Lebanon in the 1950s, Palestinians born from Egyptian mothers in 2011.)
-Palestinians face severe travel restrictions throughout the Arab world. They do not receive passports and their travel documents are only accepted by a few countries.
-Palestinians cannot vote or run for office in national elections in Arab nations
-Children born to Palestinians do not get citizenship in their host countries, violating Article 7 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
In the full statement on my site I break this down by country, including Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar and Syria.”
"Recently a poll taken among Palestinians indicate that no matter how badly they are treated by their brother Arabs....it is America they hate more. This was obvious on 9/11/01, when Palestinians took to the streets of Gaza and the West bank dancing, rejoicing and giving out candy in celebration of the horrific attack that killed over 3000 people of which many were of Arab descent."
Tony Attanasio is a terrorism consultant and an accomplished writer who writes from direct personal experience. Tony was seriously injured in a line-of-duty incident that ended his career with NYPD. He subsequently served ten years with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), where he served as an Intelligence specialist. Attanasio writes from real world experience. Tony has had a long career in investigating organized crime, money laundering, and radical Islam. His books have received national acclaim and five star reviews. Tony has consulted for Robert DiNiro in establishing authenticity for his film ‘Ronan’.
"If Arab nations," Attanasio continued, "would support their brother Palestinians in achieving a separate State of their own, they would then be able to resolve the issues that they have put into place in their respective countries relative to the Palestinian populations. But it seems that radical Islam wants very much for the present Palestinian situation to continue. They want the world to see Palestinians, as one would view an open wound with Israel causing a mass infection and preventing a cure. "
"The so called 4th estate badly needs to return to factual reporting of news events as they have occurred and stop creating news events that serve their political whim at that given moment."

US Military In Australia: Acclaimed Author And Islamic Terrorism Consultant Tony Attanasio Releases Statement On Weakening US Military
According to sources quoted in the media, the US military presence in Northern Australia means US Marines are returning to their role as 'ambassadors'. Attanasio believes that may not be enough
Brig. Gen. Richard Simcock, deputy commander of Marine Corps Forces Pacific recently stated that the Australian government has opened the door for a force of 1,100 US Marines to rotate in Darwin in Australia's Northern Territory beginning next summer. According to other news sources Marine Maj. Maurice Brown said the gradual end of the war in Afghanistan means Marines are going back to traditional roles as 'ambassadors' and coming into the Pacific to take advantage of training opportunities.
"Why Australia - are there other unforeseen and underlying motives?" asked Attanasio, "as we know that President Obama did state some time back that the US needs to make 'a presence' in the Pacific area. Is the truth behind this move based on China’s decades long ambition to take Taiwan back - a country they consider a province of mainland China? Is this so called strategic move based on the ranting and raves of North Korea? Or all of the above?"
"China," Attanasio continued, "has stated that by 2020, they are doubling their fleet and that includes naval infantry. Will they be concerned with a battalion of Marines stationed in the northern territories of Australia? Russia has beefed up the Russian military and has broken several agreements with the US and NATO. What about the behemoth North Korean and Iranian military?"
"President Obama recently cut Army brigades and mothballed Navy ships. The longtime plan is to cut the size of the service by 80,000. We do not have the military we once had prior to 2009. This could go downhill and fast. It would take just one incident. Obviously our "token" forces do not strike fear into the heart of our so-called enemies. Remember World War I? One bullet lead to a world conflict. Remember World War II? Dunkirk? The old adage that history repeats itself? Comparing events taking place today on our shaky globe reminds me of 1939 – an evil storm followed."
“Another problem arises - if we were thrown into another world conflict, the Draft would have to return. 40% of our young draft age males are physically and mentally unable to fit the role of a soldier. Another 25% stated that they would refuse to go. This to the embarrassment of the American people would further danger our existing military as well as place the United States in harm's way. This is not the youth of the Great generation. This is the ‘what is good for me’ generation."

“All branches of our military,” Attanasio continued, “have been cut to the bone. Does President Obama believe that the presence of a few thousand Marines in Australia, or for that matter 300 Marines on the Syrian/Jordanian border, will strike fear into the hearts of the enemy? Iran has countered this move with 4000 Revolutionary Guard and Me. Putin has sent 600 Russian Marines on two warships to the coastal waters of Syria. It should be obvious to President Obama that neither Iran nor Russia wants a radical Sunni presence in Syria. Both are not happy with President Obama's continued support of the Sunni rebels, particularly al-Nusra; the al -Qaeda faction."

Brig.

Acclaimed Florida Author And Islamic Terrorism Consultant Tony Attanasio Releases New Novel, 'The Iranian Connection: Code Word Orchid'
The new novel details the actions of Iranian and Hezbollah operatives who hope to detonate a nuclear device in NYC. It also highlights events that lead to the creation of the Office of Homeland Security
Tony Attanasio has released his reality based suspense novel, “The Iranian Connection: Code Word Orchid”. The new novel is an internationally-flavored novel which relates the actions of Iranian and Hezbollah operatives who planned in great detail to detonate a nuclear device in New York City in order to weaken The United States’ support for Israel in post September 11 months, as well as greatly disrupt the US economy. US Federal law enforcement assets work at odds with, and then in concert with, one another to foil the deadly explosion. The story develops characters on both sides of the plot and highlights the now infamous non-cooperation among law enforcement agencies in the United States that made the Office of Homeland Security a reality.

“I wrote this book, Attanasio stated, based on experiences while serving in the EU. I saw firsthand the zeal that was displayed by the Islamists and how the Palestinians were used as pawns in these violent radical endeavors. I also learned quickly just who our friends were.....And who were not...... A close family member (not injured) at a meeting in the Pentagon on 9/11/01, really woke me up pertaining to the threat of Global Jihad.”
