November is National Adoption Month. The term adoption has evolved considerably in modern Western society. While the term adoption used to primarily signify the adoption of a child, these days we can also adopt a dog or a cat - or nearly any pet for that matter. We can adopt a family, a tree, a highway and, surprisingly, we can even adopt an embryo not yet born.
