Bestselling Author Dr Barbara Becker Holstein Announces New Interview With Award Winning Children's Book Author Julia Cook On Resilience And Self Esteem

Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein is a bestselling author and visionary filmmaker who uses positive psychology concepts to help kids deal with bullying, anxiety, depression, loneliness, school shootings, and social media issues. In the tradition of authors like Judy Blume, Dr. Holstein pushes the envelope in covering the challenges girls really face without sugarcoating it or downplaying the feelings or passions young girls experience.

All of us would agree that growing up has always posed significant challenges, but the modern day environment, particularly for girls grappling with body image, psychological stress, school shootings, lockdowns, anxiety, climate change and cyberbullying is beyond most kids' ability to cope. The traditional roles of parents, grandparents, and educators have been diminished, as many older adults struggle to even begin to comprehend these new realities. This disconnect underscores the need for innovative approaches to support the mental health and resilience of today's youth, ensuring they receive guidance that is both relevant and effective. How can we reach them? And, assuming we can reach them, what should we offer them?

We can't change the world. But we can teach young people coping skills that will serve them.

Resilience, which could be described as the ability to recover from setbacks, adapt well to change, and keep going in the face of adversity, is a cornerstone of mental well-being.

Self-esteem on the other hand is the internal perception of one’s worth and abilities. It is the core of a young person’s emotional health. High self-esteem enables children to approach tasks with confidence, take risks in learning, and engage socially without undue fear of judgment.

Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein recently interviewed award-winning author Julia Cook on her Resilence and Self Esteem Podcast. Their conversation was lively, serious and enlightening. Julia is nationally recognized as an award-winning children’s book author and parenting expert. Her books have been referenced in such publications as Parent’s Magazine, The New Yorker, Green Child Magazine, The Huffington Post, The Chicago Tribune, Yahoo.com, DrLaura.com and BabyZone.com. She has also been featured on CNN’s HLN News and local news shows in many major metropolitan areas.

Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Julia became actively involved in teaching children how to ski, an experience that led to a love of teaching in general. Her Master’s degree is in Elementary School Counseling. While serving as a professional school counselor, Julia often used children’s books to enhance her classroom lessons.

"The truth is there are tons of children's books written," Dr. Holstein stated. "Why was I so excited to have Julia Cook on my new podcast show: Resilience and Self Esteem? Because Julia as a writer goes way beyond just stories for kids. She understands the psychological stresses that kids are under and weaves those stresses into her books in ways that help the children find the courage to go beyond their own moods and disappointments as they read the books. She teaches them to emotionally fly without needing the sky.

"Likewise there are many other devoted authors who have taught kids to fly as they read one of their books. Judy Blume instantly comes to my mind.In her books she has found ways to engage her girls so they are no longer afraid to face so many of the struggles of coming of age that we all have or will fash.

"I remember my sister saying to me that she couldn't imagine making it to adulthood without Judy Blume. Via Judy's books my sister and millions of other girls got comfortable with their periods, divorce, needing a bra, family life that wasn't perfect and so much more.

"I am so eager to have compassionate authors on my podcast. It is time to share their wisdom again and again. Our girls need our help in so many ways to lessen their stress and improve their mental health. A good book that accepts a girl where she is and helps her move forward is a major source of mental health care. Whether the author studied psychology or not. Just like a delicious meal or a wonderful day out you don't always need credentials. But you do need the right forces to come together.

"Let's make sure we bring the best authors and psychologists and others who have helped kids to the forefront. I can do that via my podcast and others can find their own way of helping our girls.

"I know as a positive psychologist helping a girl can be as simple as getting to know the kids on your block. I remember when I was growing up the lady next door took a pottery class and had made a bunny. She gave it to me out of the blue and I loved that bunny for many years. Being kind and inclusive is easy once you start it. I salute Julia Cook and Judy Blume for their courage to share their writing skills and wisdom with so many children.

A Collection Of Captivating Stories About Special Needs Children Featured In Upcoming Book By Jody Sharpe, Special Needs Children, The Angels On My Shoulder - https://bit.ly/3d6fcoM

Sharpe's previously published books are riveting inspirational thrillers written in honor of her daughter Kate and her husband Steve.

[Wilmington, NC, June 16, 2020] If we are honest we must admit we make assumptions about special needs kids. Jody Sharpe, an award winning author and former teacher, breaks those assumptions in her upcoming book; a book that is as entertaining as it is illuminating. Readers will likely never look at special needs children in the same way again.

Sharpe worked with special needs kids for many years. In 'Special Needs Children, The Angels On My Shoulder', She gives us a penetrating and remarkable look at her day to day interaction with her students that will likely be of interest to educators, counselors and parents. It is a book that will both entertain and inform.

“I never wonder what life would have been like without my career teaching students with special needs.”, Sharpe stated “It's been a life enriched with hope, love and awakening. These children, unknowingly, are heaven's gift to us all.”

The new book follows her recently released children's book about angels, "When The Angel Sent Butterflies". The new book helps children understand that love from their parents and others surrounds them. Love conquers fear and believing that angels are near can help sweep any childhood fear away. This concept is presented in the book when Angel Ken sends Jones and Kate butterflies. The book, appropriate for ages 2 to 7, is now available at Amazon and Ingram.

Jody's works center on angels on earth and the expression of their love and protection through synchronicity. On the 'Tuesdays With The Angels' section of her site, Sharpe presents stories of real life encounters with angels. The stories are available at Sharpe's website at http://www.jodysharpe.com.

In Sharpe's earlier, highly acclaimed novels, angels take on human form and interact with humanity in a variety of ways:

Town of Angels - It is angel vs. bully in the town of Mystic Bay, California, where a well kept secret lies. Angels live as humans there. After angels appeared to three children all was blissful in the town full of psychics, and ordinary folk. But as a bully, Klaus Waxman, comes to town, Angel Ken Leighton, a storeowner, must carefully guide his flock of humans not to give to in to the bully’s efforts. As Klaus opens a store mocking the resident angels sightings, Angel Ken guides psychic Justine Greer and her family to thwart his efforts. And with the help of the indomitable oldest psychic in town, Madam Norma, the bully meets his match with soft voices and intuitive minds…

To Catch An Angel - Jody is also the author of 'To Catch An Angel', written in memory of her late husband Steve. In 'To Catch An Angel', miracles happen in Mystic Bay, California, the town with the psychic and angel vibe. Angels are calling. Psychic Maggie Malone returns home to find she's swept up in the miracle of it all. She can't imagine why her mother left or who her father might be. But these questions pale in comparison to the wonder of the angels. Maggie meets writer, Noah Greenstreet. They realize they've met before, but where? Maggie and Noah embark on a journey to find our world is all awash with angels.

The Angel's Daughter - A secret lies in Mystic Bay, California and only two people know it. First there’s Hannah, a tender curly headed half Angel Then there’s her father, Gabe, an effervescent, teddy bear of a full-blooded angel. And it’s up to Hannah to keep the secret safe but she’s made a colossal mistake telling her ex-boyfriend and writing professor, Sam Blakely. Now he’s written a book exposing the secret to the world.

Sharpe presents stories and interviews about angels in her 'Tuesdays With The Angels' blog series. She is now accepting submissions of angel stories for possible inclusion. She hopes to create a collection of angel stories that involve sightings of angels, interaction with angels, miraculous angel encounters and other types of accounts or stories. All submissions will be considered, but inclusion is not guaranteed. Stories may be submitted at http://bit.ly/2FV8amd.

Jody was chosen as a winner in the annual '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' Book Awards'. She was chosen from a field of hundreds of authors through a public voting process.

Sharpe's previously published books are riveting inspirational thrillers written in honor of her daughter Kate and her husband Steve.

Special needs children are bullied like the rest of us - perhaps even more so. Who better to write about the subject than former Special Education teacher and award winning author Jody Sharpe? Sharpe worked with special needs kids for many years and recently announced an upcoming book, 'Special Needs Children, The Angels On My Shoulder'.

"Teaching children with special needs taught me life long lessons about bullying, misconceptions, kindness and unconditional love. This is a memoir I had to write for when sadness came these students were angels on my shoulder."

Special Needs Kids And Bullying - Award Winning Author Jody Sharpe Announces New Book, Two New Installments On Tuesdays With The Angels

Sharpe's previously published books are riveting inspirational thrillers written in honor of her daughter Kate and her husband Steve.

While bullying is cruel in every form, perhaps nowhere is that more true than when the victim is a special needs child. And perhaps nobody knows this better than those who have worked daily with special needs kids. Award winning author and former Special Education teacher Jody Sharpe worked with special needs kids for many years and recently announced she will now bring her stories to life via a soon to be released book titled "The Angels On The Writers' Shoulder".

In a recent blog posts she related one of these events:

"In 'When The Angel Sent Butterflies', I decided to write my grandchildren as the characters," Sharpe wrote. "In the story little Kate is afraid of bees and Jones tells her how mommy says angels protect them. From his hands Angel Ken sends butterflies to them and Jones is delighted as one lights on his finger. Little Kate becomes unafraid when a butterfly lands on her shoulder and a bee passes by. The children realize butterflies and bees are their friends.

"Yet a most amazing serendipitous moment has occurred. Soon after reading my book, Jones was in the backyard and became afraid of a bee passing by just as little Kate was afraid in my storybook. Then another little miracle … a white butterfly fluttered by and Jones was not only thrilled but his fear left too. Was it just a coincidence?"

The full story is available at Sharpe's website in the 'Tuesdays With The Angels' section.

In Sharpe's highly acclaimed novels, the angels take on human form and interact with humanity in a variety of ways:

Child Abduction And Keeping Kids Safe - New Children's Book, Paddy The Wee Leprechaun By Viki Doyle Heagy, Teaches Children About The Danger Of Wandering Too Far From Home

Heagy writes faith based, inspiring children's books that focus on issues such as bullying, teamwork, shyness, friendship and character building.

A missing child is a parent's greatest fear. It is urgent that all of us - parents, grandparents and educators - impress upon children, (without frightening them), that the world can be a dangerous place. Author Viki Doyle Heagy has written an enchanting and entertaining children's book that does just that, featuring a fascinating character, Paddy the Wee Leprechaun. The book teaches this simple lesson in a way that will engage children in an exciting adventure and would be especially appropriate as a St. Patrick's Day gift.

Paddy is adventurous which tends to get him into trouble. One day he is late home for dinner. His mother is extremely worried and calls upon all leprechauns and fairies in the glen to help search for him. Will Paddy be found? And will Paddy learn from his mistake? This exciting tale will have kids guessing and wondering where Paddy is while presenting a moral to the story, teaching young children not to stray too far away from home.

"Paddy The Wee Leprechaun was originally written for my children," Heagy stated. "I wanted a story that was entertaining and characters that children would love. As the story evolved, I realized that I had the opportunity to convey a valuable lesson to children. This book stresses the importance of staying close to home and the dangers of wandering off.

"My goal for this book is to make Paddy The Wee Leprechaun a book for all seasons, not just for St Patrick’s Day. I hope this book will provide an opening for parents and teachers to talk to children about the importance of letting an adult know where they are at all times and the dangers they can encounter. Child abduction and human trafficking are huge problems in the world today. Since 1983, May 25th has been designated as National Missing Children’s Day. In 2001, The Global Missing Children’s Network made this International Missing Children’s Day as well. If this book helps just one child to remain safe, I will be happy."

Viki believes reading to children is the best gift you can give them. It opens up a new world of adventure and knowledge. Stories should be fun and teach a lesson. A favorite quote of Viki’s is attributed to Albert Einstein. He said “If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.”

Heagy was inspired to write children's book as her grandchildren love story time and look forward to the quality time spent with their “Kiki”. When they started pre-school, Viki realized that her granddaughters had concerns about a number of issues. In response she has produced four kids books to date:

Izzie The Inchworm's First Day of School
This book, for preschoolers up to age 8, features Izzie and her friends Barney Beetle, Flora Firefly, Lucy Ladybug and Sam and Stan the Spider twins.

Izzie and her friends provide important lessons on shyness, friendship and character building. This book also provides an opening for a discussion on bullying.

Barney's Clubhouse Adventure
Barney’s Clubhouse Adventure is an entertaining story about teamwork. It picks up the story line from the first book, Izzie the Inchworm’s First Day of School. Barney, Izzie and their friends decide to meet and work on the project. They all have different ideas on how to build the clubhouse. They begin working individually. Disagreements occur. After some discussion, they finally decide on a design.

Barney and his friends learn how to communicate and work together. They realize that by working together as a team, they can accomplish a lot. Everyone uses their talent to help build a fun place to play and hangout. They learn that Together Everyone Achieves More.

Lucy Ladybug Becomes a Big Sister
Lucy Ladybug is excited. Her parents are adopting! Her new brothers and sisters come from Hawaii. Mr. and Mrs. Ladybug host a luau to welcome them to the forest. The new ladybug kids have shells that are a pretty purple. Their adoptive family have red shells. This blended family knows that all that matters is love. Children will learn that color does not matter. Love and acceptance are the key issues.

Lucy Ladybug Becomes a Big Sister centers on adoption and deals with diversity of color. This new adventure will keep children on the edge of their seat while learning a positive lesson. The Izzie The Inchworm series provides a fun way to talk to your children about the issues they face today.

Paddy the Wee Leprechaun
An enchanting and entertaining story following the disappearance of Paddy the Wee Leprechaun. Paddy is adventurous which tends to get him into trouble. One day he is late for dinner. His mother becomes extremely worried and calls upon the leprechauns and fairies in the glen to help search for him. Will Paddy be found?

This exciting tale will have readers guessing where Paddy is while presenting a lesson, teaching children not to stray too far away from home.

Dr. Nicole is a multi-award winning best-selling author, based in Quebec. She writes children’s books that educate, inspire and teach valuable life lessons.

Multi-award-winning children's book author Dr. Nicole has announced the release of a new book in the Felix and Booboo Series, 'Charles Hurt Himself Playing: Broken Arm'. The new book is one of a series of eight books that address medical issues and make them understandable for young children. The goal is to increase the child's understanding of her body and to help eliminate fear of diseases and medical procedures. This series is also available in French (Félix et Boubou) in paperback, Kindle and PDF versions.

A broken bone is a traumatic medical event for many children. In this book, Charles breaks his arm after falling from a swing. With his magical doctor’s bag in hand, Felix takes Charles to the hospital. Booboo and his team apply a cast on his arm. Readers will learn the secret of broken bones healing.

"My true intentions regarding writing this series are to inspire children to read, to set their imaginations free and to encourage good decision making regarding health, safety and critical thinking," Dr. Nicole stated. "Writing children’s books is a way for me to give back and be a positive resource to the community. It is a way that I can positively express myself while having some fun and at the same time be a positive role model for both children and caregivers. Children who break an arm or a leg have many questions. This inspired me to write a book on this medical topic in my Felix and Booboo series."

In addition to broken bones, other subjects covered in the series include gastroenteritis, vaccinations, head lice, allergies, the human body, otitis and chickenpox. She explains the procedures clearly and in a very methodical way to young readers. The quiz at the end of the book is fun. The illustrations are charming and they bring the characters, scenes, and concept alive to readers. The author’s experience as a doctor has been put to good use through this book. It is a lovely book to have in one’s personal collection at home as it can be read out to children many times to make them understand what needs to be done in situations like this, when there is a fall and an arm is broken. Educators and tutors can use it in classrooms and school libraries to help children understand the concept."

She receives a beautiful princess sticker for her collection. Young readers of this book will find out all the secrets of a medical visit and vaccination.

"My true intentions regarding writing Felix and Booboo series are to inspire children to read, to set their imaginations free and to encourage good decision-making regarding health, safety and critical thinking," Dr. Nicole stated. "Writing children's books is a way for me to give back and be a positive resource to the community. It is a way that I can positively express myself while having some fun and at the same time be a positive role model for both children and caregivers. I hope that my books inspire children to set their minds free and work to make the world a better place. In the book Maya Visits Her Doctor, my intention was to explain the annual medical visit and pre-school vaccination. I hope it may help parents and their care givers to prepare their children before visiting their doctor."

In addition to vaccinations, other subjects covered in the series include gastroenteritis, broken bones, head lice, allergies, the human body, otitis and chickenpox. All of the books in the series can be used by educators and medical professionals to help kids understand that these types of conditions are normal and are not to be feared or avoided.

In the traditions of Walt Disney and Dr. Seuss, Dr. Nicole breathes life into inanimate objects and wildly entertaining characters that engage children in powerful ways. Through the parent/child interaction, her works develop a love for reading while helping children develop the most important skill of all - critical thinking. If a child can master the art of critical thinking, nearly everything else falls into place.

Dr. Nicole’s books have won numerous international awards. A full listing of the awards can be found on her website.

'Maya Visits Her Doctor: Vaccination' has received Readers’ Favorite 5 stars. Reviewer Mamta Madhavan for Readers' Favorite stated, "The concept is excellent as it helps children like Maya to get rid of their fears. The quiz at the end of the book is educational and fun. The illustrations are delightful and they bring the characters and the story alive. I like the manner in which the author describes Maya’s check-up at Doctor Bones’ office and her vaccination. She makes children aware of what goes on inside a doctor’s clinic in an engaging and interesting way. This series is a must-have in one's personal collection as it enables parents to help children understand different concepts and situations in a way that is appealing. It is a good story for classroom storytelling and read aloud sessions as children can be taught about medical visits in a fun and interactive way."

Dr. Nicole also received recognition as one of Quebec's Top 10 Women by the Maman Dion Foundation. The Maman Dion foundation was founded by Thérèse Tanguay-Dion, known as Maman Dion, a television personality and the Céline Dion’s mother. The Maman Dion Foundation is an educational foundation that provides support to underprivileged children in the form of clothing, eyewear and school supplies.
