Secrets By Dr Barbara Becker Holstein Achieves Bestseller Status In Teen & Young Adult Self Esteem Ebooks

Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein is a best-selling author and film maker who uses positive psychology concepts to help kids deal with bullying, anxiety, depression, loneliness, school shootings and social media issues.

It is heart-wrenching to witness the immense hurdles we must ask our children, as young a six years old, to navigate. The impact of social media is profound—this form of communication serves as both a means of connection and a source of isolation. Loneliness has extended its influence into the virtual world, affecting our youth in unprecedented ways. The specter of school shootings, a haunting nightmare ingrained in our collective consciousness, forces us to teach our children, who are barely beginning their journey in this world, how to protect themselves. Bullying can now follow our kids relentlessly, thanks to the pervasive influence of social media. The consequences? Depression, anxiety and tragically, even suicide, affecting children as young as eight years old. For many of our kids, pixels seem to carry more weight than spoken words. How can we, as parents and educators, hope to grasp the depth of these challenges, let alone provide our children with the tools to build self-esteem and resilience in the face of this new normal?

We must meet them where they are, and help them navigate this maze, using tools and concepts they can understand and find engaging . That is the goal of 'Secrets', the bestselling ebook by Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein. Secrets recently achieved bestseller status on Amazon in the Teen & Young Adult Self Esteem Ebooks category.

Secrets employs positive psychology concepts wrapped in a self-esteem workbook format. Every girl is offered a creative opportunity to develop her creative talents and potential as she processes and better understands the angst of growing up and how it can be successfully handled. She can bring her own talents to her thoughts and responses to the issues presented which will further take her along a road of enhanced resilience and better self esteem. She can use it as a depression and anxiety workbook, write her creative thoughts, create poetry, start a play, draw a picture, or she can get out her phone and use it as a diary, or a means of sharing ideas about growing up with a friend, or her mom or grandma. Or she can actually make selfie films with her phone which can be a great enhancer for self esteem and sharing one's creative talents.

The ebook version of Secrets is available at Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/Secrets-version-Barbara-Becker-Holstein-ebook/dp/B0C72PSQXP/ref=sr_1_7?crid=UX0SECIPYI7X&keywords=barbara+becker+holstein+secrets&qid=1696106215&sprefix=barbara+becker+holstein+secrets%2Caps%2C115&sr=8-7.

Dr. Holstein hopes to bring parents, teachers, librarians, grandparents and media together to accomplish one goal: Change in the lives of young people who suffer from anxiety and a growing sense of hopelessness and despair.

Dr. Holstein wraps Positive Psychology concepts in forms of media that young people find engaging, relatable and inspiring. These include:

Four bestselling, award-winning books (perfect for school libraries)

Four self-esteem workbooks for girls 8 and up

Award-winning films and coming of age selfie films

Podcasts

Dedicated websites

Stage plays

A library of articles

Ted-style talks

As a school psychologist and in her private practice, Dr. Holstein has worked with many children and parents, helping them to develop life skills in decision-making, recognition of their own talents, feel more courageous, and helping both kids and parents develop more successful inter-generational skills. Her last book, ‘Conflict and a Bit of Magic’, helps kids build self-esteem though reading the journal of a girl, identifying with the girl, and understanding they have more courage and resiliency than they thought they had. The book is based on the experiences of the already famous “girl” from 'The Truth, Diary of a Gutsy Tween' and 'Secrets, Diary of a Gutsy Teen', and achieved bestseller status in the multi-generational families category.

Dr. Holstein’s latest workbook for kids, ‘Secrets’ achieved bestseller status in the ‘Teen & Young Adult Nonfiction on Depression’ category.

Dr. Holstein's cutting-edge presentations, most recently based on the Covid-19 pandemic issues, can be found on both YouTube, Vimeo and on the Roku channel and Amazon Fire TV, titled as 'The Enchanted Self Presents'.

Dr. Holstein recently created The Selfie Showcase, a new project emerging from The Selfie Project, that allows young people to voice their opinions on subjects that matter to young people, including the pandemic.

The Selfie Showcase allows kids, teens, and young adults ages 13 to 18 to candidly express their concerns, worries, observations and possible solutions by creating selfie videos or films around important subjects using a smartphone. Dr. Holstein's mission is to help rectify, in several ways, some issues young people face by giving them a chance to engage with others in meaningful ways about the anxiety and stress they must grapple with constantly.

Body Shaming, Social Media, Bullying And The Drive To Be Best - Selfie Filmmaker And Positive Psychologist Barbara Becker Holstein Provides Powerful Resources And Solutions For Kids And Their Parents

Dr. Holstein, a psychologist/filmmaker and originator of a unique Selfie Film concept, writes award-winning books, plays and produces short films that offer solutions to problems that impact today's teens and tweens

For kids, the world has become a very dangerous place, more so today than in any other time in history. We have just experienced the anniversary of the Parkland school shooting. This was but one of many. A new book book by Lisa Damour, 'Under Pressure', details the "Epidemic of Stress and Anxiety in Girls." The media has produced hundreds of articles about the stresses experienced by young people. A recent story on the Washington Post website detailed some of the psychological effects school lockdowns create in school age children. Sadly school shootings, while horrific, are but the tip of the iceberg. We must add to that body shaming, social media, bullying, drug abuse and climate change. How did we get here? And what is the solution?

Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein, Positive Psychologist, author, award winning selfie filmmaker and creator of 'THE ENCHANTED SELF' has created a massive number of resources that kids, parents and grandparents can access to meet these modern-day challenges. Those resources include both selfie films and podcasts. These form the core of her message today, as these are two mediums that engage young people in powerful ways.

Dr. Holstein is currently developing 'The Selfie Project' to help kids share their feelings and thoughts in a meaningful way via Selfies that can reach millions. "The Selfie Project" provides a way for young people to go public on a number of subjects. Bullying is real, school violence is real, drama because of social media is real for kids. 'The Selfie Project' is giving voice to those subjects. A pilot TV series is in the development phase with the initial pilot making Film Festival Rounds. Teens will have a chance to discuss via their Selfies and in discussion with Dr. Holstein and other experts, various topics that affect their lives, from friend drama to fear of assault weapons. A recent outtake from one of her latest pieces dealing with a school lockdown can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/318541800. As of this moment, teens can share a link to their Selfies and Dr. Holstein will consider them for inclusion on her website, SelfieFilmmakers.com.

“As a Positive Psychologist, I realize that reaching our potential and sustaining the emotional energies necessary to live a joyful and productive life are not easy. I believe in giving people lots of healthy ingredients to choose from as they handle the problems of life: coming of age, being an adult, raising kids, working, being the sandwich generation, aging with spirit and wisdom, staying healthy, etc. ‘THE ENCHANTED SELF’is a positive psychology potpourri of products, films, Podcasts, books, a play, articles and ideas designed to help people of all ages make the best of their lives. These include The Truth, Diary of a Gutsy Tween and Secrets, Diary of a Gutsy Teen; THE ENCHANTED SELF, A Positive Therapy and Recipes for Enchantment, The Secret Ingredient is YOU!; ‘The Locket’, a one act play, for middle or high school production; Selfie Coming of Age Films, great for schools, libraries and homes;  A Selfie filmmakers contest; Podcasts where kids and parents are welcome to join me, Ted type short videos where I discuss psychological aspects of living, such as anxiety, helping kids achieve, etc.

Laura Lynn Ashworth, Author Of 'Letters To Loretta From The Radio Shack', Now Appearing On The Authors Show

Ashworth's work gives readers an enlightening glimpse into the minds of two WWII era teens. It is a captivating story that provides a penetrating and very personal look at how young people of the time viewed the world in which they lived. The book defies categorization as it details conversations regarding war, military service, politics, music, family, love and relationships

Author Laura Lynn Ashworth is now appearing on The Authors Show. In her interview she discusses her latest work, 'Letters To Loretta From The Radio Shack, A True WWII Teenage Love Story'. Ashworth's book lets readers experience World War II, both in battle and on the home front, through the eyes of adolescents in a way that Hollywood movies have never portrayed.

The book is a dramatic tale of two teens during the final climatic years of WWII, from letters exchanged from 1943-1945. The letters are between Sal, a young radio man deciphering Morse code out of the Navy’s radio shack on a minesweeper in the Pacific and Loretta, 15, who is from his neighborhood in Chicago. Information about the minesweeper, the USS Signet and its activities at sea while Sal is aboard are also logged and include real-time descriptions of D-Day and the Battle of Okinawa.

“When I ran across these letters," Ashworth stated, "I knew I had to share them with the public for their historical significance alone, but I was also taken aback about how frankly and comically these two teens discussed such serious issues of the time and what tremendous responsibilities they had to home and country at such a young age.  Their uncanny social insights, romantic love and humor in the most dire of times was fascinating to read.”

Historical significance aside, the book is one of a kind, in that it allows modern day readers to experience directly the day-to-day thoughts, feelings, desires and insecurities of two people involved in events that changed our world forever. Readers will also get a look at how communication took place before cellphones, social media and email. Sal and Loretta discuss war, military service, politics, music, family, love and relationships. The conversations are very real, very raw and often very funny.

Ten percent of all author proceeds benefit the VFW and USO.

Laura Lynn Ashworth is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at lauralynnashworth@gmail.com. Her interview is available at The Authors Show site and on her website. 'Letters To Loretta From The Radio Shack, A True WWII Teenage Love Story' is available in print and ebook formats at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other e-stores. More information is available at Ashworth's website at http://www.lauralynnashworth.com.

About Laura Lynn Ashworth:

Laura Lynn Ashworth is an award-winning copywriter and political cartoonist. While helping an elderly family member with veteran’s administration paperwork, she ran across the letters and instantly knew of their rarity, freshness and historical significance. Although she received three publishing contracts within two months of sending the letters to major publishers, Ashworth decided to publish them herself on the advice of best-selling authors. She currently lives and works in a northwest suburb of Chicago.

Dr. Joyce Teal Releases New Book, Young Sister It's Not Okay, A Guide To Appropriate Adolescent Behavior

Dr. Joyce Teal’s 'Young Sister, It's Not Okay' provides tips to encourage appropriate behavior in girls age 11 through 18

Getting off to a good start early is the key to success in life. However, many of today’s young girls have been born to teen and preteen mothers who were themselves young girls when they gave birth. Because this is so, by the time these girls reach age 11, they have perhaps not had the benefit of a mature outlook and expectations during their developmental process. Dr. Joyce Teal has just released 'Young Sister, It's Not Okay'. The book was written to provide a framework for dialogue and teaching. It is appropriate for youth groups and church groups and others.

"I decided to write this book at this time," stated Dr. Teal, "because there are lots of girls between the ages of 11 and 18, the age group for whom the book is targeted, who do not have the advantage of being reared by mature parents who are knowledgeable regarding the book's content. Many of these girls were born to teen, and some even to pre-teen mothers who are little more than children themselves. It is my desire and hope that many of these girls and their parents will find the book helpful."

“Young Sister, It’s Not Okay” discusses the following which are also the thirteen chapter titles:

* Inappropriate Dress
* Co-habitation Prior to Marriage
* Having Sex While Courting
* Unmarried and Having a Baby
* Dating a Married Man
* Disrespecting/Dishonoring Yourself and Others
* Female-to-Female Sexual Relationships
* Dating Mature, Experienced Men
* Drug and Alcohol Use
* Yielding to Negative Peer Pressure
* Rude, Disrespectful Speech
* Love is not Enough
* Body Art; Body Piercing

"It is my sincere hope," stated Dr. Teal, "that this book will inspire dialogue between parents and daughters. Additionally, it will validate parents' teachings regarding behaviors that their daughters should avoid."

Dr. Teal is available for interview and can be reached using the contact information below. All of her books are available at her website, www.untealthen.com. “Young Sister, It’s Not Okay” can also be ordered from Jokae’s Books in Dallas and from major bookstores across the country.

PROFILE

Joyce Willard Teal is a graduate of Prairie View A&M University. She is an award-winning retired teacher. She has taught school in Dallas for six years, but her career path has taken her through New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Virginia where she taught community college and reading/language arts to boys and girls in the public schools.

Mrs. Teal began writing professionally in 1993 and has had several award-winning poems published. Her first book, It’s O.K. To Be Different, was written for boys and girls between the ages of nine and fifteen, but has universal appeal and is being read by children as well as adults. It is now in its fourth printing.

The Point System, a book targeted for children in the middle grades and their parents, was released by Ozark Press in November, 1998. It was illustrated by children in the author’s reading classes at Florence Middle School in Dallas, TX.

Sister, Its Not Okay was Dr. Teal’s first adult, non-fiction title. Like her other two books, it was inspired by her interactions with children and their parents as she has traveled and taught throughout this country.

The Yield, another adult, nonfiction, was released in December, 1999. It is about black couples, their failed or failing relationships, and the impact this has on the children who result from these relationships.

MotorVation, a book of original poems and other writings released in November 2002, was written in response to hundreds of requests for the poems the author has shared as she has spoken to audiences throughout the country.

Don’t Sweat It Kid is Volume 1 of a the trilogy. The three volumes contain 100 topics relevant to the lives of adolescents. Volume 1 contains topics 1-33; Volume 2 contains topics 34-65; Volume 3 contains topics 66-100. Becoming Alice: Award Winning Author And Speaker Alice Rene To Appear On Authors Show Radio Through November 26, 2009

Author Alice Rene will discuss her early childhood in Vienna during WWII. Her book vividly details her Jewish family’s escape from persecution, and their life as refugees in Portland, Oregon. She writes about the cultural clash they experienced and her own identity crisis. Compounded by the turmoil of a troubled family, Becoming Alice showcases, with both pathos and humor, her triumph over adversity.

Alice Rene, author of Becoming Alice, will be appearing on The Authors Show radio through November 26, 2009.

As a six-year-old, a young girl named Ilse watched Nazi soldiers march down her street in Vienna, Austria. It was the beginning of an odyssey that would take her to Riga, Latvia, and end in Portland, Oregon. Becoming Alice chronicles Rene’s Jewish family's harrowing escape and their struggle as immigrants to fit into the American landscape. The added problems of growing up within a troubled family clouded her childhood and adolescence. Hoping to fit in with her classmates, Ilse changed her name to Alice, but it was not until she moved into a boarding house in Berkeley, surrounded by girls from a patchwork of cultures, that she made peace with her true identity.

“I wrote this book after my grandson chose the Holocaust as his subject for a class assignment and interviewed me as part of his paper,” said Ms. Rene. “That event triggered a thought in my mind that perhaps I should write this story down so that it would not be lost with the passage of time. I took some writing classes and joined a writing group in which we read our work. The first draft was received so enthusiastically by this group that I set about having it edited, and eventually published. I am pleased that it has done so well in the marketplace.”

Becoming Alice has placed and has won numerous industry awards, the most recent being chosen Winner in the Hollywood Book Festival 2009 Contest, Teenage Category. It was a finalist in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards for 2008 in the Autobiography/Memoir Category; it was also a finalist in The Forward Magazine Book of the Year Award 2008 in the Autobiography/Memoir Category. The book took First Place in the Young Adult category in the 2007 Reader Views Awards Program in 2007 and was a semi-finalist in the Autobiography/Memoir category of the same year.

An excerpt from the book entitled the Camel Hair Coat was a finalist in the Southern California Genealogical Society Short Story Contest in 2007. Cashmere, another excerpt, received Honorable Mention in Byline Magazines 2008 Short Story Contest. The book was also chosen as a Publisher’s Choice Book by iUniverse in April 2007 and was chosen as a Star Book by iUniverse in March of 2008.

“I am extremely grateful for all the awards Becoming Alice has garnered so far,” stated Ms. Rene, “and for the many positive reviews I have received.”

Ms. Rene is available speaking engagements and interviews. She can be contacted through her website, www.alicerene.com or using the information below. Becoming Alice is available for purchase online at www.amazon.com , www.barnesandnoble.com, and www.iUniverse.com , and from your local Barnes and Noble Bookstore.

Profile:

Alice Rene grew up in Portland, Oregon and attended Reed College before moving to California where she received a Master’s degree in Social Welfare from the University of California at Berkeley. She worked as a Medical Caseworker at UC Hospital in San Francisco, teaching the house staff the importance of social and emotional issues in understanding and treating patients.

While raising three children, Alice worked as a travel consultant with a special interest in packaging and escorting groups to exotic foreign destinations. These trips were documented on film and shown at schools, clubs, and private gathering for entertainment and educational purposes.

She began writing seriously after a grandson interviewed her for a high school history assignment. She realized then that her story might be of interest to a wider audience. After studying the art and craft of writing for several years, she wrote her memoir, Becoming Alice. She now lives in southern California with her husband and Golden Retriever.
