Award-Winning Bestselling Author Donna Fletcher Crow Announces 23 New Audiobooks, Including Jane Austen Titles, Now Available At Amazon

Crow writes meticulously researched, entertaining novels of romance, history, adventure and mystery in an engaging you-are-there style that allows readers to live the history. Reviewers have compared her work with PD James, Dan Brown and Barbara Pym.

For some of us, reading can become an all-consuming pastime. But it can be a challenge to find the time to read as many books as we would like. Enter the audiobook, which allows us to “listen” to a book while working, driving, or doing other things that don't require our undivided attention and concentration. In a recent blog post titled "My Experience with the Audiobook Revolution," bestselling author Donna Fletcher presented the fascinating history of audiobooks and the reasons why a low-tech, slow-adapter finally took the plunge.

"For many years," Crow wrote, "I have been asked frequently, 'Are your books available in audio?' My answer was sketchy, I have had several titles recorded for the blind—which pleases me greatly—and in 2013 my publisher produced audiobooks of what were then the first two titles in my Elizabeth and Richard series. That was it.

"Until a few months ago when Amazon began offering voice-generated audiobooks. Being a low-tech, slow-adapter, I hesitated. But in January I took the plunge with 'Going There,’ Tales from the Riviera and Beyond. I was amazed. Truly, three clicks did the job. I selected a lovely British female voice, set the price near the minimum allowed, and clicked publish. I now have 23 audiobooks (about half of my published titles) available for readers who want the listening experience."

Crow’s books now available in audiobook version include selections from her mystery, history and romance series and 2 short story collections beginning with “Going There,” Tales from the Riviera and Beyond 7 short stories of various genres set within the memoir of a memorable travel experience.

The complete Elizabeth and Richard Literary Suspense series is available in audio. In “A Jane Austen Encounter” a second honeymoon visit to Jane Austen’s homes turns deadly; and “A Most Singular Venture” finds a murderer cloaked in the gentility of Jane Austen’s London. Other literary encounters are Rudyard Kipling in “The Flame Ignites,” Dorothy L Sayers in “The Shadow of Reality,” and William Shakespeare in “A Midsummer Eve’s Nightmare.”Titles available from The Monastery Murders are: “A Very Private Grave” (an itinerary of terror across a holy terrain during Lent), “A Darkly Hidden Truth” (ancient puzzles and modern murder at Easter), “A Newly Crimsoned Reliquary” (murder lurks in the shadows of Oxford’s hallowed shrines at Halloween), and “An All-Consuming Fire” (a Christmas wedding in a monastery—if the bride can escape the murderer lurking on the Yorkshire moors).

The Lord Danvers Investigates Victorian true-crime series offers “A Most Inconvenient Death” which involve Danvers in the brutal Stanfield Hall murders, and “A Lethal Spectre,” setting a glittering London season against the horrors of an Indian mutiny.

From the Where There is Love series we have “Where Love Triumphs,” the story of a lame Cambridge scholar who learns life-changing lessons about love, and “Where Love Shines” a lieutenant blinded in the Charge of the Light Brigade encounters love from one of Flornce Nightengale’s nurses.

The Celtic Cross Series brings Scottish and Irish history alive through historic people: “The Refiner of the Realm” (Queen Margaret), “The Planting of Ulster” (Lady Montgomery), “The Strife of Ascendancy” (King Billy), “The Hammering of the Inhabitancy” (Oliver Cromwell), “The Shaping of the Union” (Wolfe Tone), and “The Dawning of Peace” (Lady Gregory).

Family saga trilogy The Daughters of Courage recounts Idaho’s history in 3 volumes: “Kathryn” (Idaho pioneers), “Elizabeth” (the Great Depression and World War II), and “Stephanie” (the turbulent days of the 1970s).

“A Lighted Lamp,” Scenes of Christmas Through Time, offers short stories ranging from Scotland a thousand years ago through Regency festivities and American pioneers, to modern England.

Award Winning Author Donna Fletcher Crow Discusses Sir Frances Drake Prayer, Announces New Historical Fiction Book And Upcoming Jane Austen Video

Crow writes meticulously researched, entertaining novels of romance, history, adventure and mystery in an engaging you-are-there style that allows readers to live the history. Reviewers have compared her work with PD James, Dan Brown and Barbara Pym.

In her most recent video "Jane Austen From Paradise To Portsmouth" Donna Fletcher Crow discussed the central role faith played in the lives of Jane Austen's naval brothers. This is also a paramount point in a blog available at her website focused on the Naval Prayer, traditionally attributed to Sir Frances Drake. The post was inspired by a talk she attended, given by Gordon Laco entitled "Life at Sea in the Royal Navy in Jane Austen's Time." Laco was Technical and historical advisor for the movie “Master and Commander” as well as for more than 60 other projects for movies and the BBC.

Crow said in a recent interview, “I was fascinated to learn of the great legacy of the Naval Prayer, attributed by strong tradition to Sir Francis Drake, and the historic role it played in the Royal Navy and later in the Royal Canadian Navy. It was particularly captivating when Gordon Laco took off his hat and pulled out the folded prayer he always wore there when serving as Captain aboard an historic vessel in the Royal Canadian Navy.

“The prayer was read every Sunday when Jane Austen’s two brothers, who both rose to the rank of Admiral, served in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic wars. My research uncovered 2 other prayers, of somewhat shaky provenance, attributed to Drake. The Naval Prayer shared by Laco, however, is well known and very well respected, and is attributed to Drake in Navy history. I found the prayer and the tradition around it very moving and am delighted for this opportunity to make it known to a wider audience.”

Donna's new video series now has a second installment in production. In the new video, "Jane Austen From Paradise to Lyme Regis," Crow, (in the persona of Jane Austen), gives viewers a guided tour of Jane’s favorite seaside resort—Lyme (at that time not distinguished with the Regis title). “Jane” will read from letters she wrote to her sister Cassandra, describing a “delightful” time bathing and the assembly ball she attended, as well as her problems with the servants. She will read from her novel ‘Persuasion’, as she takes viewers to the Cobb, Captain Harville’s cottage, and other sites in her last completed novel before she went to Paradise.

Crow also announced a new edition of 'The Fields of Bannockburn’, Book One, The Celtic Cross Epics. This will be the first print edition in over a quarter of a century and will appear as an ebook for the first time. The book was chosen as Best Historical Novel 1996 by the American Federation of Press Women.

In 'The Fields of Bannockburn', three modern young people listen as the Scottish storyteller spins his tales of adventure, romance, and intrigue. While candles flicker and a Celtic harp sings its accompaniment, the question grips them: Can they find the answer to Scotland’s oldest secret?

The odyssey to uncover the mystery behind the Stone of Scone begins on the beautiful island of Iona where Saint Columba battles the druids to bring Christianity to the heathen Scots; the questions mount in ancient Caledonia while Kenneth MacAlpin battles Viking marauders and forges a new nation. Clues multiply on the storm-battered shores of the Firth of Forth, where the Saxon princess Margaret seeks refuge and then stays to initiate civility and renew faith. Finally, William Wallace lights the fires of freedom that Robert the Bruce finishes on the fields of Bannockburn.

Donna Fletcher Crow is the author of 50 books, mostly novels of British history. She has taken a number of high-level industry awards for her work. A short story on her blog entitled “A Nostalgic Fourth of July” is based on a scene from ‘Kathryn: Days of Loss and Hope'.

Where There is Love is a 6-book series of the enduring legacy of love and faith all based on historic people and events. The titles are: ‘Where Love Begins’, ‘Where Love Illumines’, ‘Where Love Triumphs’, ‘Where Love Restores’, ‘Where Love Shines’, and ‘Where Love Calls’.

Jane Austen Video Series To Be Produced By Award Winning Author Donna Fletcher Crow, Novelist Of British History

Crow writes meticulously researched, entertaining novels of romance, history, adventure and mystery in an engaging you-are-there style that allows readers to live the history. Reviewers have compared her work with PD James, Dan Brown and Barbara Pym.

Award winning author Donna Fletcher Crow has announced a new Jane Austen video series. Titled "Jane Austen: From Paradise to ...", the series will take viewers to various locations associated with Jane Austen, her books and the Austen family. Crow recently posted the first installment in the blog section of her website at https://donnafletchercrow.com/p/430/New-Venture-lunched-Jane-Austen-from-Paradise-to-Videos. As Donna stated in her blog post:

"When closures continued this year, I agreed to give the talk originally scheduled for the 2020 Portsmouth BookFest as a Zoom event for 2021. As the idea developed, I decided to let Jane speak for herself and give the whole talk in her persona.

"On the day, the event was gratifyingly successful, but the hoped-for recording was not. This led to my producing the entire talk as a video on my own.

"And thereby was born a new career avenue. I enjoyed the experience so much I have decided to produce a series of videos on “Jane Austen: From Paradise to...”

In the first video, Jane talks about scenes that were important to her family such as the Royal Naval Academy her brothers attended, and Spithead where her brothers' boats awaited their orders to sail and where Fanny's brother William in Mansfield Park was to report.

Jane shares from her letters, such as when she teases Cassandra about the arrival of Czar Alexander I of Russia at Portsmouth for a Naval review. She reads scenes from Mansfield Park including Fanny Price and Henry Crawford's encounter with Mr. Price on the High Street and their subsequent visit to the Dockyard.

Crow said in a recent interview: “I am so excited about this new venture. I found that doing the research and writing the script from Jane’s viewpoint gave me a whole new outlook on the material. I no longer felt like a 21st century visitor looking back, but more as if I were really experiencing the events in the Regency.

“And there are so many places to visit through Jane Austen’s eyes: All the homes she lived in; her favorite seashore spas, starting with Lyme Regis; and countless London sites. My hope is that scores of Austen fans will find new inspiration in watching my videos.”

Donna Fletcher Crow is the author of 50 books, mostly novels of British history. She has taken a number of high-level industry awards for her work. Donna Fletcher Crow, Award Winning Author Of British History, To Appear At Portsmouth Bookfest As Jane Austen On March 1, 2021

The Portsmouth Bookfest, now in its 10th year, will take place February 15 through March 7, 2021.

Award winning author Donna Fletcher Crow will be appearing at the 2021 Portsmouth Bookfest on March 1, 2021 as one of her most beloved writers, Jane Austen. As Austen, she will conduct a walking tour (via Zoom) of Portsmouth, showing sites she remembers and pictures of scenes that have long since disappeared.

Jane Austen has strong ties to Portsmouth. Austen lived in nearby Southampton between 1806 and 1809. Austen set a major scene in her novel 'Mansfield Park' in what is now Old Portsmouth. Her brothers Francis and Charles attended the royal Naval Academy in Portsmouth, and Francis, who rose to be Admiral of the Fleet, made his home in Portsmouth.

Portsmouth has a strong literary heritage. Besides Jane Austen, the town has links to Charles Dickens, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and H G Wells. Bookfest continues that heritage by annually presenting top authors from Britain and abroad at their 3-week long event.

In 2019, Donna participated as a panelist in Mysteryfest. Mysteryfest is a one day event, dedicated to the craft of mystery writing, that is presented as part of the bookfest and co-sponsored by the Mystery People group to which Crow belongs. Other panel members included Leigh Russell, Sally Spedding, Diana Bretherick and Carol Westron.

Crow said, “I am very excited to be presenting at Bookfest via Zoom this year, even though I’ll admit I’d rather do it in person.

“My attendance at Bookfest and Mysteryfest has a chequered record, at best. In 2018 I had hoped to attend the first ever Mysteryfest. I was in England at the time, but the 'Beast from the East' arctic storm blew in and forced cancellation of the event. Last year I was scheduled to present 'An Idaho Cowgirl in Austenland' where I would talk about becoming an Anglophile through literature. The Coronavirus—which was just ramping up at that time—forced us to scrub all of our travel plans.

“So this year, I am thankful for the technology that will allow both Jane Austen and myself to attend—and our friends around the world will be able to join us. More details and samples of the places Jane will be taking us are available on my website: https://donnafletchercrow.com/p/426/Jane-Austen-to-Appear-at-Portsmouth-Bookfest

It is important that attendees register early. More information can be found at the Portsmouth City Council site at https://portsmouth.spydus.co.uk/cgi-bin/spydus.exe/FULL/WPAC/EVSESENQ/4354931/15162076,17.

Christmas Read With Me Recommendations From Award Winning Author Donna Fletcher Crow

Crow writes meticulously researched, entertaining novels of romance, history, adventure and mystery in an engaging you-are-there style that allows readers to live the history. Reviewers have compared her work with PD James, Dan Brown and Barbara Pym.

A Google search on “best books for Christmas” returns just over 3.6 million listings. There is a lot of interest in Christmas books, and for good reason. Christmas and books just seem to go together somehow. Giving and receiving books as Christmas gifts is a universal Western tradition, as no movie, television show, radio drama or podcast could ever provide the immersive getaway experience that a good Christmas book can provide.

Unlike years gone by, finding the time to kick back, relax and read a Christmas book might be difficult in our modern day rush-rush-rush of Holiday preparation, shopping, Christmas gatherings and office parties. This year is different however, as this might be the only year in recent memory in which we actually have time to enjoy a leisurely read – one that can take us away from pandemics, travel restrictions, political upheavals, and all the rest. Award winning author Donna Fletcher Crow has a personal list of favorite Christmas books. She recently made some recommendations for Christmas reading

“For all of my adult life I have had a cherished fantasy. I see myself, with all my preparations done, lying on the sofa in front of the Christmas tree reading a Christmas novel. No matter that it never happens, I continue to hold to the shining image.

“2020 just might be the year. In spite of all the frustrations—and for some people real tragedies—of Covid-19, all the enforced closures and restrictions have given many of us more time. Perhaps enough time, even, to read a Christmas novel in front of a decorated tree.

“With that happy thought in mind—and we do need happy thoughts these days—I’m delighted to recommend some of my favorite seasonal reads.

“My annual daydream began way back in 1972 when Marjorie Holmes published “Two From Galilee.” This charming re-telling of the traditional Christmas story is the first of a trilogy by Holmes and has become something of a classic.

“Anne Perry is one of my perennially favorite authors. Her cozy Victorian mystery novels always deliver well-developed characters and well-researched history. Perry began in 2004 with “A Christmas Journey,” a seasonal novella featuring Vespasia Cumming-Gould from the Thomas Pitt series. This year Perry offers her 18th holiday novella, “A Christmas Resolution,” featuring Inspector Monk's right-hand man and his new wife. In each one, she draws from her rich stock of minor characters, featuring them in new locations and situations outside her regular series.

"Beginning in 2003 with “A Christmas Journey” Perry wrote a Christmas novella every year for 9 years, ending with “A Christmas Homecoming” in 2011. In each one, she draws from her rich stock of minor characters to feature them in new locations and situations outside her regular series.

“Another Victorian delight is Liz Curtis Higgs’ Christmas novella “A Wreath of Snow.” On Christmas Eve in Scotland, a young schoolteacher’s plans are frustrated and her life changed when her train journey home is upset by heavy snows and a mysterious stranger. My interview with Higgs about the background of the book is available on my blog.

“This year I have the fun of being able to offer a new book of my own for your Christmas reading list. “A Lighted Lamp, Scenes of Christmas Through Time” is a collection of stories ranging from Scotland a thousand years ago to modern England (with visits to the American prairie in between) as people through the ages find light and hope in the joy of the season.

“For a more thorough exploration of the season, in an unusual setting, “An All-Consuming Fire,” book 5 in my Monastery Murders, features a Christmas wedding in a monastery—if the bride can escape the murderer stalking the Yorkshire moors.”

Covid-19 And Christmas 2020 – During The Holidays Find Inspiration, Healing And Promise For The Future With A New Christmas Book By Award Winning Author Donna Fletcher Crow

Crow writes meticulously researched, entertaining novels of romance, history, adventure and mystery in an engaging you-are-there style that allows readers to live the history. Reviewers have compared her work with PD James, Dan Brown and Barbara Pym.

Award winning author Donna Fletcher Crow, has announced the release of a new Christmas book just in time for the 2020 Holiday Season. 'A Lighted Lamp,' Scenes of Christmas Through Time, allows readers to experience Christmases ranging from Scotland a thousand years ago to modern England, with visits to the American west in between, as people through the ages find strength and promise for the future in the season. Celebrate in locations as diverse as a Scottish court, a Regency country house, a pioneer shack, and a contemporary English monastery. Customs have changed, struggles have varied, but one constant has remained—Christmas has never failed to bring hope and joy.

Crow explained her motivation for writing this book: “All around me I am hearing people express their worries about Christmas this year. How can we celebrate in the midst of a pandemic, especially where many areas are reaching new spikes? How can it be a season of joy when I am cut off from my family by travel restrictions? What will Christmas be like when experts say even singing carols presents a danger?

“I wanted to do something to shed light in the darkness, to bring a ray of hope amidst fear. In looking back over my 50-some published books, I realized how all my characters had faced situations, often as dire as our own. Each one of them struggled with the problems and challenges of their day. Yet, in all times and places, Christmas has never failed to bring its special gift of joy and healing to their unique conflicts.

"Using events from my novels, I have shaped a collection of short stories to share these experiences with my readers, desiring that they will find inspiration for their own situations this year as we face our own dilemmas of how to observe the up-coming festive season in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, economic loss, and for many, even personal grief.

"It is my hope that readers will delight as: Queen Margaret reforms manners at the Scottish court with a deft touch of gift-giving; young Bors faces family hostilities when he is sent home after the great fire that destroyed Glastonbury Abbey; Georgiana Somerset grapples with conflicting emotions amidst a whirl of Regency merrymaking at Badminton House; Kathryn discovers renewed strength to carry on in a homestead shack in the Idaho desert; her daughter Elizabeth manages to find reasons to celebrate in the depths of the Great Depression; as does her daughter in the midst of the turbulence of the 1970s; and finally, an American woman finds the light of hope in a contemporary monastery in England as she works with troubled teens.

"It’s no accident that, at least in the western hemisphere, Christmas comes at the darkest, coldest time of the year. From earliest days people have yearned for peace, for beauty, for warmth, and this longing has expressed itself through the ages in our annual high festival of light."

Read With Me - Award Winning Author Of Romance, History And Adventure Mystery Donna Fletcher Crow Offers Top Picks For Fall Reading

Crow writes meticulously researched, entertaining novels of romance, history, adventure and mystery in an engaging you-are-there style that allows readers to live the history. Reviewers have compared her work to PD James, Dan Brown and Barbara Pym. Her fall picks include Jane Austen and Laurie Lee

Fall is the time of year when many of us begin to wind down from all those vacation and summer fun activities. Not so this year. The pandemic has put a crimp in our lifestyles that will most likely continue throughout the season. While there are still many things we cannot do, there is one thing we can do - read. Reading can serve as a momentary escape, as an exhilarating adventure, a comfort or perhaps just a temporary reprieve from the stress of dealing with the disruption in our lives. Award winning author Donna Fletcher Crow recently offered some suggestions for Autumn reading:

"Autumn is my favorite time of the year—I love the crisp days, the colorful foliage; I love taking walks in crunchy leaves, savoring that special tang to the autumn air; I love celebrating Harvest Festival at church, and handing out candy to our neighborhood spooks for Halloween.

"But not this year. Apart from harvest and Halloween parties being locked down due to the Coronavirus, in our area devastating wildfires have turned our sky brown, making eyes water and noses run. Taking long walks—crunchy leaves or not—has become a health hazard. And, it seems we have the best of it. In surrounding states large areas, including people’s homes, are consumed in flames, while other parts of the nation are ripped by hurricanes.

"If, like myself, you are missing your normal fall pleasures and escapes, I invite you to read with me as I return to some old favorites that evoke autumns of happier times.

Top of my list is always Jane Austen—in this case, 'Persuasion', Austen’s last and “most autumnal” novel. Here, Anne Eliot undertakes an autumn stroll: '[P]leasure in the walk must arise from the exercise and the day, from the view of the last smiles of the year upon the tawny leaves, and withered hedges, and from repeating to herself some few of the thousand poetical descriptions extant of autumn, that season of peculiar and inexhaustible influence on the mind of taste and tenderness, that season which had drawn from every poet, worthy of being read, some attempt at description, or some lines of feeling.'

"Another long-time favorite is Laurie Lee’s 'Cider With Rosie'. Although it begins in June, we are given a wonderful account of that autumn when the young Lee arrives 'at school just three feet tall and fatly wrapped in scarves' by his sisters. A wonderful evocation of by-gone days.

"My delight in autumn is exemplified in my own novels as well. The nostalgic 'The Flame Ignites' is set in October of 1984 when the New England hillsides are ablaze with redgold autumn and reflects my love of having lived in New England. My heroine and her cousin go for a rambling drive to buy pumpkins at a roadside stand, then 'home with golden afternoon sun filtering through the autumn foliage and scarlet and orange leaves drifting down on them.'

"In the opening of my Victorian true crime novel 'A Most Inconvenient Death', Lord Danvers takes to the sky in his aerostat and arrives at the coming of age party for his old friend’s son, skimming 'barely above the autumn-bright trees.'

“The Arthurian epic ‘Glastonbury’ depicts Celtic life in Roman Britain during fall-of-the-leaf time: 'The evening shadows lengthened, and the golden glow of an autumn sunset spread over the island... An evening thrush sang, and the harpsong answered it. The flames danced, and the melody swayed with them. Autumn leaves rustled in the trees, and harp notes chased them.'

"In my late Regency novel 'Where Love Restores' the characters experience autumn in Cambridge: 'The fallen leaves were damp from autumn rains, and a thin mist clung to the ground. Tree branches over their heads took on a delicate beauty as the gray sky gave way to the spreading pink glow of dawn. It would be a fine day... For some moments they stood listening to the tiny rustles and scurries among the leaves and branches—small animals hurrying to gather their autumn food stores before winter.' Later they are drawn into helping villagers with the harvest and join in the traditional feasting.

“Perhaps it’s not quite the same as taking my own walk in an autumn-hued woods, but the best way I know to experience the season virtually. Do join me.”

Award Winning Author Donna Fletcher Crow Announces New Adventure Murder Mystery, Against All Fierce Hostility, Set In Canada

The new murder mystery is book 6 in the Monastery Murders series. Reviewers have compared her work to PD James, Dan Brown and Barbara Pym.

Award winning author Donna Fletcher Crow has announced the release of book 6 in the Monastery Murders series, Against All Fierce Hostility.

The Monastery Murders moves to Canada when Antony is invited to lecture on the British saints who inspired the founding of Toronto and Felicity couriers an ancient manuscript connected with Saint Patrick to monasteries in Montreal and Vancouver. A spectacular train journey across the breadth of the continent carries them even further away from the murder Felicity witnessed in England. Or does it?

Reviewer have given Crow’s mysteries high praise, with comparisons to PD James, Dan Brown and Barbara Pym:

- “In Against All Fierce Hostility, Donna Fletcher Crow continues her signature brand of blending church history with the twists and turns of a cozy mystery as Antony and Felicity journey across Canada, dogged by shadowy people and circumstances. Crow sprinkles the clues and red herrings throughout the story so ably that I couldn’t figure out the villain until the shocking ending.

“The marvelous details of Antony and Felicity’s trip across Canada give a glimpse into the country’s expansive geography and its youth as a country. Crow brings the Canadian setting to life–glaciers, mountains, northern lights, prairies filled with grain from horizon to horizon, lakes by the thousands–it’s a canvas that provides the perfect expanse to who’s after the original document from St. Patrick’s lifetime. And it provides the perfect crime scene for the astounding ending. Lovers of PD James will enjoy this new twist on The Monastery Murders.” - Laurie Wood, Author of the Heroes of the Tundra Series

- “In A Darkly Hidden Truth, Donna Fletcher Crow creates a world in which the events of past centuries echo down present-day hallways—I came away from the book feeling as though I’d been someplace both ancient and new. Donna Fletcher Crow gives us, in three extremely persuasive dimensions, the world that Dan Brown merely sketches.” - Timothy Hallinan, The Queen of Patpong, Edgar nominated Best Novel

- “With A Darkly Hidden Truth Crow establishes herself as the leading practitioner of modern mystery entwined with historical fiction. The historical sections are much superior to The Da Vinci Code because she doesn’t merely recite the facts; she makes the events come alive by telling them through the eyes of participants. The contemporary story is skillfully character-driven, suspended between the deliberate and reflective life of religious orders in the UK and Felicity’s ‘Damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead’ American impetuousness.

“Her descriptions of the English characters read like an updated and edgy version of Barbara Pym. A Darkly Hidden Truth weaves ancient puzzles and modern murder with a savvy but sometimes unwary protagonist into a seamless story. You won’t need a bookmark—you’ll read it in a single sitting despite other plans.” - Mike Orenduff, 2011 Lefty Award Winner, The Pot Thief Who Studied Einstein

Crow says, “For many people one of the most disruptive aspects of the Covid-19 pandemic has been the forced cancellation of travel for business, family and recreation. My husband and I have had to cancel four much-anticipated international trips and numerous ones to visit family in the States. We find ourselves filling that void in our lives with armchair travel through such programs as “Rick Steves’ Europe” and “Mighty Trains,” as well as reading books set in distant locations. I am excited to be able to offer readers who are feeling home-bound a new book to take them on a vicarious adventure.”

About the Canadian background of her new book Against All Fierce Hostility, Crow says, “We are so fortunate that we took the trip that served as research for my book last year. Riding the luxurious Canadian across the continent had been at the top of my bucket list for years. As soon as my husband told me he had managed to secure reservations for the long-dreamed-of adventure, I knew that had to be the setting for my next book.

“It was truly the trip of a lifetime—the service exquisite and the scenery stunning. And it was great fun re-living it all through the eyes of my characters—although fortunately, we didn’t have to cope with the presence of possible murderers like Felicity and Antony do.”

Donna Fletcher Crow is the author of 50 books, mostly novels of British history. She has taken a number of high-level industry awards for her work. 'Glastonbury' is her best-known book, which received the prestigious First Place, Historical Novel, award from the National Federation of Press Women. Pandemic, Economic Instability, Civil Unrest, Protests And Riots - Award Winning Author Donna Fletcher Crow's Daughters Of Courage Family Saga Series Mirrors Modern Day Events In USA

Crow writes meticulously researched, entertaining novels of romance, history and mystery in an engaging you-are-there style that allows readers to live the history.

Multi-award winning author Donna Fletcher Crow is not a psychic nor can she see into the future. Yet the titles in her Daughters of Courage Family Saga Series, available since 2016, seem to mirror current events. A devastating pandemic, economic depression, protests and riots all figure prominently in the stories presented in her highly acclaimed historical series. Within the pages of these books, drawn from her own family history, readers will certainly find events with which they can identify. They will also find inspiration, courage and faith. Above all, Crow's compelling stories offer all of us reasons to feel optimistic and confident that times will certainly change for the better.

Speaking of the timeliness of her current new releases, Crow said:

“‘How do you do it?’ the editor for my Daughters of Courage family saga asked. She was amazed that book 1 ‘Kathryn’ dealt with a small community that had been entirely wiped out by disease in its early days but came back to flourish; book 2 ‘Elizabeth’ is about survival and triumph in economic depression; and book 3 ‘Stephanie’ shows my characters achieving concord during a time of civil unrest, protest and riots.

“‘That’s the thing about writing history,’ I replied. I never attempt to write to current events, I simply try to tell each story as accurately as I can in its own context. I let events speak for themselves. It is amazing, though, how often through the years my historical novels—many of them set hundreds of years ago—reflect events we are dealing with today in our own very modern society.

“I believe this is one of the values of history: it shows us what people before us have gone through, how they survived, and demonstrates that we, too will be able to overcome our challenges.”

1970s America, protest, riots, war, yet Stephanie is determined to make a difference from within the system. When her father Eliot Hamilton becomes ill and she is thrust into the Idaho State Legislature to fill his seat she is determined to make her mark with a housing subsidy bill—a stance that puts her into direct conflict with Attorney General Carlton Sperlin, grandson of the man who wanted to marry her beloved grandmother Kathryn. But Stephanie, also like her grandmother, is engaged to a charming Scotsman—so at least her heart is safe from the strategies of her political opponent. Or is it?

Donna Fletcher Crow is the author of 50 books, mostly novels of British history. She has taken a number of high-level industry awards for her work. 'Glastonbury' is her best-known book, which received the prestigious First Place, Historical Novel, award from the National Federation of Press Women. Read With Me - Author Donna Fletcher Crow Announces New Release Of Elizabeth, Days Of Loss And Hope, With Parallels To Today's Headlines Regarding The Economy

Crow writes meticulously researched, entertaining novels of romance, history and mystery in an engaging you-are-there style that allows readers to live the history.

Pandemics and plagues have been with us for a very long time, as have hard economic times. While movies and television serve as a means of escape for many of us today, nothing beats an engaging novel as a vehicle to transport us to another place and time. If that novel ties in with something to which we can strongly relate, all the better. Award winning author Donna Fletcher Crow's 'Elizabeth, Days of Loss and Hope', a recently released new edition available online, is such a book. Donna recently wrote an article on literary perspectives on pandemics, plagues and hard times:

"Now, thankfully, the pandemic restrictions are easing for many of us," Crow stated. "Good news, yes, but it is forcing us to look at the economic concerns of what it means for millions of people around the world to be out of work, businesses closed, and supply lines interrupted. The possibility of a depression looms.

"For this, I again turn to literature. I recently met with a book club in another state—over Zoom, of course. I asked their members what they were reading and learned many were reading novels set during the Great Depression. 'It is comforting to see how others have handled things,' one lady said. 'Seeing others endure can help us endure,' another said. 'Seeing others make the most of a terrible situation can help us find courage to face our own challenges,' a gentleman offered.

"My mother often quoted the old saying, 'Misery loves company.' I’ve never been very comforted by the idea that others were suffering with me; I’m far more of a Pollyanna who wants everyone to be happy. But the value of the concept of community can’t be over-stated. We can all take great comfort from the fact that we are in this together—and we will come through it together. As we always have.

"Simply typing 'hard times' into an Amazon search will turn up an almost endless list of non-fiction books on that topic, including Studs Terkel’s classic 'Hard Times'. In the fiction department, it would be hard to beat John Steinbeck’s Pulitzer-prize-winning epic 'The Grapes of Wrath'.

"The newly released edition of 'Elizabeth, Days of Loss and Hope', book 2 in my Daughters of Courage family saga, portrays just such situations in farming communities in southwestern Idaho. Based on historic events, many from my own family, we see, time and again, people banding together to help each other through dire circumstances."

Elizabeth has one goal in life—to go to college and become a teacher. But it is 1929 in Kuna, Idaho, and the small family farm doesn’t produce enough to send both Elizabeth and her twin brother to college. Just when it seems Elizabeth’s dreams might come true the stock market crashes and the devastating Great Depression engulfs the nation. Overnight Elizabeth’s anxiety about tuition payments is superseded by fear that her parents will lose the farm. Is this one disaster that even Elizabeth’s faith in hard work and God can’t overcome?

Donna Fletcher Crow is the author of 50 books, mostly novels of British history. She has taken a number of high-level industry awards for her work. 'Glastonbury' is her best-known book, which received the prestigious First Place, Historical Novel, award from the National Federation of Press Women. Readers and reviewers have raved about 'Glastonbury', calling it "The best of its kind," "richly fascinating," "beautifully researched," "gloriously evocative," and "panoramic." One Amazon reader said, "WHAT a work! Every reader can be enveloped in the sheer scope and quality, every historian be constantly nodding at the precise detail and accuracy, and every Christian can rejoice in the fullness of scripture. For me it is simply beyond descriptive praise. I would urge all who value truth to treat themselves to a feast."

The Daughters of Courage, 'Kathryn', 'Elizabeth' and 'Stephanie' is a pioneer family saga based on the stories of Crow's own family and other Idaho pioneers in the Kuna, Nampa and Boise area. A short story on her blog entitled “A Nostalgic Fourth of July” is based on a scene from ‘Kathryn: Days of Loss and Hope'.

The Monastery Murders Series features atmospheric contemporary crimes with their roots buried deep in the middle ages. Books in the series include 'A Very Private Grave', 'A Darkly Hidden Truth', 'An Unholy Communion', 'A Newly Crimsoned Reliquary' and 'An All-Consuming Fire' and the upcoming 'Against All Fierce Hostility.'

The Elizabeth & Richard Mysteries is a literary suspense series using literary figures as background: Rudyard Kipling in 'The Flame Ignites', Dorothy L Sayers in 'The Shadow of Reality', Shakespeare in 'A Midsummer Eve's Nightmare', and Jane Austen in both 'A Jane Austen Encounter' and 'A Most Singular Venture'. Watch for 'A Prodigious Sum of Corpses: Seeking Sanditon at Jane Austen’s Seashore', which will take readers to all of Austen’s favorite seashore resorts. Escape From The Isolation Caused By The Covid-19 Virus - Read With Me Suggests Award Winning Author Donna Fletcher Crow

Crow writes meticulously researched, entertaining novels of romance, history and mystery in an engaging you-are-there style that allows readers to live the history.

The Covid-19 virus has forced many of us to take extreme measures to protect ourselves. We've been forced to cover up, maintain our distance from others and hunker down in our homes.

Of all the things we've been asked or required to endure, this forced isolation is among the worst. For we are, at our very core, social beings. In many societies, solitary confinement is considered to be the ultimate form of punishment. Sadly, we are all are getting a small taste of that now.

Reading a good book has always been a preferred means of escape from our troubles. Reading an engaging novel can be healthy and it's certainly liberating. Are sheltering orders making you feel cooped up and longing for a new, wider experience? Writer Donna Fletcher Crow reports that she has heard from many who are looking for just that. The advice she gives them:

“‘I’m having so much trouble focusing.’ Is probably the complaint I hear most often from readers and writers alike when talking about the isolation we are all experiencing during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“One would think that, with all the time we have on our hands, we would be getting through stacks of books. But many are not finding it to be so.

“My advice? Try reading a good novel. One of the main functions of fiction is to carry the reader away to another time and place, to give the reader an enlarged experience. Those of us feeling confined by orders to shelter, need just that enlargement.

“I especially recommend reading a thriller or a good old-fashioned whodunit—which is exactly what I am doing myself. Mystery stories are gripping and transporting—in short, just the thing needed to take our minds off current worries.

“Many will already have favorite writers to turn to, but I recommend some of my favorites as well. For a truly breathless, can’t-put-it-down experience Dean Koontz is hard to beat. My favorite is Brother Odd, and the complete 8-book series is available in a bundle on Amazon.

“If you’re looking for something a little less intense, consider the classics. Dorothy L. Sayers is my favorite of the Golden Age writers; her The Nine Tailors at the top of my list. For a modern classic, try P.D. James’ Death in Holy Orders. And for even more classic, try Jane Austen’s Emma, (not just the movie) which many consider the first mystery novel.

“Of course, I would be delighted to have you sample my own series as well: The Monastery Murders are contemporary clerical mysteries with clues hidden deep in the middle ages; Lord Danvers Investigates is a Victorian true-crime series; and the Elizabeth and Richard Literary Suspense series is contemporary cozies with many of your favorite authors in the background, including Shakespeare, Jane Austen, and Dorothy L. Sayers. You can read more about them on my website at http://www.DonnaFletcherCrow.com.”

Donna Fletcher Crow, Award Winning Novelist Of British History, Announces Release Of Historical Novel, Where Love Calls, With A Covid-19 Type Episode In China Over 100 Years Ago As Background

Crow writes meticulously researched, entertaining novels of romance, history and mystery in an engaging you-are-there style that allows readers to live the history.

Award winning author Donna Fletcher Crow has announced the re-release of ‘Where Love Calls,’ book 6 in her Where There is Love series. Coincidentally the story line of the novel depicts events eerily similar to the current Covid-19 epidemic that occurred in China in 1880.

Disease rages in China, but missionary Harold Schofield never ceases his work or his prayers for God to send more workers to that land. In England, Kynaston Studd is the first within his circle of wealthy, popular athletes and university men to set his heart on going to China. But God seems to be calling his friends there instead of him. Meanwhile, Hilda Beauchamp is horrified to find herself falling in love with the man she had intended for her sister. The Cambridge Seven changed the world; but first, they had to let God change them.

Release of this book completes the re-release of the entire Where There Is Love series – the first time in print in over 20 years. The series centers on the enduring legacy of love and faith and features powerful stories of real people and stirring events inspiring readers anew today. The Where There Is Love series is Crow’s first and most successful series. Since 1986 it has been published in 6 editions, under various titles, in 5 formats and welcomed with enthusiasm by readers around the world.

In a recent blog post on her website entitled “China Burning,” Crow offers an extensive sample from the book that describes the situation in China during those years. This sample, found at https://donnafletchercrow.com/p/398/China-Burning, underscores Crow’s unparalleled ability to transport readers to other times and places through her use of descriptive prose and rich, granular detail.

In introducing that post she states, “While our world is in the grip of the Covid-19 virus, it’s instructive to ponder how history repeats itself. And how Good ultimately triumphs. Here, lifted from the pages of my newly re-released ‘Where Love Calls’, book 6 in the Where There is Love Series, we have scenes from China, 1880-1883, as another contagious epidemic rages. Yet, God brings glory from it.”

Crow further says, “This is just one more example of what I love about writing history—it is always up-to-date. Whether providing an object lesson or a mirror for our time, I’m always actually writing about now. I have learned that whatever we are going through at the moment, it has always been darker before—and we have always triumphed.”

The six books in the Where There Is Love series feature a significant number of historic people and events from the 18th and 19th centuries:

Where Love Begins: John and Charles Wesley, George Whitefield, William Law and the Countess of Huntingdon

Where Love Illumines: Charles Wesley, John Berridge, Rowland Hill and the Countess of Huntingdon.

Where Love Triumphs: Charles Simeon and Robert Hall.

Where Love Restores: Charles Simeon, William Wilberforce, the Earl of Harrowby and Dudley Ryder,

Where Love Shines: Florence Nightingale, Lord Shaftesbury and Charles Spurgeon.

Where Love Calls: Dwight L. Moody, Ira Sankey, Harold Schofield, The Cambridge Seven (including C.T. Studd) and Hudson Taylor.
