Tales2Inspire® Inspiring Stories Wins National Indie Excellence Award

'Tales2Inspire®' is an ongoing series of books that are inspiring and motivating. 'Tales2Inspire - The Diamond Collection III’ was drawn from two other Tales2Inspire® collections.

Lois W. Stern is a great believer in reaching out to help other authors, and now, having just received a coveted Finalist Award for her latest anthology, Tales2Inspire ~ The Diamond Collection-Series III, she has reaffirmed her belief in also reaching out to help herself.

"As a child," Stern stated, "I often heard these words, spoken by the noted scholar, Hillel: 'If I’m not for myself, who will be for me. If I’m only for myself, what am I? If not now, when?' Somehow those words must have become indelibly etched in my mind, because helping other authors has become an important part of my life’s work."

Along with her other writing accomplishments, since her retirement Lois has made it part of her life’s work to help other talented authors get the name recognition they deserve. And so, in 2012 she started her Tales2Inspire® ‘Authors Helping Authors' project/contest, as a way to recognize authors of the most inspiring stories that match the selected theme for that year. Although she has never charged authors to participate, to her surprise she has discovered that the more she helps lend others a helping hand, the more she continues to help brand herself.

This year Lois tried something new, proving that she could also be ‘for herself’. She combined all the stories from two Tales2Inspire Collections: (The Pearl: Stories of Awesome Kids) and (The Garnet: Stories in Feathers and Fur) into one larger anthology titled Tales2Inspire ~ The Diamond Collection - Series III, and entered it into a contest. To her great delight, she was notified that it was selected Finalist in the prestigious National Indie Excellence Award.

How Tales2Inspire® works: Each year Lois selects a new theme and first screens all submitted stories, accepting only those she thinks have a good shot in her annual competition. Then she sends each of those stories to a jury composed of three of those other authors, who use her click, click, click automated evaluation form for scoring, and also write a brief critique to give that author possible content editing suggestions. Each author then gets a second chance to edit their work. There are no submission fees. Each published story ends with a personal author bio page and their headshot. Winning authors receive many no-charge platform-building opportunities to set them on the path to discovery.

To be assured that each submitted story is true, Lois asks authors to submit at least one original photograph with their story to help authenticate its veracity. But even she didn’t realize the additional power photos would lend to these stories until she started reading Amazon posted reviews. Fans of Chicken Soup for the Soul are particularly enamored of Tales2Inspire books, commented on how much more they enjoyed the ‘Tales2Inspire’ stories, calling them more authentic and stating how much the inclusion of photos further enhanced the power of each story.

Because each of the stories included in any of the Tales2Inspire® collections is selected for its inspirational value, these books make ideal gifts for both those seeking a simple pick-me-up as well as those looking for uplifting, motivational messages presented in a very powerful way. Lois likes to remind those giving Tales2Inspire® books as gifts to take a moment to do this first: “Write a short message inside the front cover telling that person why they are special to you. I can almost guarantee that in that way, you are giving a cherished gift with lasting impact, (rather than a box of chocolates that disappears in a day or two.)" Each ‘Tales2Inspire’ book is filled with inspiring stories written by her winning authors. Their uplifting messages of hope and motivation make them appropriate reading for any age group.

More than a creation, ‘Tales2Inspire’ has become a passion, to which Lois dedicates over 100 hours per week. She has now published ten inspiring story anthologies, each with a separate theme, including ’Beyond Coincidence’, ‘Personal Awakenings’, ‘Gifts of Compassion’, ‘Awesome Kids’, ‘Stories of Feathers & Fur’ and others. Her upcoming theme, ‘Turning the Page’, will likely include submissions relating to our current pandemic and its aftermath, but will hardly be limited to that topic. Category updates, submission details and more are continually updated on the Tales2inspire® website.

Lois W. Stern is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at tales2inspire@optimum.net. ‘Tales2Inspire’ is available at Amazon and other online retailers. More information is available at the website at http://www.tales2inspire.com.

In 2012 she expanded on that idea with her Tales2Inspire® ‘Authors Helping Authors’ project.

Lois recently has undertaken another ‘Author Helping Author’ project by becoming Book Review Coordinator for Carolyn Howard-Johnson, a ten year UCLA adjust writing professor, for her popular blog, TheNewBookReviewBlogSpot. Inspirational Book Series, 'Tales2Inspire', To Make Donations To American Heart Association

'Tales2Inspire' is an ongoing series of books filled with inspiring and motivational stories compiled by Lois W. Stern

Lois W. Stern, creator of the 'Tales2Inspire' series of inspirational books, announced today that a portion of all proceeds from sales of the book series will be donated to the American Heart Association.

'Tales2Inspire' is a growing collection of anthologies of varied themes, with each book containing a compilation of stories filled with uplifting, inspiring messages compiled by author Lois W. Stern. Stern has authored some of these stories herself, but many more of them come from winners of her annual ‘Tales2Inspire’ contest.

Donating to organizations such as the American Heart Association is commendable. Stern however has a very specific reason for choosing The American Heart Association.

"With little warning, the bombshell hit," she recalled.  "My husband needed open heart surgery: quadruple bypass surgery, aortic valve replacement and ablation. He soldiered through, only to learn that X-rays showed a blood clot on his lung. He needed another surgery 24 hours later. - the surgery that nearly did him in. He actually flatlined on the gurney as they were preparing to return him to recovery. My sons and I were called together to listen to the worst possible news: it didn’t look like he was going to make it. I was in total shock, shouting at the attending physician, 'This second surgery was supposed to be simple-through-the-ribs surgery, and it killed him.' I heard code blue signals in the distant background. Little did I know that they had called together four of the most eminent surgeons from this large teaching hospital, who miraculously brought him back to life. Six years later, he is alive and well and full of energy. That is why I am contributing twenty percent of my Tales2Inspire book sale proceeds to two charities dear to my heart, The American Heart Association is one of them.”

“We are constantly bombarded with news of the three Ds: disasters, disease and death. A bit of positive energy during these often cold and unsympathetic times can go a long way to lighten and strengthen our spirits,” said Stern. “And because each story in the 'Tales2Inspire' collection is true, these books deliver exactly what they promise: inspiring stories to warm our hearts, lift our spirits and give us hope.”

Lois W. Stern has discovered that inspiring stories can be found everywhere. She continually seeks submissions by talented writers, but also keeps alert to news of unsung heroes whose fascinating stories find their way into one of her books. Each of the inspirational stories, including those submitted by Stern herself, is judged anonymously by a peer group to determine eligibility for publication. There are no fees to submit for consideration, and winning authors receive many no-charge platform-building opportunities.

The benefits of being a contributing author to 'Tales2Inspire' include, but are not limited to:

* Author's story published in a respected book collection

* Author’s headshot photo and mini-biography published inside the book

* Name listed on Amazon.com as a contributing author

* Story featured and promoted as the inspiring story of the week on the Tales2Inspire website.

* Story highlighted with an introductory video trailer on our  YouTube Winning Tales Channel

* Story featured on the Tales2Inspire Facebook page, selected LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter and other social media groups

* Story featured in the Inspiring Stories monthly newsletter, distributed to hundreds of subscribers, on a rotating basis throughout the years.

* Opportunities for free and low cost promotions on the Tales2Inspire Spotlight page, the YouTube Winning Tales Channel, media releases, personal bookmarks to match author’s story, and much more.

* Discounted prices for bulk orders of ten or more books, mix or match titles.

Full details about Stern’s annual contests, the books in the 'Tales2Inspire' series, and the authors and their stories are available on the 'Tales2Inspire' website.

Lois W. Stern is available for interviews and presentations. A sought after speaker, she holds her audiences in rapt attention with multi-media presentations of her winning stories and can be reached using the information below or by email at tales2inspire@optimum.net.

Although the books in the series are available at Amazon and other online retailers, readers need to place their orders at the website to have 20% of the proceeds from the sales of the books donated to their choice of charity: either the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Laughter Heals - 'Tales2Inspire' Releases New Inspirational Book In Series - 'Tales2Inspire, The Crystal Collection'

'Tales2Inspire' is an ongoing series of books filled with inspiring and motivational stories compiled by Lois W. Stern

Author Lois W. Stern has announced the release of 'Tales2Inspire - The Crystal Collection'. The new inspirational book is a departure from previous works in the series, as it is filled with humorous, true stories.

"After publishing four 'Tales2Inspire' books of heartwarming, inspiring stories, I felt we were all ready for a change of pace," Stern stated. "Why humor? How does humor inspire us? Simply by lifting our spirits and transporting us from the here and now to several moments of pure amusement. In the words of Josh Billings, 'Laughter is the sensation of feeling good all over and showing it principally in one place'. Bravo to the authors of the stories in this Crystal Collection - all winners in the 'Tales2Inspire' annual ‘Authors Helping Authors’ contest.

Unlike the inspiring stories of her earlier ‘Tales2Inspire’ collections, which Stern explained “touched the heart of most every reader”, she soon discovered the challenges of collecting humorous stories. “What tickled one person’s funny bone, left another one flat. What struck one person as hysterical, struck the next as a shaggy dog story.”

“When we consider some of today’s most popular comic personalities, we realize there is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to humor. Amy Schumer has received considerable  praise for the subversive feminism of her comedy, while cleverly addressing various social issues. Steve Colbert, who last month succeeded David Letterman as the host of The Late Show, brings roars of laughter for his caricatured version of conservative political pundits. Although both these personalities have enormously high ratings, other segments of the population are turned off by their brand of humor. I wanted the Crystal Collection stories to be more gentle in there approach to humor, with slice of life stories and true life episodes to which most everyone could relate.”

Cover'Tales2Inspire' is a growing collection of anthologies of varied themes, compiled by author Lois W. Stern. Tales2Inspire Honors Holocaust Remembrance Day Through Appeal To Everyone To Preserve Their True Stories

Lois W. Stern, creator of 'Tales2Inspire', hopes to preserve as many Holocaust tales as possible, and urges others to do the same. A story by Mark H. Newhouse, the son of Holocaust survivors, and a story of a hero who saved many lives while sacrificing his own, provide poignant proof of the urgency of this appeal

April 16 marks Holocaust Remembrance Day in the United States. Proposed by Steven Spielberg, film director of Schindler's List, a story of a Nazi party member who saved 1,100 Jews from extermination, on this day, both Holocaust survivors and victims of the concentration camps are honored and remembered through ceremonies held all over the globe. Due to the advancing age of the eyewitnesses, many of these stories may be lost and, sadly, many will be forgotten. Lois W. Stern, creator of 'Tales2Inspire', wants to recognize the heroes and the victims. She urges others to make an effort to help assure that these stories are written and preserved.

"When I created Tales2Inspire," Stern stated, "I never realized what an important mission it would fulfill, but now I see how deeply it has inspired others to preserve their true stories - stories which otherwise would perish. Several of these stories share memories of either Holocaust heroes or survivors, convincing me once again of the importance of capturing one’s stories of the past, before it is too late. As you read their stories, the passion of each writer is palpable. 'Tales2Inspire' has become a powerful vehicle for preserving an essential part of history."

"The urgency to preserve stories before they are lost forever was made very clear to me by the heartfelt regret of Mark H. Newhouse, the son of Holocaust survivors, in his story, ‘Legacy Lost’, which I was proud to feature in 'Tales2Inspire ~ the Sapphire Collection'. In this powerful, true account, this award-winning author for the first time reveals how he lost the opportunity to tell the true story of what happened to his mother, an Auschwitz survivor, and makes a poignant appeal that everyone, not just authors, record those seemingly unimportant stories for those who may learn and be inspired by them in the future."

“Life-changing events such as the Holocaust become immediate and arouse our emotions when they take on a human face. The story of one helps us understand the tragedy of millions,” explained Mark.

Another powerful Holocaust story that cries out for preservation speaks to the heroic actions of a priest during this tragic period in history. Through a chance encounter with a stranger in a German cemetery, the author of 'A Profile in Courage' learns the riveting details of how her grandfather, a Greek orthodox priest, sacrificed his life while safe-harboring hundreds of Jews. ‘A Profile in Courage', now published in 'Tales2Inspire - The Emerald Collection', again bears witness to the importance of preserving our stories as an essential part of history.

'Tales2Inspire' provides both published and aspiring authors with an opportunity to get one compelling, motivational story published, and offers those whose stories are selected for publication with some strong branding and platform building opportunities. “I don’t like using the word ‘unique’, explains Lois, “but 'Tales2Inspire' is truly unlike any other writer’s contest. First, there is no submission fee. Then, even after the awards are announced, I continue to work with the author of a ‘tale’ which shows exceptional promise. I do not charge for any of these services because I am committed to the ideal of 'Authors Helping Authors'. Of course there is something in it for me too as I get first rights to publication of each winning ‘tale’. But I also get so much pleasure in bringing these inspiring stories out into the world, for so many thousands of others to enjoy and perhaps even move to action.”

Stern and Newhouse are accomplished presenters who are happy to make themselves available for media interviews and presentations. They can be reached using the information below or by email at tales2inspire@optimum.net. The 'Tales2Inspire' series is available at Amazon and other book retailers. More information is available at the Tales2Inspire website at http://www.tales2inspire.com.

Profiles:

Mark H. Newhouse is the multi-award winning author of The Rockhound Science Mysteries and Midnight Diet Club, as well as other books and stories for adults and children. After his story, ‘Legacy Lost’, was honored by 'Tales2Inspire', Newhouse has embarked on a middle grade novel, tentatively titled, Mysteries of Our Past, where a young boy must become a detective to uncover how his family was murdered during the Holocaust. “The success of ‘Legacy Lost’ convinced me of the importance of keeping these stories alive," he stated. "I don’t want to see a time when children stop learning about this tragic period in history, but I also want to create a story that offers hope that we can overcome the hate that seems so powerful today. And I do believe that is one of the central missions of 'Tales2Inspire'."

Lois W. Stern, creator of 'Tales2Inspire', an “Authors Helping Authors” project/contest, is passionate about this project which she initiated three and one half years ago. She works tirelessly to encourage and nurture the skills of authors whose stories show unique promise, and credits each author for their stories published within one of the 'Tales2Inspire' collections. Stern is proud to have already published four 'Tales2Inspire' books: The Emerald, Topaz, Sapphire and Ruby Collections. Her goal is to continue to publish more books of wonderfully inspirational stories, which make great gifts for readers of all ages. The stories within this motivational series include true stories of many different themes featuring people, animals and inspiring, sometimes life-changing events. The important thing is that these stories infuse us with positive energy and hope.

Lois also wants to preserve stories that are not so serious, so for a change of pace she is hoping her next 'Tales2Inspire' book will be a collection of humorous, true stories, “because after all, humor is a great anecdote for uplifting one’s spirits and replenishing the soul,” she explains. The 'Tales2Inspire' 2015 contest is now underway, with a deadline date of May 1, 2015. Stern welcomes stories of many different themes and urges anyone who has a great story to share to visit her frequently updated website.

From Prison To Prosperity - Tales2Inspire Presents The Story Of Ray Tapia

'Tales2Inspire' is an ongoing series of books filled with inspiring and motivational stories compiled by Lois W. Stern

A recent story in the New York Times entitled 'Even as Many Eyes Watch, Brutality at Rikers Island Persists' details the problems at Riker's Island. The US Attorney's office, after issuing a report about the brutality at the complex, threatened to sue the city if the situation is not improved.

Another recent story by the New York Times entitled 'Out Of Prison and Staying Out, After 3rd Strike in California', presented some very enlightening information regarding the experiences of inmates released after being handed life sentences under California's 3 strikes law. The return rate, according to the article, is remarkably low.

These stories present two starkly contrasted views of the prison system and the treatment of those caught up in that system.

Ray Tapia’s personal story, From Dungeon to Dignity, now published in 'Tales2Inspire - The Ruby Collection', tells of his struggles after being convicted of armed robbery, serving time in one of the worst run prisons in the Nebraska Prison system, repeatedly being thrown in “the hole”, beaten and abused, becoming a rebellious ringleader who incited riots and fires within the prison walls. And then things began to change. With the help of a new warden, this same prison morphed into something more than a punishment machine. New programs were set in motion to rehabilitate those prisoners who were willing to participate. Ray was one of them. He turned his life around, married his love, Nida, together producing four children all living near the parental home. He has been gainfully employed for over thirty-five years and is a warm hearted pillar of his community.

"Each time I tell Ray’s story," Stern stated, "I get feedback exclaiming 'This one would make a fabulous movie.' Although I celebrate each of my author’s successes, and find it especially gratifying that two of their stories are currently being produced as films, I fervently hope to see Ray’s story, From Dungeon to Dignity, take its rightful place among those honored few."

"Tales2Inspire' provides the best-of-the-best with an opportunity to get one compelling story published, and start them on the road to several strong branding and platform building opportunities. I don’t like using the word ‘unique’ but Tales2Inspire is truly unlike any other writer’s contest. First, there is no submission fee. Then, even after the awards are announced, I continue to work with the author of a ‘tale’ which shows exceptional promise. Author Mary Romero Featured In Motivational Book, 'Tales To Inspire: The Sapphire Collection'

Mary Romero's story reveals that, even though she and her siblings witnessed spousal abuse as young children, she managed to bring good memories into her adult years and went on to help others facing similar challenges

According to the 2010 Intimate Partner Violence Report issued by the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, 24.3% of women have been subjected to physical violence by an intimate partner and 48.4% have experienced at least one psychologically aggressive behavior by an intimate partner during their lifetime. The long-term effects of these types of episodes can and do change lives. Mary Romero is one of those people who suffered abuse as a child.

But in Mary's case, she managed to overcome this challenge. She used her experience to help her become an effective, loving parent. She also built a successful career as a therapist, help families overcome similar challenges. Her story is featured in 'Tales To Inspire: The Sapphire Collection'.

"My winning story, 'The Heart of Home is Hot Chocolate', stems from a childhood filled with spousal abuse, child abuse and molestation," Mary stated.  "All three of these topics are subjects that we, the general public, hear about every single day across the country yet; very few strides have been made to stop the cycles of familial abuse. Just in recent months we have heard of the 8 year-old boy who had been repeatedly tortured and beaten by his parents.  Several social workers who were supposed to be on the case were fired due to their findings of 'no abuse'.  Upon being examined it was noted that he, '…had BB pellets lodged in his lungs and groin.'  This, along with the two even more recent stories of domestic violence with professional football players, Ray Rice and Ray McDonald, makes it appear as though the powers that be are not moving quickly enough to prevent these atrocities from occurring. While these are not topics that society wishes to admit exist, they are all too common for children across these United States and children around the world.  My own experiences are what led me to become a Life Coach, child advocate and author on these and other important topics.   I have written about my own childhood in my book entitled, 'The Breakdown of an All American Family, an autobiography of child abuse, domestic violence and recovery'.  While these are difficult and often very heart wrenching stories, they are real with real victims who are being affected every day and these effects can last a lifetime.   There needs to be a greater awareness in order to protect our most precious commodity, our children."

Mary started working with the juvenile population over twenty five years ago in an effort to help effect change after working in the legal field.  Her dedication and determination to help stop abuses of children and adults alike has made her an expert in her field.  Mary has received several awards for her "Outstanding Dedication and Excellence in her Profession".

Stern has discovered that inspiring stories can be found everywhere. She continually seeks submissions by talented writers, but also keeps alert to news of unsung heroes whose fascinating stories find they way into one of her books . Each of the inspirational stories, including those submitted by Stern herself, is judged anonymously by a peer group to determine eligibility for publication. There are no fees to submit for consideration, and winning authors receive many no-charge platform-building opportunities.

"Because each of the stories included in any of the ‘Tales2Inspire’ collections is selected for its inspirational value, these books make ideal gifts for both those seeking a simple pick-me-up to those looking for uplifting, motivational messages presented in a very powerful way," Stern stated. "The appeal of these books is not just for people who need a major lift in spirits, but also for those just wanting a good read with embedded ‘feel good’ messages."

In a recent review of ‘Tales2Inspire’, Bernie Siegel, MD, author of ‘A Book Of Miracles’ and ‘365 Prescriptions for the Soul' stated, “(These are books) with a heart. Filled with stories which reveal what happens when we choose to live in a way that is life enhancing for all God's creatures. Our potential is miraculous when we choose to inspire the vapor of love. The people in these stories have always been my teachers. Read and learn the lessons of life.”

Olympic Injuries Demonstrate The Need For Spinal Cord Injury Awareness And Increased Support

Spinal cord injury is one of the most debilitating forms of injury, affecting 1.25 million Americans. While technology advances at a record pace, funding for research is now being cut. Many of those affected can only hope. Gabriel Cordell is one of those people. His inspiring story appears in 'Tales2Inspire - The Topaz Collection'

During qualifying at the Sochi Olympics two women snowboarders were carried off the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park course on stretchers following crashes. The crashes came one day after Russian skicross racer Maria Komissrova suffered a serious spinal injury during a crash on the same slope. These events have served to bring spinal cord injuries to the forefront of our consciousness, and to demonstrate the need for more research and support systems for those affected.

Spinal cord injury affects 1.25 million Americans. The aftermath of such injuries can be horrific, sometimes resulting in total paralysis. Gabriel Cordell suffered such an injury as the result of an auto accident. Whereas some people might simply give up, Gabriel instead found the courage to demonstrate the indomitable nature of the human spirit. His tale, one of many inspiring stories found in Tales2Inspire ~ The Topaz Collection (Stories of Awakenings & Aha Moments), and recounted by Lois W. Stern, is titled 'Roll of a Lifetime’. Gabriel takes on this new challenge by rolling across America in a non-motorized wheelchair. His personal awakening came as a result of the inspiration and support he received from those who stood by to cheer him on.

"Reading about the spinal injuries incurred by participants in the 2014 Olympic skiing events brings back memories of my story about Gabriel Cordell,” said author Lois W. Stern. “At first Gabriel thought this challenge was all about him - a way to validate himself as a man and give his parents that moment of pride in his accomplishments. But one week into the 'Roll', he came face to face with his 'Awakenings' moment, suddenly recognizing that this trip was not about him, but about a way to inspire others to be better and do better with their lives. While we remain hopeful that none of the Olympic participants incur permanent spinal injuries, Gabriel’s story reminds us that even those who face extreme physical challenges can find alternate paths to fulfillment.”

'Tales2Inspire' is a growing collection of anthologies of varied themes, with each book containing a compilation of stories filled with uplifting, inspiring messages. Stern has authored some of these stories herself, but most come from winners of her annual ‘Tales2Inspire’ contest.

"Because each of the stories included in any of the Tales2Inspire™ collections is selected for its inspirational value, these books make ideal gifts for both those seeking a simple pick-me-up as well as those looking for uplifting, motivational messages presented in a very powerful way. In a recent review of ‘Tales2Inspire’, Bernie Siegel, MD, author of ‘A Book Of Miracles’ and ‘365 Prescriptions for the Soul' stated, “This is a book with a heart. Categories for future consideration are continually updated on the Tales2inspire website.

Child's Spinal Cord Injury Is The Basis For Inspiring And Motivational Story In 'Tales2Inspire'

Spinal cord injury is one of the most debilitating forms of injury, affecting 1.25 million Americans. While technology advances at a record pace, funding for research is now being cut. Many of those affected continue to hope. Garret Frey is one of those people. His inspiring story appears in 'Tales2Inspire - The Topaz Collection'

Spinal cord injury affects 1.25 million Americans. The aftermath of such injuries can be horrific, sometimes resulting in total paralysis. Whereas some people might simply give up, others face the overwhelming challenges inherent in such injuries and go on to lead fulfilling lives. Garret Frey is one such person. His inspiring story in ‘The Topaz Collection’, by Karen Hutchins Pirnot, Ph.D., demonstrates the indomitable nature of the human spirit.

Garret was left quadriplegic and ventilator dependent for life after a motorcycle accident that happened when he was just four years old. Dr. Pirnot spent seven years with Garrett. Her story, related in 'Tales2Inspire' describes how Garrett moved ever onward toward excellence and, perhaps without realizing it, managed to take Dr. Pirnot along on that journey.

"In a day in which advances in technology are forthcoming at a record pace," Dr. Pirnot stated, "the funding for technology which could be critical to human survival is being cut.  In particular recent government cuts in funding for those with spinal cord injuries is affecting thousands of individuals with various forms of paralysis.  One of those hoping for scientific advances is young Garret Frey of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the subject of my story, "As I Am" now published in the ‘Tales2Inspire - The Topaz Collection’ of inspiring stories.  Garret was injured at the tender age of four years and was rendered quadriplegic and ventilator-dependent.  The means to restore motor functioning was simply unavailable at the time. Despite his handicaps, Garret managed to graduate from high school and attend college.  Garret's adjustment to a purely cognitive life has been phenomenal but for those more recently injured, the prognosis could be dismal unless the means are found to transmit scientific advances to the adaptive functioning of those with spinal cord injuries."

'Tales2Inspire', presented by Lois W. Stern, is a compilation of life inspiring messages and motivational stories from contributing authors. Each edition presents inspiring stories and messages of hope to readers of any age group.

"Because each of the stories included in any of the Tales2Inspire™ collections is selected for its inspirational value, these books are ideal matches for groups and individuals seeking uplifting, motivational messages presented in a very powerful way. Every story could make a real impact on those who need these kinds of messages. That could be anybody -  from a hospital patient who needs a major lift in spirits to those who are facing smaller, every day kinds of challenges and just want a quick pick-me-up. They are priced to fit any budget and make great gifts."

In a recent review of ‘Tales2Inspire’, Bernie Siegel, MD, author of ‘A Book Of Miracles’ and ‘365 Prescriptions for the Soul' stated, “This is a book with a heart. Filled with stories which reveal what happens when we choose to live in a way that is life enhancing for all God's creatures. Our potential is miraculous when we choose to inspire the vapor of love. Inspirational stories, submitted by authors, are judged by a peer group to determine eligibility for publication. Future submission categories are likely to include themes such as Compassion, Reflections, Courage, Faith (non-denominational), Everyday Miracles, Dreams Fulfilled and Success through Perseverance, with those currently open continually updated on the Tales2inspire website.

Baby Survives Fatal Diagnosis: Inspirational Book, 'Tales2Inspire', Recounts Miraculous Tale

Nothing is more heartbreaking than a fatal diagnosis for an infant. But miracles can happen. 'Tales2Inspire' is a compilation of miraculous stories. One of those inspirational stories demonstrates clearly that miracles can and do take place

U.S. Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler's two-week-old baby is believed by doctors to be the first child to survive Potter Sequence, a usually fatal in-utero illness caused by prenatal kidney failure. This inspirational story, one that made headlines around the world, demonstrates that medical miracles can and do happen. Author Lois W. Stern, creator of a series of inspirational books entitled 'Tales2Inspire', believes that these kinds of miracles happen more often than we might think and that a fatal diagnosis is not necessarily the end.

One of the stories in 'Tales2Inspire', recounted by Cami Ann Hofstadter, is entitled 'Maintenance For My Soul: The Man From Nowhere'. In this story a mysterious stranger, dressed as a maintenance man, appears out of nowhere right after Cami's baby is given a life-shattering diagnosis.

"Reading about the in-utero medical intervention that saved US representative Jaime Herrera Beutler's newborn baby’s life," Hofstadter stated, "brought back memories of my ‘Man From Nowhere’ story. Like many other parents, I was devastated when told that the chances of my baby surviving surgery were next to nil. Then along came this man from nowhere, who didn’t say anything profound, speak of miracles or quote from a religious text, but gave me hope. He was right. My baby was found to be perfectly healthy, without need for surgical intervention. Although U.S. Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler's experience is different, - in her case her growing embryo’s lungs would have ceased to develop without the in-utero medical intervention that changed a death sentence to a healthy life - as mothers, we share our awe when faced with a miracle. In the words of the late Gilda Radner, I like to think of these moments as "delicious ambiguity". What other words best capture the angel driven miracles we both experienced?"

Stern’s collection of inspirational and motivational stories asks the question, “Is there really such a thing as coincidence, or could there be an unknown force, a higher power, taking charge?” This is a question readers are likely to ponder as they read the collection of life inspiring messages contained within the pages of ‘Tales2Inspire’.

"The inspiring messages," Stern stated, "embedded in the winning stories in this Tales 2 Inspire: Beyond Coincidence collection have deepened my faith in the nature of miracles. Angels in human form truly can appear to watch over us, touching our lives in mysterious ways to help our prayers unfold."

In a recent review of ‘Tales2Inspire’, Bernie Siegel, MD, author of ‘A Book Of Miracles’ and ‘365 Prescriptions for the Soul' stated, “This is a book with a heart. Cami Ann Hofstadter is a published author and educator in Miami, Florida. Under different names for different genres, she has been published in venues from a law review to a local newspaper. She had a long-standing monthly column in Miami Today, and continues to do human interest stories that challenge the thought-processes of her readers. Check out her latest piece in the Feb. 2012 issue of Golf Digest to see how years of caring for a depressive, obsessive-compulsive man continues to provide rich fodder for her current work on a book about loving a person like that. She’s also trying her hands at a play about a Holocaust-related incident in her native Scandinavia.

Pope John Paul II Sainthood: Lois W. Stern, Creator Of ‘Tales2Inspire’ Offers Proof Miracles Happen

Do miracles really happen? As the Catholic Church prepares to canonize Pope John Paul II, questions regarding miracles are in the news daily. Lois W. Stern’s compilation of inspiring stories, ‘Tales To Inspire: Beyond Coincidence - The Emerald Collection’ offers inspiring stories, life inspiring messages and several tales of real life miracles

The Catholic Church believes miracles can and do exist. Others are not so sure. Regardless of one’s perspective, actual proof of miracles is not easy to come by. Several stories in Lois W. Stern’s new release, ‘Tales To Inspire: Beyond Coincidence’ could be said to provide proof that miracles happen.

"The inspiring messages," Stern stated, "embedded in the winning stories in this Tales 2 Inspire: Beyond Coincidence collection have deepened my faith in the nature of miracles. Angels in human form truly can appear to watch over us, touching our lives in mysterious ways to help our prayers unfold. I hope this little book filled with powerful messages will either challenge others in their thinking about the nature of miracles or simply confirm their long held beliefs."

In one such story, ‘The Voice’ by Stan Cupery M.D., Dr. Don Lloyd is presented at the emergency room with a newborn left by the mother to freeze to death on the basement floor of an abandoned building. After attempting all medically known interventions to revive this nearly frozen solid infant, the doctor and five nurses realize that time is running out. Nothing seems to be working. Then they all hear a voice  telling them:‘Ask God for help.’

Dr.  Lloyd is inspired to pray like he has never prayed before. He is struck with an idea and decides to try a procedure never before attempted. When the ICU people arrive expecting to find a dead baby, they instead find a pink, crying infant.

After the ICU people leave, Dr. Lloyd asks which of the five nurses had made the prayer suggestion. Each swore that although they had heard those very same words, none of them had uttered them and no one else had been present in the room at the time.

In a recent review of ‘Tales2Inspire’, Bernie Siegel, MD, author of ‘A Book Of Miracles’ and ‘365 Prescriptions for the Soul' stated, “This is a book with a heart. [October 27, 2010 Wilmington NC ] Lois W. Stern, author and nationally recognized beauty expert, is featured in '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading. "I am thrilled," stated Ms. Stern, "to have been selected for inclusion in the first edition of the Authors Show book, '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading'. Most anyone can crack open a stone, but to skillfully crack it open to uncover an exquisite, undamage jewel buried within takes experience and precision. So it is with quality writing, where only through equal measures of talent, perseverance, and word polishing can an author bring out the jewel buried within. Because I understand the challenges inherent to the writing process, I feel especially honored and somewhat humbled to find myself amongst the featured authors in this book."

Lois W. Stern is a nationally known author, plastic surgery expert, editor-at-large for MakeMeHeal.com and is the author of 'Sex, Lies and Cosmetic Surgery' and 'Tick, Tock Stop The Clock'. The Professional Series DVD is a natural extension to Stern's highly acclaimed book, 'Sex, Lies and Cosmetic Surgery', which garnered a number of industry awards, was featured in a full length article on page 2 of the Sunday edition of the Style section of the New York Times and L.A. Times, and was just released in a new edition with an interactive CD. This CD should not be confused with the professional edition DVD which includes key excerpts from this book as well as helpful checklists, self-assessment forms, original articles, video and audio segments and more. Book excerpts detail the real life experiences of over 100 women who have undergone cosmetic surgery (including those of the author), and was crafted to help anyone considering cosmetic procedures better understand its emotional undercurrents while answering crucial questions, providing reassurance and offering guidance. In short, it is designed to help the prospective patient better partner with her surgeon to enhance the entire cosmetic surgery experience.

Book Marketing - An Interview With Lois W. Stern

Book marketing is fast becoming a very specialized sub-set of Internet marketing. I recently had the opportunity to speak with author Lois W. Stern, editor-at-large for MakeMeHeal.com and author of several books on the subject of cosmetic surgery.

Lois is a writer who has experienced success in regards to marketing her work in today's Internet marketing environment. She knows what must be done and she does it well. In this interview she gives us a glimpse into what she has done to achieve her current level of success.

How many books have you written - Tell us about them

I’ve written two books for adults and four books for children. My most recent books include Sex, Lies and Cosmetic Surgery, which is an in depth look into the emotional undercurrents to cosmetic surgery. My second book, Tick Tock, Stop the Clock ~ Getting Pretty on Your Lunch Hour explains what to expect (and not expect) from the many non-invasive and minimally invasive aesthetic procedures that proliferate today.

What was your goal in writing these books?
The goals for these two books were very different. Sex, Lies and Cosmetic Surgery was a blending of research, interviews (with over 100 women), and memoir. I know the common perception out there is that women who undergo cosmetic surgery are motivated by vanity, but I really didn’t find that to be the case. There are many other misperceptions floating about and taboo topics that I felt should be brought to light and did just that in SLCS. Tick Tock, Stop the Clock ~ Getting Pretty on Your Lunch Hour is packed with valuable, hype-free information about the non-surgical aesthetic treatments available to us today.

What have you found to be your greatest marketing challenge?
As authors, we write because we have something important to say or to satisfy a creative urge. Most of us give little thought to marketing our books until after giving birth to them. It wasn’t until my proof copy - that beautiful newborn baby - arrived in the mail, that I first began to focus on the next step - how to market my book. BIG MISTAKE! It’s absolutely essential to start building that platform early on, but so hard to do so before one has the credentials of a published book. It’s a catch 22 for most of us. Authors really need to work just as hard at building a brand for themselves as they do at writing their books - maybe even harder.

What is the key to successfully marketing books in today's environment?
Don’t get discouraged. If plan A doesn’t work out for you, be ready to move on to plan B. I contacted many radio personalities in the hopes of getting on the air - mostly with discouraging results. But after having many of my requests ignored or turned down, I struck gold with Patty Kovacs, host of the Health and Beauty Revolution Show out in California. Patty has interviewed some of the most famous plastic surgeons, dermatologists and New York Times best selling authors, so you can imagine my excitement in learning that I was going to be a guest on her show! That interview went very well, and we became friendly through a series of coincidences. We worked together on several writing projects, and here’s the most amazing part of the story. We are now partners and dear friends - with our own website and newsletter - without ever meeting in person!

What has been the most successful book marketing method you have used?
For me, giving live presentations and interviews seems to work well. Sometimes I seek them out, but at other times I am approached first. A journalist called to ask: “Do people tend to treat you differently after cosmetic surgery?” We talked for awhile and 3 paragraphs about me ended up in her article “Hey, It’s Still Me in There” on the first page of the Sunday edition of the Style section of the NY and LA Times. My Amazon sales went through the roof for the next few months.

Here’s another idea that has worked for me. I did a panel presentation for an authors’ conference called “Authors Helping Authors”. I try to live that motto as I do believe there are so many little ways we can help one another. If I particularly like a book written by a fellow author, I write a review and post it on Amazon with a 4 or 5 star rating. I have also made good connections leading to bulk sales for a couple of authors.

I do find it very satisfying to extend a helping hand to other authors and recommend a buddy system. But be forewarned, there is no free lunch. No one will continue to reach out to the author who is just a taker. We all have to think in terms of reciprocity, not just what’s in it for me!

What has been the least successful book marketing method you have used?
I agonize over the details too much and tend to lose sight of the big picture. Sometimes I just have to step back and say to myself: “Hey, what do you really want to accomplish here and is this the most expedient path to that goal?”

Do you follow a formal marketing plan for your book?
No, not really. But I do keep a notebook with an itemized list of tasks I want to accomplish each week. I feel so good when I can check something off as a task completed - especially if it has worked out well. That list keeps me focused and on target. I don’t always start at the top of my list and work my way down. It’s more a matter of what excites me that particular day, because I know if I feel energized, I’ll do a better job.

Does the level of competition for the buyer's attention (on the Internet) concern you?
I don’t know if ‘concern’ is the right word for what I feel, but the level of competition is certainly a reality. I am keenly aware of it. No doubt my job would be much easier if those numbers were cut in half, but there is no point in fretting about things I can’t control.

What do you see in the future for the small independent book store?
I worry about them. So many of the independents have gone out of business and I find that so sad. Even the gigantic B & N near Lincoln Center in NYC has announced that it’s closing it doors. Amazon offers books at such low prices that the brick and mortar stores simply can’t compete. I support our local independent, Book Revue, as much as I can because they and others like them offer services that Amazon can’t provide. I did two author presentations at Book Revue and so has just about every best selling author you can name, including an impressive list of celebrities and politicians.

At what point would you feel you would be able to say 'I've made it'?
I guess that depends on one's definition of success, doesn't it. When I receive e-mail messages from readerstelling me of the profound effect Sex, Lies and Cosmetic Surgery has had on them, that's an unbelievably rewarding experience! Here are two examples: I received one e-mail with the words, "Greetings From Switzerland" in the subject line. This woman wrote that she had purchased 12 books on cosmetic surgery in preparation for her own facelift. Yet with all those books at her disposal, Sex, Lies and Cosmetic Surgery was the one that she and her hubby kept going back to post-surgery because it told it all with such honesty and candor. (She even shared it with her plastic surgeon, who now recommends it to his English speaking patients.)

Another woman, who was emotionally overwrought post-surgery, wrote to tell me that in desperation she googled the words: "Sexual attraction toward your plastic surgeon", discovered SLCS, and wrote to tell me how much my book
helped her understand and work through her own emotions - so much so that she then ordered a second copy for her plastic surgeon with a note suggesting that he pay particular attention to chapters 5 and 6. You see, she had tried to discuss this topic with him, but his inadequate response actually exacerbated the issue.

What are your feelings regarding e-books and electronic book readers?
I just returned from the Infinity Publishing annual writers conference where their CEO, Art Glutz talked at length about the huge impact e-books are already having on the book publishing market. Other speakers voiced similar opinions. Jerry Simmons, twenty plus year veteran executive with Time Warner Books has been touting the coming impact of e-books on the publishing industry for several years. No one has that crystal ball, but at least we should be aware of what the experts are saying.

What advice would you give to other authors just entering the book marketing arena?
Treat rejections and disappointments as an opportunity to learn and grow. Don’t retreat. Just move on. The name of the game is perseverance.

Along with that I would add, trust and follow your instincts. I knew I couldn’t write Tick Tock, Stop the Clock ~ Getting Pretty On Your Lunch Hour - a book of considerable scope and information requiring considerable expertise, without the help of a variety of aesthetic professionals. Do you know how I recruited my experts? I simply called, introduced myself, explained my mission and asked.
