Award Winning Author Of Children's Books, Dr Nicole, Announces Latest Book In Felix And Booboo Series, 'Lucas Has An Earache'

Dr. Nicole is a multi-award winning best-selling author, based in Quebec. She writes children’s books that educate, inspire and teach valuable life lessons.

Multi-award-winning children's book author Dr. Nicole has announced the release of a new book in the Felix and Booboo Series, 'Lucas Has An Earache'. The new book is one of a series of eight books that address medical issues and make them understandable for young children. The goal is to increase the child's understanding of his body and to help eliminate fear of diseases. This series is also available in French (Félix et Boubou) in paperback, Kindle and PDF versions.

In this book Lucas, Felix’s cousin, cannot swim because he has an ear infection. Fortunately, Felix and his magical medical  instruments have a good solution to fight the bacteria responsible for this infection. This story reveals the secrets of otitis. This book will help children understand the issues surrounding earaches and will help them understand that suffering from otitis is normal for many people and is no cause for alarm. The book includes a quiz at the end to further the understanding of the child in regards to allergies.

"My true intentions regarding writing this series are to inspire children to read, to set their imaginations free and to encourage good decision-making regarding health, safety and critical thinking," Dr. Nicole stated. " Writing children’s books is a way for me to give back and be a positive resource to the community. It is a way that I can positively express myself while having some fun and at the same time be a positive role model for both children and caregivers. I hope that my books inspire children to set their minds free and work to make the world a better place. Otitis are frequent children’s disease. My intention was to explain this disease to children and their care givers."

In addition to otitis, other subjects covered in the series include gastroenteritis, broken bones, head lice, allergies, the human body, vaccinations and chickenpox. All of the books in the series can be used by educators and medical professionals to help kids understand that these types of conditions are normal and are not to be feared or avoided.

In the traditions of Walt Disney and Dr. Seuss, Dr. Nicole breathes life into inanimate objects and wildly entertaining characters that engage children in powerful ways. Through the parent/child interaction, her works develop a love for reading while helping children develop the most important skill of all - critical thinking. If a child can master the art of critical thinking, nearly everything else falls into place.

Dr. Nicole’s books have won numerous international awards. A full listing of the awards can be found on her website.

'Lucas Has An Earache' has received Readers’ Favorite 5 stars. The reviewer Edith Wairimu wrote, "Lucas Has an Earache by Dr. Nicole Audet is definitely an interesting story for all young readers. Many young children find a visit to the doctor a daunting and frightening experience. However, Dr. Nicole Audet finds a creative and imaginative way of making the visits more fun and less scary. In this particular book, some of the most common instruments used in a hospital for children are explained and their functions elaborated upon. The questions incorporated at the end of the story are spot on. They will definitely enhance readers' comprehension of the function of each medical instrument, particularly in the case of ear ailments. Additionally, the illustrations by Mylène Villeneuve are interesting and innovative. Overall, the idea behind the book, 'Lucas Has an Earache' by Dr. Nicole Audet, is simply brilliant and the execution even more accurate and enthralling."

Dr. Nicole also received recognition as one of Quebec's Top 10 Women by the Maman Dion Foundation. Dr. Nicole is a multi-award winning best-selling author, based in Quebec. She writes children’s books that educate, inspire and teach valuable life lessons.

Multi-award-winning children's book author Dr. Nicole has announced the release of a new book in the Felix and Booboo Series, 'Maya's Head Is Itching'. The Authors Show Launches US And Global Children, Teen, Adult Literacy Project, 'Give A Book, Get A Smile'

The new program will distribute donated books to children, teenagers and adults, both nationally and worldwide.

Low literacy is a staggering problem. According to the ProLiteracy website, children of parents with low literacy skills are more likely to get poor grades, have behavioral problems and drop out. 43% of adults with the lowest literacy levels live in poverty. In addition, an excess of 230 billion a year in health care cost is linked to low adult literacy. Danielle Hampson, Executive Producer of The Authors Show intends to bring authors together to help make a difference.

Through its newly launched “Give A Book Get A Smile” initiative, The Authors Show is calling on its large network of authors and publishing industry professionals to donate books to the project for distribution to children, teenagers and adults who are challenged with reading skills, or access to books.

"Give A Book Get A Smile" is a long-term project with multiple phases. Ms. Hampson is calling on authors to donate at least five books (fiction/non-fiction) either in the children category – age 4-12, or young adults for teens, or adult books. She especially welcomes self-help books, both in personal and business development. From a recipient standpoint, eighty percent of donated books within the USA will go to schools with a large student population of underprivileged children, troubled youth organizations, women shelters, and to the homeless community throughout the United States.  The balance of twenty percent will be earmarked for foreign distribution.

“I do volunteer work with an advanced leadership program for women in China that has a literacy project, and in my last trip to China I brought children books for them”, Hampson stated. “When I gave the books, I received such big smiles back that I immediately thought to start a project to help them, and the name 'Give A Book Get A Smile' sounded like a perfect fit. Upon my return to the U.S., with many literacy issues in our own back yard, I felt the need to also help people right here at home. In that I work in online media in the publishing industry, I knew I could leverage my 12+ years of contacts in this industry to bring this project to life.”

As more books are donated to the program, other phases will be implemented to expand the reach of the donations to local communities in all fifty states, Canada, and to more countries.  All recipients will be vetted to insure the books are needed and are indeed provided to those who do need them.

Danielle Hampson is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at danielle@theauthorsshow.com. More information about “Give A Book Get A Smile” is available at http://www.GiveABookGetASmile.com.

Parents, Grandparents And Teachers Can Celebrate World Peace Day On September 21, 2017, By Sharing Smart Tools For Life With Young Children

Smart Tools for Life specializes in books and music to guide children to create peace through social emotional learning and conflict resolution skills during their formative years. Its campaign, “I STOP for Peace,” compiles and celebrates the individual acts children do to make the world a better place.

September 21 is the day schools and homes across the world will sit down with their children and talk about peace. According to the United Nations website, the International Day of Peace this year ". . . will focus on engaging and mobilizing people throughout the world to show support for refugees and migrants."

“Those who are not suffering from a war-torn environment can sometimes push aside this day as irrelevant for them. However, so many of our actions have world-wide implications. We need to remember we can do something in all communities to bring people together and enhance their safety and dignity,” said Julie Penshorn of Smart Tools for Life. “For young children, we can introduce them to child-friendly conflict resolution and peacemaking materials.”

The Smart Tools for Life project, “I STOP for Peace”, focuses on drawing attention to the peaceful conflict resolution techniques and acts of kindness and caring already present in the child’s world. It invites children to share a story of how they worked out a problem with someone, or spent time playing with the new child in school, or had a child from a different country or background over to their house, or brainstormed a solution to a problem that worked for all.

Celebrated across the globe every year as the International Day of Peace, the goal of World Peace Day is to bring nations and people together. The theme for 2017 is "Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All". The upcoming book, the second in the Barnyard Buddies series, “The Barnyard Buddies Meet a Refugee” will make this topic relevant to all young children as they watch the unhappy, lonely dog find acceptance and purpose in the group of Barnyard Buddies.

At the Smart Tools For Life website, people can find out more about this book and others, and submit their children’s stories. Smart Tools for Life is compiling them and will share them in an upcoming book. Those contributing to the book will be sent a free copy.

World Peace Day is especially timely and relevant this year, because the subject of immigration and the refugee crisis have become a political battleground in the US, effectively splitting the population into two camps - those for and those against. It is urgent that we, as a society of global citizens, learn to resolve our conflicts, on this topic and others, in ways that enhance dignity, respect, and safety for all involved, rather than pursue ways that divide us.

But how do we do that? As Gandhi said, “We must begin with the children.” Smart Tools for Life creates children’s books, children’s music and other state-of-the-art resources that teach children how to problem solve in creative, respectful, and peaceful ways. They provide practical and inspiration tools rooted in the latest concepts in neuroscience, social and emotional education, and environmental education. The materials are catchy and fun, and are a great way to introduce young learners to the idea that developing these skills and caring for themselves, others, and the planet, is not only fun and engaging, it’s a normal part of their learning process.

By sharing these tools with children, influencers help kids become the leaders of tomorrow, capable of co-creating a culture we all want to live in.

“The children easily grasp the skills for conflict resolution and anger management when they are presented in an engaging story like 'The Barnyard Buddies STOP For Peace'. They will refer to the Barnyard Buddies long after the story is read in the classroom or home,” said Penshorn.

“I heard a wonderful story from a parent who told me they went to the zoo after reading the book and the four-year-old child said, ‘Oh look! The zebras are not sharing their shelter! They need to have Mrs. McCloud (the peacemaking owl in the story) help them learn to be peacemakers.’

“Everybody remembers the Dr. Seuss stories they read to their children, or heard as children,” continues Penshorn. “That’s because this type of story sinks deeply into the hearts and minds of kids, often for life. At Smart Tools for Life, we create similar stories: fun, engaging, rhyming, with great art, that have a message. We recognize it's not just what we teach that matters, but how we teach.”

Author Julie Penshorn, MBC, is a co-director of the nonprofit, Growing Communities for Peace and director of it’s Smart Tools for Life project. Penshorn co-authored an earlier curriculum on conflict resolution, complete with hands-on-learning tools, that is in use in over 13,000 locations. Now, she’s focusing her unique talents on children’s books and music and a blog-based approach to supporting peace literacy and building a culture of peace.

Smart Tools for Life's product line includes kids books and music, conflict resolution cubes and wearables. There is also a free, downloadable coloring page for kids, based on the flagship children's book, “The Barnyard Buddies Stop For Peace”.

Author, Julie Penshorn is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at julie@smarttoolsforlife.com. More information about the books, music and other products is available on the website at http://www.smarttoolsforlife.com.

Award Winning Children's Book Author Deanie Humphrys-Dunne Uses Animal Stories To Help Kids Learn To Overcome Challenges

Deanie Humphrys-Dunne writes captivating books that teach children valuable life lessons about tenacity and overcoming obstacles

To capture and hold a child's attention long enough to teach something of value is a real challenge. Nothing does that more effectively than a story about animals.  While many children's books do that in a fictional setting, children's book author Deanie Humphrys-Dunne writes engaging books that teach valuable life lessons that are based in fact.

Deanie has won numerous awards for her books. She was recently chosen as one of '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' for her story about the creation of 'Tails Of Sweetbrier'. "The purpose of Tails of Sweetbrier is to encourage every child to follow his/her dreams," Deanie stated. "This message would benefit every child. The journey a child takes by reading this story will show that perseverance is the key to success. The closing statement of the book is: 'You have the power to make your dreams come true so reach for them and don’t accept anything less.”

Deanie believes the message that perseverance is the key to accomplishing amazing things is one that can benefit every child. For the month of May, each print version copy of Soaked sold will provide one book for an under privileged child courtesy of 'Look it’s My Book!' 'Look it’s My Book!' is a non-profit organization based in Peoria, Illinois, that visits economically disadvantaged children and offers them a selection of free books. The children individually choose their favorite and get to take them home.

“Children who read are more likely to do better in life and children who choose what to read are more likely to continue reading,” said A.J. The importance of reading is indisputable with even President Obama launching his own literacy campaign in late April. However, he can’t do it alone.

How exactly does reading benefit children in the Internet age? Peter Gray, Ph. D, said it best "Stories provide a simplified simulation world that helps us make sense of and learn to navigate our complex real world." In short, stories allow us to practice living life and the children most in need of this practice just happen to be the ones that 'Look it's My Book!' serve.

“With all of the alternatives and distractions in the world, books still quietly offer an unmatched level of satisfaction. I think the time has come to read again,” said A.J. “I hope that in some small way 'Soaked' can help 'Look it’s My Book!' achieve that goal.”

Children's Book Author A. J. Cosmo Leads The Way In Digital Books That Engage Kids And Teach Valuable Life Lessons

While many people believe digital book formats are not appropriate for young children, the studies may suggest otherwise. The popularity of A. J. Cosmo's Kindle books for kids demonstrate that the key is getting kids interested in reading, regardless of format

A recent article by Jeremy Greenfield on The Street website entitled 'Digital Books Really Aren't Turning Your Kids' Brains to Mush' presented some enlightening facts about the value of e-books for kids.

According to 'The ABC's of Kids & E-Reading, (a study from Play Science and Digital Book World), digital reading trends are increasing. According to the study, two-thirds of kids two to 13 read or are read from digital books. Some people delight in the news while others bemoan the perceived loss of 'old-school' print formats. Regardless of the hype, hearsay or endless bickering about print versus digital, the importance of early reading skill development, no matter the format, is of utmost urgency.

A. J. Cosmo's digital children's books are wildly successful. He is the author and illustrator of over forty children's books for the Amazon Kindle, including the best selling 'The Monster That Ate My Socks', which spent almost two years at the top of the Monster category and in the top 500 books overall. To satisfy the demand in both publishing formats, 'The Monster That Ate My Socks' is the first legitimately printed book from Thought Bubble Publishing, the newly incorporated self-publishing imprint that Cosmo formed in 2014.

"My mission," A.J. stated, "is to improve the quality of life for kids and adults by teaching important lessons, thus laying the foundation for future success in life."

All of Cosmo's stories are carefully crafted to help parents teach their children simple everyday lessons in an easy to understand manner. By artfully marrying beautiful illustrations and language, children are challenged to explore his magical worlds. Written for the transitional reader, A.J.'s stories allow children to develop and master a new level of reading.

"Format is a matter of personal preference," Cosmo concluded, "and it doesn't matter which format parents and educators prefer. What is important is that the child connects with the material and grows as a reader."

Award Winning Children's Book Author Donna McDine Encourages Charity Book Donations

McDine is a very successful author of children's books who strives to ignite curiosity in children through reading. She strongly encourages all children's book authors to get involved in donating children's books to local charities

Numerous studies from both government and the private sector provide clear evidence that early reading skills are an investment in a child's future. Early reading skill development dramatically affects the quality of life for children as they grow into adulthood. Sadly, a recent article by Carole Dickerson on the Journal Standard website quoted a local social worker who stated that many of the parents in the homes she visits do not own a single children's book.

Award-winning children's book author Donna McDine finds that situation to be appalling. In response, she has announced that she will be donating books locally in the Tappan, NY area and intends to promote a children’s book charity drive within her community. She encourages other authors of children's books of any appropriate genre to do the same.

"The bare essence of learning to read opens up the world of exploration to a child," McDine stated. "Across the curriculumn it is imperative children grow in their reading capability so success in their classes can be had. Without the fundamentals it is very difficult to progress successfully."

A multi-award winning author, Donna McDine has produced four early reader children’s picture books: 'A Sandy Grave', 'Powder Monkey', 'Hockey Agony' and 'The Golden Pathway'. A fifth book is in the pipeline with Guardian Angel Publishing. McDine's awards include, but are not limited to:

Purple Dragonfly Book 2014 Awards 1st Place Picture Books 6 and Older for 'A Sandy Grave'
Readers Favorite 2012 International Book Awards Honorable Mention Children K-3rd General for 'The Golden Pathway'
Literary Classics 2011 Silver Award Recipient Picture Book Early Reader for 'The Golden Pathway'
78th Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition – Honorable Mention – Children’s/Young Adult Fiction category for 'The Hockey Agony'
77th Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition – Honorable Mention – Children’s/Young Adult Fiction category for 'The Golden Pathway'

and many more.

Donna is sharply aware of the need to promote literacy and to ignite the natural curiosity of children. She spends a great deal of time involved in school visits throughout her local region in New York and all over the USA via Skype. She also offers no-charge educators guides for three of her books and a number of activity guides. These guides help lead educators to develop lesson plans focused on a wide variety of subjects including Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science, Health and Astronomy.

"I believe in ‘paying it forward’,"McDine concluded. "That one book donation may be all it takes to make a diffierence in a child’s life. By encouraging the love of reading in our young muses their look of wonder as they bubble with excitement on their next reading journey swells my heart."

Donna McDine is available for media interviews and classroom visits. She can be reached using the information below or by email at donna@donnamcdine.com. McDine's books are available at major online retailers such as Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Indiebound. For autograph copies visit http://www.donnamcdine.com/donnasbooks.html. Children's Book Author A. J. Cosmo's Goal Is To Help Kids Create Success In Life Through Early Reading Skill Development

A. J. Cosmo's mission is improve the quality of life for kids and adults by teaching important lessons through silly stories that engage children in powerful ways, thus laying the foundation for future success in life

A recent article on Kentucky.com entitled "Everyday reading early in life is a priceless investment in a child's future" laid out some startling statistics regarding how important reading skills are in regards to adding value to the lives of future adults. The article referenced a study by from the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine that found that low literacy skills are associated with poor physical and mental health in adults. The article also referenced a survey from the U.S. Department of Education showing that 14 percent of American adults cannot read and 21 percent of American adults read below the fifth grade reading level. Sadly, 19 percent of high school graduates cannot read.

Why is this so important and so urgent? According to information presented on the One World Literacy Foundation website:

85 percent of all juveniles who interface with the juvenile court system are functionally illiterate, more than 60 percent of all prison inmates are functionally illiterate and over 70% of inmates in America's prisons cannot read above a fourth grade level.

A primary focus of A. J. Cosmo's mission is to encourage this early skill development though silly stories in the form of children's books that engage children. The kid's stories are carefully crafted to help parents teach their children simple everyday lessons in an easy to understand manner. By artfully marrying beautiful illustrations and language, children are challenged to explore his magical worlds. Written for the transitional reader, A.J.'s stories allow children to develop and master a new level of reading.

"It doesn't have to be Shakespeare. Any literature is good reading. Any critical thinking is good thought."

A.J. is the author & illustrator of over forty children's books for the Amazon Kindle including the best selling "The Monster That Ate My Socks" which spent almost two years at the top of the Monster category and in the top 500 books overall. While much of his work is centered around the concept of monsters, A. J. manages to create characters that are funny, unique and wildly engaging.

Children's Book Author A. J. Cosmo's Mission Is To Set Kids Up For Success In Life Through Early Reading

Studies show that learning to read early in life impacts the future of children in a big way. A. J. Cosmo's mission is to teach important lessons through silly stories that engage children in powerful ways. This all begins at a very young age

A recent article by education reporter John Higgins in the Seattle Times detailed a study at the University of Washington on how kids learn. Children are not born with the skills needed for reading and writing. Those skills must be developed. The skills develop over time and dramatically impact future learning, success and ultimately happiness. The studies show that time spent reading aloud to children, asking questions and practicing 'serve and return' conversations can form neural connections that are extremely important.

Patricia Kuhl, co-director of UW's Institute for Learning and Brain Sciences was quoting in the article, stating “It’s not a fancy toy or a television set; it’s you and your time. Your kid’s brain is not a turnkey system; it really does require you to talk and play and challenge cognitively.”

A very large part of A.

"When you read with a child you are creating the story with them. You are the actors, the director, the audience, and even the author. You decide what your child learns."

A.J. is the author & illustrator of over forty children's books for the Amazon Kindle including the best selling "The Monster That Ate My Socks" which spent almost two years at the top of the Monster category and in the top 500 books overall. While much of his work is centered around the concept of monsters, A. J. manages to create characters that are funny, unique and wildly engaging.

"I try to hide the morals in the stories and allow for flexibility. We are all storytellers, that's why this matters, when we read to a child we are helping them to tell the story of their lives."

Media Violence And Children - Children's Book Author A. J. Cosmo Offers Important Advice To Parents

A recent article compiled by Herb Scribner in Deseret News paints a bleak picture of how violent and scary movies affect kids. A. J. Cosmo, a successful author of over 40 children's books, believes parents can and must make better choices

Violence plagues our society and children perform some of those violent acts. The question we must ask is, 'Why?'

In a recent article in Deseret News the Association for Youth Children and Natural Psychology noted that films could increase violent and aggressive behavior in children. The National School Safety Center has suggested that violent and graphic films may cause much of the recent school violence. Numerous other organizations agree. And so now the question we might ask is, 'Are there better choices?'

Children's book author A. J. Cosmo believes there are better choices. Parents can make those choices, and they must start when children are very young.

"Play the games your children want to play. See the movies they want to see ahead of time. Pay attention to ratings. Read reviews for the content that they want to digest. It’s not only about monitoring what they enjoy; it’s also about connecting with them on their terms.

"Ask your children: 'Why do you want to see this movie?' Have a conversation about it. If you don’t want them to see it, share the reasons why. Violence has an attractive quality about it, of course children will be curious to see it (it is forbidden after all) but if we can add context we can form understanding."

A.J. Cosmo's stories are crafted to help parents teach their children simple everyday lessons in an easy to understand manner. By artfully marrying beautiful illustrations and language, children are challenged to explore his magical worlds. Written for the transitional reader, A.J.'s stories allow children to develop and master a new level of reading. A.J. is the author & illustrator of over forty children's books for the Amazon Kindle including the best selling "The Monster That Ate My Socks" which spent almost two years at the top of the Monster category and in the top 500 books overall. While much of his work is centered on the concept of monsters, Cosmo manages to create characters that are funny, unique and wildly engaging.

"We strive to create stories where children are encouraged to accept differences, mitigate problems, and find alternative solutions that doesn’t involve violence. In 'The Monster That Ate My Socks,' Argyle the monster is relocated by the children that capture him. Mia, from 'G is for Garden Grouper' incorporated the monsters into her new garden (and they heal her illness in return.)

"We need to tell stories that show the world in a better light because stories create perception and perception literally is reality. If our stories say that violence is the best solution to our issues, then we shouldn’t be surprised when children use violence to solve their issues. If we tell children that the world is a cold, violent, place then we are shaping their future to be just that."

Award Winning Author Kevin Gerard To Appear At Premier Los Angeles Science Fiction Fantasy Convention LOSCON 39

Acclaimed author Kevin Gerard writes Hispanic books for young readers. He is the author of the Diego's Dragon Adventure series. Gerard’s award winning, unique fantasy dragon book series features a young Hispanic boy as the central character

Award winning author Kevin Gerard will be appearing at the premier Los Angeles science fiction fantasy convention LOSCON 39. He will be signing books, t-shirts and posters in the Dealer room at the convention on November 23, 24 and 25. Mr. Gerard will be featuring 'Dragons of the Dark Rift', the latest installment of his newest fantasy dragon series for young readers, 'Diego's Dragon'. He will also sign copies of all five 'Conor and the Crossworlds' novels. The first novel in the fantasy dragon series,‘Spirits Of The Sun’, recently won an award for best YA fiction at the 14th International Latino Book Awards in New York.

"I've heard about LOSCON for years," says Gerard. "An invitation to their dealer room is a real honor. I can't wait to sit amongst some of the best writers in the country, including Vernor Vinge, their guest of honor. He's a talented author and a very down to earth guy. I'm looking forward to an exciting weekend."

Kevin Gerard’s award winning books are unique in that the central character in the fantasy dragon series is a young Hispanic boy named Diego. The series is targeted to middle school and young adult readers.

In ‘Spirits Of The Sun’, young Diego Ramirez, an 11-year-old Hispanic youth, wins a writing contest. His prize is a statue of a handsome, glistening black dragon. After hearing the name Magnifico spoken aloud by family and friends, Diego awards it to his new dragon. If he only knew how fitting the name was, he might have known what lay ahead. Magnifico is the leader of the Sol Dragones, an assembly of dragons that live within the magical fires of the sun.  As Magnifico comes to life and grows to his mature size, he becomes quite mischievous, playing tricks on Diego to embarrass him. As he discovers his bloodline, however, Diego assumes greater control over his dragon and his destiny.

"Readers will enjoy these books," states Mr. Gerard, "because it is the first fantasy adventure epic series with a Hispanic boy hero. This is a story Hispanic children will love because the main character 'looks like them'."

‘Diego’s Dragon, Book Two: Dragons Of The Dark Rift’, expands the story, as Diego and his girlfriend, Racquel, and their dragons, Magnifico and Estrella, fight to see the true Mayan prophecy come to pass, a time of peace and renewal for all creatures. Vipero, Magnifico's enemy, wants the earth to be destroyed in a galactic upheaval, another interpretation of Mayan folklore. There are three more books in the planning stages, and each will focus on some aspect of Hispanic/Latino history, with fantasy adventure providing the background.

Kevin Gerard is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at kevin@cryingcougarpress.com. Autographed copies of both books will be available at the convention. Both 'Spirits Of The Sun' and 'Dragons Of The Dark Rift' are available at his website and from Amazon.com. Award Winning Author Renée Pawlish Helps Parents And Teachers Find Good Books For Kids To Read At GetYourKidToRead.com

GetYourKidToRead.com is a unique concept, in that children’s books by new authors are reviewed and rated by a peer group of parents, teachers and young readers before being placed on the suggested reading list

Award winning author Renée Pawlish has announced the formation of a new book site for parents, teachers and kids. GetYourKidsToRead.com provides reviews and suggested reading lists for children’s book buyers. Reviews are provided by a peer group of parents, teachers and kids.

‘I can’t find good books for kids to read’ is a phrase used often by parents and teachers. Almost everyone has heard of The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, and the Twilight series.  But there are a lot of other great books out there.  In fact, over a million books were published last year alone.  But how would readers ever hear about those books and how would a parent or teacher know which books are right for a particular child?  Shoppers can spend many hours on Amazon reading through thousands of reviews looking for that ‘just right’ book.  Now GetYourKidToRead.com has made it easy for shoppers to find that book.

“So many kids these days” Pawlish stated, “are being inundated with electronic media. It's important to encourage kids to read, too.  I started GetYourKidsToRead.com in order to introduce kids to new authors. I volunteered at an elementary school last year and many of the teachers were discouraged by the lack of good books for kids to read.  I started GetYourKidsToRead.com to help introduce teachers, parents and kids to new, quality stories.  At GetYourKidsToRead.com, we highlight great books by undiscovered authors.”

The concept is a simple one. By joining GetYourKidsToRead.com, shoppers can access a list of reviewed and recommended books for young people. The books have been reviewed and recommended through a thorough screening process. Recommendations and reviews are provided by parents, teachers and kids. This peer group fills out a two-page questionnaire regarding the book in question.

“The team of parent, teacher, and kid readers,” continued Pawlish, “evaluates every book they read and rates it on a scale of 1 to 10 (where 10 is the best possible score).  To make our list, books must have a cumulative score of at least 8.”

More information is available at the GetYourKidToRead.com. Searchers can access the list by filling out the form provided. Renée Pawlish is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below, or by email at renee@reneepawlish.com.

Profile:

Award winning author Renée Pawlish was born in California, but has lived most of her life in Colorado. When she's not hiking, cycling, or chasing ballplayers for autographs, she is writing mysteries and thrillers. She has also published a middle grade novel. Zsale, Author Of ‘Many Faces Of Family’, Named As One Of ‘50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading’

Zsale was picked from a field of hundreds of authors who appeared on The Authors Show. Her book, entitled ‘Many Faces Of Family’, offers a lighthearted story discussing changes in home life

Zsale, author of ‘Many Faces Of Family’, has been named one of ’50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading’. Her honors came as a result of her appearance on The Authors Show. Zsale was chosen from a field of hundreds of authors through a public voting process. ‘Many Faces Of Family’ offers a lighthearted story discussing changes in home life for children age 2 to 8.

“I am pleased,” stated Zsale, “to be included in ‘50 Great Writers’ because the transitional family challenge is not going away any time soon and such needs to be addressed in a healthy not derogatory manner. Also the book's promotions have been on a very limited budget. With such exposure, I hope that a few more families will learn that ‘this storm also shall pass’ and that families are broader than they may first appear.”

’Many Faces of Family’ is a multi-lingual (English, Spanish & French) book addressing an international need for a light-hearted story discussing changes in home life. The book is written for children from 2 - 8 years old. It explains that there are many faces of family and that Mommy and Daddy will always love them and be Mother and Father even if not living under the same roof. The book is open ended, so that it might appeal to a wide variety of contemporary families and situations (separated, divorced, incarcerated, absent, etc.).

A recent Amazon review stated, “This book offers a unique perspective on the emotional challenges faced by kids from differing backgrounds or split parenting situations. If you're a single parent or have a non-traditional family situation, you really need to read this book with your kids. Its great.”

Zsale is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below, or by email at zsalerh@gmail.com. More information is available at her website. ‘Many Faces Of Family’ is available at Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble and at her website.

Author Renee Hand To Allow Children To Create A Character For Her Next Book In The Joe-Joe Nut Series

Renee Hand, author of the Crypto-Capers and Joe-Joe Nut series, will allow children to create a character for the book. Children can submit their characters and encourage family, friends and the public to vote for their favorites. The winning entry will be featured in the next installment of the book, and the book will be dedicated to the winner

In honor of book 1 of award-winning author Renee Hand’s new lower elementary children’s book series, The Adventures of Joe-Joe Nut and Biscuit Bill, The Great Pie Catastrophe, author Renee Hand is hosting a contest for children to become characters in one of her cases. The opportunity is for children to be able to create their own animal suspect.

The Joe-Joe Nut series is based on animal detectives who solve cases. The books are educational and fun using topics that children will learn from, such as animal tracks (for book 1) and rocks and minerals (for book 2, coming in the fall of 2010). Every book is unique, entertaining and yet full of interesting information that children will love to learn about.

For the contest, children will submit a character they created. The author will then post submissions on her website. Family, friends and the public will be able to read and vote for their favorites. The submission that receives the most votes will become a character in the next book.

"I decided to hold this contest," stated Ms. Hand, "in honor of my new lower elementary series titled, The Adventures of Joe-Joe Nut and Biscuit Bill, Case #1 The Great Pie Catastrophe. I am an author who writes for my readers. I want them to be involved in my books and make a connection with the characters. It is important to me. My goal is to not only entertain children, but to educate them as well, and all of my books accomplish this goal. This contest will help children understand the process an author goes through in creating a character and will be able to work with me on the development of that character in the story. As a thank you to the winner, not only will their character be a part of the story but it will be dedicated to them as well. The winner will also receive a signed copy from me. I am excited about this contest and wish luck to all. I look forward to reading the entries."

The contest begins on May 9 in honor of National Children's Book Week and will end on June 10th to allow time for everyone to develop and promote their characters.
